We were excited to try 'AMA 'AMA since it was closed on our last visit during COVID. We expected a great experience, but the service was extremely disappointing. After finishing our appetizers, our entrées simply never arrived. We waited more than 1 hour and 20 minutes with no check-ins from our server, no refills on drinks, and no updates. I had to ask specifically for my son's water to be refilled, and even then, the rest of the table was ignored. When our server finally approached us, he asked how we liked our entrées--except we hadn't received them. He seemed surprised, said he would check, and never came back. Instead, 10-20 minutes later someone tried to serve us dessert. We explained again that we still hadn't gotten our entrées. It took even longer for those to finally arrive. For a bill of about $400, this was absolutely not the level of service we expected. We had great service at Makahiki, so the contrast was even more noticeable. Being a Disney nut you are used to scooping up every reservation you can get when you can get them so when I got this one I was happy because it was 3 weeks before my trip and well, everyone knows you need to book way farther in advanced for Disney stuff. To be fair I did know it was $125 per person and it was a 4 course meal but in hindsight it was a very expensive failure in family food choice. My 11 year old daughter turn vegetarian a few months ago. We've taken her to a ton of fancy restaurants in Los Angeles so I thought splurging on $125 plant based meal would be okay. However, it wasn't. She was absolutely disappointed in the menu and we couldn't really change anything out on the menu for other items because that is what the chef put together. Disney is pretty accommodating in food choices but here, know that the menu is set and they won't let you order from the kids menu if you are over 9 but still eat like a kid. So basically, it was $125 down the drain. Her displeasure from the start basically ruined the meal. On a side note, I was happy they offered a plant based meal for vegetarians and vegans but yeah, it doesn't quite work for all. I really wish Disney would bump up kids ages from 3-9 to even higher like 12 for situations like this. My daughter aside, the service was great, even though we couldn't change our items the servers were really outstanding (5 stars). They were quick, efficient, and did a great job explaining what was being served. The reason for the 3 really comes down to the taste of the food vs the value. The three of us ordered different items for our four courses and we only really found one out of the four courses really good. For me, it was the pork belly and my husband the ahi tuna and my daughter enjoyed the pineapple dessert. The other selections we made missed the mark in taste. We eat out a lot in Los Angeles and I consider my family foodies but this was a big disappointment in flavor. Ambience and service was amazing but the food itself, I have had better. It's sad to realize $500 in. So my advice is check out the menu really well. We did but in hindsight I would have quizzed my vegetarian daughter more. And I myself should have looked at the menu better. If you have young kids over the 3-9 age range make sure they really want to eat here. Otherwise it's $125 for breads And if you are from a foodie town make sure the menu is to your liking. It's cool to score a Disney reservation but not if it won't make your party happy. read more

'Ama 'Ama is a high end 4 course culinary experience that is a rare treat. My husband and I enjoyed a full service premium dinner on the waterfront as the sun was going down over the laguna. It was romantic, special, and delightful. Many Yelpers speak to the usual menu, which I have included here. The wine price was up $10 at our sitting, so be aware of varying prices. I will speak to my plant based menu which was so special. It is not often creators spend this effort on plant based entirety. I feel special and significant. The amuse bouche was a fun sea plant with avo and cucumber and salt. 1st course was a delightful ginger chickpea spread with tarro chips. 2nd course was my favorite: these amazing mushrooms, pickled onion, and sweet potato drizzle. Just divine. 3rd course was this gorgeous plate of veg with a slightly sweet coconut curry. I was so full by this point but I finished this beautiful dish. Finally 4th course was pineapple on shortbread wafer with mac nut creme. Also, I started with the Night Fell on Ubé cocktail, which is a Woodford reserve old fashioned using ubé as the simple syrup. So this was my first 4 course meal, and the bar is set VERY high! Every server, hostess, waiter, and staff member was the nicest, most accommodating, and knowledgeable person. It seemed like everyone knew everything about each item in each course - it blew my mind! We started with drink orders while the hostess placed our napkins in our laps for us (!!) and then they brought out a little amuse-bouche followed by three types of bread (Levash, Multiseed, and Sourdough) served with Hawaiian salted butter. Then the actual courses started (starter, appetizer, entree, dessert... every plate was presented beautifully! It definitely kept up with the ambiance of the restaurant - sleek, modern, and of course, Hawaiian! Too pricy for what it is but at least the food and view were good. I know it's a fancy restaurant at a resort, but for $130 a person i expected a bit more. I got the kabocha soup, pork belly, and lobster with lemon bar for dessert. All were pretty good but I've had better versions of each dish elsewhere. They start with a free bread sampler with nut bread, sourdough and lavash. All okay, nothing special. It does a good job of filling you up though since the portions are very small. They also have a complimentary bite of crude which tasted pretty good. The lemon bar was interesting because the bar itself isn't lemony but the topping contained all the lemon flavor. The 4 stars is for the service and ambiance. The setting is beautiful - we had a very late reservation (at 8 almost to closing) - so it was a bit dimmer and more intimate. But the surrounding trees were lit and they had live music towards the beach area. It gave a feel of the quiet and peaceful Island life. As one reviewer commented this is not restaurant for kids unless they don't mind sitting for long periods of time. The staff was very nice to us and actually brought another chair and put together so my daughter could lay down. I did have to ask for kids menu because I know my youngest wouldn't eat anything on the adults menu. Everyone that served us were polite and very attentive. Even the servers bringing out the food were personable and knowledgeable and added to the overall experience. Our two assigned wait staff seemed really busy as there was a larger party next to us but always made sure our water was topped off and we were doing good. The two dishes that stood out for me were the first 2 courses - Kabocha squash - soup reminded me of a bit of curry with the coconut. The shrimp was delicious and the presentation of pouring the broth was really elegant. Pork Belly- melt in your mouth goodness with Okinawa sweet potato. If they allowed I would have done 2 orders of this. My entree I got duck and I don't know if that was the right protein of choice. I guess I'm used to Asian preparation of the roasted duck so was expecting the skin to be crispy and salty but it was duck breast (my mistake misread the menu). I wasn't a fan of the tomato jam - it was tasty for sure but I'm just used to eating duck differently. I actually enjoyed the pineapple with mustard seed very much. This rating is only based on the customer service, the food was good. We made a 5:30 reservation for three to get table closest to the beach to see the sunset. After a brief period, we noticed we were placed in a dark corner of what actually was part of the Off the Hook bar, no one else was seated there. This area has wooden tables and wooden chairs, almost like camping. Not the brightly colored plush seats in the main Ama Ama restaurant. My wife talked to a hostess and was informed that a couple moved from their back table and stole our table without permission, they were not told to move. I wanted to leave, but I did not want to ruin the dinner for the others. I did not enjoy my dinner. We called a manager over, never did the manager acknowledge that our table was taken. We were moved to the waiting area until another table was available. The sunset was gone, I was pissed. In an apparent attempt to make things better, wine was served 'complements of the manager' however I was the only one that drinks wine. We escalated this to a manager in the hotel the next day and she stated 'they missed the mark' and assured us someone would get back to us. The original Ama Ama manager got back to us in a few days and said 'there was a misunderstanding', it was just common manager speak, there was no misunderstanding. Eventually my dinner was comped. In my opinion this fell short, I am not going to get that evening back. Staying at Aulani as a DVC member is not cheap. My pictures show the dark area we were sitting (Off the Hook table) and the bright area we should have been sitting from with a view of the ocean. The staff should have tactfully made those guest move. I am still fuming from this experience. PS We had two servers, our waitress had the attention span of a bug, she talked about her real job as a real estate agent and working there because the market is slow. Our waiter Gio was very good. This was our first time dining in a place with courses. For $125 a person you get 4. A starter, appetizer, entree then dessert. Tbh the food was delicious but we were still hungry after.. sorry. Just being honest. If you want to be full this isn't the place for you. In all honesty though you pay for the experience! What stood out to me had to be the steak and the pork belly. Very savory and flavorful. Service: Very welcoming and accommodating. The servers here really know how to describe all the food you might be looking to order. Just get whatever sounds good! Overall: Food here tastes good but portions are small. If you're looking to get full then go somewhere else. If you're looking for an experience then come. What a magical little gem! Located right on the beach from Disney's Aulani hotel, 'AMA 'AMA truly made this dining experience one for the books. I had just gotten engaged about 15 minutes prior to our dinner reservation and they pulled out all the stops! Every server we had was phenomenal and knowledgeable about items on the menu which is always a plus to me. They seated us with a great view of the beach and sunset and even set up the table with a beautiful congratulatory card. Now for the food - I have come to love experiencing food in this way, smaller menus with many courses. This allows me to try what I like and not feel so heavy leaving. We started with an amuse-bouche which was delightful! It was pancetta with a light creamy sauce. Yum! My starter was the Kabocha Squash Soup and just as I expected it was fantastic! For appetizers we ordered the Ahi tuna and the pork belly. The Ahi was almost like a deconstructed bowl and still delicious. I really enjoyed the pork belly - the onion on top is what really set it off for me. My entree was the Ika Ink Doppio Ravioli and wow I was blown away! The flavors were so good and it was loaded with lobster on top! The sauce flavored with the veggies was so fresh and unique. I could've eaten another round of this! Lastly for dessert I had the chocolate mousse which I could never hate as I'm a big chocolate girl! They decorated it beautifully and even made this a congratulatory dessert as well. 'AMA 'AMA has it all. Good food, good drinks, a beautiful ambiance and a gorgeous view of the ocean while your dining. When you walk inside this open air restaurant you start to feel relaxed. It's a luxurious coastal themed restaurant that has beautiful displays and decor. Upon arrival Anisha greeted us and sat us at our table. She was very friendly which contributed to a great start to our dinner. Our waiters were Eric and Gio. Both were so friendly and personable I couldn't have asked for better service. They both took time to talk to us and share stories and tips. I really enjoyed my conversations with both of them. This place has a four course prixe fixe menu which allowed us to sample a lot of the chef's amazing cuisine. For starters we got the Kiawe Smoked Fish and Venison Tartare. Both were delicious. For the appetizers we got He'e (Octopus) and Pork Belly. The octopus was amazing especially paired with the risotto. The risotto had a lot of flavor and was creamy. The pork belly was so tender and melt in your mouth. For the entrees we got the local catch and Paniolo Kobe Ribeye. I highly recommend the local catch. The fish was so fresh and paired so well with the Osetra Caviar vinaigrette, celery root purée, and asparagus. The Paniolo Kobe Ribeye was cooked to perfection but was definitely lacking salt. For desserts we got the coconut flan and I also highly recommend this dessert, it was very delicious and not too sweet. It tasted natural. My kids had the three course Keiki meal dinner. For starters they had the Mickey and Minnie shaped spam musubi which they all enjoyed. For entrees they had the Bucatini Pasta and the Grilled Steak. The Pasta was good and my girls loved the meatballs. My son got the grilled steak and once again the steak was cooked perfectly but was lacking salt. For drinks I had the Night Fell on Ube. It was a very interesting cocktail which changed flavor as the ice melted. Apparently, the Ube was in the ice cube so over time the drink got sweeter and sweeter and it sure did! It was a fun and enjoyable drink that I highly recommend trying. Watching the sunset was a treat on top of the great food and drinks. The first thing about this restaurant is the price of the food! My family is 3 adults 2 children. The whole dinner cost 650 dollars for a small potion of food!! My kids dinner had a steak that was a inch big! The service is 5 stars though. Mainly because they present everything they give you, very kind, and try to make everything amazing. We celebrated our anniversary dinner here during our stay. They sat us next to the blinds so we could see the sun set during our dinner. For my meal I ordered the veal tartare, octopus risotto, lamb dish (2 rack of lambs), and chocolate dessert. I found all dishes to be excellent. The veal tartare was not gamely and had a nice buttery note to it. The octopus slices were tender and the risotto was very flavorful. It was umami forward. The lamb was cooked perfectly medium rare. The outside was seared with season salt. The meat as tender and juicy. I was very surprised by the lamb dish as not many places can cook lamb good. They also served bread with the meal, which I got the lavosh bread and multi seed bread. Both were excellent, but the lavosh was tastier. It was crisp and had a salt on top that it did not need any butter. Our two servers were excellent. They paid a lot of attention to us. They both made our experience memorable. read more

Food, service, execution and atmosphere justify the high price tag. Although this is not an inexpensive meal, for a special occasion this is worth the price if you can afford it. The food was superb, both in quality and execution. Service was friendly and attentive. Each dish was explained. My wife has a number of food allergies and the kitchen was meticulous in insuring that the wasn't any cross contamination. If you choose to dine during sunset, the ambiance couldn't be better. I could not have asked for a better dining experience. It is very specific to the individual whether the meal justifies the cost. You are definitely paying a resort premium at the Aulani but the price is comparable to a high end restaurant in Vegas. made a 530 reservation for a 6pm seating exactly 30 days in advance of our wedding anniversary, and this restaurant delivered everything we were hoping to receive out of a fine dining experience and more being somewhat well traveled and living on the west coast of the mainland, we've seen our fair share of sunsets, but the one we were treated to this evening was everything our hawaiian dreams are made of: the silhouettes of palm trees swaying in front of a cloudy orange and blue horizon; the moon's light shimmering across a bay, its waters reflecting a purple night's sky; a woman singing acoustic love songs on a terrace just barely within view; the clinking of glasses in the hands of you and your loved ones -- (alright, that was way out of my comfort zone, but i hope you got the picture. and since you probably didn't, i'll upload one) and then came the food: without spoiling too much, every dish + tasting we were presented with was very well executed and refined, though i will say the only things we ordered that didn't leave a major impression on us were the raviolis and the desserts we chose that day but even so, such a wonderful experience overall and this evening, among so many great others, was possibly our best and most memorable -- thank you all so much for the great meal, warmth and hospitality; we are very much looking forward to the next time we can be with you again read more

I ordered the squash starter which was a soup and it is served table side and was wonderful. My mother-in-law ordered the salad, my husband the kiawae fish spread and my son the venison tartare. Everything was fabulous. Then we received the ahi tuna, octopus with risotto and pork belly. Everything was fantastic and our main courses- the local dish, which when I dined was the equivalent of snapper, the scallops, duck and rib eye were all executed beautifully. Looks are deceiving at the new Ama Ama signature restaurant concept. While playful gastronomic plating with coastal flair is the goal, flavor and fulfillment falls flat. Our server Eddie was excellent, however the dinner was so delayed that tables around us chose to take their $125pp meals in to-go containers back to their rooms. For myself, the venison tartare was gamey and unappealing in appearance. The pork belly was unevenly cooked and served with flavorless purple potatoes. My main course was the rib eye which was no more than 3 ounces of beef that was just "tasty". My wife felt her ravioli was inedible and I have never heard her complain before. I am a Disney Annual Pass member, have eaten at EVERY Disney Signature restaurants on both coasts (California Grill, Narcooossees, Carthay Circle, Napa Rose, etc). My family are long time DVC members. However, the meal my wife and I had for the first night of our honeymoon last evening was nothing short of a humongous disappointment. Ama Ama places LAST among all Disney signature restaurants I have ever had. I was hoping for something that rivaled meals I have had in the northeast or at Michelin restaurants yet I was left hungry and unimpressed. My spouse and I had a romantic dinner for 2 here. It's an open air restaurant and they sat us overlooking the ocean and the sunset. It was gorgeous to watch the sun set below the water. I forgot how beautiful Hawaii is , now that I live on the west coast. Aside from the views, the service was excellent. The hostesses and the servers were top notch. The food was also excellent. It was a prefix meal and I already forgot what I ordered but I ate everything that was served to me. Even the breads are delicious. The 125 per person price point is typically a Michelin one star restaurant pricing and I think the food, environment and service lives up to the Michelin 1 star quality. The portions were all extremely small as well. The desserts were decent and the drinks weren't bad. But the scallops were a bit fishy, ahi was salty, and the soup and steak were bland. The food reminded me of dishes you could get at Disneyland during one of their food festivals. Presentation was great but taste wasn't there. We were also covered in flying bugs the entire time which isn't the restaurant's fault necessarily, but it was distracting as the bugs kept landing in our food and drinks. Foodies Beware... looks good, smells good, tastes inedible. Great service and so much promise but food temperatures seemed unsafe and flavors were so unbalanced it was inedible at times. For the price, it should have been perfect. I have never met a lobster I couldn't eat but this time I took a few bites and it was so salty and nasty I had to stop. 3 people+two alcoholic drinks=$550+. We did not think it was worth it. We have had prefix meals many times in San Francisco and compared I can truly say this meal was a disappointment. The quality of food was fine, it was the dishes left us with question marks. Strange mixes of food. Not a fan. We have been coming to AMA AMA for over 8 years, we have not been since Covid. I wish they would make this restaurant a normal family restaurant, not some outrageously priced so-so restaurant. AMA ama used to service breakfast which was fantastic. Not any more. In fact I have to say, Aulani's restaurant selection is not up to par. You are stuck on property to eat unless you walk across the street to a shopping center. The only options on property are: off the hook which is casual bar food, ama ama prefixed dinner, ulu cafe is a grab and go with limited hot food and Makahiki which used to be the best breakfast and dinner buffet, Makahiki is no longer a buffet, but now a prefix dining establishment. Not really happy with our dining options. read more
