Originally from New Hampshire, this was my third time getting seafood at this place. The fried shrimp or the tuna sub are probably my favorite things on the menu. Though it was packed as we were taking our order to go, it was quick and easy getting in and out. Friendly staff, very clean restaurant seating area and restrooms. Fried haddock was lightly breaded, moist and delicious. Lobster bisque was outstanding, great flavor and plenty of lobster. I really like this place. When you first walk in, there is a fish counter with some great looking stuff you can carry out. I always say if you walk in a fish place and it smells like fish, GET OUT ASAP!!!! Fresh fish doesn't smell and you'd never know this was a fish place if you were blind. To eat I had a stuff cod (I think that's what it was called). It was outstanding. Great flavor, packed with seafood and a well seasoned breading and a nice sauce (lobsta sauce I think) on top. Very good and well worth the price. You can get cheap food, and you can get seafood, but for the love of Neptune, DON'T EAT CHEAP SEAFOOD! read more

Arrived at 2 pm on a Friday in August. Got a table in 10 minutes and our food 5 minutes later! Good timing. Great full belly clams and generous tasty lobster roll. We definitely recommend Al's seafood! Their food is so good and we love to do take out there on Friday nights and honestly if you have any issues with your food or anything at all and you let management know they will always take care of their customers and make sure they are 100% satisfied! I was pleasantly surprised at the prices and amount of food served. Order at the counter and brought to your table, avoiding a waitressing tip was nice too. Ordered a hot lobster roll which was stuffed full of good lobster meat for only $18! Will definitely return for more seafood my next trip to the beach. I go to Rye several times a year and have been for my whole life, never had been and glad I decided to try it out yesterday! read more

As good as I remembered it. A hidden gem. My husband and I have been driving al day to come to the area for a wedding this weekend. Our mapplication showed we would arrive at Al's at 7:30 pm and Google Maps dutifully told us Al's closes at 8pm. So I called to make sure we could get the two lobster dinner if we showed up at 7:30pm. No problem, we were assured. We arrived to a pretty empty restaurant that was in the process of cleaning for the night. Our order was taken cheerfully - we were made to feel welcomed rather than an intrusion. We ordered the clam chowder as an appetizer and the two lobster dinner and fish & chips plus a Sam Adams and a glass of Pinot noir. The staff just could not have been friendlier while we waited for our food. The chowder arrived piping hot. It was delicious. Lots of clams, potatoes and a very flavorful, thick base. Then came the lobsters. Hot. Fresh. Incredible. The fish and chips was great too - lots of delicious Haddock and hot fries. You couldn't have told the kitchen was closing down by the quality and fresh prep of our food. We bought dessert but wound up bringing it back to the hotel. Too full from fantastic seafood served by friendly and attentive staff. Love this place and so happy to have had it live up to what I've been telling my husband about for five years! read more

About 20 minutes off the highway, but completely worth the stop! We got the fried seafood platter for two with an upgrade to full-sized shrimp (instead of the baby shrimp) for a dollar or two more. Fountain soda had free refills. We placed our order and entered the dining area which was spacious and clean. A server brought us our food with a big smile. And speaking of big, the portions were quite generous! Haddock, shrimp, scallops, whole belly clams, and fries. Oh, and the best part was the tartar sauce they make in-house and I'm not generally a fan of tartar sauce! Everything was delicious, we left maybe a few fries, and didn't even get a tummy ache (which we always do after eating fried, breaded food!). So I don't normally post reviews on yelp since I prefer to write them up formally for the website I freelance for but I felt compelled to make an exception... First time here (on a Sunday night) walked in to order and line was to the door but moved surprisingly quick. Girl at the cash register was super nice and pleasant as was everyone else I encountered there- the employees seem genuinely happy to work there and it shows. I was seated right after my order by a nice gentleman and a few minutes later my 1lb $7.99 order of steamers came out with piping hot clam juice and drawn butter. Out of the ten in my order only 1 wasn't open and they were definitely not sandy with nice creamy taste. Next up was the $19.99 twin lobster and it was great- I actually like the smaller "chicken" lobsters as the meat is sweeter and less tough than the big ones. Didn't even need to use a cracker either. The cole slaw was tangy and fresh and you're definitely going to want to dip your fries in the homemade tartar sauce...you may not even feel guilty about the gluttony because it tastes so good. On top of a great meal you get to sidestep some of the 95 traffic which is always good in my book. I do agree with some of the other reviews that an air freshener would greatly improve the bathroom's ambience but really the only down side of for me was seeing some people leave without tipping the servers. They are awesome so bring some cash to leave! Wanted to get some good fried seafood so we checked out Yelp and found Al's Seafood. Had some good reviews so we thought we would give them a try. I had the half 'n half plate - fried clam strips and haddock. Came with cole slaw and fries. My sister had the clam strips with cole slaw and fries. The fried clams and fish were fresh, hot, and very good. Fries and Cole slaw were also good. We also tried the clam chowder and the lobster stew. They were also very good. Al's, you have disappointed me tonight. Since I gave you a 5 star review last time, I feel it needs an update from my experience tonight. I gave you 3 stars today, so my reviews will average 4 stars, overall. This was my experience twas 8 o clock Friday nite.. not too busy. 4 other parties already eating and little kids running amok that need some parenting running around. I was not greeted as I stood at the counter for what seemed like a little too long. I don't mind waiting if you are busy in the back, but just greet me and tell me you'll be right with me... it's little things like that that make me want to come back. We ordered a chowder for me and a chicken boat for the mister. While waiting for the food, I used the bathroom that could have used a freshener spray. There was a sign on the door that read in plain English "please knock on the door and wait for a response. the lock is not working properly" Fair enough. Some dumb teenager walked in on me anyways... yes it was her fault, not Al's restaurant, but please, Al's spend the 15 dollars to for a new toggle bolt or $50 to replace the handle. People should not have to deal with that. The next disappointing thing was that Mr. got his chicken boat and I was told my chowder would be right out. It took 5 more minutes. That is always a sad experience to go through. Should my husband wait and his food get cold? no. Should I have to wait drooling? no. There was nothing okay with this. When I did get my chowder, I am assuming it was reheated because it seriously burnt the roof of my mouth. It still hurts. I just don't understand the rationale behind serving people's food at different times at the same table. I wrote out a comment card that gave my Yelp! URL so Al's could read this and I hope they do. (except the first pencil I picked out of the jar had a broken tip and i had to get up to get another one.) I really like this place, truly, but I wasn't pleased tonight. The staff just were not on the top of their game, obviously. I hope management will sort out whatever kink was in the line today. read more

The seafood is as average as it gets. However the ambiance is quite nice. You simply order your overpriced paper plate of grease at a window. Then, a lovely young girl delivers it to your comfy booth. Never a rush, and the eating area is quite attractive. If you've ever suffered through a meal a Bob's Crap Hut then you can expect more of the same. The fish is usually very fresh but the batter they use is not all that great. When you eat a fried haddock sandwhich, the oil drips onto the plate like a BP leak. A few years ago the owner (who I believe is no longer there) told my wife that the whale bone hanging from the ceiling in the eating area was a whale penis. Maybe it's true? Despite the mediocre quality of the food, we visit there every two months or so. read more

We wanted seafood during our beach vacation and wanted something away from the activity of the boardwalk. We're so glad we picked Al's! The stuffed shrimp, grilled swordfish, seafood kabobs and coconut shrimp were all outstanding. The prices are extremely reasonable so we got a great value. read more

Could have been a 5 star but... Ordered fried clams, lobster stew and lazy man's lobster. Fried clams were sweet, tender and nicely fried. Lobster stew had a very flavorful broth and was loaded with tender lobster. The lazy man's lobster was another story. Tough, flavorless, dried out lobster saturated in an oil that had no resemblance to what was supposed to be butter, that ruined an otherwise positive experience. Will have to think twice about another try. Lots of other great places available for consistent meals. read more

I looked into outside dining options in the area last week and found Al's. I wound up going 3 days and the food was great. I had steamers outside one of the days, a twin lobster dinner one evening and fried clams the 3rd day. I also bought an extra salad for breakfast for the following day. Everything was excellent! The locals seem to like it and I agree. They also have a fish market which was very busy. I am originally from Boston so I love seafood and I see why the reviews are so complimentary. I am a long time former resident of No. Hampton. My husband and I recently stopped in for lunch on Wednesday the 5th. This used to be a favorite spot for fish but no longer. Waited a long time for our meals. My fish was ok but not hot. My husband's swordfish was cold. I asked it to be reheated. The French fries on both plates were undercooked, we waited a long time for the reheated salmon to reappear. Don't know why it took so long as there were only 2 other tables in use at the time. LOVE this place. We went on vacation in Seabrook last week and checked a few sites to see the ratings on their seafood. Al's came up as 5 star so we figured we would try it. Twin lobsters were $19.99 and took less than ten mins for them to cook up for us for take out! We lived fifteen minutes away and when we got home they were still steaming and delicious. We also got four pounds of steamers and they were so delicious! Usually steamers have some sand and such and you have to dip them in the water first but these were so clean!!! I also got the clam chowder and it was AMAZING- not too thick and it was packed with seafood and potatoes. They had a huge variety on their menu and I can't wait to go back and try something new! ---I also love that they do a "lazy mans lobster"... As some of us hate cracking open the lobster and doing all the work to get the meat out haha. Try it out!!!! read more

I can't give this place enough stars! This is my husband's favorite restaurant if we're in the area this is the place we eat. You can't beat the price's! It's order and pay first then sit inside they call your number and they bring you your food. They have outdoor seating as well which worked out awesome when bringing our dog. Excellent! Super fresh, nothing over-cooked, fairly priced, not over-sourced, and the tastiest lobster stew I have ever had. I think the onion rings are sliced too thin and loose their flavor as a result, that's why only 4 stars from me. But don't let that stop you, otherwise you'll miss out if you're in the area and looking for good seafood. It is also organized well, nice seating, kind staff and no long waits. Before Covid we had occasionally purchased seafood here to take home to cook. We also had at least one meal on site. Today, feeling a need for seafood, I decided to stop and get some lunch. First: this place takes covid precautions seriously, for which I am grateful. I ordered the fantail shrimp dinner. I love shrimp, but sometimes hesitate to order it because so many places overcook the shrimp. Not here at Al's. I received a takeout order that consisted of 15 large and well prepared shrimp, a good size serving of fries and a cup of coleslaw. My friends sometimes tease me for being what they call a food snob, a charge for which I must plead guilty. I know good food, I used to cook professionally and I love to eat. The shrimp were very well prepared. The batter is light and crispy without being at all greasy. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, not overcooked, tough or in any way inferior. The fries tasted like potatoes, which may sound silly, but far too many places use frozen potatoes that don't taste like anything other than grease and salt. I even enjoyed the coleslaw, which is very rare for me. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. No, it is not cheap, but seafood anywhere is costly and this is the seacoast. Overall, this place is great and I will be back with friends and co-workers. Thanks for a good meal! read more
