I went to Everest on grand with a friend and I was hoping it'd be better. We got a chicken tikka masala and chicken curry with a chai tea and mango lassi. The tikka masala was creamier then I am used to and the chicken curry was okay. The chai tea and mango lassi were good but I wasn't a fan of the chicken entrees we got. The meal was more expensive than we were expecting so we were a little disappointed with the outcome. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant and street parking nearby.

My friend Tim asked me if we could meet for lunch. A belated birthday. It's where we used to meet every so often when we worked together five and more years ago. We went simple and ordered just two dishes. One was a five star for sure and the other was definitely quite good.

The food being the most important part of the experience, the flavors and execution were there. The curries were tasty and the lamb was cooked perfect. Also got the combo momo - personally didn't care for the sauce it came with but the momos themselves were real good. The naan and rice were fine. Costs were fairly pricey, though prices are up everywhere. Service was fine. The interior is a bit tired appearing and bathroom was not well kept up - so my initial impressions were not good - but the curries and momos were good. Solid option for the area, but if I am specifically seeking out Himalayan/Nepalese food, I'd like to try some of the other places in the Cities as well.

Veg samosa ($6). Vegan by default and pretty good.

Everest on Grand is still a good place (3 stars is not a bad review in my book), but the Twin Cities is blessed with numerous Nepalese/Tibetan/Himalayan spots and I don't think it's the best around. (Gorkha Palace in Northeast Minneapolis is the reigning champ). The restaurant labels all its vegan items which is helpful. I got the veg samosa ($6 for two) and did think these were great and savory. The veg momo ($8) was also excellent with a wonderful, spicy dipping sauce. The potato achaar ($5) is a cold potato appetizer that tasted pretty good, albeit slightly vinegar-y. The okra ($14) is vegan by default and pretty good, though the katahar (jackfruit) ($14) curry didn't wow me. Similarly, the veg thukpa ($14.25) failed to impress, being bland and too thick. The roti ($3.45) was too thick and not made well at all. If you're looking for better Nepalese food in the Twin Cities, Gorkha Palace is my go-to, though Himalayan Cafe on Lake Street is also respectable. Namaste Cafe is hipster-cool with unusual offerings, but pricey. Everest on Grand is the best in St. Paul, but not the best in the area.

Tofu in rich tomato sauce and Roti bread . All vegan!

Amazing, authentic, hot, filling food. Wow what a great place. The wait was about 15-20 minutes an hour before closing on a Wednesday and was busy! It's probably because of how amazing the food is. I ordered the full plate of veg momos for me and my boyfriend. I promise you, I could've easily eaten 30 alone. They came out piping hot, and with an AMAZING homemade sauce, i would ask for extra. The vegan selection here is plentiful and you don't even have to customize anything, which is a relief. I got the tofu with potatoes, peas and a rich tomato sauce. It was FILLING and very authentic tasting. The food is seriously temperature wise HOT. Spice wise, could've turned it up a notch. I ordered a level three, and it was not spicy enough for me, so i'd go big or go home here. It came with a huge portion of rice and seriously i can't stress enough how filling this place is. The service wasn't quick, but wasn't too long. The staff is friendly and attentive. Would recommend highly, but perhaps call in advance to see if there's a wait or not. Awesome, healthy, comforting food. Thank you!

As a vegetarian, I was in heaven at the number of items that I could choose from. Thankfully, my companions were all willing to split dishes, so I could try more than one. We started out with the lentil green onion pancakes. They were don't earth than I had expected. I thought they would be more of a super crispy flat dish, but they have the substance of a real pancake, with savory flavors. Really wonderful. We ordered three entrées, including the jackfruit and the eggplant. The jackfruit was my absolute favorite, but that was not universal. I think it was very well well prepared, but not everyone likes jackfruit and not everyone loves those spices. But it made me so happy. The eggplant dish was pretty good, but the potato two eggplant ratio could be improved. A few too many potatoes and not enough eggplant. Otherwise excellent. The service was fine. The owner did come over and say hello to us afterwards and he was delightful. Another excellent immigrant owned business to support in Minneapolis.

There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. It was dark outside when arrived and we missed the turn on the first pass. The parking lot is very small and the front of the restaurant doesn't face Rice St. As other reviewers have mentioned, the restaurant itself was rather small, probably only offering seating for a couple dozen people at most. Ambiance isn't something you're going to go to this restaurant for. While they had main and side dishes I was familiar with, they also had dishes I wasn't as familiar with. We ordered the samosas to start and they came out fast and were delicious. I ordered the chicken biryani since other reviewers spoke so highly of it. For context, this was my first time having Nepalese food. It appears there are differences between the spices typically used in Nepalese food that aren't typically used in Indian dish equivalents (or perhaps not to the same extent), but I didn't care for the strong blend of seasonings in the dish. At first it was hard to place what spice it was until I bit into a clove, and that's when I realized that was the flavor profile I wasn't expecting in the biryani that I was enjoying. It's safe to say that I was expecting more of a tumeric, ginger, garlic biryani, and not the warmer spices biryani that is perhaps the Nepalese style. The raita helped tame some of the flavor so I could eat some of it. I'm sure it's delicious to those who are fans of this combination of spices, it just wasn't for me. My daughter ordered the alook palak and said it was ok. In comparison to the amount of biryani I received, her portion size was quite small. Overall, I'm glad we tried some place new, and I had a new food experience. However, it's safe to say that I won't likely be returning, but again, perhaps Nepalese food isn't my jam.
