This is my 4th experience with this vet clinic, and unfortunately it will be my last. One of the biggest ongoing issues has been getting paperwork completed correctly and in a timely manner. I need detailed doctor notes for my pet insurance claims, and during my first experience here I had to request the paperwork five separate times before it was finally corrected and accepted by insurance. This has continued to be an issue every visit since. My most recent visit was on 5/6/2026 with Dr. Godfrey, and the experience was very disappointing. Dr. Godfrey seemed extremely rushed throughout the appointment. I had several questions and concerns regarding my cat, but the responses felt very quick and brushed over, leaving me feeling like I was not given adequate time during an appointment I specifically scheduled and paid for with the vet. The vet assistant working with Dr. Godfrey (I unfortunately did not get her name) also made the experience more uncomfortable. She appeared very new and inexperienced. When reviewing the treatment estimate and cost breakdown, she explained things differently than the doctor had, which caused confusion. I asked if I could briefly speak with the doctor again for clarification, but the assistant stated the doctor was busy. She attempted to explain everything again, but it still differed from what the doctor originally told me. Because of the unclear communication, I ended up declining two services on the invoice. Felt like the clinic was not on the same page and was trying to just get more money out of me. When I explained that her explanation did not match what the doctor said, she responded with: "No it does, I just don't think you are understanding." That response felt very dismissive and off-putting. Another concern was how she handled my cat. He is an extremely nervous cat and needs to be handled gently and supported properly. While trying to place him into his carrier to take him for testing, I felt she was pushing and grabbing him too quickly and attempting to carry him without supporting his lower body. I tried coaching her on how he needs to be handled, but it felt disregarded. Eventually we asked her to step out because the interaction was making my cat more stressed. Once she left the room, my cat calmly went into the carrier almost immediately. The front desk interactions have also been disappointing. I clearly explained multiple times how important it was that all doctor notes and documentation be sent correctly for my pet insurance due to previous issues. Yet I was repeatedly told, "Dr. Godfrey is the only vet here, she's very busy and has limited time, so things may take a while." I understand being busy, but as a customer I should not have to worry about whether a clinic is understaffed or unable to keep up with patients. If there are not enough staff members or time available to properly support clients and pets, the clinic should reconsider how many patients they are taking on. Lastly, as of 5/11/2026, I still had not received a callback regarding my cat's lab results, despite being told results would take 24-48 hours. I called the clinic myself and was told I was "on the call list" for the doctor to discuss results with me. Waiting on potentially serious lab results for a pet is extremely stressful, and it was frustrating to feel like communication was not being prioritized. After still not receiving results within the 2-4 day timeframe I was later given, I called again on 5/12/2026 demanding answers while I was still on the phone with the clinic. During that call, they suddenly emailed me the lab results while I was actively speaking with them. I do not know if that was simply a coincidence, but after the delays and lack of communication, the timing felt frustrating and difficult to ignore. Regardless, I did not appreciate having to repeatedly follow up just to receive information I had already been waiting days for. Overall, I am highly disappointed with the level of service and communication from this clinic. I consistently felt rushed, dismissed, and unsupported as both a customer and pet owner. More importantly, I did not feel my cat was handled with the patience and care he needed. After nearly a year as a client with two cats, I will not be returning. I would strongly encourage new customers to carefully consider whether this clinic has the time and staffing necessary to provide the level of care and communication they expect for their pets. read more

The owner vet at Amador Valley asked me to get a second opinion before proceeding with teeth cleaning from the woman vet who had previously seen my dog at the Fremont facility. Beacon Vet. My doggie had been on Prednisone and Amador valley vet was concerned about anesthesia. I appreciated that. The Pleasanton vet at Amador valley said the Fremont vet and the surgeon at that Fremont location were his mentors and he talks to them a lot. The Fremont vet wanted me to do more expensive testing which I denied. My primary vet who I trusted said the Fremont vet's direction for expensive testing wasn't necessary. Then when I went back to Amador Vet to get his teeth cleaned, he declined to clean my doggies' teeth. He didn't even explain his reasoning to me, Then I had my dog's teeth cleaned by a reputable Livermore vet. My doggie came out doing great. What went on between the amador Valley vet and the Fremont vet? I'm suspicious since amador valley vet all of a sudden denied my doggie's cleaning. Never heard back from the owner of Amador Valley, to explain why the cleaning was denied.? He just told the front desk. I took my dog in today for a standard check up. Dr. Godfrey went above and beyond what I had asked for my pup. She said my dog was suffering from allergies which explained why my dog would lick her paw a lot. She recommended some allergy meds, and we'll see what happens. Honestly, it was something I never would have thought of on my own! So thank you! I've been reading some of these recent comments however. I don't see Dr. Godfrey being blatantly rude to customers which Simmy, Sunny, and Neela have described. As I was checking out, I did notice a woman refusing to leave the building after Dr. Godfrey had asked her to. If I'm not mistaken, the dog this woman had was a golden-doodle and the dog did attempt to either bite me or my dog. Dr. Godfrey even commented on the dog's aggression but the woman refused to leave and excused the dog's behavior as being "just anxious." These three reviews seem very suspicious to me. I believe they are libel to discredit Dr. Godfrey. Especially the review saying they have been seeing Dr. Godfrey for 5 years. Amador Valley Veterinary Center is a good choice for the care of your pets. It's nice they have a separate entrance for cats and dogs. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have retail area of food which is really convenient. They are kind and even answer questions over the phone. All the vets here are excellent. They not only go by diagnostics but once they know your pet they get a real sense of their well being. My mind is at ease as soon as I walk in the door. I know my cat is in capable hands. I am not one to give a bad review but my cat recently passed and I'm very disappointed with their directions and advice. I took my cat in and she was very sick and only 3 pounds and they told me in order to get blood work she will need to get a vaccine. I thought it was very weird but I was desperate and went along as I knew bloodwork was essential. After she got the vaccine her health deteriorated much quicker and she could barely walk. There were underlying issues but the correct step when my cat was this weak and vulnerable was to get her blood work in right away. While the vet and staff are very nice their advice for me was AWFUL. I got a second opinion and they looked at me like I was crazy when I told them she just got a vaccine. Don't recommend. read more

I was extremely impressed durning my consult with Dr Summer Godfrey. I was a new client- scheduled my appointment two days in advance for vaccines for my dog and to discuss a dental cleaning. She pre-read her medical records that were faxed over and was current on my dogs medical issues. She was very friendly and sweet to my dog, Lyla. Overall I felt their prices are EXTREMELY fair for this area. The dental estimate I received was lower then I anticipated. I look forward to using this as a primary care facility for my pets. I came in and dr agreed to keep my dog on prescription that hospital put my dog on. When I checked out I realized prescription was for 100mg not 300 she is taking . I asked to have it change and lady was rude and said just give her 6 pills a day!!! My dog struggles taking pills so doing it 6 times a day is crazy!! Not happy with this vet hospital. Took my cat, who recently passed, for a simple nail trim . They took her to a room down the hall, and a few minutes later I needed to use the bathroom, which was next to the room where they took her. I looked in the little glass window on the door, and couldn't believe what I saw. Two female technicians had my cat up in the air . One was holding her by her scruff and a red string was hanging down from her neck, not sure what that was, and the other one was trying to trim my cat's nails. You trim a cat's nails with the cat on the table, not with the cat up in the air. My only regret is that I didn't open the door and walk in on them, and say , what the hell are you doing to my cat? By the way, the nail trim they attempted to do was terrible. Never will go back to this vet, nor will I recommend them to anyone. read more

Incompetent, sloppy and inefficient. I got a second diagnosis as I was uncomfortable by the way this office is run and the thoroughness of the physical exam. Dr. Brownstone diagnosed Feline Tooth Resorption as Gingivitis. She missed the waxy buildup in the exterior area of other cat's ears. How hard is that? Also regardless of the fact that your animal is in pain or should have prompt treatment to deal with a serious condition, you can not count on this vet to make the situation better. She said dental cleaning should be done sooner rather than later then they scheduled the procedure 2 months out. Ridiculous! If you could give negative stars, like MINUS 10, that's the rating I would give them. Spend your hard earned money with someone who is worth it. read more

Beware they only do written prescriptions and will refuse to call and verify a prescription with an online pharmacy.They will Not say this to you up front .They will not offer a copy of the written prescription to you either.I finally demanded all My records emailed to me and my new vet out of state in order to get my prescriptions for my dogs for heart worm medication.Due to an interstate move a box that had them was loaded by mistake on the moving van and disappeared forever and I explained this four times in every language but polish to the vet who saw my 8 dogs as well as the office to absolute refusal to do another thing for me.Huge waste of money and terrible customer service.They just repeat they refuse to do any business with any online pharmacy. I'm pretty certain they order all their drugs wholesale online and mark them up 80-100 percent which is typical of most vet clinics and in an effort to force you to buy meds direct from them, this is their tactic. I've actually never had a vet who gave my animal a prescription refuse to cooperate with my efforts to fill my prescriptions for them before so I find this completely shocking and unprofessional. As far as the office and vet go the place is clean ,staff is young and immature up front and the vet did 3 blood draws,one rabies vaccine and a suture removal for my pack of puppies and adults.As well as exams for all 8.Nothing extraordinary to comment about regarding that other than they do not offer a litter price or puppy packages and they are as most vets in the Bay Area ,extremely expensive.It literally would have taken them 2 minutes to email the prescriptions to Valley Vet (who they feign ignorance of never having heard of them ,also bizarre as they are a large Nationally known online animal pharmacy!)or return the call and verify the prescriptions and have a five star review rather than a disappointed unhappy customer and one star review! read more

I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Amador Valley Vet and particularly Dr. Godfrey. My dog was scheduled for a surgery this morning. When I arrived I was presented with an estimate 3-1/2 times the original estimate provided by a different Dr., Dr. Andre. After taking a deposit of $1,000.00 they said they would not be performing the surgery and to take my business elsewhere saying, "we are not on the same page since I dispute the increased estimate". They showed a complete disregard for the health of my dog on the very day of his surgery placing him in unnecessary risk. In addition they had failed to fill a basic flee and tick prescription for two weeks even though they confirmed I was in "que" to be filled. To be fair I have had previously good experience with both Dr. Wolf and Dr. Andre. I don't recommend anyone use Dr. Godfrey or there office in general. There are other more professional and caring facilities such as SAGE that are available. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since this original review, I have filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Board and encourage anyone else who has had critically dangerous experience with Dr. Godfrey, or Dr. Wolf or Dr. Andre to do the same. Wow! How does this place have 4 stars?? The staff is just fine but the vets and management do not care for your pet. They CLEARLY are running a business and only want your money. My cats were fighting. One started showing dominance over the other and eventually injured the other. After multiple visits and recommending multiple blood tests ON BOTH CATS??? to "rule out" something that seems completely unrelated, my cats both showed clean bills of health. Dr. recommends a diffuser that will help the cats get along. Tacks 2 of the diffusers on to my bill at $50 a pop. These are available anywhere for $20!!! That's a 150% markup!!! Fa$t forward to the 3rd vi$it for the injured cat - he's now losing weight, hiding and needs some kind of anti-anxiety meds. Dr. says bring him back in for more blood tests. Are you kidding me?? Let's see what a new vet says. I'm happy to bring him (and my money) in to someone with answers. Not, more costly questions and rabbit holes while my cat suffers. He got beat up by his fellow house cat. End of story. He was perfectly normal before that and neither cat goes outside. Our Verdict? Not coming back. The place is clean itself. The ladies at the front desk, 1 out of the 2 was actually a little more welcoming than the other. We're starting to look for a new vet for our babygirl that's close by so it was out very first time here. We literally just left and.. welll.... We saw reviews and I wasn't hesitant at all. But after having our very first appointment here - it's safe to say we will not be back. The initial appointment was to update my maltipoo's vaccines along with checking up on her breathing, and some concern with her stool. Dr.Wolfe is a nice guy, although I don't think we walked out of there feeling satisfied with the information we received and still left with a little uneasiness about Aria (our dog). I talked about bloody stools in which over a few days time got better - he recommended diarrhea medicine for aria. We mentioned she was also itchy, so he went on about allergies and the possible allergies and pollen in the air this year. He recommended Benadryl kids which is fine. Ive administered Benadryl before to my other pup. Then he said let me get an estimate written up and never came back, never said thank you etc. Personally - for a brand new client, the staff here weren't welcoming AT ALL and do they forget it's your fur babies that you're bringing in, to trust their opinion/recommendations? While waiting for aria to receive her shots, another customer was checking out with her dog. Her dog was in distress and she was very upset.. I felt for her and talked to her a little bit. In which after she had left out the door, one receptionist looked at the other and rolled her eyes and made some funny look. My fiancé said he better hope they don't do that with every customer they have. After all, that is your business. If you have a new Puppy and you are looking for shots, this Vet center does not offer any puppy package and they will charge you a $76.00 office vet each time you go in to get a shot. I would suggest finding a place that offers puppy packages. Also, there systems are not good and you think you canceled an appointment but get a text message and phone call confirming the appointment, so you decide to go in since you have reminded you twice now, to be told when you get there you don't have an appointment and when you say I got a text and phone call, they tell you their systems are bad and they never seem to get these reminders out correctly. Maybe they should take the extra money they are charging you to get shots for your puppy to upgrade their Appointment Reminder System. read more

I have been taking my two cats to Dr. Godfrey for two years now and we drive out from Concord to see her. The cats love her and her staff. My youngest had a limp a couple years ago and I had taken him to three (yes, three!) different vets in my area. Each gave me a different diagnosis, different x-rays, and none were right. He was miserable, I was going broke, and feeling more guilty by the minute. I just knew something wasn't right. I read some reviews and called Dr. Godfrey. She asked, in my opinion, the right questions and diagnosed my little guy with what she thought was a broken hip over the phone and told me to come in right away to make sure. Low and behold she was completely right. One surgery and he was fixed. All the other vets told me he was too young to have such an injury and didn't even look into it. I haven't seen another vet since. I only go to Dr. Godfrey. She's an all bases covered, to the point, excellent diagnostician who has a way with animals that is pretty cool to see. She loves them and they can definitely tell. My cat purred during his check up today. UNREAL. Anyway, I've sent friends with dogs to her and they feel the same way I do about her. If you have a sick pet with what you believe to be a tough case like I did or just need a teeth cleaning, vaccinations, or a check up at a fair price. She's your doctor. I honestly can't thank her enough! My little dude is back to chasing his laser pen at epic speeds and its all thanks to Dr. Godfrey and her amazing staff. They also give a pretty mean kitty hair cut! I hate giving bad reviews, but this time is an exception. Dr Godfrey has been extremely rude to us and our pet. We have been going to her at Amador Valley Vet Center for over two years due to convenience, but we simply cannot justify subjecting our dog to such HORRIBLE treatment any longer. Our dog can be anxious around strangers, and vet staff quite literally manhandle her, aggressively yanking on the leash when she has even yelped in pain. Dr. Godfrey dismisses any concerns we bring up, even makes personal insults questioning our intelligence, and typically IGNORES all questions we have. Dr. Godfrey has also threatened to put FALSE negative reports about our dog in her records, intentionally trying to diminish the standard of care she receives anywhere else. Many of our friends (most of whom are non-white) have have shared in similar EXTREMELY negative experiences with Dr. Godfrey. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews about Dr. Godfrey, they may reflect how she acted in the past or behaves with a select few but they are a STARK contrast to every experience we have ever had with her. We have gone to other vets where they show genuine love to our pet rather than a clear disregard for her health. I brought my cat to the Feline center and saw Dr Brownstone on March 14th. We wanted a few mats shaved off and her ear checked for infections. The vet came back with $344 to shave my cat.... she needed sedation they explained and of course before sedation she would need blood work. When I said I didnt think having her sedated to have a couple mats shaved they said oh she wont be completely out..??? What? Then why the blood work. Not the best part, for the ear the rest of the estimate came up to $600. The vet suggested an ear cytology so me and my daughter thought well thats the most important. Then when they were done the vet didnt say if it was a bacterial infection, fungus or anything. She didnt tell us the results. So I went home googled ear cytology and that is where they take a sample and look at it under the microscope... No results at all for the $51 test and in the end the vet guessed at what medication to put our cat on anyway this is after spending $125.00 She guessed. I have called the feline clinic now 3 times asking for the results. They literally sent me the same thing with a Plan of doing an ear cytology but no actual results... They think Im dumb apparently. read more

DON'T GO HERE!!! If there were a zero star selection, I would have selected it due to my recent experience. They were great back in the day, Dr. Wolf saved my fur baby by conducting an emergency procedure a few years back, and my doggy is happy and healthy since he prescribed special food he told me she needs to be on for the rest of her life, so he gave me an Rx for her. Fast forward a couple of years where everything has been fine... I've used petsmart to get her food, and now chewy.com is easier for us, so we've been using that. It's been YEARS since I was at this vet, and used chewy several times (plus we used a new vet when we were in Antioch after we moved but the Rx was still from Amador) with no problems, until recently. Chewy called Amador to verify the Rx, but they wouldn't do it because the needed "an exam on file within the last year" aka they want more of my money. What the heck? It's been more than a year why is it all of a sudden a problem??? To make matters worse, this horrible person named Maria calls me from Amador to inform me that they cannot fulfill their duties at a veterinary clinic to provide chewy with the information that has been signed off FOR LIFE. I asked why and Maria told me it was because my dog needed to see a vet. I told her that she has been seen within the last year, and asked her why it was now all of a sudden a problem after them verifying the Rx for me for at least the past 2 years. She told me I needed to speak to a manager. I asked her why she couldn't just answer my question, and she pressed that this was a deal to be addressed by the manager. Do they even have managers at vet clinics? Wouldn't the managers just be the vets?? After I kept insisting that she educate me on the reasoning behind this confounding experience, Maria grew agitated and claimed she was going to end this call since she couldn't help me. Not only did she create a negative situation, she did NOT do her job. Your job is supposed to answer questions, make appointments, and assist with the clinic... She did NONE OF THIS. Why are you even being paid to work there when you can't even answer a simple question? And instead of being a real adult and saying "I don't know, let's find out together" you create a negative environment that warrants me to hang up on you because YOU'RE the one being difficult?? Science is science and these vets are legit, but the staff they have brought on since I left are HORRIBLE. Well, not all... I've only had the unfortunate privilege of speaking to Maria, which made me feel the need to put this all in writing. Sorry not sorry. read more

Dr. Summer Godfrey is the best. We were so lucky to find her and I am so thankful that our dog Smokie has a compassionate, caring and experienced vet. He feels so comfortable at his visits and even enjoys them. Thank you for your service. read more
