We had the worst experience here . First, my husband got his gold chain cleaned. . He gave it back to him with dirt and gunk still on it and sticky. 2. We also brought my husband Movado battery in to be changed on his watch , how he broke the second hand on changing a battery is beyond me. . We came to pick it up four days later. Inside the face of the watch, it was fingerprints and lint all in the watch which we don't have access in unless we're taking the watch apart. totally unbelievable will not be going back. I hope that the secondhand is fixed correctly because the next step will be in court. . Totally careless And unprofessional... Horrible place to go !!!! read more

I stopped by here on my way home from picking up my new engagement ring from another jeweler. I was paranoid after reading a review from the place I originally purchased my ring from that they had switched a diamond. I went in close to closing time and asked them if they would check my ring to make sure the diamond was real still after it had been out to be resized. Jose was happy to help me and look at my ring immediately! Luckily there was no issues. Then I had asked about some sizing issues and he came up with many solutions. I can understand why these reviews are 4 and 5 years old. I took a copper medallion in to have a small ring soldered onto the top so I could hang it on a silver chain. The chain had been broken. They were supposed to replace the chain clasp and provide a loop / ring large enough for the clasp. When I picked it up, I discovered that they had soldered the chain together, no clasp. The ring/ loop had a 1/4"+ opening and was soldered crooked! I can't believe I had to pay $34.00 for this $hitty job. I think it would be a good idea for this "jeweler" to retire. I am filing a small claims action for the $34 plus the cost to replace the one ounce copper medallion. read more

I went in to have the clasp on my sterling silver chain replaced, not very personable. At first I was given a price of $12 and a one week turnover time then I was given a price of $14. I asked if I can get an exact price and was told he could not give me an exact price. I chose to go to a different establishments. read more

I have a few watches and too often they dont get into the rotation and the batteries go dead. I had a watch I wanted to wear for Easter and I found this jewelry store that I called and said they could get me in and out on 10 minutes and it would only cost $15. I've paid double that recently for my other everyday watches and upward of $100 for higher end watches that supposedly need to be Re-pressurized even for a battery change this. Well I couldn't get to the store until just before 3 pm and the door was locked. Did I go to the wrong place? While I checked my phone a kindly gentleman opened the door and asked me if he could help me. I didn't know they were closing at 3pm for the Easter holiday and it was now 258pm. He took a look and had me in and out in less than 5 minutes with a working watch that I'll be wearing this Sunday brunch. Thanks for staying open for me, thanks for the quick service and thanks for the very very fair pricing for the service. Went in today to have a watch battery changed because my backlight had stopped working. Gave him the watch at 11:38. He can back out at 11:46 and said the light works but the clock does not. I said it worked when i came on here and he said no it didn't! I said then why is the time on the watch only 6 minutes ago if it was not working? So disappointed in Al's Jewelers. I had used them before and they initially did a good job in sizing my ring. I brought another ring in and it was antique. I asked them to size the ring and they charged me 67.00. When I picked up the ring, I noticed that it fit tighter than a size 8. My first ring fit perfect and they told me I was a size 8. Secondly, the surface of the stone was cloudy, as if the sparkle had been buffed out. What was once a shiny green stone, was now dull. I took the ring home and my husband not only pointed out that it was not as shiny, but the ring shape had changed, the jeweler did a poor job in making the ring round again. I decided to return and ask Al's to fix the problems with the ring. I was shocked at the reaction of the staff at Al's Jewelers. They accused me of lying about the brilliance of the stone and also stated that they ring shape was that way because of the sizing. They kept calling the ring "OLD" and that, even after admitting that they polished the ring, claimed that the ring's stone was already damaged. I quickly pulled out previous photos of the stone and ring prior to the resizing to show them that they had damaged the ring and they insisted that I was lying. In my 57 years of life, I have never been treated so disrespectfully and rude. Al's jewelers refused to fix the damage and gave me a refund of the sizing. I am still left with a damaged ring that is A. not my size and B. a cloudy stone. To add insult to injury, The ring cut my finger as I tried to show them the the ring was too small. I will never recommend this Jeweler. read more

The son is a real creep. We went to pick up my mom's gold necklace because we were local. We didn't have the slip so he let us know we couldn't pick it up. He looked around said he didn't see anything with our name in it insinuating that we were not being truthful. It was weird as all he had to do was tell us we needed the claim check. When my mom went in today with the claim check she picked up her necklace. As she got home and looked closely it was clear that it wasn't the same chain it when in on but a shorter cheaper gold chain. My mom received this from her mother years ago and knew the weight, where it hit her on her chest and what it looked like like the back of her hand. She can't prove it now but I want others to know because they would be smart to be careful especially if the son is involved. My mom is elderly and I am pissed off. read more

Today I picked up my gold necklace and ring repair which was $45 together. The jeweler waited until I came into the store for pickup to polish and finish the ring. Buyer be aware! They ruined my ring. I brought in a ring with a broken prong and the son said the best thing was to build it back up. When I went to pick it up, they had cut all the other prongs down and set the stone on the bottom of the setting. I told them I was displeased and they said I have the wright to my opinion. I paid for the botched job (just to get my ring back) and am taking the ring to another jeweler to have a new setting put in and the ring restored to pristine condition. They also played games with rates on rhodium plating jewelry. The son quotes one price and the mom charges another price. I will never purchase or take another piece of jewelry here again. read more

Would give them 4.5 stars if it were possible, but my complaint is minor. Last week I broke a pendant and needed it repaired. Found Al's on Yelp, sounded good and it was close to home, so we took it in. Al gave us a fair price and said it would be ready the next day. It was, and the repair was excellent. We also had them replace 3 watch batteries - well done. So why knock them down a 1/2 star? The somewhat lackadaisical attitude about price. Also (possibly) the attempt to "up-sell". When we asked what they would charge to replace watch batteries, the answer was: "$4-$10" depending on the watch, even though all 3 watches were lying right on the counter. When they brought the watches back, we were told that since we had 3 watches done, they were discounting the price and charging us only $20. So we still don't know what they charge to replace a watch battery. To contrast: we called the jewelry place near where we used to live (La Canada, CA) and asked what they charge to replace a watch battery today. Immediate reply: "$3 for standard batteries, $7 for lithium". I don't understand why Al's doesn't give a straight answer such as this. (BTW: all 3 watches use standard batteries. I should have waited till the next time I was up in LA and saved $11.) As one of the other reviewers stated - they always offer to clean your jewelry. And while this is a nice gesture, I hope that people understand that it is probably utilized to try to drum up additional business. Not necessarily a bad thing. In our case, they cleaned my wife's 36 year old wedding ring. Al then told us that the 4 prong setting was getting thin and should be strengthened. This did not surprise us since we've already had it done a couple of times over the years and it has been a while. He then proceeded to tell us that he could do it for $48, but would instead recommend changing it to a 6 prong setting, which would cost $148. This took place on Thursday. On Friday, when we picked up my pendant, I asked him again what it would cost to strengthen the setting, and he told us $58. ??? The next day my wife happened to be in Temecula at a large jewelry store also with a good reputation. They looked at the setting, told her that it should probably be strengthened, but there was no danger at this time and they did not see any reason to replace the 4 prong with a 6 prong. So the result is that I would utilize Al's again, but I would be careful and maybe get a second opinion if a lot of money is involved. Remember: "trust your friends, but cut the deck"! read more
