I've tried snowboarding and skiing a few times in the past, but I just can't do it because I'll end up sore in my knees for weeks afterwards. Alpine Slide was the fun alternative on a recent trip up to Big Bear with the girl. $4 each (or $18 for a book of five) for the trip on the "AlpineSide" or $22 for "Snowplay." They also have go-carts, but in the end we were too exhausted to try them. We ended up taking several trips down the AlpineSlide and spent a few hours tubing in the Snowplay area on one of their five tubing slopes (four that go straight down the hill and one that does a few S turns). The tubing was extremely enjoyable because of a 'people mover' they have to shuttle you and your inner tube to the top of the runs. Definitely something fun to do as an alternative to snowboarding or skiing at one of the resorts. read more

PROS: - $25 gets you as much snow tubing as you want and kids 2-6 ride free with a paying adult. - The covered magic carpet makes it very easy to get up the hill. - Plenty of man made snow even when all the real snow nearby has melted. CONS: - Cash only. - The employees are barely competent and don't pay attention to anything so beware that punk kids may run you over as you are tubing or getting out of your tube. - Buying a ticket is quite quick but almost everyone in line has some kind of ridiculous question so the process can take forever. - Ghetto factor - this is not exactly the same crowd that you find on the ski slopes. - It gets really crowded around noon. Make sure you get there early (or late in the afternoon) to avoid the crowds. - Not all inner tubes are alike and not all are properly inflated. read more

Poorly staffed by workers who obviously didn't want to be there. Young fellow who was suppose to be monitoring the line into the magic belt SAW people cutting in to the front of the line and all he can say was "single file please". We even said "you should really make sure people don't cut in line--our kids have been waiting 15minutes to get to the front, it's really not fair"! and he just gives a quick smirk. No one is watching from the top either--people just start sliding down whenever they want--so very unsafe for young children to go alone. It was really crowded when we went so despite having four hours to go on the tubing, only got to ride it 4 times because of the long wait. Paid $25 for the unlimited tubing rides. The Luge ride was fun but waited almost 2 hours just for it. 5tickets for 18$ or 4$ each ride. Maybe it was just the mere fact that it was super crowded the day we went, so there was more of a chance for rude and obnoxious teenagers to be present (roaming around without parents), but having groups like these around a "family oriented place" really made the entire expensive experience unbearable--especially when the people who are suppose to enforce sanity and order don't really care about their job. Too bad. Please don't waste your money and time. I saw alot of people park at little remote areas, brought their own sliders and had tons of fun for free, without having to deal with unlawful teenagers and ridiculous lines. read more

This is really really fun!! It's like luge, but going down a half tube downhill. I had a friend who flipped over one year, so you gotta be careful. Otherwise, I love it! You zoom down the hill so quickly but the good thing is, you dont need to have alot of control or skills to do so. You gotta try it if you're in big bear. read more

We were up at a friends cabin for our spring break and found this spot on the internet and it seemed like a good way to let our two boys burn some energy. Places similar to this "down the hill" where we live tend to be run by people who are angry that they are working or just generally miserable. NOT THIS PLACE! We were instantly greeted by Ryan, Chris and Christian. They all helped us figure out each of our options and got my kids tubing and riding right away. They were all very genuinely kind and helpful. Today I relieved one of my favorite childhood memories. No, not the one where I made my cousin cry by shoving tapioca down her throat. The one where I whizzed through the trees on a tobaggon even though there wasn't any snow. Turns out, such a magical place actual exists -- in many locations. When I went to Big Bear this weekend, I made certain that I found an alpine slide so that I could relive -- 20 years later -- those fond childhood memories of reckless, bobsled-like speed. When I saw that one ride was only $4 (holy bargain, Batman!), I pushed all the intimidating-looking kids out of the way and jumped to the front of the line. When I rounded some of the turns near the bottom, I felt as if I might go flying off the track I was going so quickly. Who wants to road trip to Big Bear? Fun Memory: After going down an East Coast alpine slide, my brother and his friend came running over to me and my mom screaming and crying. Turns out they were chucking rocks off the ski lift and hit a beehive. As fate would have it, the ski lift then stopped, leaving them stranded 30 feet up in the air at the mercy of the bees, who stung them until they looked like sea polyps. Fun slide! $6 per ride or if you have a group you can buy 5 tickets for $25 and save a little. We were here Memorial Day weekend so the line took about 20 minutes to go through. They have a slow and fast lane but people still went slow in the fast lane :/ It goes by fast but it really is fun. I'm 27 and I loved it, haha. I suggest letting more time go in between the person in front of you before you start in case they go slow and you catch up to them. They also have mini golf and go karts and an arcade. Pretty small golf and go karts just go in a circle but the kids still had fun. We didn't do the water slide but if you want to get wet go for that, less people. Overall good place to kill some time and have some family fun! read more

How can you not love an alpine slide???? Cash only, but ATM inside. It did rain, so we got stuck twice, waiting in line while they closed the track. My kids had a blast. It was pretty crowded the first day we went, so we took notes and tried it again the next day. What we learned was that you need to get here when they open, bring cash, and have the spectators get in line for the riders to minimize annoying long lines. THIS PLACE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! My family and I came here expecting to have a great time. My 11 year old son was badly injured going down one of the runs. The equipment completely failed causing my son to crash and injure his leg. Nobody at this place seemed to care, almost as if they've seen it so many times, it was commonplace. Came out here for the weekend and wanted to give this place a try since close to our place. We got there early since was a Saturday so parking was good but later in the day parking was bad or non existent. No one was directing traffic so people would park anywhere which made it a mess to get out. The food was so-so. Noticed the girl making food did not have gloves on so not exciting about that. Once you go tubing it's cool but at the end of the run people just sit or stand there and no one directing anyone. There is a kiddie area at the top which you can't see once you get to the top which was nice. They have a toboggan ride that you have to take a lift to so can see the area. This place gets crowded quick so come early to avoid super long lines. There's one line to purchase tickets for the alpine slide and snow tubing. The slide is $5 per slide or you can purchase a book of 5 slides for $20. Heck yeah we got the 5 slide book. If you have a young child with you there's enough room for them to slide with you and you don't have to pay extra. The slide route is a 1/4 mile long. You take a ski lift up to the top. Once there grab a slide and you can choose either the fast route (the left) or the slower route( the right) for newbies. There's a employee up at the top spacing people apart as they go down. I only ended up sliding once as my son and husband did most of it. My son had a blast & kept asking to go again. I chose the slower route as I was nervous that the fast route would be too fast for me. Super eays to control the slide. Push forward to go faster and pull back to slow down or stop. Slow route was a little too slow for me. I had the lever pushed forward all the way and it still didn't seem like I was going too fast. Will definitely choose the faster slide next time. read more

Today I went there with my fiancé, her brother and his gf. Our day was completely ruined by the extreme rudeness from two employees in the mineshaft coaster at around 10:30am-11am. The whole issue happened because my fiancé didn't want to ride alone so we wanted to ride together. I kindly asked the male employee with blonde hair and beard if we could ride together. From the beginning he used a rude attitude saying we couldn't because the rear passenger can't have obstructed visibility. My fiancé is substantially shorter than me and it is noticeable at simple sight. I told him she was riding in the front so we would easily comply. As I was talking he yelled at me saying there's no discussion about it. All the people around were looking in shock so we decided to just go with single rides to avoid further issues. My fiancé's brother and his gf asked him the same and he answered in the same rude manner. She's also substantially shorter than him. It just seemed as if he didn't want to do anything. And by the way, he wasn't even wearing a mask at first. Once we had completed the ride I approached the other employee. He has long dark-ish hair. I kindly asked him if he could provide me with the name of the blonde employee. He said he said "You pissed him off. I don't have to give you any names" with a rude attitude as well. I want to make it clear that we went in all 3 rides available this day and this was the only place we experienced such attitude. I'm not your typical complainer but this needs to be addressed. This ride alone was $20 a person. We didn't deserve this kind of treatment. I hope the management reads this and does something about it. This place is a huge scam! The prices are insane and only cash is accepted. The employees are also incredibly disrespectful and clearly do not want to work there. So it was ok. We brought 3 kids. The bathrooms were filthy and not stocked. Cafe was very understaffed and no place for people to sit to eat. Way too many people to have any fun. Pros: My 5 yr old daughter and I loved the slide. You can go in the slow lane to get a feel for the ride and then move to the fast lane on your next trip down. We bought the 5 for $20 deal, which was very well worth it. The Chair lift ride up was even pretty cool for my daughter. The people working there may not seem excited to be there, but all of them were friendly enough. Went on a Saturday from 11-12:15 and the lines were nòt too long at all. Cons: None! I've been here before but this past weekend disappointed me greatly. Some guy who bought too many slide tickets came up and sold us the tickets for a dollar cheaper than normal. Then some beefy security guy came up and interrogated us like he was a police officer. "Hey guys. What are you up to? Buying tickets? Where'd you get them, huh?" We are adults in our mid-twenties. We don't need to be treated like high schoolers. After we told him we bought them from someone, he said we weren't allowed to do that and needed to get our money back and purchase tickets at the window. We didn't care that much, so we found the guy, got our money back, then bought tickets. Although that was a bit of a downer, it wasn't what killed the mood. We don't mind rules...we just didn't know. What pissed us off is when the security guy went and told a couple employees and from that moment on we got treated like crap. People ignoring us, telling us to "shush" even though we were being quieter than everyone else. Very strange and saddening. I've tacked on one extra star just because I like the slides. read more

Kids 2 to 6 years are free with a paid adult :D This place can get so packed, band lines can be so long, but there are about 3 booth to buy your tickets. CASH ONLY! There is also a little food court inside to eat, and be warm. There are also arcades where kids can play and hang out. The Alpine Slide was so fun. You begin the ride with the chairlift and you see panoramic views of Big Bear Lake and its mountains. Very pretty, then you line up and your ride begins! You can navigate based on your own pace--there are two routes, slow lane and fast pace. Overall, it's all year round, and when we went, it was all man-made snow for the inner tubing but we were there for the Alpine Slides since we didn't have all day to be there lol. read more

This place is great for the family. Even the littlest one in our group was able to tube down on her own. Parking was free and not that stressful to get through. They have staff working the parking lot in the morning getting things situated. The rotation from sliding down a huge hill to walking back to the escalator to the top was less than ten minutes on a holiday weekend. The only negative is that the club house is horrible. I would give them NEGATIVE stars. The ONLY thing the website says is pregnant women can't ride. My wife had a protective boot on her foot, no different than a ski boot. They stopped her at the lift and made a huge deal about her footware. ABSURD! Meanwhile a woman w heels got on. There's no one around that controls any of the lines or crazy kids that are running around unattended. It's just very poor standards, inconsistent and the guys operating it probably can't fit on the sled to actually ride it. The place itself is a lot of fun (!!) but you can definitely bet on it that most of the staff will NOT be wearing masks or enforcing social distancing. We were absolutely shocked when we showed up after lunch to find queues with no social distancing and about 40% of those in line not wearing masks. My friends an I came to ride their Mineshaft Coaster an it was honestly a waste of $40. From the moment we get there all of the employees are rude an acted as if we were such an intrusion to them. Fun, but crowded. They should stop selling tickets at some point... but the snow is always so fun. You pay $25 for all day and I highly recommend getting there first thing in the morning to avoid the crowd. Did that, had lunch at the Teddy Bear Restaurant and came back later on for a few more runs. It's an odd combination of being warm and playing with snow. Great place to take kids of all ages and lots of fun. Slopes could be a little more steep and the escalator up the hill is like surfing. It's bumpy and turns on and off abruptly. First of all there was no snow, but I can't blame Them for it.... 2 stars because they cannot handle the masses. Waiting almost an hour in line just to get tickets for rides is absurd, them when you finally getting to the booth, they tell you "Cash Only"?! To add insult to injury, they tell you that there's an ATM machine inside the coffee/snack shop, and the line there is even longer, because they ask for cash only at the coffee shop as well. Very confusing pricing policy. We thought we were paying for an all day use of the alpine slide, inner tubes and Zip line, but found out later that the $35 price was for the inner tubes only. We went down the hill 3 times after a half hour wait each time. Over $10 a ride. What a rip off. Management, you need to take all the signs off your ticket booth and replace them with one sign that clearly defines what people are buying for the price. This review is for the snow play tubing hill. This tubing is WAY OVERPRICED. $35 a person?? Even for our 5 and 7 year old kids. We went on a Tuesday, and the prices are the same every day of the week. I would think $35 per person would be weekend prices...or at least cheaper kids prices! We only went 6 times before our tube flipped and my daughter injured her wrist. Yes I know that isn't the parks fault, and my review isn't based on my daughter getting hurt. It's snow play, injuries happen. But what I'm bummed about is now we paid $140 to tube only 6 times. The other thing that really irritated us is this place is CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM on site, but all we had was our credit cards. Had to go get cash then come back. When we asked why it was cash only, an employee stated that it's so we (the customers) don't have to pay tax. ...???? Say huh?? Hmmmm, who's not paying tax here, us..or you? Seems shady to me. We came in summer, and figured it was time to update my review So much fun stuff: 2 water slides The Alpine Slide bobsled (ride the chairlift up - open year-round) - very cool. 18-hole mini golf Go-kart track Indoor area w/ food, drinks, arcade games, and outdoor patios And of course the inner tubes w/ conveyor belt to the top in winter w/ lots of snow. It's still a bit pricey, and the lines can get long, but we (and especially the kids) always have a great time. You may get deals if you do multiple activities, and there are day and season passes for the water slide, too. read more
