Hubby was hungry for Filipino food and told him to check out Pampanga Kitchen located at Pearl Highland inside the food court. He got the two choice but it's already set menu. They should make it that we can choose our 2 choice. That's the downside of this place. He wanted Laing and Pinabet but they didn't have that choice. You would have to order separate meal for it. That's why I gave 4 stars. I only order the soup. The sinagang with milkfish with rice. It was delicious. The place is inside the food courts. Lots of chair and table to eat your meal at. The chicken papaya soup was good. The taste of the broth was spot on. My wife was nauseous and this is what helped her feel better. She liked the ginger touch in the flavor but felt there were a lot of chicken bones. The service was quick for takeout and the ambiance is food court style. Where I get my lumpia & turon fix! I didn't grow up eating Filipino food but have come to love lumpia & turon. Here's what we've tried so far: 1. Ube Turon: filled with ube. Sooo crunchy with smooth ube filling! I love anything ube and this hits every time! 2. Banana Turon: similar to the ube one but filled with banana instead! This one has a super thick melted sugar. Much more dessert like. But, oh so good. The outside is extra crispy because of the sugar. Highly recommend. 3. Lumpinada: the latest thing we've tried and omg it was life changing. Whoever invented this is a genius! It's pretty much a GIANT lumpia the size of an empanada! It's stuffed with all the goods such as carrot, pork, cabbage, and even boiled egg! It comes with vinegar for dipping. Overall, we have yet to buy entree plates from here but the ready made case is definitely our go to! Okay, so I haven't eaten at this Pampanga Kitchen since before their renovation. I have to say, it looks so much better, and much more modernized. They have screen menus, a side that they sell ala carte item, and then they also have their regular menu where you can purchase plates. I've walked by many times, seeing the sign for their LUNPIANADAS. I've been sketch about it because it says there's a whole egg inside, and I can't eat the egg. But I recently chanced it anyway because they look and sound so delicious! They're shaped like an empanada, but waaay bigger. They're filled with normal lumpia mix, plus mungo beans and a whole egg. All for just under $6!!! How can you go wrong?! So I ordered it, and it was filling enough, even after I dug out the egg! Lol. They serve it with a container of their spicy vinegar. I ordered their lumpia wanted pork but only had vegetable ones I said ok I'll buy um since my husband was getting a salad. I started to eat one it was kinda of oily where the brown bag was getting soak with oil. Also bought a small tray of biko sweet rice for dessert now getting back to the lumpia inside was alot of vegetables and a little bits of pork. The vinegar sauce made the lumpia a little more tasty. But after today's experience, I won't be coming back. I ordered a mixed plate with Pancit, Pinakbet, and Pork Guisantes. The Pancit was incredibly bland--about 95% noodles with barely any vegetables, just tiny slivers of carrots here and there. The Pinakbet was a major disappointment too; the vegetables were undercooked and there were no pieces of pork in sight, which is usually one of the highlights of the dish. As for the Pork Guisantes, it tasted like it had been cooked several days ago and simply reheated. It lacked the freshness and flavor I've come to expect. A new hire didn't show up Though the food isn't as good as it used to be. I used to have this authentic nostalgia taste.... The pancit tastes like black pepper and hardly any vegetables or meat. I only seen pieces of cabbage.The sari sari- lacked taste. The Pinakbet was overcooked. The lumpia was soggy with oil. The rice had the "brown" residue from the bottom of the pot. The pancit is plain (not as much flavor as most Filipino restaurants), but the kare kare and mixed plates are flavorful. It didn't sound like they did, but Aunty was so sweet -- she asked the cooks and told me to come anyway since they had just enough! I sent my husband to pick it up (he didn't know I called), and when he got there, he asked if they had any lumpia left Aunty didn't want to give it to him at first because she was expecting me! I had high hopes for this place. The menu has a large selection and everything looked delicious! I ordered the chicken papaya soup and mixed plate with pork adobo and guisantes. Chicken papaya soup had good flavor and I loved that it came out piping hot. The amount of ginger they put in the soup was overpowering, and overall the soup was oily. The squash was cooked well, it wasn't mushy at all. In this type of soup I feel like they could do without the chicken skin as it's not really edible or tasty. Empanadas were hot, oily and delicious. You need the vinegar sauce to go with it. Ube turon was just okay, I think they use ube halaya. I was a bit taken aback by the texture of the filling, in more used to actual pieces of ube. Lechon kawalii plate was good, it came with a side of sauce with tomatoes and onions. I've had dinuguan from 3 places on island and this is the only place that has given me that "just like home" feeling. Theres so many meaty pieces of pork and the sibao wasn't overpowering or salty. I've been craving this for a few days now, but I wasn't willing to drive far for it. I'm so glad I gave this one a try because I'd come back here over and over again for it. On average they take no less than 25 mins to complete my order. No matter how big or small. I asked for pancit today and was told that they are all out. It was near closing time, so I understood. But the tomato onion was really good I like the flavor of the sauce it's in. The pork sisig was really good I actually enjoyed it even though I don't really like all that weird pork meat but the flavor was really good! Chicken papaya tasted very good and smelled good too!
