This is the second time I've eaten lunch at Al's and have yet to be disappointed. Today I decided to start out with the clam chowder followed by the fish and shrimp combo with fries and slaw. The clam chowder had an excellent balance of clams, potatoes, and seasonings. The chowder wasn't over watery and left you wanting to lick the bowl. The fish was haddock and was breaded and fried perfectly. The shrimp was perfectly sized and breaded as well. They give you a large portion of fries that will definitely fill you up if the fish and shrimp doesn't. Paid $28 for the soup, combo, and a fountain drink. Some may think this is pricey, but not me. But the young girl waiting on me was totally disinterested, no communication whatsoever, and it seems like she didn't want to be there. What do you do after a day at the beach? You grab some awesome seafood from Al's! FOOD: We came here for lunch after the beach and ordered 3 lobster rolls and the seafood platter for 2. The lobster rolls were JAM PACKED with lobster meat and were decently sized. The seafood platter was delicious and went super well with the tarter sauce. Giving it 4 stars since we were expecting larger sized belly clams and shrimp in the seafood platter. The corn we ordered on the side could've been sweeter as well, or at least, had been brushed with some sort of salted butter (rather than unsalted butter) to add some flavor to the bland corn itself. Other than that, definitely a great experience. OUTDOOR SEATING: Due to COVID-19, they placed outdoor benches for customers to use and eat at. Moved to Hampton this year and are still checking out places. A woman in Shaw's recommended the fish market and I tried it yesterday. The cod was lovely and fresh. Baked for dinner with garlic butter sauce, it was delicious. Also brought home some seafood chowder for lunch. It was even better! I hate gloppy chowder! This was creamy and not over thickened. We went back to Al's last week. Our daughter and her boy friend were here from Denver for the long weekend, She was missing lobster and he had never had it. There were a bunch of us but the staff pulled tables together and made things work. All the food was fantastic as was the service. As west coasters and our first time on the East Coast, we HAD to get seafood for brunch! amirite, guys?! We asked our cousin, where do we go for REALLY GOOD clam chowder? There's a huge fridge where you can buy raw seafood and cook it at home, and then there's a small counter with a menu at the top. We were overwhelmed, to say the least. "Take over, cousin!" She ordered 5 orders of the "steamers" aka clams, 4 large clam chowder (basically, like 16oz), 3 small clam chowders (8oz), seafood platter for 2 (fried seafood), calamari, onion rings, fries, and maybe about three other dishes that I can't remember. Mind you, this is for a party of 10 at like, 11am in the morning! + Clam chowder = delicious, but it IS pretty heavy so I didn't want to finish my 16oz, because I wanted to save room for every other dish. + Seafood platter = fried scallops, fish, shrimp, and clams = delicious, but that's a lot of fried foods + Calamari, onion rings, fries = what you'd expect + STEAMERS .... let me tell you about the STEAMERS!!! = Okay, is this an east coast thing? because I've never had steamers before and I friggin went to TOWN on these! First of all, the process of eating these little bad boys is something that needs to be taught. First open shell, remove body, REMOVE the little jacket that the body is wearing (thin sheath of membrane-y something-or-other), swish swish swish in this cup of hot water that they provide, and then dunk dunk into the tub of melted butter. Probably the best place to get a seafood lunch and avoid a 2 hour break from work. These guys are really Johnny on the spot and I have got my steamers and twin lobsters in 15 or so minutes which makes it possible to go there for lunch during the week and still get back to work. The chowder is ready almost immediately and the steamers are as clean and fresh as any other place you can get them. It has a log-cabin type feel with light pine walls, a large stone fireplace, and an exposed beam cathedral ceiling. Booths surround the perimeter of the dining room with tables gathered in the middle. The menu consists of your typical fried seafood fare, baked and grilled seafood, lobster, chowders, salads, a few simple items for landlubbers, a kids menu, and the very important wine and beer list. Al's Seafood, first the good. The service for a VERY CASUAL restaurant was very good. A nice bunch of young people who were willing to help anyway they could. That was the extent of the good. Our table had a fried seafood platter for 2 and another for one. The one had 4 Small whole belly clams, some small paper thin scraps of haddock, 4 small scallops and. Handful of the smallest shrimp I have ever seen and I am 75. They were so small they couldn't even hold the batter. The platter for 2 was the same but had 2 more clams, 2 more scallops a little more fish and shrimp plus a pile of more fries. Overall one of the worst fried seafood dinners in my life. In fairness they came with small container of coleslaw that was excellent and we ordered a small fried onion rings that were ok. Maybe we hit if on a bad day but I could never risk my hard earned money to try it again. I hope if you go you will have a better experience. I hate to write bad reviews because I know how hard owners and employees work, BUT I have visited this place twice now and both times I have received a foul and unhappy lobster. The first time my son got a lobster (his first) that had clearly been dead in the tank for a while. It was unspeakable. He will never try lobster again. Al's was nice about it and gave us a replacement lobster, which was fine. So I thought I'd give them a second chance. This time I got a lobster that wasn't dead prior to cooking, per se, but was probably heavily depressed. Maybe suffering from existential angst and feeling angry about its lot in life. It did not taste fresh at all. Not at all tasty, despite the drawn Within an hour or leaving the place, I had to pull over on the highway with dire lobster diarrhea. Not a pretty experience! Sorry, Al's, but we won't be giving you a third chance. UPDATE: Thank you Al's for your thoughtful reply. Let's assume these sad lobsters were an aberration! Next time I'm in the area, I'll try to come by. My friends did say the fried clams and scallops were delicious. read more

I have taken my family to Hampton Beach for almost 30 years. Our first stop as soon as we're in the neighborhood is always Al's. Best seafood in the area period. The fish was the freshest I have ever had, fries were so tasty and crispy and you can tell the oil everything was fried in was very clean. The fish was crispy delicate and moist aka fried to perfection. The lobster roll was how it should be, lobster and mayo, Nothing else. FRESH FRESH lobster taste. I got a side of baked Mac N Cheese which was perfectly cheesy. I also ordered the onion rings, this is a must try! Overall Al's seafood was an awesome find, I will be back ASAP. Pretty good place. Has both a restaurant and seafood deli type area. I opted for the restaurant. They have an extensive menu so I finally decided after staring at it for 5 minutes. The workers seem to be young female college type. Everyone was pleasant and seemed to like their jobs. I went with the clam chowder, a lobster roll and a crab cake sandwich. Everything was good.
