World cup time, we were looking for any place with a TV. We saw a hole in the wall and thought "How bad could it be?". The place seems like someone's living room filled with tables and chairs and couple of TV. A nice smiling young man greeted us and we sat down, and ordered a couple of Michelada. As we were watching the game, we also ordered a plate of Carne Asada and shrimp. Kind of out of politeness for letting us watch the game. Then the drink and food arrived, and I took a couple of bites and I was AMAZED. The grilled shrimp is something special. I love shrimp and I must have thousands of variations of it all over the world. Dare I say this was one of the top 5 if not the best. Each one grilled to perfection. Everything else on the plate was great, as if your loving aunt spent time in the kitchen making it. We ended up ordering another plate, and kept telling the lovely lady who was responsible for cooking how amazing the food was. She brought me to the kitchen to show me (kind of) how she makes the shrimp, and I was shocked at how clean and organized the kitchen was. I always love running into such places that would shock you with their quality and care to the food prep. The place may be way out of my way, but I will certainly make it a point of visiting again while I'm still in LA. You should do the same. Tell them I sent you. You'll make them smile. read more

So we certainly like our pupusas, but Farolito didn't cut it. It's a Wednesday and we called and they were out of several items; the basics were offered: traditional chicken soup (gallina), pupusas, platanos fritos, etc. But nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the food for pick-up. I get there and they had this lady singing and a very festive atmosphere (it was a Wednesday night). I am handicapped and use a walker and two workers were kind enough to offer to help me take food to the car, which I thought was very nice. The place is small. I saw one group/table of about 6 people and I think that made up most of the customers. Both times I had food from Farolito , the food was 'meh'. Pupusas from Usuluteca (same area but which closes much earlier) are significantly tastier... I might give this place another try if the other Salvadoran places are closed (farolito closes at 2am!). read more

Garcia's Moms Place (NEW NAME PENDING) The food is just like home. It is a cosy family place. Everything served was amazingly fresh. This is the Soft opening. The Chef knows his stuff!!!!! The sampler started with a grilled chicken salad. The dressing is homemade and to die for. It is fresh, clean and flavorful.. The carnitas with undertones of cumin served with yucca, leaves you craving the next bite. Roast beef tender, melts in your mouth, it is covered in a light peppery mushroom gravy that is nothing short of Perfection, accompanied with creamy scalloped potatoes.... Wow!!! I randomly stumbled across this place because I was fed up w traffic (LA people know what I'm talking about). Pepper Steak w Fries was unbelievable! I've had my share of great steaks but I literally used my fork to cut it up. That speaks to the quality of the meat. Homemade tortillas were thick like a pita which blew me away. They soaked up that mushroom pepper sauce to perfection. Apparently this place is under new ownership and the Chef knows his $H!T...he came out talked to me and told me he has been here less than a year. I cant speak on the rest of the menu but what I ate was amazing! Beer and wine too. Ignore that Pico Blvd. traffic and treat yourself to a steak and beer. I want to go back! Like....NOW! Best Mexican Food Ever! I was on a business trip which tacked on a few vacation days when I found this little gem. My husband and I were in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine which are abundant in this area of CA. I checked a few locations and read previous yelp reviews - all the really good feedback mentioned El Farolito. We pulled into the back lot during a very dark and rainy night. Our first impression was...run! As in, run AWAY! It didn't look like a very nice haute but I stuck with my hungry gut and said "let's give it a try," I am SO happy we did! The staff/family that runs El Farolito are delightfully friendly! It was quite crowded but we were still seated right away and greeted with chips and salsa. They were definitely fresh and homemade! We were starved and ordered the nachos supreme. It states it's big enough for 2, but that's a lie. It's big enough for 6! Delicious! Upon NOT finishing it, we were served our entrees. I had the enchiladas verdes with refried beans and rice...and it was phenomenal. Absolutely incredible. My husband had the chicken fajitas that were also wonderfully delicious. The staff overheard it was my husband's birthday and they brought him over a huge slice of cheesecake. Needless to say it was awesome! I ate here on June 23, 2018. This place used to be great many years ago so I thought I'd revisit it. I am never returning to this restaurant again. I came with seven other adults. The service and food were very poor. The poor service made no sense as there literally were no other customers inside the restaurant. The food took very long to have delivered. We were all equally disappointed. We don't understand how the female staff (2 different people assisting us) didn't seem to do their job well. Five meals were delivered, except mine and my friend's. I thought it would come out soon after but I think I waited perhaps 7 minutes after the 5 others had their meal. When the waitress stopped by she said "Is everything okay?" And I looked at her baffled and responded "No, we still don't have our food." Her response was "What did you order again?" I told her the two missing items. Perhaps another five minutes passes and once again the staff member asks "Is everything okay?" Again, I provided the same response. The lady apologized but there no comping on the receipt and clearly we should have been for having two request two missing plates twice. And my friend's was done incorrectly and had to wait AGAIN for her plate. They were good at refills on coffee and delivering too much tortillas. This place needs to shape up on professionalism and do the right thing and provide a complimentary dessert or discount for errors. I see a closure imminent.
