The day of the move, the crew showed up four hours later than scheduled with a surprise additional person that I was then asked to pay extra per hour for. Since we were so behind schedule, I figured that would be okay to get us through the move faster. However, at final billing I was charged for a full additional hour and told I had to pay by check. When I realized the mistake, i contacted John same day and asked for a refund for the hour to no response. I've followed up 2 times now and he still has not responded almost two months later. The crew themselves did a good job. They moved everything with care and were quick enough. However, I should note they brought along a dog and were smoking both behind my house and at unload at the storage unit while still on the clock. This honestly was all forgivable to me, but given the other issues I cannot recommend this company. read more

I used Alto Moving for my local move from West Seattle to Burien, WA. When I made the the appointment, I asked about a walk through before the move as I also needed packing services. The co-owner, Selena, stated that it was not necessary as she could give an estimate based on the number of rooms and amount of furniture/appliances. The movers showed up not prepared for the job. They came with a small truck, not enough boxes or packaging material. The owner, John, had to go to Penske to get a bigger truck and was gone for over an hour. The movers were limited in what they could pack as they did not have enough boxes. They waited around until the owner returned. The movers used my personal packing material such as pens/markers, tape and bubble wrap. It's a good thing that I had rented a van to move my personal valuables as we ended up using the van for my other items that couldn't fit in the truck. When I was told that the movers were ready to go to the new place, I found that they had not loaded my outdoor grill, mind you that I had earlier loaded the propane container in my rental van. When I returned that evening, I found that the movers missed packing and loading a closet and I had to load those items into my small car as I had already returned the van. I had paid a flat fee for a dump run and was told that items I wanted to discard would be loaded onto the truck. That was not done and had to call them the next day to come back and do the dump run. One of the movers had brought a pitbull puppy on the day of the move and the next day for the dump run. The day of the move he attended to the puppy during the time I was paying him for the move. This move took over 10+ hours and these movers had no clue on how to pack, despite offering that as a service. The movers told me that they were not informed by the owners that this was also a packing job. Due to that, the move took much longer than estimated and I was charged for the additional hours and charged a sur-charge because the owner, John, had to help. I was quoted $1,270 and was charged and paid $2,395 as he brought an additional mover and I paid for the time the movers waited for more boxes, smoke and lunch breaks. The day after the move, I informed John that I had opened several boxes and a few items were broken as they were not bubble wrapped. I also informed him that my neighbor found my pocket knife on the road where the moving truck had been parked. That pocket knife was in a utensil drawer in the kitchen I moved out from and should have been packed. Why was it found out on the road? A couple of days later, I informed John that I was missing a noise cancelling headphone that I was going to use while working at home. This headset was a gift from work and never used, still in its original box. John asked that I go through all the boxes and let him know if I find it or if anything else was missing. I unpacked and never found the headphone, but instead found that I was missing other miscellaneous items. I decided it wasn't worth pursuing and let it go. However, more recently I went to look for my air fryer that was stored in its original box and it was also missing. I called and texted John as he requested to inform him that I was now missing another item. Selena returned my call and she accused me of lying and accused my boyfriend and child of taking the items that were missing. My child is in college in another state and has never been to my old or new house. Her only concern was to describe a female who accompanied the mover to watch the puppy the day of the dump run. Apparently, that mover is married or is in a relationship with Selena's best friend and she was adamant that I describe the female and the vehicle they drove. When I couldn't, her tone changed and she became highly agitated and intimidating. The owners tried to turn the situation around and accuse me, the customer, and took no responsibility for the missing items or provided the right level of customer service to help ease my concerns. All of this after I had tipped all 5 movers, including the owner, $50 each for my disastrous move experience using Alto Moving. After the conversation with Selena, I felt so intimidated that I contacted the Burien police to have the incident documented as the owners knew my address and I was afraid for my safety. I used Alto Moving as they were a local small business and wanted to help give back to the community. In retrospect, I should have been more careful and looked for a more reputable moving company that is BBB accredited. read more

I absolutely hate moving! So what do I do? I go to Yelp for reviews for a decent moving service in West Seattle. Came across Alto moving. Spoke with someone on the phone, gave them all the details of the move and got an estimate for it. Was confirmed with an appointment via email. What happened on moving day I wouldn't want anyone else to go through. They 100% no showed! Ignored all my calls to confirm they were on the way and never did they ever reach out to apologize or explain the reasoning for not showing up on moving day or even answering my calls to find out where they were or what happened! Thankfully my other roomate had a Uhaul and was nice enough to let us use it to do the move ourselves (I was less than pleased as I absolutely hate moving and had the day off work to do the move). This is an incredibly unprofessional business and highly recommend no one uses them unless you are ok with waiting for them to show for an hour only to have to do the move yourself when they don't show up. Thankfully I had not paid or this would be brought to court to get my money back. Think twice or three times before using Alto moving, they seemed legit until they weren't and still to this day I have no idea why they didn't ever show up or reach out via email or phone to apologize or explain what occurred. Poor quality and value. Misleading services. Not a real company in my opinion, but hired and probably underpaid contractors. Therefore, not trained in anyway. I was promised in my email and text communication that this was a very organized and knowledgeable moving company. The facts - my apartment was not packed as was promised and offered. They brought some saran wrap for one dresser and the owner John, brought a pack of small boxes about halfway into my move. I was told that they knew how to pack and move a large record collection, they were moved one stack at a time, unboxed and left in piles. I was told they have an organized way of moving clothes and items, they were all carried willy nilly and stuffed into one room in an unorganized and chaotic way. Can you imagine the time it takes to carry one item at a time? Not in boxes? My very large and heavy VINTAGE bed was damaged and put back together improperly, after I gave specific instructions. It's never going to be the same. (I had to hire a handy person to help me with it after my move) Artwork was carried without being wrapped in moving blankets and damaged. These things are irreplaceable.) The movers were late. (While they were nice guys and I don't think this is the fault of the day laborer. This misrepresentation of skill is on the owner, also the owner likes to appeal to women by saying they are picking up children at daycare. Manipulative and too personal.) I also did a lot of the moving myself as well, I was HELPING them to stay on time and on track. I tried to be reasonable and asked for my extra labor costs to be covered, but after many attempts to rectify this I was forced to dispute the bank charges, waste more time writing this review and my next step is small claims court. I understand small business, I have a small business. When a product or service I've offered isn't what the client expected or if it's damaged or wrong in anyway, I make it right. Unfortunately this is not how Alto Moving operates. They are not the best for big jobs with valuable items, I would do your due diligence and interview more movers in the area. I had a complaint that the driver said would be resolved in my favor, admitting that the situation was entirely the company's fault and that I should be held harmless. However, when I never heard back from Alto, I contacted the owner, John, who reversed course. Not only did he refuse to honor his driver's promises, but he twisted the situation into an outright lie. Suddenly I was out $500. There are so many moving companies out there. I urge you to choose one that operates with a degree of integrity. If you have any problem with Alto (cost, timing, damages, etc...), do no expect that your compaints with be taken seriously, much less resolved in a fair or equitable manner. read more

Hired Alto Moving to move a refrigerator to my rental house in Seattle. John, the owner, was prompt about calling me back and setting a date. Then I had to call him five days before the previously scheduled date and ask if we can move up the date to the next day. He was able to fit me in at the last minute which I really appreciated. He arrived on time with Elijah and these guys really hustled; always nice when you're paying them hourly. When we arrived at the rental house, the previous renter, had left a bunch of junk which John offered to take to the dump for an additional fee. Saved me some time from calling a junk hauling company. Overall, I would hire them again in a minute! read more

He was upfront about the cost which I appreciated because I have read so many horror reviews about moving companies charging you way over what they quote. I realized I needed help moving some things at the last minute. About 3 days until my scheduled move out. I looked up movers on Facebook and John from Alto was one of the first to respond. I am so glad he did because I didn't know what I was going to do given the complications of the items I needed moved from a second story apartment to the ground level. We talked on the phone and he was very polite. He told me his background which assured me he is genuine and reliable. We discussed pricing and I thought his rates were very reasonable. I had more furniture than the movers expected and the movers handled all of it fairly quickly. They carefully wrapped all of my pictures (plate glass) in blankets and the pictures made it through without a scratch. The final moving bill was reasonable. I am so grateful to Alto Moving for helping us through our move. John was quick to respond to emails and was super accommodating. He graciously rescheduled our move - twice! - due to shifting closing dates. He and Peter are very skilled, nice, fun to talk to, and did the job extremely well. Unlike every other move I've done Alto Moving did our move without any damage to either location or our belongings. Amazing! I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because their estimate was waaaaaaay off and we paid much more than we expected.
