A colleague of mine had her hair cut months back for a wedding. Her hair is long, curly, and thick, but she returned within a reasonable amount of time and I noticed what nice work they had done. When I needed a last minute haircut the weekend before Christmas, I remembered and asked her where she went. I called and they were able to squeeze me in last minute. The salon is small and features tropical decor. It is very pleasant, and as the previous reviewer mentioned, has a "Steel Magnolias" feel to it. My stylist was friendly, listened well, and gave great suggestions. She clarified things well before hacking away with the scissors. It was definitely the happiest I've been with a cut in awhile. They use some new product lines I am unfamiliar with, but they smelled AMAZING. Overall, I'd say this is a great place to go, especially to make major changes. The price isn't as high as many salons but still high enough that I won't be able to return each time I get a trim; I will probably come back every few visits. read more

Kasey is AMAZING!! Even though I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted when I went to see her (and I was on a very tight budget!), she really helped me out. After a week, when I realized my hair just wasn't "blond enough" - she squeezed me in to apply more bleach and a toner!! She's a professional who is also very nice and competent. I will definitely go back, again & again. As another poster mentioned, don't expect a GLOW or a ROBERT ANDREWS DAY SPA, but you can expect exceptional results. First time coming here, a Yelp coupon initiated it. Sue did a great job! I came in for just a basic trim, but Sue really impressed me with her layering and framing techniques. My hair had been fried from highlighting and dulled by well water. I had also had my bangs botched from a salon in DC. She was able to straighten them up and layer them to frame my face very nicely. She even suggested some at home remedies for dealing with dullness caused from well water. She was very friendly and helpful and I will delicately be going back for more services! read more

So I stopped going to Hudson & Fouquet and decided to try Alter Ego. After the upscale digs and numerous staff, it was kind of nice to settle into a cozy neighborhood salon that doesn't make a sales pitch every time they pick up a product to use on your hair. I have had both Regina and Kasey for haircuts, and they both made me feel like a new me when I walked out the door. The staff here is friendly, unpretentious, but still professional and experienced. I use to go to Bubbles, but now I'm going to Alter Ego. Kasey colors and cuts my hair and I am very picky. Even if she disagrees with me, she does what I ask and she does it well. Everyone at the salon is Super nice!!!! I like this salon so much, my mom goes there now! I pay literally half what I use to pay for the same quality of service, nicer people, and MOST IMPORTANT, there accommodating! Have an emergency or need to change an appointment, YES they will bend over backwards to assist!! Tried this place out after purchasing a Groupon they offered a few months back. Can't beat the service for the price. It's a place for a haircut, not a salon/spa Think Dolly Parton's place in Steel Magnolias; pleasant banter amongst the clients and stylists. I loved Tracy, my stylist.
