We were over at the Seacoast for the weekend and wanted to have lunch before driving home. I had noticed this place another day when driving by so we thought we would give it a try. So glad we did! The entrance took us into the fresh fish market which we checked out when we left. This is not a sit, be waited on type of establishment, but rather there are boards with all the offerings clearly visible and an ordering area. The order takers were friendly and helpful. There were so many yummy things on the menu, we couldn't decide, but finally went with a seafood plate to share and onion rings. We were given a number and told our food would be delivered to us---nice instead of standing there waiting! We went into the dining area which was nice and clean and not too busy so we had our choice of booths. People at other tables seemed to be enjoying their food which looked really good. We didn't have to wait long before our food was brought to us and since we were sharing it was nice that extra plate and utensils came then too instead of having to ask for them again which happens quite often when sharing. Bottles of tartar sauce and ketchup were brought too. The food was so good! We rarely do fried food so this was a real treat for us and to not have it be full of grease was a real bonus. The onion rings were fantastic---lightly battered and cooked just right and a huge portion. The seafood plate consisted of whole clams, scallops, fish small shrimp along with crispy, fresh French fries and coleslaw. As is typical, there were lots of fries, but there was plenty of seafood too---enough for 2 of us and more than enough for 1. The seafood was so yummy and so fresh. Loved it! We noticed there were quite a few people coming in for takeout orders so imagine this is the go to place for fresh seafood. Before we left, we checked out the fresh fish market. Prices seemed reasonable just as they were for our meal and the fish looked appealing and fresh. Staff was very friendly! someone wrote about a sewer smell, i figured it was old rotting fish, but it smells like the dumpster is never emptied. they burned my 'grilled' fish, i can't get the bad taste out of my mouth. iced coffee is on the menu so i asked for one. they gave me a cup & directed me to where the ice & coffee was. the coffee was hot which of course immediately melts the ice. they actually consider this method to be 'ice coffee'. sick. i returned my cup & asked for just water & it tasted terrible, like bad tap water so, i gave that back & decided on a hot coffee. their coffee is just a brownish version of the tap water. ah yes, & the putrid smell...you are met with it on the way in & on the way out. i would have left upon smelling it on arrival but it was not my choice. i had been there before & didn't like it then either. read more

And the people there are always friendly & efficient. But a few weeks ago I ordered from the take-out counter: the "plate" of fish & chips. $12.99 plus tax, came to around $14. I stopped in to Al's last night after reading all the reviews and deciding to check it out since it's so close to my house. I got the fried lobster platter to go. When I got home, I took my first bite of a thin strip of lobster meat and it was tough and rubbery, like bad calamari. I hoped that it was just because it was a small piece of meat that just got over-done, but no, the rest of the meat was similar in texture. However, when I arrived to pick up my order, I got 2 plates of clams. The bag had someone else's phone number. That was clearly not my order. When I started arguing about that, they gave me my order (3 plates of haddock/scallops) and the general manager asked me NOT to call them again. Wow... Wow... I have never seen such attitude even in third world countries (I traveled a lot). That's no way to run a business in the US. Later my credit card was additionally charged $30.51 for 2 plates of clams that they threw away. I'll dispute that transaction with my credit company. Granted all three lobsters are chix and right about a pound so you're not getting a lot of meat but compared to Texas where you'd get one for the same price this is a steal. Unfortunately going here was a terrible experience! There were more flies in the dining room than there we guests! It was disgusting! I overlooked the flies as much as possible. My mother and I ordered the baked stuffed haddock topped with a lobster sauce. Upon the first bite I though it was delicious. Unfortunately by the second bite I realized the entire seafood entree was cold. Not warm but COLD! I was told they would get this corrected right away and quickly. If you've ever worked in kitchen, which I have, that means there're going to throw your food in a microwave. It was a $17 entree. I requested a full refund and got it. It's really to bad because it tasted great and I'm sure I would have loved it if it wasn't FOOD POISONING waiting to happen! The internal temperature of the entree was likely 60 degrees, only off by 100 degrees. I will be reporting this to the state of NH. Under-cooked food and an unreasonably disgusting amount of flies in the dining room and open kitchen is unexceptionable and will get people sick. This is the best ! Instead of other seafood places on Ocean BLVD, we go to Al's even though we live at the beach. Al's has the best chicken tenders and fried shrimp out there. We've been eating here for 15 years and the food is consistently excellent. The fries are that bubbly double fried kind that are hard to find. The counter service is always good and courteous. For starters this is like at take out joint that they added a very casual eating area. Shorts and a tank top and you over dressed !! The staff was very pleasant and friendly. They stand at like a take out window and take your order.. The we ordered several fried seafood dishes and the twin lobster. The prices were a tad bit high considering the the accommodations . However for NH in a touristy area its to be expected . CUZ ITS ALL OVERPRICED !!! The main issue I had was the portion size. I ordered the "half n half" half fantail shrimp and half clamstrips . Generally you get like 10 Shrimp and they jus throw a ton of clamstrips on the platter however in this case there were like 8 shrimp and a SERIOUSLY SMALL amount of clamstripes. So small I'm writing this review. The platter cost $23.00 for the cost it jus wasn't worth it esp in comparison to other restaurants I've eaten at. Im not really a picky person and I usually can jus give a restaurant a pass. It was later in the evening .Staff was nice. But this place was jus too expensive for the QUANTITY of food they put out. I always read reviews before I go to a restaurant. I took my family to Al's seafood today. They make you pay for the food before you can sit inside and eat it. We paid for the food. I ordered a cup of coffee the girl throws a pile of equal sweetener on the table. I asked her if she had real sugar she said "no that's it". My father ordered the Seafood casserole it came out in a tv dinner tray the seafood was uncooked and watered down with cream. It was the most disgusting meal we have ever had! My daughter ordered the fried shrimp it was undercooked and she only ate one piece it was so bad. I ordered lobster and rice pilaf, the rice pilaf looked like it was made a week ago I couldn't eat it, the lobster tasted like rubber it had been boiled so long. The drawn butter didn't taste like butter it tasted like margarine or oil. The meal cost us $90.00! On the way home my father had to pull over the car to vomit up the uncooked seafood! My daughter complained that her stomach ached so bad she felt sick! This was definitely the most disgusting unsafe meal we have ever had!
