    We were in town vacationing and we stopped to get some souvenirs. During New Years I had a tumble and hurt my knee, so I wasn't able to go up the stairs. I explained that to the young man who was at the cashier and he didn't seem to care. When I explicitly the store is not wheelchair accessible he made it seem as though it's whatever, not important to him at all! What he should have said was that even though he doesn't manage the ADA compliance at the store he is willing to convey my sentiments to the manager. This young man did not seem to care one bit, as seen in the video. I found his behavior to be extremely ableist. Is this what Alvin's stands for? If so that's really sad.

    Security tag not removed after purchase (they stuff it inside of the pouch)

    Destin, FL location - be sure to have them remove the hidden security tag from your purchased items. We didn't notice this until after we were home 5 states away. No response from the corporate manager.

    Just your average cheap beach souvenir store. Super overpriced items with bad quality. We have been here several times in need of beach chairs. The only decent priced ones were made super cheap and anything nicer was well over $30. It seems as if every product in the store was imported from China. There is an Alvins Island almost every mile down 98. You should only come here if you are really in need of something for the beach, but if you are looking for something different than any generic beach store this is not the place.

    Huge selection of items. Clean store. Organized. There are sales throughout as well if you take a look. I got a sweater and a magnet :)

    Good but some things are a little pricey good customer service and a wide selection of products like hoodies to souvenirs a good stop.

    These people tried to outright scam us. They charged incorrectly for each small item and were pocketing the money. Buyer beware.

    The employees in this store so rude. Can't even talk to them or even ask a question. Only one cashier and the line was around the building.

I came in excited to look around and potentially make a purchase, but the customer service completely ruined the visit. I asked what I believed was a very normal and reasonable question about one of the products, and instead of receiving a helpful answer, the employee I spoke with immediately seemed irritated and annoyed that I had even asked. Her tone was rude and dismissive from the start, and she made me feel like I was inconveniencing her simply by trying to get information about something the store sells. As a customer, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask questions before making a purchase, especially in a specialty shop where people may not know every detail about the products. Rather than helping me understand what I was looking at, she responded with visible frustration and an attitude that made me feel unwelcome. What bothered me most was how unnecessary the interaction felt. I was polite throughout the conversation and wasn't demanding or difficult in any way. I simply wanted assistance, which is one of the basic expectations when visiting a retail store. Instead, I felt like I was being talked down to and treated as though my question was stupid or not worth answering. Customer service can make or break a business, and unfortunately this experience left a very negative impression. A surf shop should be a welcoming place where people of all experience levels feel comfortable asking questions and learning more about the sport and equipment. Instead, I left feeling frustrated, embarrassed, and unlikely to return. I hope management takes customer interactions seriously and reminds employees that a little patience and respect go a long way. One rude interaction can easily drive away customers, and based on my experience, there is definitely room for improvement in how customers are treated here. I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt it was important to share. i think her name was kaylee or something and she needs to learn something.

I found the paddleboard rental offer online before I started on vacation, and I booked the rental online prior to my trip. I specifically booked my rental for two hours, starting at 9 am, thinking I would have enough time to learn, get my full two hours of paddleboarding done, and make a happy memory. Unfortunately, the shop didn't open until 9 a.m. and although I showed up at 8:45 a.m. thinking that I would be a bit early so I could learn a little bit before the start of the rental term, no one was on site until the owner of the shop pulled up after 9 am. She apologized, letting me know she couldn't find her keys and was running late because of that. Then, after I voiced my discontent with the tardiness, noting that I had booked a snorkeling trip to start exactly two hours later, she began to discuss how the lessons and rental are done by someone else and were out of her hands. She further described to me an argument that she and the person running the rental program had the night before, leading to the current tardiness of the instructor/rental coordinator. The rental coordinator finally showed up at about 9:10 a.m., making no apology or greeting me at all, but instead, heading straight back to the office. He then came out at about 9:15 a.m., and finally apologized for starting late, after which he grabbed some equipment, loaded it into a wagon, and directed me to follow him out the door and across the street to the dock, where the paddleboards were stored. From there, the paddleboarding experience wasn't bad. He went out onto the water with me and showed me the basics, and then left me to my own enjoyment. I was out on the water for about 45 minutes, before finally tiring in my legs due to the constant ebb and flow of the water. Overall, the experience wasn't a good one, and with the availability of many SUP rental locations throughout Destin, there's no reason to repeat this experience for anyone.

    My friend and I had such an awesome experience with GUSU and Brett. We had never gone paddle…read moreboarding before this, so we are super beginners. The price was extremely reasonable compared to other rental places. We called and set up a meeting time and location with Brett. He was sooooo courteous to call us close to our meeting time to let us know that the conditions aren't good, especially for beginners and he's willing to reschedule with us. It was apparent that he cared about our safety and level of enjoyment more than profit. We were able to reschedule later in the day when the wind and waves died down. He gave us a quick lesson and we were off into the Norregio bay ! The wind ended up picking up so we weren't able to go down the canal but we had an awesome time and Brett made the experience memorable and fun! We'll definitely be using GUSU's again if we're back in Destin. Hopefully the weather is better and we can explore more places !
