I took my dog who typically needs injections for any medicine he gets.He can't swallow the pills and I explained that to the doctor multiple times and she still sternly suggested he should take pills. The nurses take your animal to the back and you can't see what they're doing. I was waiting for my dog to come back and during that extended time I heard a dog that was screaming crying in agony. The dog crying proceeded for at least more than 20 minutes. I opened the door to see if it was my dog as I was worried. Come to my surprise they're operating on someone else's dog. How is the dog crying while you're cutting him? They must be WATERING DOWN the ANESTHESIA for the animals because no way he was crying that bad. When the nurses saw that I saw they quickly shut the door and locked it! I would be cautious with this place and how they treat animals behind closed doors. We won't be returning. I also would like to add that my dog is now traumatized. He never used to be scared when you touched him and after that visit he has been having bad dreams. This facility doesn't care & TREATS ANIMALS AWFUL!!! Of course the owner going to come on here and say "it didn't happen"... okay...!!!!!!!!!! Really bad experiences at AV. If you go, plan to take a lunch. You're going to be there awhile. My dog has serious anxiety about going to the vet. He shakes. He pees in there. So we were taken to an exam rooom and sat there... and sat there... 45 minutes later, we got up and left. We did not see anybody else come into the exam room. No tech. No vet. Nobody. The next time we went were there about 2 hours. We saw the tech for about 5 minutes. We saw the vet for about 15 minutes. The vet told us she would be right back... an hour later, we left. Never saw her again. I don't care what else is going on. Learn to communicate with the patient owner. We will never go back to AV. They have repeatedly shown they do not care about your time and really your pet. Just horrible service. read more

Shame on Alta Vista Animal Hospital on 7th ave in Phoenix I'm writing this to share my experience so others understand what happened and can make informed decisions. I care for a colony of feral cats -- eight in my backyard and three in the front. All are fixed, healthy, and well cared for. One of them, Shadow, developed a chronic gastrointestinal issue over a year ago. Alta Vista has been treating her with the same medication all this time, and it has kept her stable. Because Shadow is feral, she cannot be safely trapped or handled anymore. Alta Vista has known this from the beginning. Over the past few weeks, I reached out to Alta Vista multiple times through messages, voicemail, and email to request a simple prescription refill for the medication they originally prescribed. I received no response at all. The only time they acknowledged me was when Chewy sent an automated refill request -- not when I personally reached out for help. Despite treating Shadow for over a year and knowing her situation, Alta Vista refused to refill the medication unless I physically brought her in. That is impossible for a feral cat who can no longer be captured. They knew this. They still refused. Shame on Alta Vista for ignoring every message, for not offering any alternatives, and for putting protocol and money ahead of an animal they had already been treating. After being turned down by several places, I finally contacted the Arizona Humane Society -- and the difference was night and day. They offer an online veterinary service where I can show Shadow in my backyard through video. They can see her behavior, see how well she's doing, and prescribe the medication she needs without traumatizing her. They even have weekend appointments. I am relieved and grateful to have finally found a compassionate solution. But it should not have been this hard. I'm sharing this so others know what to expect. In my experience, Alta Vista did not respond, did not help, and did not consider the reality of caring for feral animals. I would not trust them with my pets or my feral colony again. read more

I took my dog, to this hospital this morning. An emergency situation, at least to me. The staff in reception were very nice and helpful. The vet tech Tiara, saw how upset I was and hugged me while I cried! Then, Dr. Helman examined my dog and could see very quickly what the problem was. She explained the issue, laid out the treatment options, and showed me so much compassion. When I decided on which path to take, she said she would put an estimate together. I was expecting the worse, but the cost was a fraction of what I was expecting! This is my new vet now! When I need a vet again, I'm going back to Alta Vista!! I highly recommend this practice!! I haven't always had the best experiences at Alta Vista, but there are some key staff members that make all the difference in the world. Tiara was wonderful with our very nervous old pup. She got down on the floor with him and spoke to him so calmly and pet him so gently, he actually laid down and relaxed. He typically paces and pants and tries to escape. Tiara... Do not go here! This is the worst run veterinary practice I have ever been to and it doesn't stop there. No matter what time your appt is, you will wait! And I don't mean just wait, you'll wait 30 mins in a room, not even in the lobby. They stick you in a room waiting far past the time of your original appointment. They oversell you on medications the pet does not need. They nickel and dime charge you for EVERYTHING. Here is what sealed the deal. I had the horrible experience of having to put to sleep two Parvo kittens and they tested them both and determined they needed to be put down and then charged me $680 and billed me an additional $250 for cremation. That is a true story! Drive past this place and find another veterinarian. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to any animal lover. I came into this Vet Clinic because my dog had puppies and her calcium was low. They took her to the back and I told them if I could finance. I also made it a point to let them know that I don't have good credit. She took my dog to the back and said they were gonna stabilize. Long story short I paid the $30. and they gave me a bill they had me leave my dog and I came back for her they asked me for my debit card. I didnt being my purse so, the girl had the nerve to tell me that I didn'twant them to help me. She walked away with an attitude came back with a new bill of 389.77 from a 260.00 1st bill. Better Vets are needed. I absolutely would never bring my dogs, or anyone's dogs if this was the last option. I'm not sure how not one, but TWO vets were able to miss the fact that my dog did indeed have a defect on his x- rays and put him through a diet that absolutely made him even sick and to the point of him looking unhealthy. I am absolutely devastated with this and truly didn't want to bring it to public but till this day we have not been able to get my boy back to weight after what this hospital put him through for absolutely NO reason. I was honestly going to leave my dogs after a veterinary appointment because despite all my best efforts I could not arrange a payment method due to my banking institution putting restrictions on my funds for exceeding deposit limits. Brought in all my financial records showed my recent deposit and my current account balance well beyond the required amount from Alta Vista. They wouldn't accept a check. CareCredit applications wouldn't except my city and state and I basically ran out of options. Out of sheer frustration I decided to come inside and inform them that I was just going to surrender the dogs and go get new ones from the pound seeing as how we couldn't come to any sort of arrangement regarding payment. I am so grateful to be referred to this hospital. Alta Vista Hospital is a honest, vet, veterinarian hospital and well worth driving distance to go see them to get your animal The care that they need. I have seen three different vets in the past week. The first one wanted to overcharge me ridiculously. The second one gave me antibiotics to give to my dog. My dog was still having symptoms and I received two recommendations to take my dog to Alta Vista veterinarian hospital. The staff are amazing and professional. The staff provided me a list of possible estimates to help my dog. The vet performed an ultrasound on my dog and reassured me. Everything is OK. She did not have infection and did not need to further more tests and inform me that my dog had a prolonged heat which is unusual for dogs, but it can happen. I'm grateful that I did not have to do an emergency spay and other various costs. I highly recommend this veterinarian office. I paid a little bit more than $100 for a vet exam and an ultrasound and so grateful for this honest veterinarian& Hospital. read more

Today I put to sleep my beloved Boston Terrier Eva who gave us 14 years of joy and she will be sorely missed. I've been reading the reviews and there seems to be a common theme that I experienced as well: being given misinformation on the phone. I was calling around to find a place to have my dog's nails clipped, saying he might need sedation and was that available. I was told that sure, they could clip nails under sedation. When I got there I was told that they have stopped clipping mail or grooming under sedation. They told me they would examine my dog and try to clip his nails without sedation, and if they were unable to provide the service I would be given pills to give to him before his next appt, when I could take him wherever I wanted for the mail clipping. Frustrating. I've been trying to get his claws clipped for a long time! He will NOT allow it. He is also very resistant to sedation. Very possible the pills they gave me wouldn't work. Good ending though. The vet muzzled him and clipped his nails. I wasn't allowed back with him (???) but he wasn't acting traumatized. The bill was less than I was told on the phone. I don't know if I will be back. I like the location. I wanted help with his anxiety and was given list of dog trainers. I've already paid for that, they weren't listening, or figured they knew better than I did. Front desk is at a disconnect with providers. They were surprised I couldn't have him sedated . I took my 2 year old dog in the see the Veterinarian at Alta Vista Veterinary Hospital. I had 4 concerns: his weight, his breathing & reverse sneezing, his very loud snoring and his back legs because he walked bow legged. When the assistant came into the room she weighed him I noticed she was holding him, she said he weighed 14 lbs. I had weighed him at home prior to the visit, he weighed 9lbs 2ozs, he's a Chihuahua. When the Vet came in, I explained the reason for the visit as described above. I also told him the weight the assistant wrote on the chart was incorrect, I told him it should be in the 9lbs. 2oz. range. He asked if I wanted it taken again. I said yes. 9lbs. 2ozs. His only comment was that my scale at home must be better than theirs. He examined my dog and suggested a blood panel. I agreed and it was fine. When completed the assistant brought him back stating the doctor would call me back in about a week. A week later the assistant called stating everything was good. She said his liver test was a little high. She said to return in 3 months for another blood panel, I asked what about his weight and a weight plan. She said to look on the back of the good I give him and follow the directions. What about the snoring and "bow legs". She said the doctor didn't say anything about that, that I could ask him at the visit. That's how the call ended. Oh, the cost for all this. $430.00! Today I took him to a BBB A+ rated Banfield Pet Hospital. Night snd day. Gray was amazing. Thorough exam. She came back and addressed each of my concerns. Put him on Hill's Metabolic dog food, she discussed other fresh vegetables and fruits he could have instead of dog treats. She agreed his bow legs were most likely the result of his knees being more to the outside of the legs as opposed to in the center. She said she could refer me to an orthopedic es if I liked, his reverse sneezing and heavy snoring were probably the result of allergies and a short snout for a Chihuahua. She suggested allergy medication, it could also be the result of his weight. Oh, the total cost of this visit? $60.53! I'll be writing a nice review for Banfield and Dr. Gray. read more

Alta Vista is where I took both my Basset Hound and my Black Lab for the past 10 yrs. Its also where I took them to the Rainbow Bridge. The Staff there has always been great, the hrs are great. However, I recently tried to take my Cattle Dog for a simple pedicure. Please take note that Alta Vista is trying to comply w/Covid-19 and their waiting room. 1.- pull into parking lot, doors locked 2.- text the staff that you have arrived 3.- wait in car 10-30 minutes for someone to come to your car 4.- they take your pet (tech) and you remain in car 5.- I assume they bring an I-Phone w/credit card reader to pay. You are forbidden to go inside, be with your pet, be supportive of your pet. You sit in your car in the heat and wait. I ended up going to another Animal Hospital 1 mile from me in the PV Mall area that came highly recommended by friends and neighbors. I got in the following week and here's how it worked- 1- I emailed in new patient form 2- showed up for my appt wearing a mask, with my Dog 3- escorted to exam room by tech (also wearing mask) 4- Dr entered room and vaccinated my Dog and petted her (wearing a mask) 5- paid at the reception desk as the staff told me (also wearing a mask),..how cute my Dog is. I felt compelled to write this review after speaking to a close friend who last week also got frustrated w/Alta Vista for the same reasons and left after going there 2 yrs w/his Dog,..(I recommended Alta Vista). I understand that being in compliance w/Covid-19 is critical and the situation as a whole is getting better but still serious. But Alta Vista seriously lost a loyal 10 yr cstmr and a loyal 2 yr cstmr. read more

2 minutes ago NEW I am beyond grateful for the entire staff at Alta Vista. My boyfriend and I were feeling pretty helpless when we found out our sweet girl, Daisy, was diagnosed with pyometra. We had taken her to a vet earlier in the day and our options were to either admit her to an emergency hospital for ICU care (and were told she likely wouldn't survive the night) or to humanely euthanize. We left there feeling devastated and ultimately were going to humanely euthanize at our home. I had two friends who encouraged me to get a second opinion and recommended reaching out to Alta Vista. I called at about 3 in the afternoon (on a Friday) and asked if by chance anyone on their staff would be able to spay her that day since we needed to act quickly with pyometra. I was put on a brief hold and was told to come right down. When we arrived, we were quickly brought into an exam room. The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming and our technician was so sweet with Daisy. Dr. Rind came in and gave us immediate hope that this was going to work. She offered to stay late to help us because she knew timing was of the essence. I cannot thank her or her staff enough for how quickly they were able to get us in and how quickly they acted to get Daisy taken care of. Dr. Rind was a godsend and made us all feel instantly at ease. We will forever be in her and her entire staff's debt. Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

Zero stars. I took my dog in last year when he had a bump on his foot. After they "ran some tests." They came back and told me it was a benign tumor. Long story short - I started going to this vet because it was close to my place, staff seemed friendly. Then covid hits. It goes from a veterinarian hospital to an oil change. Where you just drop your dog off and pick them up. Aside from lying and actually never getting my dogs tumor tested, I left that place because when you go in to a vet. Your dog needs support and I wanted to be there in the waiting room with him. I ended up going to four peaks in Scottsdale- I brought the old paperwork from Alta vista. The new doctor mentioned my dog does have a cancerous tumor on his foot. Actually gathering legal counsel as we speak. Fuck Alta vista. read more

I think we can all agree that most of us dread going to the vet. I feel I've been taken advantage of and overcharged in the past by various vets. Because of some of the reviews that Alta Vista has I was skeptical to take my dog here, but they were able to get me in sooner than any other vet. Not only did they have the soonest appointment, but their staff was super friendly too. To give a little background, our German Shepard Nova starting losing weight out of no where and seemed to be getting weaker as time went on. My wife and I thought we would just give her time and thought maybe she just had valley fever based on her symptoms. While she was getting weak and losing weight, she was still her chipper self and seemed happy. Be that as it may, it was still super stressful financially, especially due to COVID. When I first brought Nova, the customer service was amazing. I have to admit, I was pretty anxious but the staff reassured me and after talking through things with them, I was sure Nova was in good hands. Throughout the day they kept me informed and were completely transparent about what the issues could be. They understood my financial concerns and worked with me to make sure that we take all the proper steps. Long story short, we never did find out what was wrong with Nova and they ended up referring me to a specialist. Again, because of our financial situation we decided it would be best to monitor it. While Nova is not back to her weight before she got sick, she is getting better every day. What I'm loved about my experience is that Alta Vista didn't treat me like just another number. They could have easily left me with a big bill to try and continue running even more tests and doing more diagnostic work, but they didn't. They listened to me without any judgement and gave me the best medical advice based on all the circumstances. I've definitely found my vet for life! read more

I hate to me this guy.... i brought my dog king here for a year (2021) or so, he developed a lump on his paw. I spent $700 bucks - doing all labs. Only to hear it's benign and not an issue. Three months go by, the lump ripped open, won't stop bleeding, my dog has been losing a noticeable amount of weight.. a co worker told me to go to their vet for a second opinion, who immediately said the tumor / lump was cancerous. 9 months later I buried my dog of 14 years.. I'm not saying its their fault for his death. It's a part of life. More so negligence - for probably never submitting my dogs labs and telling me everything was fine. I'm new to the area and learned pretty quick that finding good vet care around here is hard, especially on a budget. My cat has skin problems and allergies, so he gets ear infections often. I called a ton of places, most of which had no availability for a month out or longer which was too long to wait. The few places that did have open availability were outrageously expensive, like $300 to treat an ear infection. Alta Vista is the first place in Phoenix where I've felt like my cat was given proper care at a fair price. Pro Tip: They have same-day drop-off appointments available if you call at 7AM. Way cheaper than an emergency vet and pretty quick if your pet has something that needs care Now rather than A Month From Now. The doctor I spoke with (who's name ai unfortunately can't remember) was thoughtful, attentive, and quick, and she gave me a referral to a dermatologist that will be able to treat my cat's allergies in the long term. If I could give this place a zero star I would. I brought in a rescue dog who is in boarding while waiting to fine his furever home. He suffers from extreme anxiety just driving in a car and also doesn't like walking on clinic like floors that is like vinyl flooring. We had a 1pm appointment and I would have never made had I knew about how terrible they are getting in ppl who have appointments. I had to have him back at 3:30pm before the place closed down to the public for the day. They got him inside at least pretty quickly, but we sat this room for over an hour and a half where he is panting so hard you like he is going to pass out most of the time. Not to mention his terrible cough he has going on that makes him sound even worse!!! I asked the woman in the front what is going on? I have never in my life made an appointment for anything and had to wait over an hour and half to be told there were still two people ahead of me!!! I didn't know what to do because 3pm was approaching and I knew they weren't going to get to him in time for me to get him back. This poor boy has no where to go as I have three dogs of my own and one being 18yrs old I cannot bring a sick dog there to make sure I protect his welfare!!! Anyways, I had to leave to get this VERY sick dog back into a boarding facility where they he couldn't be spreading it to many dogs. Not to mention he has had this cough for over a week now, and the rescue I work with tells me I have to go back to Alta Vista AGAIN. I call them just today, and I would think that they would be apologetic. I was hoping they'd at least try to understand how desperate the situation is with how badly this dog's anxiety and how he could develop pneumonia by the time they tell me he could get in. They said they take walk ins, but from the reviews I am not letting this poor boy sit in there scared out of his mind and having a basic panic attack for 10hrs!!! Otherwise, they could get me in at 10:30am on the 10th when I told them any other day but the 10th. Then they tell me the next available appointment is on the 17th!!! Seriously, this isn't just a wellness check up...this is a dog in a boarding situation that needs treatment immediately!!! They should be ashamed by the way they run this business and need to be shut down for negligence over. I plan on reporting them to some kind of medical board as well after experiencing the crap they pull in here. Actually I think they need to come out for free to the boarding facility and treat all the other dogs that know have kennel cough because it's their fault now 4 other dogs have become sick as well. NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! I WILL BE TELLING MY STORY TO EVERYONE I KNOW TO MAKE SURE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS!!! The funny thing is that with another rescue dog who I am allowed to take dogs to my regular vet in Scottsdale we showed up to our 2:30pm appointment at 2:15pm and was done with drawing blood which took 3 different times because he kept moving, getting a fecal sample, taking his vitals, doing an entire wellness checkup and bringing out medication all before 3pm. I thought for sure we would have been late and I was able to prepare the facility that we might be late days in advance. Due to them being a REAL vet clinic though we made it back at 3:30pm on the dot. This dog wasn't even sick though, which is the terrible thing about what they did to Luca because he is suffering still with no where to take him because I am stuck with going to the worst vet hospital clinic on the planet!!! They could at least accommodate my situation if they really cared about every pet that walks thru their dogs...nope instead the prefer to be the worst clinic to exist. Let me start by saying DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. Our appointment was scheduled at 12:30 today and we pulled into the parking lot and checked in at exactly 12:30. For the next FIFTY minutes we waited and waited, in the heat, with two kitties who become very stressed while in a carrier... in the car. This was the first display of a blatant disrespect for our time. At 1:20 a tech comes out to get the cats and go over the charts and reason for the visit. We were then informed that they had no record of our previous visit or the vaccines administered by them previously... (this is the only vet we have taken them to) their recommendation was to just do the whole set over again.....?!?! After another 3 hours, we get the call that they are ready to be picked up, I should mention that this visit was just for a vaccine and general check up!! What was taking three hours? And how long were our cats sitting and waiting in their kennels to be treated?!?! So we arrive in the parking lot for pick up and call to let the staff know we are there at 4:00 and the person I spoke with said "okay, we'll be right out" it wasn't until 4:50 that we finally got our boys back safe and sound. This was a regular check up that ended up consuming nearly 5 hours of our Saturday. I understand that it's expected to be waiting a bit at the vet but so many things about today were just completely unacceptable. I will never trust this vet to do anything for us ever again as it seems base level expectations such as keeping records of shots and past visits, respect of time and your animals is not something they are willing or able to provide. I wouldn't wish this type of service on anyone and I hope this review helps someone else avoid the stress and disrespect that we all experienced today. read more

I used to be really happy with this vet. I took all my dogs there. However, I wish they were a little more caring. Maybe a follow up when they know you just brought in an extremely sick pet. Maybe have a little more answers than an I don't know, especially when you spend over $500 on testing. read more

I have given two stars because my situations 'Could've been better'. First, I called about euthanasia for one of my TNR rescue cats that was very ill. I ask for the cost over the phone with Alta Vista front desk person and was told $90. When I was there with the cat and signed all the paperwork and they had taken the cat back, I was told $240.00. I said on the phone that I had ask for the cost and was told $90.00. The person at desk was like giving me the break down on what the $240.00 was covering. $90 was for the euthanasia and the rest was for mass cremation and an exam. She said do you want to take the cat back??? I said no! But told her that I would have not come there for this if they would have told me the correct amount over the phone. The Humane Society charges $130 and I had an appointment set up for the following day. But, when I had called Alta Vista and they told me $90 and they could let me come in right away. My second 'could've been better' happened next. I set up appointment for one of my own cats that I knew probably had an infected tooth and she needed a dental cleaning. So, went for appointment. Told one tooth needed to be removed. They did bloodwork and gave her an antibiotic injection to help with the infection. So, I go up front to check out and schedule appointment for tooth removal surgery and dental cleaning. She says they are booked out until October 5th! They are telling me they will call me if there are any cancellations. I cannot let my cat go until October to have an infected tooth removed as that is two months away. So then they tell me to take her to USA Pet Dental in Peoria...that they will send her bloodwork and exam info about which tooth needs to be removed. They need to let people know ahead of time how far they are booked out on their surgeries. AND they are open on Monday's but have NO doctor's there. If they are SO freaking busy and surgeries booked out for two months, don't you think they would have a full staff working on Monday's??? I have gone back to them off and on in the past for other pets. Something wierd has always happened. I keep thinking maybe things have changed and they have not. read more

This clinic issued expired vaccines to our cat. We reached out and they said they'd be "happy just to update the official medical report???" NO- we want a refund and to know our cat is safe! We are filing a complaint with the American Association for Veterinarians as their "manager" Jennifer seems to not respond to emails or calls. BE AWARE OF THIS SHADY CLINIC!!!! read more

I called first thing this morning because my 14 year old cat was in clear distress and pain after being completely fine last night. The front desk worker who answered the phone was very sympathetic and kind, she told me to bring her in right away. I only waited about 20 minutes before being called in to a room and seen by a tech and then vet. Both were excellent with my cat, taking the time to pet her and get to know her. She ended up needing x rays of her abdomen (which also required anesthesia and bloodwork) so I left her with them. The vet called me with an update and diagnosis as soon as she was done with the procedure. About another hour and a half later I was able to come pick her up. $470 for the visit fee, bloodwork, anesthesia, x rays, and medication. Yes, it's a little expensive but they allowed me to have someone call in to pay the bill over the phone. It also sounds like they offer payment plans if needed. So thankful for Alta Vista! read more

Not a place you want to take your pets for major surgery. They are not certified vet surgeons. I almost lost my dog due to the inexperienced vet. Luckily, I transferred my dog to a veterinarian who is a certified vet surgeon. She was able to reverse the damage that Alta Vista created and she saved my dog from death. read more

Leaving two stars because ya'll are deceitful on your website and it's a slap in the face to your loyal pet owners that come here. You did NOT extend your hours, you cut them. Claiming Alta Vista has the same integrity as they used to 10+ years ago, proves the other bad reviews correct. There's a reason why all of us (that have stayed loyal to this vet clinic) have the same complaint. Do better! read more
