Our server was amazing, checked in on us periodically and it was also very nice to speak with the daughter of the owner and to hear it is very much still a family owned business! I have never had Guatemalan food before. I ordered the enchiladas, garnachas, pork rib pepian. The chips and salsa, the red seems tomato based and you get a green salsa. It was good, fresh chips too. I would definitely order the enchiladas again. So refreshing and healthy and I would just get two order and be set. The garnachas, not salty and cwell seasoned and good with the slaw and salsa. The pork pepian, I was too full to appreciate it. Highly recommend to eat the next day. More flavorful the next day. I highly to get to go to take home. I would say the food is okay in the this business. Like the cheeseburger had no cheese in it like what?? The Carne asada was a bit dry for me and the Garnachas weren't that good as well. We had asked for water 3 times until we decided to actually say something and they take long to take our orders so the service was pretty horrible. Sad to say Amalia's did not survive the move from Virgil to Beverly Blvd. Oh, its there, but the great taste I recall from the charming old location is not. I wanted to try something I never had so I ordered Adobada Pork, "pork marinated in an authentic Guatemalan adobada tomato sauce". It tasted like a dry fried pork chop. No sauce. The refried black beans were also very dry, with a slightly gritty taste I could not identify. I've had way better Guatemalan rice. The house made tortillas were good, as were the fried plantains. They would have been better with some crema. The service as fine. No complaint there. My companions shared an appetizer combo plate and were not impressed either. My family and I came to check out Amalias Restaurant for the first time a couple of Saturday.s ago. The food was great! Great presentation, great taste and was served in a timely manner. There are no prices on the menu which is weird. Later I figured out why. They informed us they had authentic "Gallo" beer. So we ordered 2. When we received the bill, we were charged $33 for 2 gallos which equals to $16.50 a beer which is outrageous. If the price of the beer was on the menu, I would not have ordered them. They are sneaky about it! But this is not the reason 1 star was lost. The reason I only gave 4 stars and not 5 is for the DJ. By far the worst DJ I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. The volume was all over the place. Sometimes it was so loud I couldn't hear what the server was saying. And sometimes it was low which thankfully allowed us to have a conversation and actually hear what the server was saying. At first I thought it was someone's kid that was asked to play music but it was an adult. Maybe he's a beginner DJ? I don't know if I will return, but if I do, I'll make sure to go when the DJ is not present. I do recommend this restaurant because the staff is very nice. The place was nice as well. Good ambiance and well lit. The prices of the food were good but the price of "Gallo" doesn't make sense. $16.50 a beer is "club" prices. This is a restaurant. Last thing. I have to say that eating at this restaurant has exceeded my expectations with the service, live music, and seeing where the Guatemalan culture comes from. I'll definitely be coming back on being a regular here and letting all my family members and good friends pass the word to come here. The entree I've tried was called the Pollo Asado and you can tell that this is made from scratch and the presentation is nice. I can see where the owner named Milbet is coming from. She explained to me that her grandmother was the founder that made all of this happened. Another funny thing is that I didn't realize her daughter was the one serving me that took me time to realize it. She was very attentive to my needs and quick on getting to everyone else. One of the most important things I have to mention on visiting here is please take it easy on the employees because their doing the best of their ability to give the best service and the fastest as possible for your food and drinks to come out on time. No joke this place gets very busy. It's really cool they ended up on LA Times and Despierta America. The most ridiculous reviews I've seen that should be an embarrassment to society is this guy named Alex S. because this guy sounds like he has a mental problem with this establishment. My favorite Guatemalan restaurant! Staff is always super friendly and food is always delicious. My review is for breakfast foods though, because honestly, Guatemalan breakfast is the best breakfast! Mi mama quería ordenar un plato de pescado que tienen en un table flyer de promoción y se lo pidió a la señorita que nos atendió durante nuestro tiempo allí. La señorita le dijo a mi mama que no tenían ese platillo desde ayer y que no lo iban a tener hasta el Lunes. Bueno, las cosas pasan no era problema que no lo tengan. Pidieron cafe en lo que nos esperaban pero mi papa cometió el gran error de hacerle el comentario a la señorita que fuera buena idea quitar los flyers de las mesas ya que están promoviendo un plato que no pueden hacer. La señorita desde entonces se puso muy pesada. En eso llegamos nosotros y ordenamos todos juntos. Pedimos: sopa de res, Amalias omelette, huevos con chorizo, huevos y carne asada y un mollete. De tomar tres cafes y una coca. Como mis papas ya tenian sus tazas de cafe pidieron un refill y yo pido un cafe. La señorita se fue y al tiempo regreso con la cafetera para darles a mis papas el refill. Mi papa le dijo a la señorita que nos faltaba un cafe y de muy mala actitud le contesto que ahorita lo traía. En ese mismo instante no se si fue de maldad o por accidente que no se fijo pero la cafetera estaba goteando cafe y cayo en la pierna de mi papá. Como cualquier persona mi papa reaccionó y dijo "ow" ya que andaba en short y bueno le dolio. Todos alli nos dimos cuenta pero la señorita se voltio y puso la cafetera de regreso. La señorita se tardo tanto en regresar con la taza que incluso paso otro caballero preguntando si querían mis papas un refill de cafe. Al tiempo regreso con la taza y me dio cafe. Luego nos trajo el caballero nuestra comida y le pedi un refill de cafe. Me dijo bueno pero tristemente nunca regreso para darme mas cafe. A el no tanto lo culpo ya que no era el mesero de nuestra mesa y si fue mas atento que nuestra propia mesera ya que ella nunca nos vino a preguntar si necesitábamos mas cafe o si todo estaba bien. Al fin me comí la comida sin tener nada que tomar. Que en este punto hasta como pena daba molestarlos por como estaba el servicio; algo que uno nunca quiere sentir cuando va a un restaurante. Pues sigo, pedimos los artículos de la mesa ya que no nos dieron para poder comer la comida. Y en eso miramos la comida. El aguacate y arroz que viene con la sopa de res honestamente se miraba como que si había sido de otros clientes y no lo habían tocado mucho entonces se lo habían quedado para darle a un nuevo cliente para no despreciar la comida. El aguacate le faltaba mitad del slice que le dan a uno y el arroz se miraba como que le habían comido dos cucharadas y dejado alli. Mi mama le hizo el comentario a la señorita de como se miraba y ni la dejo terminar de hablar y le dijo que "lo demás del aguacate se debe de a ver quedado cuando lo cortaron" y ahorita se lo cambiaban. Repito... no se si soy yo pero me imagino cuando agarraron los platos se dieron cuenta como se miraba el aguacate. Pudieron a ver tomado iniciativa y a ver cambiado el aguacate para que la presentación del plato fuera buena. No esperar a ver si hacíamos un complaint o no. Quisiera decir que eso fue lo peor pero no. La comida de mi papá estaba TOTALMENTE fria. El steak, los huevos y los frijoles estaban frios. Me super moleste por que me senti como que la señorita se estaba desquitando con mi pobre papa por el comentario que le hizo de los flyers. La sopa de res estaba un poco salada y el chorizo que vienen en el huevos con chorizo traílla un pedazo completo y medio. A mi papa le dio pena decirle o que le dijéramos nosotros a la mesera que su comida estaba fría entonces se lo comió así. Al rato se dio cuenta mi papa que todavía no tenia cafe yo y le pedio a la señorita una salvavidas de uva y el refill de cafe ya que no estaba atendiendo clientes y estaba limpiando unas mesas. Le dijo que ahorita se lo daba y termino de limpiar sus mesas y después le trajo a mi papa la bebida y me dio el refill de café. Mi mama empezó a comerse el mollete pero el sabor se le hizo raro. Se dio cuenta que en la parte de abajo estaba negro. Le pregunto a mi papa que era eso y el le dijo que tal vez era chocolate. Que bueno hubiera sido que si pero al probarlo mi papa se dio cuenta que el mollete se les había quemado y por eso estaba oscuro. Ese era el sabor raro que tenia. Mi mama ya no se lo comió y ellos platicaron un poco en lo que me tome mi café. El caballero que estaba de mesero paso por la mesa y nos pregunto si todo estaba bien. We got the Antojitos plate the chicharron con yuca and the wings the only good thing on the antojitos plate was the plantain and for $22 I could've got a whole branch of plantains lol we also got a mixed drink or so we thought it was just a small bottle of quetzalteca for $15 the wings were super salty which is a shame because they were so crispy it wouodbe had potential and the yuca and chicharon was just dry and not enough salsa read more

My food smelled spoiled. I ordered the beef soup which came with rice and homemade tortillas. My rice had a very bad funky smell. It smelled like when you leave food out for days and eventually it spoils and it stinks. I didn't eat it and after 1 hour I smelled it again and it literally smelled like spoiled rice. Why? I was hoping to at least enjoy the homemade tortillas but the handmade tortillas were so thick and fat with absolutely no flavor. Probably the worse handmade tortillas I've ever tasted. Great to see authentic Guatemalan food! Ordered chuchitos de chipilin and an order of refried black beans and fried plantains for appetizers...wow so good! As soon as you sit you get a basket of chips and a mild red salsita (the kind you'd have when you order chuchitos) and a spicy green sauce. Even though the beans were on the oily side the flavor won me over especially paired with crema. Main dish was fish and shrimp grilled with onions and mushrooms served with veggie rice and a generous sized half avocado. They bring you hot hand made tortillas. This review is strictly on my delivery experience. I ordered thru Postmates and I got a completely different order than the one I placed. I called the restaurant and told them and they agreed it was their mistake and apologized. They said I could keep the food they sent me, which was 2 orders of pollo en crema and that if I wanted my original order which was a soup, I had to go pick it up myself. When I told them I couldn't go, reason why I ordered delivery, they said the only other option I had was to re order but I would be charged again. At this point I was starving so I just walked down the street to get ramen. I couldn't eat the pollo en crema since I don't eat dairy.
