Came here with a friend as a recommendation from another friend. I was informed they can get filled fast so expect a bit of a wait. I got there right at 11 am on a Sunday and was able to put my name down before 6 individual parties did the same. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette while my friend order the short rib omelette. As a brunch dessert we shared the spiced sugar beignets. Food came out moderately quick. My omelette had a healthy serving of salmon and was juicy from the cooked fat of the fish. It was complimented with a cream sauce and a few capers to cut the fattiness. The sliced potatoes were okay, I feel like they could have been cooked more to get a bit more color of them but the baguette was great as opposed to regular toast. My friend enjoyed his omelette as it was half way gone before I even got to take a picture. The beignets were very crispy and denser than what I was expecting. The whip cream and strawberry jam were nice sides for the fried batter. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall I had a good experience and would come again if I was in the area. read more

Was looking for a brunch place and this popped up on recommended spots on Yelp. It was a full house on Sunday and there were 3-5 groups waiting ahead of us, however we were told we didn't have to wait too long. It's true maybe about 15-20mins. They offer mainly French/English fusion menu items which a delight to see as there aren't many other French brunch places around Worcester. A little bit fancier than your typical American diner breakfast. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Unfortunately it's only indoor dining, no patios. The service was a bit slow and had to ask for a straw twice with the same waitress. But despite that I'd love to come back for the food! read more

I hate to sound like a broken record but how in the world of worlds have I not reviewed this place ? I lived next to it for YEARS and have had many a sumptuous brunch and breakfast there with friends and family over the years. It's a great special occasion with casual feel place or a special treat for an otherwise everyday breakfast. Not wonderful for large groups but could make up to 8 work if you call them ahead. (We've done it!) gets crazy wild on the weekends for breakfast starting as early as 9 so get here early or expect some wait. Never had bad service here some of the time it's been very lively and very enjoyable when the mimosas start becoming espresso martinis on a Wednesday morning but that's another story for another day - the food .. is really above the usual average breakfast/brunch offerings in Worcester. It's not diner food. But you can get some of those standbys like an astounding turkey club just with the accouterments that make it not average diner fare. The omlettes, frittatas, bennys and all that come on specials can be highly recommended- never ever a complaint and your find the ingredient combinations are well thought out and inventive ! Good seasonal drinks - and desserts/ sweet breakfast items that shouldn't be ignored. The best dish ? Probably the farmers style omelet over a whole entire artichoke and arugula salad - yeah. A friend and I were both wanting to try Altea's. We headed to Altea's on a weekday morning recently and were happy to find a parking spot easily and plenty of open seating in the restaurant. They have some tables out front on the sidewalk and inside they have big windows that open all the way the width of the restaurant. It was a comfortable day so the window panels were all the way open. There were so many delicious sounding items on the menu and we both decided (and on recommendation from our waitress) to try the corn beef hash ($13.99) and I ordered a coffee ($2.75). The coffee was quite strong if that's the way you like it (I tried adding extra milk and sugar), but when our server brought our corn beef hash we were blown away. Our breakfast was served in a cast iron skillet!!! What a beautiful presentation!! Our breakfast was amazing. Definitely one of the top breakfasts I've ever eaten. Altea's is very popular place in Worcester. It's definitely a crowd favorite for it's fusion menu items and trendy atmosphere. The spark notes version of this review is that... Admittedly, I find that some of the menu items are hit or miss, ranging from too salty meats and bland potatoes to beautifully flavored and seasoned soups and sandwiches. Everything comes in a large portions so you definitely get what you pay for, but it can be a gamble if you're not familiar with the menu. Overall, I'd say this place is pretty average for food and stellar for service/atmosphere. It's most certainly worth stopping by, but I (personally) find that Altea's may be overhyped. My family and I still regularly eat here, but we tend to avoid certain menu items after multiple trips of exploring the menu. Scroll down to the bottom for reco Now here's the breakdown... FOOD: the menu speaks volumes, but I'd keep your expectations just on par. Everything looks aesthetically pleasing. So far, we have tried their steak and eggs, chicken and waffle, breakfast poutine, corned beef hash, smoked salmon benedict, house pancake, vegetable harvest omelette, braised short rib sandwich, steak and frites, ale battered fish and chips, and falafel burger (okay so a lot). I'll start with the not so hot items -- breakfast poutine, vegetable harvest omelette, and steak dishes. I'll also start by saying that Altea's potatoes are NOT seasoned. That goes for their fries too. This is why the poutine fell very flat. The concept of the poutine was great, BUT the fact that the potatoes are literally just hand cut potatoes fried in oil left the whole dish falling flat and reliant on the toppings to do most of the heavy lifting, which frankly would've been better done as a hash than a poutine. The veggie omelette was also nothing spectacular as a result of it being just unseasoned veggies with goat cheese and eggs - again, not a bad concept but definitely could've done with some spices (my friend used a whole lot of ketchup, hot sauce, and pepper to add something to it). Then there's the steak dishes which are basically seasoned with salt on salt on salt and comes with A LOT of char, so if you happen to be avoiding a high sodium/char diet then I highly recommend you request to lower the amount of salt used OR just avoid the dish altogether. Now for the GOOD items we've tried -- corned beef hash, braised short rib sandwich, chicken and waffle, smoked salmon benedict, falafel burger, and fish and chips. Among the beef items, the corned beef hash and the braised short rib sandwich were perfectly salted and seasoned. The potatoes in the hash actually soaked up all the fat/juices of the corned beef so they tasted quite flavorful. Of all the things, the chicken and waffle is actually the star of the show for us! The chicken is beautifully fried but still tender and juicy with a soft waffle that's sweet enough, but not overwhelming. That also comes with a walnut maple butter that's heavenly. The falafel burger and smoked salmon eggs benedict are exactly what they are and seasoned well. I don't have a photo of the falafel burger but it's quite a large portion that could take a person with a normal appetite 2 sittings to finish. The smoked salmon benedict had just the right amount of hollandaise sauce that it wasn't drowning in it. Outside of the "chips" (or more unseasoned potatoes), the fish and chips is actually quite good. The batter on the fish is seasoned well and the fish tends to run dry, but I'll take spiced batter over dry fish. The real seller of the fish and chips is actually their house-made tarter sauce, which is fresh and delicious. PRICE: I don't think I've paid over $16 (excluding tax/tip) for a meal at Altea's which makes it very budget friendly - especially for working high school/college students. Everything is well priced, and liked I've mentioned, the portions are pretty big to a point it's arguable you're getting a little more than what you're paying for. SERVICE: I've never had a bad interaction with any of the staff at Altea's. Everyone is quite friendly and willing to help if they can or are able to. OVERALL: I'd say it's worth coming to Altea's if you're on a budget or are in walking distance. The food is decent, but it's just average with menu hits and misses. It is one of those places I believe is overhyped, but if you hit just the right dishes then it's definitely worth while. RECOMMENDS: For breakfast, come for the chicken and waffles, corned beef hash, and any eggs benedict. For lunch, most of the sandwiches on the menu are pretty good and the fish in the fish and chips is great. read more

Found this place while searching for brunch places in Worcester. The outside of the restaurant is very inviting. We arrived just around 950 am and we're able to sit as a table for 3 quickly. I will admit it's a tight seating area and the 90 degree weather made things a little uncomfortable but the food and drink quickly made up for this! I had the guava mimosa and it was so refreshing. For brunch I ordered the waffles that came with a banana foster topping-delightful!! I ordered a side of kielbasa to balance the sweetness and I was not disappointed. The bill was very reasonable. They make food so good that it ruins all of the spots that I love and thought they were the best at what they did!! Eggs Benny made my fav egg spot a less than. I took my 12 year old son here for a "lunch date." We were seated at a table in the front of the restaurant; there are lots of window and tons of light. Unfortunately, it was really loud, even our waitress was having to talk extra loud. I asked to move, and we were seated in the back of the restaurant. Then we could actually talk.. much better! My son had the fish & chips, I had a special, chicken and waffles. We both had enough food left to take home. The servings were large, and the prices reasonable. The waitress was friendly and attentive. This cafe is unique and if champagne brunch is your thing, it would be really fun here! The atmosphere is clean yet casual. I learned that my son doesn't like the french fries at school and he learned that I once had my ear cartilage pierced. Communication with a 12 year old... priceless. At this point i've become a repeat customer at Altea's. The first time I went I had the falafel burger. The second time I had the poutine & most recently I had the popcorn chicken Benedict (pictured). I wholeheartedly enjoyed all of the meals as well as the cocktails. Altea's rendition of the poutine is really something special and is my favorite meal i've had there thus far. This is our go to breakfast spot when friends stay with us in the city now. The staff are very friendly & well trained in the art of service. The restaurant has a really young & lively ambience to it with fun music. The portions & prices are very fair. This establishment is being run well and that's why i'm taking the time to leave a nice review. This was my second time at Altea's Eatery, tried something different and loved it! I was in the mood for a savory sweet combo, so I ordered waffles with bananas foster & my cousin ordered the steak and eggs. The waffles were great but I was so impressed by the steak. Their steak and eggs taste sooo good. It's probably the best I've had in a while, so much flavor and the portion size was perfect. Highly recommend this little brunch spot! The food here is excellent, my personal favorite is the Nutella crepe which comes with strawberries and bananas and whipped cream and their home fries are one of the bests I've ever had (both in the picture). The only issue I've encountered is parking. It is on the street parking so you just kind of have to hope there's an open spot near by. The servers there are always kind and welcoming, and the food usually comes out fairly quickly. I've also been here with some people who think the portion sizes are a little on the smaller side and though I slightly agree, I always leave with a happy stomach. read more

Found it difficult to find a place in Worcester worth stoping in but so happy to have found Altea's on Yelp. With street parking, it's an easy find with its large sign. The decor was nothing spectacular but there was plenty of seating throughout. On a Monday afternoon, it was pretty packed! We were seated quickly in the very back of the restaurant and were greeted quickly by the owner who was our server! Oreola was fantastic! Nothing but great things to say about her. She took the time to explain her favorites on the menu to us. And really went in depth about why. You can see her passion about food! My boyfriend got the corned beef hash. He said it was brilliant and when I dived in for a bite, it was definitely brilliant. A hollandaise sauce with a hint of mustard - SO good. And the corned beef was the most tender I'd ever had. The plate wasn't too greasy either! I got the frittata. Open faced omelette with a bed of fresh greens on top. Also VERY tasty and fresh. It was integrated with bacon and leeks topped with gruyere - and a buttered baguette. So happy with this choice for something not so heavy. We also got drinks. The manmoas and the Bloody Mary. I want to start by saying I would have given 5 stars to our server, Melissa. She was fantastic, but what we experienced today was unacceptable. A friend had recommended this place highly and I've been excited to check it out, met a girlfriend for brunch there this morning. Our server was phenomenal with recommendations and checking in on us. We ordered the poutine which was good. Not amazing, but definitely good. Because we were visiting, we had stayed quite a while and it took a long time to ask for our check. Our server apologized that the system was down (why we hadn't seen her for a while) and they were working on it. We must have waited another 30-40 minutes before getting the check. After giving our cards and waiting again for quite some time, she came back very apologetic and said the system wasn't working and she couldn't run our cards. She asked if we had any cash and said she'd hate to ask us to go to an ATM. Okay, this is where things go south. We've now been waiting about an hour AFTER a long breakfast, and we are now running late. There isn't an ATM right across the street or anything. The location is difficult, and parking is a nightmare. I can't imagine any of the customers asked to go to an ATM would actually come back. I happened to have $40 cash on me, and the bill is $46 and change. I ask if under the circumstances, they could accept the $40. She tells me she doesn't have the power to make that call. Um.... I waited tables forever and providing customer service that makes your customers want to come back is essential. After waiting all this time, you can't write off $6 and change? We wait AGAIN, maybe another 15 minutes and a manager comes over. She tells me she might have to ask me to go to an ATM to get the remainder of the money. Are you kidding me? At this point my patience is gone. Most people would have left by now. I tell her I am appalled, that at this point we should have had our meals comped, and the $40 should be more than enough under the circumstances. She tells me all she could do is comp our drinks ($9), so that the server wouldn't get punished and at least get a little bit of a tip. Seriously?!?! I told her this was insane, that this is not my problem, OR the server's problem. The owner should comp our meals and give the remainder to the server. She became agitated with me and said that wouldn't happen, and that she would need to go get a pen to do the math on the cost of the drinks and give the remainder to the server. Straight up insanity. I was certainly not going to wait EVEN LONGER for her to do the math! How on EARTH do you not offer any consideration to you customers who have now been here close to 1.5/2 hours after they needed to leave?? At the very least, a coupon to encourage us back. Up until the check, I would have come again. Now, after this experience and the way we were treated for THEIR ISSUE, I will never be returning. If the owner reads this and is willing to make this right, I would reconsider. I would love to support a woman run business in the area, but we have to do better here! read more

My only minor complaint - outdoor diners get their coffee in paper cups. Not sure if that's a city ordinance, but please change if not. I used to love, love, love this place. Went for years. But sadly today was my last trip. They have always been ridiculously strict about uncharging for absolutely everything (different type of bread, different type of cheese, egg white vs regular, even changes that make things cheaper for them, etc) but I was willing to tolerate it as the food was good. But it has gotten significantly more expensive and today, when I wanted to use my own tea bag (they only provide lipton-- yuck) they wanted to charge me for the hot water they provided something in me just...broke. It's enough to pay around $20 for eggs, too much to be charged for hot water. I tried to discuss the owner but she totally believes charging for tap water (water!) so I realized it is just not the place for me. read more

Brioche French toasts were ok good. Blueberries were yummy but the brioche bread were just ok. Didn't really soaked up the flavor of the blueberries sauce. Whipped cream is fresh. Beignets were doughy.... Didn't like the strawberries sauce with it. Ok with the whipped cream. Wouldn't get them again as I had better ones before. Smoked salmon brioche Benedict with potatoes slices. 7/10. Banana foster waffles come with big slices of four which equals to one whole waffle. Presentation was on point. Caramelized bananas were yummy. Filling though. Couldn't finish the whole thing in one sitting. 7.5/10 Overall, I do like the decor, love the room with lots of bright light but not the back room though as it was dimmer.
