Hello everyone, I had lunch at the dinner horn the food was outstanding. My waitress was the very best, but the hostess left a bad taste in my mouth when she asked me where I wanted to eat. Six of us ate lunch here on August 28 th . Food was very good . Our waitress was very abrasive . The restaurant itself was not busy @2:30 .She offered us dinner rolls but because only 4 of us ordered entrees she told us there would be an up charge for 2 extra rolls at $.60 each. Was really excited to try this restaurant because we kept hearing about it on the radio. We got there they told us fifteen minutes then came back less than a minute to seat us because someone cancelled. It was off to a good start. Our server was not very good, she never introduced herself, was quick and short and kept rushing us to order drinks. We ordered quickly because we didn't have much time to look over the menu and got food we usually get at other restaurants; calamari, a Rueben and decided to try their lobster bowl. The calamari was bland, had no flavor and VERY chewy, it was gross and overcooked. We decided to wait thinking entrees would redeem the food. The lobster bowl looked good so I was excited, and the Rueben was fine. Then I tried the lobster bowl which was REALLY NOT GOOD I couldn't tell if the lobster bowl was overcooked or undercooked...it was just gross. Our waitress came by and asked how the food was, I told her that I'm not really a fan of the calamari and that it was really chewy. She said nothing but "I'll get my manager." And walked away. One women came up, never introduced herself either and I repeated the calamari tasted overcooked, was chewy and had no flavor. She takes the plate away. Our waitress came back and asked if we wanted boxes, we boxed the Rueben and I had told her no I didn't like the lobster bowl, she gave me a dirty look and took that plate away after. Then, another woman, someone different came back up with our receipt and then told us "If you guys ever come back here just don't order the seafood because it's $40 and it's not cheap." I replied, "Okay, the seafood was chewy and overcooked it was not good and had no flavor." And she replies with "Okay well we have the freshest seafood on the Seacoast." Odd a supervisor or a manager would have these kind of responses. They were staring us down on our way out. Have been driving by this place for years and thought it was truly a German Restaurant, and then at times even thought it was closed & they just left the sign up... But was out with just Mom and no kids one day so we stopped in. The menus is decent, lots of options from all cuisines. We started with some apps, and then got 2 Seafood/Fish plates and they were GOOD... Drinks were good, service was good. Visit Date: May 26, 2019 My family and I have been making an annual trip to NH to see some members of my father's family. We came to Dinnerhorn to try to have a nice dinner with my dad's family. I say try because I have a rambunctious almost 3 year old that sometimes sits down at restaurants and my sister has a budding toddler so it's not easy. The restaurant staff was pretty easygoing about us having kids which I appreciated. I had two of what I now call my mommy tranquilizers which is pinot grigio. I got salmon to eat because I was drinking my WW points with corn and another vegetable. The salmon was good, the veggies were fresh. Hubby got lobster he said it was okay. Overall dinnerhorn wasn't a bad place, wouldn't mind coming back again to enjoy it a little more when I don't have small kids which will be in 8 to 10 years since we're not trying for a number 2 until our son is 4.5. read more

This USED to be a good restaurant, went their this evening with 4 others. Appetizers Crab cakes (4) size of silverdollar, Calamari, chewy and flavorless and had a strange smell, Steamers were not too bad. Beef medalions overdone. Extra dressing for salad .60 each (how petty) Baked stuff lobster (1.5 lbs $49.00) very dry, Lobster pies were adequate, but they use a different type of crumb. They did make us a pot of coffee (whoopee). For desert strawberry short cake, Buiscuit, fresh strawberries, icecream, and whip cream, We asked where the usual strawberry sauce was, they said they use fresh strawaberries, so no sauce. That is not a strawberry shortcake. As we were discussing this at the table, another waitress came to our table and gave us crap about complaining about the strawberry short cake. HOW RUDE!!!! We talked to the on-duty manager, who seemed to not care less, and was more anxious to get back to what ever he was doing, or eating or drinking, I cant say. It was late and Dinnerhorn was almost closed so I sat in the bar area (which is a different name and open later). After asking Allison, the bartender, a few questions about the menu I decided on her recommendation the Louie salad. I was looking for something moderately healthy, and this seemed like the way to go. 3 bites in and I was sold. The amount of fish on this salad and the excellent homemade dressing made the dish. Allison was busy, but kept up and another woman came out to help run food and close out checks. It was a nice experience for a quick meal traveling for business. My husband ordered the stuffed grape leaves appetizer, which was a meal in itself. His Golf Group had gone there yesterday, and he was still raving about the super fresh fish and chips he'd had then. Classic casual restaurant that is a staple to the Route 1 landscape in Portsmouth. Alongside the tidal marshes, the Dinnerhorn serves above average fare at resonance proves. Their baked haddock dinner is a favourite of mine. The dining room is on the darker side, but it's a great place to go to escape a hot and humid summer afternoon. On the backside of the restaurant is the Bratskellar...which is actually connected. It's a more laid back pub style atmosphere service up its famous bar pizzas. For a Saturday night in august, we had no wait time and were seated right away. The music was good lots of good throwbacks, but the important thing here is the food. Me and bae split crab cakes as an appetizer and they were so good. I ordered the seafood fettuccine and it was to die for. Well, a very interesting first time trip to this restaurant. At first we saw the rest of the reviews and starts on Yelp saying 4 stars + but we are in awe about our trip. First off, we ordered a few beers and took about 30 mins to receive them. While our server put my beer infront of me, her thumb was fully submerged in it, lol. We choose Dinnerhorn because the menu covered all possibilities. I was only going to eat seafood on this mini-vacation but the wife has no passion for this. My son had gotten his fill of burgers and wanted some options. Dinnerhorns vast menu gave us the highest probably satisfying everyone. I had the fried fish sampler (Calamari, Scallops, Shrimp), my wife the sirloin strip steak as they were out of Prime rib, and my son went with the Lasagna. All of the meals were good enough, nothing really stood out or knocked your socks off. The size of the entrees is on the larger size so that's a plus. They have a nice variety, with plenty of non-fishy options for Mom. We always enjoy our meal here. It is connected to a pizza pub as well, which seems nice though we haven't tried it. This location used to be a favorite a few years back for my significant other and I. So, when we were in the area last Saturday we decided to go there again after a ride down the coast. This isn't an area we frequent often, but this location used to be special for us - so we were looking forward to our meal. We used to have a favorite waitress back in the day, but of course things changed, and we didn't see her either. I ordered the Seafood Fettuccini with garlic butter, as that's the meal I used to get - I used to have them mix 1/2 garlic butter and 1/2 alfredo. So, when I got my meal and it was less than flavorful, it was a bit disappointing. It wasn't awful but wasn't that great experience I was looking for. My partner had an app (oysters) and salad, he said they were good - oysters were fresh. Dessert - bread pudding and molten lava cake ended the meal... I gave my bread pudding to my partner as it was underflavored and reminded me of a very lacking custard. We won't be back. This place held great memories and was a wonderful spot for the many date nights had there, but it lost that luster. Bummer but we went to Atlantic Grille over the summer and would gladly go back there - much better food. Service here at Dinnerhorn wasn't lacking, the waitress was probably the best part of the experience, she was a sweetheart - but I go out for dinner, so I get a break from my own cooking. Service was great, lamb lollipops were perfectly cooked as always, wish they would have a dipping sauce or mint jelly with them. We both got the steak and cheese - Waaaaaay too much cheese but easily fixable by peeling it off the top. However more cheese and bread than steak. Came here with my husband while staying locally on business. Was pleasantly surprised as the location looked a bit weird (kind of mini strip mall-ish). The exterior was deceiving because as we walked in the restaurant were met with a soothing ambience of dimly lit tables and a large fireplace complete with a crackling fire (we'll probably a gas fireplace but who cares). The dark bronzes and earth tones helped to complete the vibe. We were seated right away. And our server was right en point. He was attentive and friendly. Now the food. The menu has a wide variety of differently prepared fresh seafood. As well as beef and chicken options. Husband and I both ordered the fish and chips. I consider myself a bit of a fish and chip connoisseur. The fresh white fish (not haddock), was tender and sweet. The batter was crisp, not too thick and doughy and has a nice flavour. The chips (fries) were cooked just the way I prefer. Crisp in the outside. Could definitely taste that the oil was fresh. (nothing worse than fried food cooked in old oil that lends a bitter taste as well as everything else fried in it). The coleslaw was totally fresh and not to sweet or mayonnaise. The house tarter was also tasty and fresh with a hint of dill. Rolls served with our meal were warm and crusty, complete with a dish of whipped butter not those annoying little packets. All and all a great experience...much more than we were expecting for just lunch! We will revisit this restaurant for sure. read more

Having been born and raised on the seacoast I have been to the Dinnerhorn countless times over the decades. I have fond memories of how it originally was in the early 60s ... place your order at the counter and pick it up when your number was called. Two of my favorites from that era were the fried shrimp and the pizza burger. I rather miss those days. Although I don't get down there as often I'd like to, when I do, my companion and I often visit The Dinnerhorn. Although the bare bones cafeteria-type eatery of my childhood is now a comfortable, full service restaurant one thing hasn't changed. The food and service remains top notch! Especially the seafood! Called in tonight for a takeout order, waited 12 minutes on hold, every 4 mins or so someone yelled into the phone "hold!" Finally when a man answered the phone, I began placing our order, which included coconut shrimp off of the Dinnerhorn menu, and was ordering 3 pizzas as well. Was rudely interrupted and told by the man taking the order I need to call the Dinnerhorn to place the order because the shrimp are on their menu (have never been told that before, we have placed this exact order with the Bratskellar). Before I could speak I was transferred and put on hold again. Once the order was finally placed, I was called back to clarify the items in my order about halfway into the time I was told it will be ready. terrible service and rude staff. Not impressed. I love the Dinnerhorn and Bratskellar. It's a total townie place, I admit, but hey, if the shoe fits... The Dinnerhorn is the more formal side with booth and table seating, and the Bratskellar is the pub on the other side. You can get both menus at the Dinnerhorn side, but only pub stuff on the Bratskellar side. Nice bar, friendly staff, and delicious food. Tonight I had the baked haddock, which was awesome. My fiancée had the shrimp scampi which also looked great- he said the shrimp was a bit over cooked (hence the 1 star deduction) but still practically licked his plate clean. My mom had the lasagna, which she swears by (the sweet sauce is pretty good-I tried some) and my stepfather had the seafood pasta with garlic butter sauce. Also- best buffalo wings in town! They're just the right amount of spice, and not dripping in hot sauce- it's more of a Buffalo rub. Awesome! read more

Wow!!!....Very surprise that this restaurant does not have many reviews.The quality of the food is outstanding! We go there quite often and always enjoy it. Their baked haddock and baked scallops are unbelievable (crumbs are very tasty and scallops are some of the sweetest I've ever had). The prime rib is excellent; tender, tasty and always consistent. Their clam chowder is unreal. You can taste the fresh cream, clam broth, and plenty of clams. That's why I always get a take out for the next day! Would highly recommend as we have never got a dish that we did not totally enjoy! This is a longtime family run business and quality is obviously of the utmost importance to them. read more
