Okay, the people maybe nice here or not whatever, it really doesn't matter if the job is not done right. You ask for a full inspection and it looks like it's a half assed inspection. I had to pin point it out what work is needed a multiple times and even after that, it wasn't fixed. Don't ever bother waiting if they said they will call you back. They will ask for your number pretending to make you feel special saying I'll note it down. You might as well kill yourself if you plan to wait for them to call you back because they never do. They order the needed parts from other establishments and have the audacity to mess up and never update you on what is going on. I had to find out the shop they ordered the parts from and make things clearer and then only Al's cycle shop called back or texted back saying the order was messed up. Had I not called, I would have wasted my time waiting for the wrong order to come in and then again order the right one again and wait for weeks to come in the shop. "They say they are not happy to keep the bike in as well and they have a lot of bike coming in and want to get the job done as fast as they can move the bike out as it takes up space".WHAT ?! So they just want the money and not actually genuinely care about the customer's bike and rush through all the work?. Fine, they also charged a full amount of labor for electric repair and guess what, when i went to pick it up, he said oh, i took out the horn wire it's not working and also you don't have the option for low and high beam, it just works as high. I asked them why, they said because your electrical wiring is weird. Isn't that the whole point why i brought in the shop to repair and keep in mind they charged the full labor amount of the electrical part. I just didn't argue and left the shop because it seemed pointless and I was losing my patience. They didn't even fix my clutch and the speedometer. Fuck this place ! My first bike experience was ruined because of them. Thanks alot. Do they just not give a shit? Don't go to this place. do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but not here. read more

I called Al's shop frantically right before they opened after coming down to my bike to see a flat tire right before I was supposed to go on a scheduled ride. Al could not have been nicer, got my Bonnie up on a ramp at 10 am sharp and had a new (upgraded) front tire put on to get me back on the road asap, at an incredibly reasonable price. Can't speak highly enough of all the guys in the shop who commiserated with me and helped to get me in and out since I was in a rush -- plus gave my bike a once-over to check all the key items, without trying to upsell me on anything. As an extra perk, Bruno the shop dog is an absolute mush and kept me company while the work was being done :) read more

In March 2010 I took my bike there to have the left rear turn signal replaced. I brought the parts, they charged me $250. and took 3 attempts to wire it properly. In the end I took it home, even though there is a taped splice in the wire half way under the seat. I was pretty pissed and made a bureau report. It took so long to hear back, months, I said nevermind. I forgave them. Bought a helmet there. Tried to get into the kicked back attitude. In June 2011 I brought my bike in to get an oil change and asked them to look it over as I was riding it up to Yosemite over the 4th of July. They said it needed brake pads and an oil change, $145. Okay, please do it. When I picked the bike up, the brake handle/lever makes a mechanical whine every time I touch it. It had never made this noise before. I called, brought it back, and the right mechanic was not there. brought it back again, and another mechanic agreed to install other brake pads, Al suggested I tip him for the effort. I did. I rode away, 15 minutes later the same noise resumed. I brought it back again, they assured me we just needed to put to OEM brake pads on it. WTF, I had no idea we were putting something other than OEM on it in the first place. At the counter, Mike took my name and number, and told Al and the young lady that they needed to order the OEM Honda pads. Today, August 10, 2011 I called. They got the pads, but used em on someone else bike. Why didn't they call me? No answer. Al got on the phone, first yelled at me to speak up, then yells at me not to yell at him. Al, says, oh yeh, I remember you...you gave me a bad time about the brake lights. I retold my tale of woe, he says the noise is probably some other problem. We have to look at it and find out whats wrong with it. Did we install brake pads? We did what we said we'd do. NEVER AGAIN. This time I follow through with the bureau... read more

Please listen to the other reviews and DO NOT go to Al's for any repairs. STAY AWAY! I wish I had read up on them before because almost every bad thing listed about this place is true. I can tell you from experience that this is not somewhere you want to take your bike. I took my bike in just to get it running again which needed a new battery and should have been $75 but then my bill was over 200 bc they apparently serviced other parts of my bike without my request or permission then tried charging me for it. (this repair literally took 5 mins to do but they charged me an hour) They then apologized (using the good cop bad cop like someone had mentioned) and said they would do an oil change for free to make up for the difference which at this point I just said ok . They said that i could pic it up monday. (It was sat. at this point) I show up monday at 5:55 and they're closed (closed time on their card is 6:30) No biggy, Ill get it the next day. I then call Tue. (the next day) and they tell me they forgot to tell the mechanic to do the oil change and that they would need another day. I said fine and proceeded to wait yet ANOTHER day just for an oil change. I show up the next day, pay my 200+ dollar (overcharged) bill and got my bike out of there asap. It was only the next day I had someone else look at it and found out that they had completely lied to my face and NEVER did change my oil. Again, DON'T GO TO THIS SHOP! read more

I should have definitely done my research before coming to this place. As one of the reviews mentioned, they are definitely not in a hurry to fix your repair. It took them over a month for a repair that they said would only take 2 hours (a carb job). If you have a vintage bike Do Not bring it here. Save yourself the headache and take it somewhere where they actually know how to work on older models. They will also lose your parts and will be in no hurry to replace them. When i went over to pick up my bike I noticed that a side fairing was missing. They could not find it and the owner, AL, said if they can't find it they will replace it. I have yet to get a call back and will not hold my breath for it. They also lost my license plate, how do you lose a license plate when you weren't even required to take it off when doing a carb job. I also had additional work done while it was there and was charged for something that wasn't even fixed. I also have all the paperwork for it, charged for it obviously but it wasn't fixed. It will be such a waste of time to continue to go back and forth with them that I will not go back even if they offer to fix any mistakes they have made. Hi Guys, I used to be a weekly/monthly Customer at this place... I liked everyone there, until I changed my rear breaks there! Unfortunately, they "FORGOT" to screw something, so basically, I got Lucky that I didn't DIE on freeway... When I called them, they just said SORRY, and They told me that they can Change the breaks for FREE lol. Here's my experience with this place: First, I work in Downtown LA and have driven passed this shop almost every day for the last 10 years. Their name is frequently changing. From what I remember off the top of my head is that it's been all of the following: Cycle Stop, Cycle Shop, Al's Cycles, Al's Stop and different variations. My guess is that they keep getting sued and think they're being "smart" by changing their name. Second, my personal experience: I went to the shop years back to have some tires put on. As I was watching the guy change my tires, the guy scratched my rim (they were black rims so I didn't really care much). A couple of minutes later, the manager came by and told me, "when you watch him, he gets nervous and he messes up. So don't watch him." It ended up taking a couple of hours to put the tires on (way longer than it should have). While I was waiting, I saw about 4 people come in extremely angry that their motorcycles were ready. One guy was complaining that he brought his bike in months prior to that and it was still in a bunch of pieces on the floor of the shop. Also, ever person that went to try to get the name of the manager, it seemed like a fake name and he refused to give his last name. I would never go back to this place. Even though my rim got scratched and it didn't show much, I would be weary of going back because of all I saw. The fact that they've changed their name so many times and the fact that they even refuse to give their information when asked is scary. I give 2 stars because my service was done to a less-than-satisfactory level, but was still taken care of. Also because I hate to give one star. I would tell anyone that wants to go to them for any reason other than an extremely simple thing should definitely be aware, make sure to get a contract, all the information of who you speak to, pictures of your bike beforehand, and the name of a good lawyer. read more

I stopped by Al's about a six months ago, got my tires changed. I already had a small oil leak starting from a stripped bolt on my Stater cover. I decided to put if off for a couple months and keep and eye on it but would come back as soon as I could to fix it up. Came in this time to get the bolt fixed and see if I could solve a starter issue. They ran diagnostics and found my battery and starter were fried. The guys helped me find a replacement and gave me a sick deal for the holiday! I recommend them to anyone and will continue to return. The original builder had it pretty stripped down for the ultimate cafe style, so Al and his guys hooked up the foot brake light, front and rear signals, signal switch, mirrors, and popped in a new battery. Had a flat tire on my bike and was far from home. Called around and Al's had my tire and tube. Got towed over there and he had me fixed up within an hour of getting there even though they had a lot of other work to do. The cherry on top was that my tire didn't need to be replaced, just the tube. Saved me some cash and shows that the shop has some integrity. I was in a bind and would have paid for a new tire just to be done with the situation. I definitely recommend Al's. read more

Bought a vintage Honda CB350 from a friend last summer and spent a good 6 months on and off rebuilding to get it back in running condition via 2 other motorcycle mechanics/shops... parts would take forever, their prices sucked... and still wasn't running properly. When the bike was still only dialed in at 75% I finally brought it to Al's as a last resort before I sold, and they adjusted my carbs/throttle issues/electrical/batt charging/etc and more to finally get it running like a dream! Mike even let me grab a few lil pieces of hardware needed for my fender on my way out, free of charge. Fair pricing, quick turnaround, and really honest dudes. As a first-time rider it feels great to finally get on my bike and feel safe. This is a family run business and it's easy to tell they take pride in taking care of their customers. read more

I have previously written a glowing report on this establishment which resulted in me getting my bike back in good order. This was some months ago. I have had to take the bike back in but chose to take it to a Honda Dealer rather than return to Al's. I paid Al's over $500 to get the bike in working order, replace the battery etc.... Now upon inspection at the dealer I have been told the bike has the wrong battery (dead now), is missing cater pins on the back wheel, never did get the gas cap seal that I paid for and numerous other simple but potentially dangerous issues. I've been here many times because it is close. The prices are pretty standard and they are nice guys. The problem with this place is that they are in no hurry to actually service your bike. To change a tire should take about a half hour. I have never waited for less than 2 hours here to get that job done. I've been to shops with one worker and a longer line and waited much less. I would never come to this place unless it is an absolute emergency. Even worse, this most recent time, they didn't bother tightening my chain adjuster and it fell off the bike in traffic. Al's is a totally novice-friendly bike shop, with a good crew of honest guys and a fast, affordable turn-around on repairs and maintenance. This review is long overdue, much like my latest service. I actually purchased my first motorcycle, a '98 Honda Magna 750cc, from this shop a couple years ago and have been having it serviced here ever since. From a simple brake replacement, to some major work, these guys have taken care of my baby with the utmost care. Not having a terrible amount experience riding yet, Al's could have easily taken advantage of me by offering unnecessary services and parts, but have not, even recommending I don't replace my tires just yet. So my Triumph Bonneville had been sputtering at low RPMs so I took it to Al's for a carb job. After getting the quote from Al, I got a call from the mechanic that it wasn't the carbs but because I didn't have a muffler. I have Specialty Spares TT pipes (drab bars) and told him that they've been on there for 7 years with no problems. Eventually I got a call back, "yeah you're carbs are gunked up." So another $200 onto my quote which is fine but not okay on top of the carb adjustment and tune up for $160. Al boasted that this mechanic had been working on bikes for 30 years. But somehow couldn't tell my exhaust apart from just taking off the muffler and drag bars? Luckily Al was understanding that I shouldn't be charged for both services since the carb overhaul should've been the first thing inspected because I told them that was the problem to begin with. And on that note the bike runs great. However, here's the PROBLEM. I also took a couple new tires for them to replace. Not too long ago I plasti dipped the chrome wheels flat black. I knew after the tire change it would probably need to be redone. When I got my bike back, it took me a couple days to notice that the plasti dip had peeled when replacing the tires and the mechanic took it upon himself to spray GLOSS BLACK SPRAY PAINT on the peeling areas. Spray paint and plasti dip are two very different things. Not only that, it was clearly gloss as you'll see in the photo. After calming myself down enough I went and showed Al. The mechanic was not there at the time, but said he would ask him if he spray painted my wheels. Of course, Al has yet to get back to me. With that said, I will never take my bike back to Al's. I'm still thoroughly pissed. Why would anyone think it is ok to go ahead and randomly spray paint pieces on someone's bike. read more

The negative reviews on here must have been written by an angry ex-girlfriend, because this shop is the best. I've had my fair share of experiences at mechanic shops across the country and in my opinion, these guys are as legit as it gets. Crooks? That's like calling Ghandi violent. Al is a straight shooter through and through. I read a review where someone called them Jail Birds? This is a bike shop not a library. I bought a Honda Magna here a while ago. They worked with me on the price to find one I was comfortable with and walked me through any damages since it was used and had slight wear and tear. As they were going over the bike, I watched 5 or 6 customers come in for tire changes and minor repairs, all of which seemed satisfied and taken care of in a timely manner. The best way I can put it...if you go in there and don't try to bullshit, you're not going to get bullshit. At the end of the day, go down and check it out for yourself. These guys are awesome! Helpful, fast and knowledgeable. I really don't understand why some people wrote bad reviews but from the sound of most of them they sound like they were just trying to let off some steam and found yelp to be their best option. All my experiences with Al's have been perfectly fine from the moment I stepped foot into this shop. Even before I owned a bike I've walked In for some advice and they were very helpful, when I did end up finally buying my first bike I realized my brake light wasn't working so I stopped by as I was passing through to get it looked at. Being that this is a safety issue Mike immediately checked it out, quickly identified the problem with the wiring and the fuses ,which the previous owner had completely tangled up I assume, and not only did he fix all my lights he even welded some loose parts of my muffler which I hadn't even noticed. I later came back for a rear tire ($170 bridgestones for $110) awesome deal! And just recently I had another electrical problem which was solved in no time. The guys that work here are all friendly, cool, and down to earth. And nobody looks down on you cuz you're a new rider, they gave me informative tips on my bike and riding and have never overcharged or tried to sell me services I didn't need. I recommend this shop to anyone, it's a family style run business with experienced and knowledgable staff and they make you feel welcome. It's fun to chill in the waiting room inside the shop while watching the bikes get worked on up close and having their friendly dog Bruno keep you company. read more

My cousin and I were trying to put a gixxer shock on an sv650. Nothing fancy, and is a pretty standard modification for the bike. After wrenching and pulling and prying we just couldn't get the primary nuts loose. We said screw it, we'll just have a shop do it. So we called around. 3 different shops. Quoting between $130 and $210 bucks. Which seemed insane just to take a shock off and put another on. I'd passed Al's a few times so we thought the hell with it, it's local so let's swing by and see what they say. We park, immediately talk to one of the mechs. He says $40 buck's and they can do it right there. We came back the next day. They rolled it right in and got to work. While we waited Al came out and introduced himself and chit chatted with us for a bit. Which you simply don't see much of these days, the owner coming out and shaking hands with you. They found a bracket needed to be cut/modified to get the new shock in. Showed us exactly what needed to be done. Asked for approval and got to it. All said and done it took 30 minutes (due to the bracket mod) and the price came to $60 (due to the bracket mod). Remember other shop quotes were up to $200 bucks. I have a KTM 950 Supermoto. Good luck finding a mech to touch one that's not at a dealer looking for $90+ an hour. And good luck me trusting anyone to mess with her. After the good experience with the SV I decided to give Al's a shot with my KTM for a fuel hose replacement and emissions mods / block off plates installed. At first I was little sketched because I hadn't gotten an estimate after dropoff for 48 hours. And when I swung by to check on her they hadnt shut off the fual valves (KTMs have 2) and fuel was leaking all over my header. I shut the valve and called Al. He called me back the following day (while the shop was closed, apologized, and gave me a timeframe for the bike.) You try having a dealer's manager/ owner call you on a day the dealership is closed. Following day my bike was good to go, at a great price. Week later I blew a header gasket. They located a replacement and fixed it same day. $60 for parts and labor. Today I brought her back to have a new chain put on (I don't have a rivet tool). I just showed up, asked if they could squeeze me in, they brought the bike right in and put her on the lift and got to work. Had it done and test rode in 20 min. Charged me $20 bucks. I laid down two tens and Al said "make it $15 and go buy yourself some lunch!" Until I get "done wrong" I'll be taking my current bike and any future bike to them with out a second thought. My KTM is my 14th bike so finding a solid shop I can trust is GOLD. -1Star because the fuel leaking on my bike pissed me off and they were going to clean up my bike after the big emissions service and never it around to it. read more

I live nearby, and after months of driving by, I decided to stop in. My 1981 Kawasaki had a fuel leak and therefore, was undrivable. I thought I needed a sketch Craigs List dude to come help, but after stopping in, they arranged for Al to pick up my bike and bring it to the shop to be fixed. Fast forward 36 hours and my bike is fixed and driving well. The mechanics did a safety check, fixed up my brakes, battery and oil as well.
