I see quite a few one-star reviews here about Altitude Endodontics' shady billing practices, and I have to add my voice based on my own awful experience. I came in for a second opinion only, no treatment done, after an 8-hour failed root canal elsewhere. (Yes, you read that right.) My original dentist (Jack Nguyen, formerly of Awesome Dental) had agreed to pay for the consult, but then he vanished. Instead of resolving this professionally, Dr. Ricketts' office came after me with an outrageously overpriced bill and proceeded to hound me for five years. Even after payment was made (by me, not by Nguyen), they continued to threaten collections until today, when they finally admitted the bill was paid. Incompetent, unethical, and utterly unprofessional. If you value transparency, fair billing, and basic respect, steer clear of this clinic. EDIT: Your response does not reflect my experience. To be clear: I never received any treatment from your office, only a consultation that another dentist had agreed to cover. When he reneged, your office pursued me relentlessly for five years over that bill, even after payment was made. Most recently, you threatened to rescind a fee reduction if I didn't remove this review. That isn't a "communication breakdown." That's harassment and unethical billing. read more

The dentist conducted multiple redundant tests (I.e. ct scan, X-rays, photographs) even though my regular dentist had sent X-rays that were taken two weeks prior to my appointment. He prefaced his conclusions by saying "this is what I would tell my mother/sister/wife"; as though he was unbelievable and needed to convince me. Then his office split the bill into three separate billing, submitting over three months. I asked his office why they split the bill and was told that they were trying to get the insurance company to accept everything. Of course my tooth was fine, which made all the testing appear unnecessary. read more

Echoing all other 1 star reviews, their billing practice is unclear and may be in violation of the no surprises billing act. I came in for an evaluation only. I paid $365 at check in, which was unexpected but they told me that is all I need to pay. Six months later, they billed me for another $271.30 without any explanation. I had no idea what this was for. I had to ask for a billing statement which I haven't seen before with all the charges. If I had known that I need to pay $636 for an evaluation, I wouldn't have proceeded in the first place. So definitely be ware of their billings and don't trust what they said verbally. Based on this experience, I will never come here for any treatment unless you have a lot of money to spend. read more

Over charges. I asked repeatedly for the cost of a visit to check a tooth. They did a full head x -ray TWICE, said they would not charge but then added $50.00. The only dentist office I know that charges you everything and THEN submitts the cost to insurance. The "exam consultation " was 120.00 they tried to charge me pictures of teeth I did not need photographed. Do not go. read more

I dislike dentists of any type immensely. My primary dentist referred me to Dr. Ricketts for a root canal. I was terrified. He and his staff were amazing and took such good care of me that I felt comforted. It was not totally pain free but close. After the surgery Dr. Ricketts called to check on me. I appreciated that. Since then I needed another root canal and I experienced the same level of care. My check up today was also amazing. The staff made me feel safe during Covid restrictions and Dr. Ricketts came in to say hello. He also called to check on me afterwards and I would definitely recommend him and his staff. read more

Dr. Ricketts and his team are simply amazing!! I had an emergency root canal situation and thankfully was able to schedule a next day appt. With Dr. Ricketts. Root canals aren't my idea of a good time and I typically suffer from major dental anxiety. The root canal was done in 2 sessions. My first session was rather traumatic for me because the nose piece wasn't administering nitrous effectively-(My nose, not their nosepiece.) The staff tried everything they could and gave me the option to stop and rerun at a later date, which I declined because I just wanted it done. I probably should have listened to the Dr. but I did not. Danielle, the office manager called me personally afterwards to make sure I was ok, which was very nice. We also had a long conversation just prior to my second session. Danielle reassured me and made me feel so much better about going back for a service I'm terrified of. The second session was amazing. Thankfully, I was able to opt for sedation because of the issue with the nitrous. *** Dr. Ricketts and his team are absolutely amazing. Believe me- dealing with someone with major dental anxiety like I have is not fun for anyone. They made me feel so comfortable and cared for. They were also very kind and helpful to my husband when he picked me up afterwards and gave him a $25 gas card. What a kind gesture. They all went above and beyond to make sure I had the best experience possible, and they totally succeeded and then some. I had a recent Root Canal procedure completed at this practice. My tooth was in horrible shape. I have type 2 diabetes and the tooth was infected and impacted. I was referred to Dr Ricketts by my Dentist at Baller Dental. The initial visit was a discovery session, X Rays and to see the impact of the infected upper rear molar. The Doctor explained what needed to be done, cost and ability to save the tooth. I did anti biotic therapy for 10 days, returned for treatment and he was able to save my tooth, do a Root canal. His numbing method is revolutionary, as they use a new technology computer based root to numb your area. I never one time felt any of the numbing or any needle pain. Wow just wow. He was able to clean all four canals. Apply the infection control, seal it. Send me off on my way. Took some Tylenol for minor irritation. Next morning zero pain. I am on my way to recovery. Today i visited Altitude, such a pleasant experience. The office clean, organized, and welcoming. The staff is so efficient and amazing, this was my first five minutes there. Nothing going on except me the patient. When seated in the chair, it was comfortable. I was the focus of the visit and when the Dr. came in was very kind and warm as to put me at ease. I was referred to Altitude Endodontics for a problem tooth. It was determined that I needed a root canal. Nobody wants to hear that... this was my first experience with a root canal and I did not know what to expect. My tooth turned out to be more of a problem than anticipated. Dr. Benjamin Ricketts was phenomenal!!! He was friendly, there was so much attention to detail! He did an amazing job with my root canal, he made me comfortable, he explained everything he would be doing and then also told me step by step as he was doing things to help me with my comfort level. At the end of the day I was very pleased from start to finish with the whole process. The entire staff was friendly. The office was immaculately clean. The decor was modern. Total professionalism, state of the art equipment, and dare I say it???? Comfort while receiving a root canal. I did not even use a Tylenol. My last experience, different dentist, was a nightmare. This office was just amazing. My last root canal required pain meds and a return trip because side of my head was terrible and toothache kept hurting regardless of what I took. Left work early twice. Dr refuses to Accommodate for FMLA paperwork that results from work Absences. Because of the way he dictated to fill out the paperwork even after telling him he was Wrong, cost me my Fmla case to be denied at work and afterwards refused to work it out with me for the 3 days I missed from work from the sever tooth pain I had. He had no interested in helping out after he was paid. read more

Many, many years ago, I had some work done by Dr Ricketts. I paid my portion of the bill at the time of service and went on my way. Fast forward, years later (recently) I hear from them stating I still owe them for that appointment, years prior. They stated, someone from USPS was hoarding mail and my check was part of that hoarding. I since moved and they sent notices to my previous address. I never received them. They proceeded to send the $180.00 to collection. I was sent to Dr. Ricketts, right when COVID hit because my dentist closed the day before and I needed to be seen. I was hit with this $180.00 charge on my account, from years prior, and no fault of my own. With some digging, I found out I had a huge decrease on my credit score in April. I was unable to figure out what happened. The decrease was due to Dr.Ricketts sending my account to collections. I was in complete shock. I'm a recently divorced mom with four kids, just lost my job as a result of COVID and now my credit is significantly affected from an issue that happened years and years ago that wasn't my fault in anyway shape or form. So, for $180.00, Dr. Ricketts, who makes more money in a year than I will make in a lifetime, sent me to collections for something that was no fault of my own and significantly reduced my credit score. Wanted to share our experience with Altitude and Dr . Ben Ricketts. He gave my son Myles his life back. He performed root canals and gum surgery for my son Myles. He saved his 4 front teeth. My son was very afraid to return to a dentist and Dr. Ricketts changed that. Dr Ricketts is an outstanding surgeon, and consummate professional.
