If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I was sent here on a mission by my mother and my spouse to order vegetable pakora for a very specific dish, khadi pakora. It's a yogurt-based curry with CRISPY pakora in it. I came here thinking "any restaurant can make pakora, it's literally just deep-fried, battered vegetables." This was a mistake I have already lived to regret. Before I describe the food, I'll note that I ordered online and was advised to pick it up in 20-35 minutes. I arrived on the later end of this range. I went into the restaurant and no one was seated inside, but it was a Monday night so maybe that's a quiet day for them. I went up to the counter to pick up my order. There was nobody there but someone came out after I rang the bell. I picked up my order and went home, not thinking to check it. I arrived home with the goods in hand. My mother opened it and gave me a look of disappointment, contempt, and disgust. The pakora was cold, limp, and not battered. It seemed like it was microwaved or even just taken straight out of the fridge. We still made the curry, but it was an abomination. I've never had pakora this bad. My family and I enjoyed a delicious lunch here last weekend. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, the palak paneer, chana masala, garlic naan and of course my daughters got mango lassis. Everything was AMAZING. I was so thankful that they took my daughter's "white girl spice level" to heart and made their dishes quite mild, whereas my friend's husband who was with us, had his made extra spicy, which he loved! They are very accommodating to whatever spice level you are comfortable with, which was so nice. Our server was the nicest man - he was so kind and answered several questions for us, and brought everything out exactly as we had ordered. Located in a busy strip and shopping area of Bloomington. I did not have trouble finding parking though. It is nice, neat and clean on the outside and inside. I was in Minneapolis for a business conference and stopped by this place expecting a quick, professional dinner. What I got instead was pure disrespect. The bearded waiter acted irritated the moment we walked in. No greeting, no eye contact, just attitude. He complained about the kitchen closing, blamed us for not calling ahead, and rushed us like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. When we asked where to sit, he pointed vaguely and said, "Anywhere," then got annoyed when we followed his direction. Simple questions were met with sarcasm instead of help. The tension was so obvious that my wife and I decided it wasn't worth staying. On the way out, we checked the restrooms. They were dirty and poorly maintained, which matched the overall lack of care we experienced. We walked out without ordering. If you're in Minneapolis for business or travel, skip this place. The server was extremely rude and offensive. At one point, they told customers to "use common sense" in a very disrespectful and condescending way. The attitude alone was enough to make the experience uncomfortable, but what made it worse was witnessing the server being openly racist toward another customer. It was shocking and unacceptable to see that kind of behavior in a public restaurant. No one should be treated that way, especially when they are simply trying to dine. Customer service was completely lacking, and the environment felt hostile and unwelcoming. Because of how poorly we were treated, we decided to leave without ordering. I tried the Chili Gobi, requested spicy. It was not crispy, like at all. Nor was it spicy. Bummer on both accounts. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. I wouldn't be opposed to trying the Gobi Manchurian just to see if it's any better. Palak Aloo - Aloo Saag is one of my favorite dishes, so I was happy to see that they offer a vegan version. I requested it spicy. It was ok. I've had worse; I've had much better. It's missing something... I wouldn't order it again. Poori was different but ok. Vegetable samosas were delicious. Excellent crispy, flaky samosa and perfectly spiced fillings. The menu is clearly marked with "V" for all vegan items, and there's lots from which to choose. They also label for GF, NF, and DF (gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free, respectively). I would like to try more vegan items, like the Bhindi Masala and the dosas. So although I would return, based on my experience, I wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

Entry-level Indian food. Basically, it taste like I was trying to make Indian food at home only I'm not Indian and I have no idea how to cook Indian food. Food was just so so in kind of bland, considering all the spices they use. We ordered beers and all they have is plastic cups for you. We asked for water and they gave us bottled water, then actually charge for the water $.50 Also, they charge $2.99 for a credit card surcharge. The total bill for two people was over $100. I was giving this place two stars, but decided to reduce it to one star. Eat elsewhere. PS: the pictures I took make it seem better than it really was. Processed the first order but it was for the incorrect location (Bloomington instead of Rochester). I immediately called the restaurant and was told that it was cancelled in a very harsh and unfriendly manner. Checked the credit card activity log and it showed a charge. Called again 15 minutes later to just do one more confirmation that it was cancelled and again greeted with "it's already cancelled...." - checked a few days later and the charge showed up on my balance. I now have to initiative the dispute transaction feature since Hyderabad double charged me. Advice - try to be a little more understanding of customers especially first-time customers who want to give the place a try. Also, don't confirm that the charge was cancelled but still charge the order on the credit card. read more

The food here is superb. I got the feeling, whilst dining in, that most of their business is take out. We were only given 2 menus (they're prolific!) for 4 people and service was definitely not up to par with what I expect. However, the waiter got us everything we needed and didn't judge us overtly for ordering WAY too much food. That garlic naan is some of the best I've ever had. Freaking home run. OK the food was but let's break this down. I had two friends heading to TX and wanted a place near to 35W. They are both foodies and good cooks. My son Brando and my friend Steve all joined. Everyone of us has been to numerous Indian restaurants all over. Lately, the famous one on 394 just missed so far so many times. This review is for Bloomington location. I happen to be in area for JV state tournament. I have had good food at their Fridley location. While Fridley location is understaff as well leading to uncleared tables and slow service I tend to overlook that because their food is good. So I was excited to see that Bloomington location had a buffet. Sadly same uncleared tables at this location as well but the food was really bad. Nothing tasted flavorful, it was almost as if was watered down. I had four different curries (3 veg and one chicken) and all of them were not good! Kher (desert / condensed milk + rice) was not good either! Pakora for app in buffet was tiny strips of onion with a lot of batter. I was very disappointed and hope this was an off day for them. My wife and I were in the area and decided to try this place. As we walked up to the glass door, I noticed how grimy the glass was. That should have been enough of a clue to find another place. It was high noon and there was not one customer in the place. That should have been my second clue. We stood for a while waiting to be seated. Nobody was in sight. We were served water with no ice. I visited the restroom. There was an imprint of the bottom of a shoe on the toilet seat. Up high above the toilet is a cabinet. I gather they stand on the toilet seat to access the cabinet. The Hyderabad Indian Grill is part of a mini-chain in Minnesota (there are branches in Fridley and Rochester, too) and it has, in my opinion, the best North Indian food in the Twin Cities. Who would have guessed? First, they label all their vegan items, which is a rarity at Indian restaurants. Second, they have unusual preparations and extra flourishes you don't see elsewhere. The vegetable samosa ($8 for three) tastes great, with a perfect shell and nicely spiced potato filling. The aloo matar ($12) is vegan by default and nicely done, with a deep savory element and lots of ginger. The vegetable coconut curry ($13) is fabulous and vegan. Get the dish extra spicy and you can't go wrong. I loved the heartiness and umami-ness of it. The Fridley location does a slightly better job, but this Bloomington branch holds its own. The chana masala ($13) is vegan by default and the only unremarkable dish we got. It's good, don't get me wrong, but nothing special. The dal tadka ($12) is vegan by default and wonderful, with nigella seeds (rarely featured so prominently in restaurant preparations) and tons of fresh bay leaves and curry leaves. I loved the veg noodles ($13), part of the Hyderabad Street Noodles section. This is an Indo-Chinese dish made with vermicelli noodles, tons of black pepper, julienned onions and bell peppers and roasted red chilis. I hadn't had this dish in years (it's hard to find good Indo-Chinese food outside of India). Indo-Chinese dishes come from Hakka immigrants to Kolkata in the 1800s and merge the best of Indian and Chinese cooking. I also thought the chapathi vegan ($2.50) was nicely done: thin and pliable. I am still very new to Indian food and always wanting to expand my palate. They have a huge menu! Many more dishes that I haven't heard of before. Because I am new to these dishes I had no idea what any of them were and would have appreciated a description of them on their online menu. They do have the descriptions on their physical paper menu at the location though that I took for future orders. They are good at labeling which are options are gluten free or vegan. Chicken tiki masala is one of my go to Indian cuisines that I absolutely enjoyed from this location. I also tried the garlic naan and mushroom pepper fry. They give you huge portions so you'll have plenty of leftovers. This totaled for forty dollars which I felt was a little over priced. They were very fast at getting my takeout ready. Took about 15 minutes total. You can dine in as well but it's not that welcoming inside. It looks like they have moved towards take out because the buffet table and some tables were blocked off. YOU GUYS. This is an awesome Indian restaurant that's open late! They're open until midnight five nights a week, and until ten on Sunday & Monday! I'm excited! My friend and I came in at about 10:30pm on a Friday night. We were the only customers when we walked in, but they were ready for us. I got an excellent Chicken Vindaloo which had a nice twist of flavor to it, and my friend got something that was basically a pile of okra with sauce or something. He really liked his as well. We also got a big thing that was like a huge rolled up crepe with a potato-onion mixture inside. Fresh and delicious! Everything was expediently and attractively served. They apparently have a lunch buffet 7 days a week. I'm not usually around this area during lunchtime but I want to try it because I really think they're good at making Indian food. Loved dunkin' it in the tikka masala sauce. Which brings me to the next pro, so saucccy!! Loved the amount of sauce. Plenty to cover the rice, for dunking naan, and samosas, and fingers! My partner and I have been thinking of trying this place for a while so we decide to go for a late lunch yesterday. The service was a bit slow and it wasn't busy. One of the staff was literally sleeping in the booth across from us...a bit unprofessional. Anyways we ended up ordering the papdi chaat, mango mastani, tandoori chicken and chicken biryani. The papdi chat was delicious and had a good balance of sour and sweetness with a good texture of crispness. The mango mastani was ahh okay- although it was nice to have some texture with the dried fruit, I think you'll be better off just getting a regular mango lassi and saving a few bucks there. The tandoori chicken was the most disappointing dish and I wouldn't call it tandoori chicken because it was dried out and they gave us a smaller portion then what I'm use to. And the chicken dum Biryani was plain- not horrible but could use more spices and flavor. Overall, I was disappointed and probably won't be going back. But if I do, I will try the buffet. read more

A mainstay in Indian cuisine but rarely pulled off as successfully as in this preparation. Well done! It might not look like anything from the outside but in the bowl is one of the creamiest and best prepared sauces of this pungent and spicy dish. Naan, Num, Yum..Boom! I believe this is my first Covid time yelp review and it feels so good! My 20 year old son suggested this place tonight for take out because it is open late night-right on...because generally we have had no concept of what exactly is meal-time during this period of time and eating isn't always at a prescribed time but just when we are hungry and craving a flavor that sometimes we can't really easily determine. Well, my son got it spot on tonight! He placed an online dash order, picked it up and I brought it home and it hit that happy place for both of us. I can hardly wait to go to the actual establishment and enjoy their buffet that I see seems popular in the reviews I have read. Tonight, we split the chicken tika masala (so much better than what I can create at home) and it came with perfect rice and we also ordered the plain naan to sop up the sauce. Yo-K!
