The anxiety of looking & consuming great food is hard while traveling. Tonight, the hubs, kiddo & I went to Altitude Chophouse & Brewery that greatly rivaled that of Born in a barn. Our waitress Athena was great. She was warm, attentive & made sure we had everything we needed. The ambience reminded my hubs & I of a steakhouse in CA that we went to while dating. And the food... was excellent! I had the Spicy Tai Salmon Burger that was absolutely delicious w/a side of onion rings. The kiddo had the Crispy's Mac & Cheese w/grilled Chicken & couldn't stop eating it. The hubby had the Prime Rib French Dip & ate the whole thing. The hubs Roy Roger's was a little flat & you couldn't really taste the cherry flavor. However... over all, we had a fabulous experience at Altitude Chophouse & Brewery. I was so happy to see a brewery with tasty sounding food! We were some of the only people here and seated right away. Our waitress Kate was so sweet and gave us so many recommendations on places to see in the area. She's such a sweetheart! We ended up getting a wedge salad, burger, and pork belly Mac and cheese. I stopped in here last weekend for lunch making my way through downtown Laramie. I'm glad that I did, first and foremost the service was excellent and thank you Anna for being so kind and helpful. The Irish red beer that I had went very well with the fish n chips. The fries were spot on and the cod had the right amount of crunchy batter on them. I'm a sucker when it comes to eating fish n chips, it is usually my go to but I saw that others were ordering burgers and sandwiches and they looked amazing as well. The next time that I'm in town I'll definitely have to try one of those mouthwatering burgers. For anyone who is passing through or staying in Laramie, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. We dined around 7pm Tuesday night. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and served by a very friendly and attentive waitress. I wish I could remember her name. I ordered the prime rib French dip and the beer cheese soup. Omg!! Both of the dishes were off the charts delicious. I've never heard of beer cheese soup I'm not a beer drinker at all, but I had to try it and I am in awe of it. It had a distinct beer flavor but for some unexplainable reason it was super yummy. When the prime rib French dip arrived I was over joyed to see it had very little fat and it was thinly sliced Yes I'm the person who picks out all the fatty edges off of meat. The bread !! Oh my gosh , it was light n soft:fluffy inside with a crunchy crust It had to have been baked the same day. This was heaven in a sandwich !! My son had the sirloin steak and enjoyed every ounce of it. I took half my sandwich home and our kind waitress packaged fresh horseradish and auju sauce in mini to-go cups. She was very thoughtful. I didn't even have to ask. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and when im visiting Laramie this will be my go -to place. Highly recommend. read more

Alright... I've been hot and cold lately on Altitude and the best parts of my last meal here were our server and the beer. I do like most of the beer here all the time. Great selection and variety. It feels a little upscale here so doesn't always feel as comfy for a casual lunch with kids. I got a chicken ceasar salad and it was okay, nothing special. We loved the cheese curds and the kids meal options were good. We had a fantastic server, Miko/Mico. So helpful with the kids, was patient and checked in often. Love that. I was driving my son from Texas to Idaho for an internship and we had the good fortune to spend the night in Laramie, WY and visit the Altitude Chophouse & Brewery. As indicated by the name, this place had a delightful combination of steak and beer - both were excellent. The interior was cozy eclectic and large enough that they were able to seat us right away with no reservation. I started with their Tumble Wheat beer - a refreshing cloudy wheat beer that quickly washed the long drive away. I followed with their Caesar Salad which had a very generous portion of shaved asiago - I had to fend off my son. Then the steak! A medium rare, 8 oz sirloin steak with roasted mushrooms paired with an Altitude Altbier which rocked my world. The steak was well executed and very flavorful - especially with the mushrooms. The Altbier was the perfect companion - unfortunately, after that, I could not try any others. I would be remiss to not mention their excellent staff - they took great care of us, answered questions and made suggestions (excellent ones). Any time they saw us looking like we might want their attention, they came by. I will be quite happy when I am able to return - if you are close to Laramie, you should treat yourself right and spend an evening at the Altitude Chophouse & Brewery. read more

Working in Laramie Wyoming for the week. I had a ribeye steak green salad and sweet potato fries. There was nothing about this small thin ribeye and fries that was over $50 dollars. Just got out of dinner here, I'm confused at to how this place has 3.8 stars. Just a fair warning, I don't drink. The drink menu here is 6 pages long compared to the 3 page food menu. Maybe the draw here is the drinks, I wouldn't know. We started off with the pepper jack cheese curds, which were actually pretty tasty, but it's hard to mess up cheese curds so not too many kudos there. Our entrees were extremely disappointing. The burger we got was dry, and looked like it had been nuked in a microwave. Frankly, Freddys burgers look more appetizing than the one we received. The sweet potato fries looked freshly unfrozen and sad. I got the crispy Mac and cheese with the brisket option. Brisket was fatty and dry, and the Mac and cheese was such a small portion, the 9 pieces of brisket they gave me made my plate look small. For Mac and cheese, it was alright. I've made better with $12 at home, but the brisket was extremely disappointing for the markup they charged. I almost forgot to mention, there was only about 12-13 people here, with 1/4 of those being individuals sitting at the bar. It took us close to 40 minutes to get our food! Absolute insanity since there was almost nobody here. Better yet, the food arrived lukewarm! Service was fine. Ambience was nice, the actual building itself was nice to sit in, but the food was so sad and overpriced, I'll probably never set foot in here again. I can get better Mac and cheese in the Walmart fresh food section and a better burger at Freddy's 10 minutes down the road. read more

The waitress was polite. The cilantro margarita tasted like sour mix. No hints of cilantro. The mussels appetizer had a good base but didn't come with a seafood fork. Only a spoon. They forgot to give our entire table silverware. There was some sort of hard shell (not a mussel) in my broth. One of the mussels was closed. Surprised I didn't get sick. Last night my bosses were in town and tasked me with finding a great steak. After a little research on Yelp! I narrowed that down to Altitude Chophouse. I made a reservation and I would highly suggest doing the same. This place gets really busy and for a reason. Inside is a great vibe of modern and Wyoming...super clean everywhere you look. Walked in and our table was already set up with ice water and ready to go. For food we started off with the pork nachos. These were absolutely delicious! Perfect spice level and they were just outstanding. Would come back just for these and a couple of beers. We all ordered the center cut rib eye and each of our steaks were perfectly cooked. Plus a rib eye of this quality for $40 is such a great deal. Seasoned very well and enjoyed every bite. A 5 out of 5 for everything and I would highly recommend anyone looking for the best steaks in Laramie. Make the time and don't waster your time because this is the place!! read more

If you're considering dining at Altitude, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. From start to finish, our evening was a disaster. Upon being seated, we were never offered a drink menu and only realized there was more than beer and wine after seeing other diners with cocktails. My husband and I ordered soups to accompany our entrees, which we specified should arrive with the main course. Instead, we sat for 30 minutes with nothing, until the soups finally arrived alone, and lukewarm at best. The dumpling soup I ordered was downright inedible; one bite was more than enough. It was then clearly pushed aside, untouched, and yet Athena F, our server, didn't bother to ask what was wrong or offer a replacement. She simply cleared it away, uninterested and unapologetic. Then we waited another 30 minutes for our entrees. During this time, Athena was completely MIA; no check-in, no water refills, no acknowledgment of our existence. When our food finally arrived, we immediately asked for salt and pepper. That request was ignored for the remainder of the meal. We ultimately had to scavenge salt and pepper shakers off an uncleared table nearby just to season our food. As for the food: atrocious. My chicken was so overcooked it bordered on inedible, and the succotash was some unholy concoction I wouldn't serve to a pet. The only mildly acceptable thing on my plate were the mashed potatoes. My husband's French dip was passable, but after waiting nearly two hours, even cardboard might have tasted acceptable to him. Athena didn't return for another 45 minutes after dropping our plates. Our waters remained empty, our needs unmet, and our patience entirely gone. When she finally did reappear, she didn't acknowledge the untouched chicken or the terrible soup, didn't offer any refills, and simply cleared the plates. The only thing she was efficient about? Dropping off the bill--with the full charge for the revolting, uneaten soup still on it. For an inedible meal, nonexistent service, and a side of frustration, we paid nearly $70. Altitude is, without exaggeration, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I left hungry, irritated, and completely bewildered by how this place operates. Save your money, your time, and your appetite. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. read more

Poor service and lack of leadership, FOOD POISONING! Our visit to Altitude House in Laramie was disappointing. One young waitress was hustling and overwhelmed, while other staff stood around -- some even on their phones (we have pictures) -- offering no help. The manager wasn't on the phone but stood chatting with employees instead of stepping in during a busy time. One of our meals was forgotten entirely, and even after the rest of us had finished eating, it still hadn't been brought out. While they did apologize, the lack of organization, teamwork, and leadership was evident. We expected much better. I had to come back for an update. My adult daughter didn't eat her chicken pasta. When we got home, she said, "It didn't taste right." After this, she was sick with food poisoning for two days!!! Stay away from this place! read more

Our server, Caitlyn, is the type of waitress who seems like she might even live in the restaurant, with perfect knowledge of the menu and incredible customer service skills. Our food was great, too. I enjoyed the Chicken Piccata (seasoned wonderfully and fork-tender) and received good feedback from the rest of the family on the Ribeye, Lobster Mac and Cheese, and Pasta Bites. Finally, the seasonal desserts were phenomenal. We shared a serving of Chocolate Peppermint Mousse and a slice of Gingerbread Cake, and although both were amazing, the cake is our family favorite. Surprisingly upscale but affordable steakhouse in historic downtown Laramie. The building and decor was terrific - exactly what you'd expect. My only quibble regards visual appearance of food. I had the lamb and green chili meatloaf with mashed potatoes. It was delicious. However, the plating was very brown - garnish in a different color would have gone a long way to making this dish look as appetizing as it tasted. I ordered an altitude burger (mushroom and swiss). It was difficult to even tell it had mushrooms on it. There was absolutely no flavor at all. It was very dry especially for a burger that was cooked medium at best. I ordered it well done and it was cooked medium. The wife ordered the pork chop and had the same experience, no flavor.
