I saw this place on IG and decided to stop by on the way home. There was no line, I arrived around 3 pm on a Monday. Their menu is simple, it says "bento," but it's really just a plate lunch. I opted for the 2 choice, pork guisantes and chicken adobo. The worker offered my the option to substitute pancit for an extra charge. I also ordered a pack of vegetable lumpia, which he said has pork, but I cannot taste it. I used to come here often and the lumpia are genuinely delicious -- it's one of my daughter's favorite treats, which makes this extra disappointing. Lately, every time I drive by during their posted hours they're closed, even though online it still shows they're open. I totally understand that things change, but I really wish they would update their hours so customers don't make unnecessary trips. My family and I love the Pearl Kai store and this review is not for them! This is for the Waikele store... I grew up getting the lumpia from the cart outside of Kmart in Kapolei! We were so excited to learn Alyssandra's finally opened a storefront from their kiosk in Waikele. Now the incident... On July 3rd we went to order a bunch of lumpia. We walked in and there were two customers in front of us who already ordered and no one behind us. We got 5 orders of pork and vegetable, and 6 orders of banana lumpia. There were two of us who ordered while the rest of the party were outside (3 people). The cashier was super nice and took our order. We step to the side and wait. A woman then shouts from the kitchen saying "Excuse me ma'am people normally order 3 bags max per person. I'll fulfill it this time but I'll deny it next time. It's a busy weekend and we don't want people to have to wait for their order so we don't like big orders. Next time go to Pearl Kai." She was scolding the cashier in front of us saying she needs to make sure she asks next time. There were no signs around saying "Call ahead for large orders" or a "3 orders maximum" sign. We understood and said alright. What frustrated us the most was the fact that there were about 7 customers who came after us and ordered maybe 4 orders of lumpia and other menu items and got their food before us! She made us wait but fulfilled everyone else's orders and didn't scold them for ordering a lot! The rest of our party came into the store and helped grabbed the food. If orders per person were the issue then it came out to be about 1-2 orders per person in our group. We've NEVER had this happened before! We ordered about this much about two weeks ago and had no issues! We are never going back to the Waikele store and will ONLY be sticking to the Pearl Kai store. read more

We've sampled many different versions from many different providers and no one else comes close. When we attend a church pot luck or other community event, and bring a tray of lumpias from here, they are gone usually within the first 5 minutes! "Oh are those from Alyssandra's?", they ask. "Yes", we reply.... "Oh those are my favorite!", is the usual response or something similar. Their lumpias are now six for $7.95. They have banana, pork or pork with veggies. I tried all three and they're all good. I prefer the pork with veggies and the banana ones. I placed my order with the friendly cashier. She told me that it would take a few minutes as she was going to fry them fresh. I waited about five minutes. A hidden gem I stumbled upon by visiting The Urgent Care recently. I've always had Alyssandra's Lumpia Express at Waikele Shopping Center but I didn't even realize they had a location at Pearl Kai? The more you know lol! Who doesn't love lumpia, definitely a great snack on the go. I paired this with coconut juice. I got the 6 piece which was half vegetable and half banana. I tried their veggie with pork lumpias and also snagged some banana lumpia for a sweet note. Both were hot off the press! I mean, hot, fresh, and rolled to perfection. Quick bite. What this small little shack lacks in size, it makes up in taste. I've been here a few times and always get the veggie (with ground pork) and Shanghai. Both are tasty. I like the crispy outside and chewy inside. They also offer the banana lumpia (Turon) but I'm not a fan of sweet lumpia so I don't get that. I've been wanting to try this little shop for ages and had the opportunity today since I was out running errands and made the stop. No one but me at the business when I pulled in and walked up. Placed my order with the hair-netted auntie who came to the window, paid and thought it would be several minutes while my order was prepared. I no sooner put my card back in my wallet when I was handed a bag with my goodies...I want my tip back. I asked for and received two six piece pork lumpia and two skewers of Cascaron. Into my car I go for the quick drive home anticipation oozing from my person and the disappointment when I naughtily slipped my hand into the bag to find the lumpia not hot from the fryer but at best tepid. Guess that's why it only took 15 seconds for my order to be ready. I love Filipino food. I was raised by a mother who spent her teen years in the Philippines and could cook the basics any family would be proud to serve. Guess I'm trying to say I know what good Filipino food is and isn't.....this isn't. While the oil wasn't stale it wasn't fresh either. The lumpia were just soggy with the oil which did nothing to enhance the flavor. Don't think I've ever had what I consider less than mediocre lumpia until today. The ladies are nice there and for this little hole in the wall, they surely hold their own!! They have pork, pork and veggies, I believe chicken and veggies, and banana. [Spreading the love during COVID 2020] We came to Pearl Kai to try Fooki. After I've placed my takeout order, hubs decided to drive around for other options for the picky kid, and that's when I saw Alyssandra's! Jumped out with sole intention of buying banana lumpia and ended up with banana lumpia, spring rolls, and coconut mochi (coz Aunty asked, and I'm a sucker). We've been buying lumpia from Alyssandra's since Waikele days many many moons ago! Looks like they're doing well enough to have three locations -- good for them! Their lumpias are always perfectly wrapped and consistently fresh and crispy. We've had greasy ones over the years, but on the whole they're always piping hot, perfectly sweet (banana) or seasoned (spring rolls). I think their prices are reasonable. I don't like the coconut mochi though. Too much sugar on the outside. I also don't taste any coconut. They also sell frozen unfried lumpia! I think 10 for $7.50 if I recall correctly. This is for the pearl Kai location. Went there in the afternoon and waited for my lumpia for a few minutes. When the lumpia came out, it was dry. blackish brown and burnt. I was already on my car and I was just about to dig in to eat the lumpia. When I saw this, I went back to return the lumpia and ask them if I could get a new bag of freshly cooked lumpia because the one she gave me was burnt or just refried again to sell it. She grabbed the lumpia and rudely said there is no more because they just had a big order and they're closed already. She threw my money to me and just turned away with no apology. What a big B. If I could've, I would've given her a slap dumb old lady. Last time ever patronizing their business. And this location is always closed with no sign why. I haven't had any in years and I am so glad to have found this place! There was no line, so we ordered and it was so quick. The Lumpia were nice and warm and she got them ready to go right away. This is our favorite place to get lumpia. My kids and I actually did a taste test comparison with 2 other lumpia places, and Alyssandra's came out on top! What makes it our favorite? The crispy wrapping (it's very flakey) and the pork filling is the tastiest and has the best texture. It's so cheap too, at $1.50 per piece! Waikele to my family is shopping & lumpia! Quality/Taste: As we frequent Waikele, my mom always orders lumpia to fuel her shopping! I remember on 2018 or 2019's Black Friday, we had to wait 45-50 mins for lumpia. Almost an hour wait for lumpia! Wish they would've told us the estimated wait time so we would've ordered a snack elsewhere but other customers were willing to wait for their lumpia! On a normal day, the wait time is about 5-15 minutes and well worth it for fresh and hot lumpia! They have banana lumpia (which my family loves), pork lumpia and vegetable lumpia. This place is hit or miss. But today it was a miss. Generally speaking I do like their turon so I stopped by to get some. Guy in front of me was waiting. Thought it was for his order but apparently he had been waiting some time and ended up ringing the bell for service. We looked at each other as the lady kept walking by the order window looking preoccupied as if no customers were present. I peeked into the window and said can we order? Another worker frying lumpia said "just a moment." We stood there like idiots. I guess work was busy. Too busy to help customers in line wanting to order and spend hard earned money on their product. But time is money as the saying goes so my patience was ticking. I left after nothing was happening, so they can count the money they made today (that didnt include what I had to contribute to their day's profit) and consider themselves short of what they could have had. They need to think about improving their service. There were 3 people visible there. Assuming the guy was wrapping in the back, the lady was frying and the other one was busy walking back and forth. Not one of them could pause for a brief minute to take 2 waiting customer orders and continue on? For example, hi what would you like? Id like blah blah blah. Punch into terminal and accept money. Done. Repeat once more. Get back to "working." I wasted about 10min of my time after getting off the freeway and the day's traffic, only to waste precious time to get an order of annoyance with a side of nothing. I left because I figured if and when they took my order, they'd still have to make the order for the guy ahead of me, besides my own and I'd have possibly wasted a total of 30min there.
