Plain bagel and plain cream cheese
Ben P.

Cool spot in the food hall with great bagels and different but delicious spreads. My wife got a specialty coffee and she said she was glad she took the cashier's recommendation. Everyone was friendly and we really enjoyed the outdoor seating. Will definitely be back and only wish for a few more bagel flavor options.

To go order - fried bologna sandwich.

I am a fan of benchwarmers. I've been to this location enough times to see it super duper busy with a line out the door and also practically empty with plenty of tables to choose from if you'd like to dine in. I'm not in love with the layout if it's super crowded and waiting for things can get awkward as people don't queue well here. But, I deal with it bc their #5 is my favorite breakfast food practically ever. This magnificent creation is a whitefish salad on a bagel of your choosing with the pickle of the day (sometimes it's a pickled tomato, sometimes it's a regular pickle), roe, and a handful of potato chips. As a savory girl, it's basically the best bagel sandwich I've ever put in my mouth. Honorable mention goes to the kickass fried bologna bagel sandwich, and jambon beurre, which are both also incredibly good. I do still need to try the duck rillette, as I have also heard good things. Lastly, I love their iced caramel coconut latte. It tastes like something I used to make in my very short stint as a backup bookstore barista, so it makes me incredibly nostalgic, and it's just straight up yummy. Bonus: there is free two hour parking in the attached garage and the space is right next to my Pilates studio.

On opening day, November 5th, we visited the new Benchwarmer Bagels in the Rockway building on South Saunders Street. Getting there required driving around the building to turn right onto South Saunders, and the Rockway complex appears immediately on the right. Parking in the garage is free for two hours, but you do need to register your car through an app to receive the free time. We walked down the sidewalk to Benchwarmer's, passing outdoor seating before heading inside. A few hours after opening, it wasn't very busy, and the space felt warm, bright, and welcoming. Staff were clearly excited for opening day and provided excellent service. We ordered our usuals: Za'atar, egg, and cheese bagel with a cup of coffee for me Bagel with cream cheese for my wife A very pleasant surprise: they had plenty of cardamom buns available, rare later in the morning at their Transfer Co. location. We found seating easily in the main area and enjoyed a relaxed breakfast. The food was excellent, same as it is at transfer hall. That includes the fact that one of us thinks the cardamom buns are undercooked on the inside and a bit burned on the outside. Would it be better to bake them longer at a lower temperature? One small oddity: I normally receive electronic receipts from Benchwarmer's, and my orders from the Transfer Hall location still arrive by email. But I don't get the new Rockway location receipts emailed. Overall, a great start for the new location, and we'll definitely be back

#5: Smoked fish spread, pickle of the day, potato chips, roe

Great bagel shop! This new location has 2 hour free parking in the deck. Ordered the #5 which is smoked fish spread, pickle of the day, potato chips, roe on an everything bagel. Super unique combination. The bagels are definitely on the expensive side, but very tasty.

The new Benchwarmer's Bagels and Coffee at Rockway is now open and a great upgrade from their original Transfer Hall location. Located in a brand new apartment development, Benchwarmer's Bagels Rockway is in a light and bright space, full of organic woods and greens. Same tight menu of bagels, sandwiches, coffee and tea, they are chugging along in their opening week. I ordered up a couple of sandwiches (bacon-egg-cheese, peanut butter-banana-marshmallow) which were nicely assembled and tasty on their chewy bagels. There plenty of seating inside along with some BW-themed merch. Overall a really nice upgrade in terms of location and space, parking can be found in the Rockway parking structure where you can get 2 hours of comped parking.

Great place to chill and eat your bagel. This place was amazing with all their cream cheese flavor options and yummy bagels. The jalapeno one is super fresh and spicy but in the best way possible. The staff is extremely sweet and quick.

Good bagels nice mix of flavors you should arrive early as the prime flavors will sell out. This is a cute space for families as well

#10 mole on zaatar bagel, caramel coconut latte, #9 egg & bacon on everything bagel, a gingerbread Americano.

Tried out the new Benchwarmer's storefront near downtown Raleigh! The line was at the door but moved quickly. The line is understandable, these bagels are yummy!! The perfect soft but chewy bagel! Lots of interesting sandwiches options from smoked salmon and roe, pickles and potato chips, mole and queso fresco, and some more "typical" options like a build-your-own egg sandwich. Also many bagel options from everything bagels, salt, poppy seed, plain, to zaatar and grit bagels! I didn't try any of the cream cheese options but there was a wide variety like plain, pecan, spicy Carolina reaper, fruity cranberry, and bacon butter too! The coffee was also pretty good, nothing too crazy but they had fun seasonal options that paired great with the hearty bagel sandwiches. I'm already counting the days until I'm back to try a new sandwich combo and their cream cheese!

Their bagels are wood fired so they're not your traditional style of bagels and are a bit harder and chewier. Their variety of cream cheese flavors is what really sets them apart in my opinion - they very dense and creamy. They also have a very unique menu with many different seasonal offerings that rotate frequently. Over the years, I've fine tuned down my order to a couple things each of which I think are 10/10 and some of the best breakfast options in Raleigh! - Grits bagel with dulce pecan or fruit cream cheese (I prefer the grits bagel over plain) - Poppy bagel with spiced honey cream cheese (warning the poppy bagel can be a little messy but worth it) - Breakfast sandwich with sausage and American cheese (sausage is the best - a little sweet and spicy) Every time I go, the staff is always very nice and provides quick service. It can be busy during the mornings and weekends, however they do offer online ordering where you can easily pick up your food and avoid the lines. This location is in transfer food hall, which has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, however they also have a new standalone location that recently opened. If you go to that location, I definitely recommend trying the coconut caramel latte!

A Truly Artisanal Bakery…read more I rarely leave reviews on yelp anymore, but this bakery is so impressive, it inspired me to type this down. I'm from the Bay Area and loved going to all kinds of bakery when I travel. I did not have much expectations when I came to Raleigh. I tried Paul and Jack and couple other bakeries, they were all good, but not impressive. The first thing I noticed was their Mill Room, and second I noticed that they have 100 score on hygiene. Not that I care about the score that much but still impressive. Then We got a bunch of pastries, the shortbread was the first one we tried and wow, it was so simple yet so flavorful, truly malted tasting shortbread, it has so much depth in taste. Then I had a had a ham and cheese croissant, it was on the salty side but I kept eating it when I'm not even hungry. The true winner though, is the plain croissant I got which traveled with me for 72 hours back home. I got it out of my bag, slightly flattened by all my stuff, I expect it to taste flat and meh. I put it in the oven for 6 minutes and it turned out to be the best croissant I've had. It was flaky, soft and soo flavorful. Now I cannot stop thinking about it. Lastly, I want to say that with so many pop ups, new bakeries coming up in different cities, often times we were chasing that unique flavors, that special toppings on croissants, but Boulted Bread stayed true to bread, and perfected the craft without focusing on "exotic" or "special" flavors. I truly respect this.

A bialy (bee-AH-lee) is a traditional Polish-Jewish bread roll, similar to a bagel but with key differences: it is baked, not boiled, has a dimpled center filled with onion bits and poppy seeds, and is generally softer and less dense. Originating in Białystok, Poland, these rolls are traditionally served plain or toasted with toppings like butter or schmear. 2. Rye shortbread. Not too sweet. Just perfection! 3. Bran biscotti. I like the idea of a high-fiber bran biscotti over a refined flour one. 4. Buchi Tepache. I got the mango-pineapple flavor. This is a local NC brand. It's a mildly fermented drink that originated in Mexico. I got the ingredients from their website (drinkbuchi.com): Organic Tibicos (Water, Organic Fair Trade Certified™* Cane Sugar, Organic Kefir Culture), Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic Mango Puree, Organic Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Organic Whole Lemon Puree, Organic Mango Natural Flavor, Organic Pineapple Natural Flavor, Organic Monk Fruit Extract. 5. The baguette. Unlike a refined flour white bread baguette at La Farm Bakery, this one is made of a red wheat flour. Turkey Red flour is an heirloom, organic hard red winter wheat brought to Kansas in 1873 by Mennonite immigrants. Prized for its rich, nutty flavor and superior baking qualities, it is often used for artisan bread, sourdough, and pasta due to its unique, sometimes more digestible, gluten profile. It is commonly stone-ground and available from local Kansas millers. 6. The star of the show was the Everything Croissant. Like the Everything Bagel but soft and buttery. Topped with all the sesame seeds and seasonings with a cream cheese interior. So good! I do plan on returning!

After getting to know many of the staff over the years of frequenting there, anything to make every staff member walk out at the same time has to be big enough to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Am truly sad to see such a Raleigh staple not see the value in the community their staff created. Ok, now that's out of the way I was so stinking excited when someone finally opened a Biggby here!! This location is a tough spot!! Being super familiar with the area, I wasn't put off by the difficult shopping center, but I hope this location is able to thrive despite the stress the physical location may bring. The traffic sucks, the turn in and turn out options to the shopping center suck, and the shopping center isn't the most attractively laid out despite the facelift attempt. But this Biggby location is a shining star in an odd location and they are killing it! The staff are so freaking nice no matter how busy they are. If you've never been to Biggby before, prepare your heart for every flavor combination under the sun. The number of flavor syrups Biggby offers is unreal! They also offer a number of sugar free options and non dairy options. I don't like overly sweet items, so warning if you're like me, ask to have the drink with one less flavor shot of each flavor your drink has. Their regular coffee is absolutely solid option. I'm a little snobby with my coffee sometimes, but I can't complain about their plain coffee. I drink it black, so I can't comment on the sugar or cream options but I'm sure they're just as plentiful as all the other options at Biggby. The only food I've gotten to try so far are the donut holes. No they weren't donut shop quality, but they were perfect with a giant cup of black coffee. The inside is super clean and spacious. The only thing missing for me at the physical location is some more intentional outdoor seating, but I'm sure the absence of it is part of the business plan to minimize location cost.
