After 40K miles on my first clutch, I paid Moto Techica for a new clutch. Under 3,000 miles later, the clutch on the Polo installed goes out. I gave him a chance to make it right, offering to pay for parts but not labor, and Polo ghosted me. $5,000 later, the BMW dealership is saying Polo used substandard parts and did not seal the clutch with the right gaskets. I wish this were the first issue, but I promise he is not the savior to your bike like he claims to be. read more

Tl:dr - was told that I needed a new chain when my new bike had only 1700 miles; the chain was not damaged at all and was perfectly fine. First off, let me make it clear that I thought this would be a great shop due to an abundance of 5-star reviews. I really wanted to like this shop and fully intended to bring my bike here for all my service needs. I can't comment to anyone else's experience, only my own. That said, on to my experience with Moto Tecnica. I have a brand new bike. I brought it in for both my 600 and 1000 mile break-in services. I babied this bike while breaking it in because I want it to run like a champ for as long as possible. I have a service card to document all repairs and service (for any possible warranty issues). I asked Polo to fill out the card for the service done (literally just write "600/1000 mile service" and initial) but he refused. Said "it wasn't important". Red flag #1. I trusted his word on this and went about my way, ignoring my gut reaction that it was odd for him to refuse this simple request. The next time I brought the bike in was for a chain cleaning/lube at 1300 miles. Polo recommended to do this service every 300 miles. Even offered to do it for free. I live fairly close by and I'm in the area frequently, so I didn't even purchase my own supplies for chain maintenance. I followed his advice and figured I'd bring the bike in to have the chain cleaned every 300 miles like he suggested and leave a nice tip for the service. The next time I took the bike in (1700 miles), I noticed the chain was looser than normal. Remember, this is a brand new bike. When I arrived, the chain was inspected by Polo and I was informed that I needed a brand new chain because I "ran it dry". He even mentioned the slack in the chain as one of the reasons that it needed to be replaced. Granted, I went 100 miles over the 300 mile chain service interval suggested by Polo (and I got caught in a bit of rain omw home after the 1300 mile chain service), but I was following his recommended chain service interval, so my bs meter went off. My bike is garage-kept and I take good care of it. Red flag #2. Polo adjusted the chain to remove the slack and said that I can return in a week to have the chain replaced. Instead, I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. I went to another shop, explained the situation, and had my chain inspected. Upon visual inspection, the mechanic actually laughed and told me that there's nothing wrong with my chain. He got it up on the lift and checked for any tight spots in the chain; there were none whatsoever. Additionally, he mentioned that new chains will need to be adjusted for slack as they break in, which is why the rear wheel of my bike has the ability to be adjusted for proper chain tension. My chain was perfectly fine. I went ahead and made multiple additional inquiries about my chain; not a single person stated that the chain was bad and needed to be replaced. In fact, it was the opposite. My bike with less than 2000 miles needing a new chain? Yo, I got laughed at. People even joking that I 'd have to purposely try to wreck a new chain to need it changed with so few miles. Moto Tecnica might do right by some people, but that wasn't my experience. Like the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Mama didn't raise a fool, so safe to say, I have since found a new mechanic because I can't trust this place. If you get that gut feeling like I did, ffs, don't hesitate to get a second opinion. I'm glad that I did. Please learn from my experience so you can make the best informed decision regarding your motorcycle maintenance needs. read more

Serious advice, don't go cheap (Task Rabbit) when you have reasonably priced mechanics like Polo. Second time Polo looked at my bike after I needed help with a new battery tender (I'll be traveling for a bit) and tire pressure. Despite having a packed schedule, he took my bike in. Got the job done in 2-3 hours and called me promptly when it was done. Only charged $25 for the job. Was honest when I asked if I needed a fluid change (I didn't), doesn't try to upsell. Hands down excellent service! Polo the owner of the shop is a great listener, extremely knowledgeable, detailed, has an excellent memory, and all around dope. In other words, he's the real MVP Took my new Vespa Primavera in for it's first 600 mi service, (even tho it was over 900 mi ) but Polo didn't trip. He explained the importance of doing so instead: metal shavings from new parts collect in the various oils of the bike and it can damage the bike if not taken care of. We also chatted about general maintenance for this type of bike which made me feel more secure and safe. I had also asked him to sell me a license plate frame because I didn't want to represent the dealer, and when I picked up the bike, he had installed a sleek black frame and refused to charge for it. After chatting some more, turns out he remembered me from when I took my former vintage Vespa to the shop 7 years ago! Remembered the issue I brought it in for and everything. Both of us may have acquired more greys and more wrinkles since 2014, but we also have more love for riding and for the safety of the motorcycle community. Very trustworthy shop. I bought a used bike and brought it into the shop to get a broken left turn signal repaired. Background: I was a rider with a little less than a year of experience, but no real mechanical experience. However, the moment I walked in, the mechanic started pushing other repairs on me, barely taking a look at the issue at hand. By the end of the inspection, he recommended that I replace parts of the clutch, get an alignment, and an oil change, which would have cost me a total of $2.5k, excluding the turn signal repair (you know, the reason I was there in the first place). He also heavily emphasized that I shouldn't be riding the bike at all until all the repairs were done. I told him I'd think it over, but agreed to the turn signal repair, and he promised to have it ready before 6 pm that day. I even called a few hours beforehand to confirmed he finished the repair and that the 6 pm time was still good. He said yes as long as it was before 6 pm, I'd be able to pick it up. However, when I arrived at 5:48 pm, he was closing the doors and he said he could reopen and let me take it back if I had cash (the electronic system was turned off or something but basically he couldn't turn it back on until the next day). I had to come back the next day, causing an inconvenience to myself and my roommate who drove me there. Afterwards, I went to a different mechanic shop to get a second opinion and the guy there confirmed my suspicions. The clutch was fine, the oil change could wait, and the bike could use an alignment, but it wasn't necessary (unlike what I was told). I noticed some red flags during my visit, like the mechanic's immediate push for costly repairs ("get ready to spend") and his assumption that I had plenty of money possibly based on my gear I was wearing ("well you can afford it"). The second mechanic agreed. The first mechanic's explanation for the clutch repair was also confusing as he basically said that the friction zone was too far which I thought was weird because even with my limited mechanical experience, I was pretty sure that that could be adjusted easily. I'm giving this shop a 2-star rating because at the end of the day, they did fix my turn signal promptly. Now I can't say for certain they didn't rip me off with the price, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there. If you're a experience rider with some mechanical knowledge, maybe they'll treat you normally and won't try to sell you on unnecessary repairs. But if you're a new rider, I'm not sure if I can trust this shop for future repairs. read more

The electrical was shot, bulbs kept burning out, and my tail light wouldn't light up,needed back breaks, and apparently the battery was wrong for the bike...not to mention the circus of wires that it had(alll bad) Anyways long story short... I haven't come across a business that made such a great first impression on me like Moto Tecnica in a really long time. Especially a repair/service shop. First thing I noticed was the shop is SUPER CLEAN and ORGANIZED, which again is not something I am used to with repair shops. It's a very welcoming business. They had MotoGP playing on the TV. The mannequin in full Moto gear standing outside welcoming you is cooler than most of us will ever look standing in full gear in the baking sun. I visited Moto Tecnica intending to just purchase a few supplies to do my first chain clean/lube and adjustment on my first sport bike. Polo helped me pick out what I needed then reminded me that they also do service and repairs. Naturally, I asked how much hoping the price would be worth for me not to get my hands dirty and instead just pay a pro to do it. Polo said "FREE", definitely not expecting that. Like everyone, I am usually skeptical about FREE and jokingly asked Polo how the shop makes any money and he laughed and said, "not from lube and chain adjustment jobs." He reminded me how messy the job can get sometimes and the fact that the spray smell sticks to the skin....I am sold...no appointment needed. So I dropped by the next day (today) and I kid you not, he delivered as promised and was all done within 15 minutes my arrival. He cleaned and lubed the chain, checked the fluids, adjusted tire pressure, and made sure everything else looked fine. FREE. The chain slack was within spec. He recommended I get the chain cleaned every 300 miles and he would check the chain slack again. Polo would not even accept a cash tip for his valuable time. I will be going to Moto Tecnica for oil changes, tires, gear, tuning from now on. Guaranteed. Polo and Moto Tecnica have loyal customer.
