I believe it's 300+pounds What's is really cool about this ride is you have the option to go full speed the whole ride or pull back the lever to slow down! Makes it so much more immersive. Some staff members were not very friendly, some were. Also each activity they charge separately and you pay near the ride area. They also have a sled, and water slide. Kids and I had such a fun experience with Mineshaft Coaster located Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain. Each ride is $20 per person and if you wanted to purchase videos plus photos it is additional $13.99. The ride lasted about 10 mins long with two tracks. You are able to control the speed at your own pace. It can get extremely hot especially during the summer, best to visit is in the morning when it's still cool. Before purchasing ride tickets, a liability waiver must be signed prior to riding. I was concerned about my son who's on the spectrum going on it. Unfortunately, we were unable to ride together because he was much taller than me and needed to ride on his own. One of the staff kind of made me feel discouraged refraining from riding, but another employee stepped in assisting me encouraging that my son will be fine. She radioed out to other staff to keep an eye out on him during the ride. Sure enough he perfectly did well without any problems. We all had a blast and purchased the videos for memory. Such a fun and unique experience! We visited as 2 adults with no children, it was about $20 for one ride, but there were two tracks you get to experience. The staff did a great job of spacing everyone out on the track to prevent crowding or bumping. There is an option to ride random, two together, or individually. They have a large parking lot and lockers available to secure any bags or loose items such as sun glasses and cell phones. Highly recommend! *Arrive close to opening to avoid long lines and crowds especially on weekends. read more

My fiancé and I love Alpine Coasters, so when we travel and find one within 2 hours, we check it out! Recently we were staying in Joshua Tree and learned of Mineshaft Coaster in Big Bear. After we finished work, we drove about an hour and a half and made it just before closing time. We signed the waiver, and made it quickly to our coaster carts. Safety checks and instructions were given and we were off! This one was one of my favorites because there are actually 2 runs. I wish we would have had more time to ride again but all in all it was a wonderful experience. read more

I wanted to start off by saying that the experience was really fun and beautiful to see! My family and I got to experience the mineshaft coaster with snow and as a Californian you know we LOVE snow. (Hahah) $20 per ride/per person & $10 for "small child". Although I think, for the amount of years that they've been running, they can do a lot of things to make the process of signing waivers, and buying tickets a lot smoother. If this is your first time, you probably wouldn't even know what each line is for what because they have no signs, or no staff, directing or answering questions outside. The little shed to the right of the ride entrance is to sign a liability waiver; we waited 30 minutes for that. Luckily, I had a bigger party, and I was able to send my mom and sister to wait in line while my dad and I went into a separate line to purchase the ticket. So, remember when coming that you have to purchase your ticket in a separate line, and once you have your ticket, enter into the ride line. We waited 1 hour to get our tickets and onto the ride. Until they find a different system to purchase tickets and sign waivers...just be aware that you'll be waiting in line for a bit. Side note: They also need to do some thing about the start of the ride. In order to sort of be pushed up to the first hill, the cart behind you must ram into you at full speed. My shoulder hurt the rest of the day, yikes. read more

A fun experience for the whole family. The coaster was exciting and well worth trying. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey for such a short ride, but overall, we had a great time. Unfortunately there is no all day pass and has to be purchased per ride. There is an all day pass for the water slides that we will definitely try next time. read more

Get ready to spend some serious cash. The mineshaft coaster was super fun but for $20 each ride or $30 for double riders .. sure adds up! If you're from out of town and visiting and want to do a quick little amusement ride, this is the place to go. This was a cool ride, we tried in last week. It's like $20 per person and it's like a 1 mile long. The length surprised me, takes around 10 mins to finish. I will visit here again. read more

This was my first time trying it out and believe me or not it's worth money spent, $20 per person there is a weight capacity 350 if u ride together. It does get full so I highly recommend going early in the morning 9am they open at 10am but they allow u to get started on the consent form on the iPad and start lining up. I do recommend wearing gloves it does get cold, thy also do show u how to use the coaster u can always break on your on if not then u can go as fast as it goes it does get scary so hang on tight. I'd been wanting to ride one of these types of alpine coasters ever since I saw the youtube videos of the Dragon's Tail coaster in Labadee, Haiti and others like it in Europe (including some crazy dude's homemade one in his backyard). Mineshaft Coaster didn't disappoint. My whole family (including our 10 and 13 year old kiddos) had a blast. This is a great addition to the area and our first time actually stopping at the 'Alpine Slide' complex even though we've driven by hundreds of times. On a Sunday afternoon when everyone is leaving the mountain, we experienced a pretty short, maybe 10 minute wait. I'd definitely recommend timing your arrival strategically because we saw a pretty long line on Saturday afternoon when we first arrived in Big Bear. $20 for one ride seems a little steep but it was a great, fun experience and yeah, we got suckered in to buy two vids of the kids' rides at $14.99/eac h. The kids are only young once, right? No pushy sales people trying to get you to buy the vids, just do-it-yourself computer screens at the end of the ride and the they're emailed to you immediately. The videos are a nice edited compilation with some aerial stock footage spliced in with the kids' runs. I don't think I'd pay more than $15 for it but I'm glad we have the keepsakes. I thought the ride only went up the hill once but it actually takes you up twice, once on the left side of the hill and once on the right. The second half of the ride definitely seemed faster and more thrilling but, like I said, the whole thing is a blast. I'd say the ride is maybe 5-7 minutes long. I was a little worried that my 10-year old son in front of me wouldn't go fast enough and that I'd have to slow down but I only had to once. Speaking of the controls...they're super easy. Push forward to go; pull back to slow down. Highly recommend this great, fun experience. And now I want to build one in my backyard! read more

No parking, long lines for waivers. Longer lines for rides. Wanna ride a mediocre alpine coaster - it will cost your family of 5, $80 for the one ride. In the dining hall and bathrooms there are more long lines; certainly too long for the quality of the facilities. Disneyland lines and prices but without the magic and smiles. I recommend passing this one up - there's probably no parking anyways. read more

On a mission to find snow, but we barely found some. Luckily, we did find a roller coaster! First have one of your friends start waiting in line it's a long one. Then take turns to go sign the waiver, Get a zip tag to show proof that you signed it. Then go to the left line by the tickets. Make sure someone stays in line . Unfortunately, I listen to the rules the cashier told me after I bought the tickets. She let me know I had to put away our purse phone and fanny packs in the car. Which made this line so much longer! After looking around, noticing that everybody had their phone, I walked to the car and got my phone again . Attention management this would've been so much better if you would've at least put a little bit of music on. Aside that getting on the ride,was so much ! They gave me a rubber band to tie my hair up, which was really helpful. The bilingual white boy gives you instructions . Very well I might add ! Major props on Spanish! . Push down to go forward and pull back if you wanna stop. So I didn't use my brakes at all. So much fun by the time we got on the ride it was dark. From the girls in the waiver kiosk to the older woman behind the counter in the mineshaft coaster ticket area they were all so rude. This wasn't a day with tons of people but even as I watched the other staff members talk to other people in the area they were all rude acting like people were dumb for asking questions or not knowing where certain things were. read more

A lot of fun in one place. You can tube all day , ride the small roller coaster, bon sled down the mountain, go cart race and a short zip line machine not your traditional zip line. It was a nice break from skiing and gave the kids something else to do. They have a small snack bar and an arcade. Very mountain indoor outdoor feel for the snack bar. You will be waiting for a long time if you go on the weekends. We came here on a Sunday morning. Finding parking was like going to war. It was packed with cars until we got lucky and found a spot. We decided to do the roller coaster ride. First, we had to line up for a good 40 minutes to sign the waiver. Then, we went to a separate line to buy the ride tickets which was $20 a person. We then lined up at a 3rd place for the actual ride. We probably spent 2 hours altogether for 1 ride. It was not worth it in my opinion. Either come during off hours or later in the day. read more

I went here with my family to have fun. We frst went on to see the lake and then we head on to Alpine Slide at Big Bear. There you will see different rides oir things to do like Snow Play, Tubing, and the new Mineshaft Coaster. In order to get to the Mineshaft coaster, you furst head on the the long line where you will sign up for the WAIVER. The waiver releases the Alpine slide owner/operator responsibility if anything goes wrong. If you are lucky enough you will most likely be on the line fir a short period of time. If not you will be waiting forat least 30-45 minutes. That's just for the waiver. When you are dine then you gead on to the other line to get on the ride. Again, if you have a lot ofnpatience waiting in line then it's a good andfun ride to try. You are already there so might as well enjoy what you cane for. read more

Great ride in a fun location. However it was too expensive. It cost $60 for a family of 4 to ride the coaster 1 time. It doesn't make sense to charge $20 dollar for an adult rider and then $10 more for the child to sit with the adult. Of course the kids loved it and wanted to ride again but we had to say no. We did 2 other attractions (water slide& toboggan) both were fun, but again the expense kept us from sticking around and trying all the attractions and we likely won't go again. read more

The answer is yes, you should try the Mineshaft Coaster, it's fun! I'm a coaster enthusiast and this scared the crap out of me but also caused me to laugh hysterically. Cost was $20 for adults, I went on a Saturday morning in May and there was no line and the town in general was D-E-D, dead! There's a lift that takes you up to the top and drops you off to a bunch of tight twists and turns. The cost includes 2 rides around the track. There's not much to do here but ski or snowboard but this coaster is a nice diversion for adults and kids! read more

FUN OVERPRICED ROLLER COASTER. A one mile 10 minute ride with two main drops and several scary twists and turns. This is not a train style coaster. Rather you sit in your own car. They let you control the speed with a "dead mans" style break you need to force push forward to go. Release it slowly and and you will slow If you let go completely, you will stop. A good portion of the 10 minutes is taken up by the chain pull to the top of the two drops. The breaks do not engage when climbing to the top of the drops. Each car has a camera that points at the rider. After your ride you can view a preview of the video made by this camera. It is only a few seconds of it. You can have the entire video sent to your email address for $14.00. Which is excessive considering you just paid $20.00 for your ride. Yeah. TWENTY DOLLARS! All told, the ride itself was fun. The views are spectacular from the hill. So. Is it worth 20 bucks? You will have to decide for yourself. I give the Mine Shaft coaster a healthy four stars. I am deducting one for the excessive cost.
