I had heard so many good things about Pollo a la Brasa, so I finally decided to give it a try today. Starting with the positives: the food is delicious. I ordered the quarter chicken with rice and salad, and I was really impressed with the portion sizes. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and gave me the kind of authentic Latin food vibes that I love. The sauce was definitely the highlight for me--it was so good that I found myself adding it to every bite. The prices are also fantastic. For the quality and quantity of food you get, this place is truly a gem. That said, there were a couple of downsides. The restaurant itself is very small, with limited seating available. The customer service also wasn't the best during my visit. Since the dining area was completely full when we arrived, we decided to place our order to go. While we were waiting for our food, a table opened up, so we asked if we could sit down and eat there instead. The chicken is white meat, but mine came a little dry for my taste. The skin was the best part - well roasted and flavorful. The black beans were decent, the rice was good. The salad was interesting cuz it had beets and a strawberry but was pretty fresh and crunchy. The chicken was flavorful and moist, with excellent dark and white meat, and the portion size was very good. I wasn't sure what to order as a side, but the recommendation was fries and salad. I switched to rice and beans, and I'm so glad I did! The sides were both pretty good. I especially loved that the beans came in a separate container and had bits of meat inside. The rice was also nice, with a medley of corn, carrots, and peas. The biggest surprise was the salad. I'd heard people on Yelp recommend it, but it's not common to find a salad at a chicken joint, especially one with avocado, beets, and a slice of fresh, crisp apple. The tomatoes were very juicy, and I'd pay for this salad on its own. The orange dressing is the icing on the cake; it's so good! I appreciate that they provide a bottle of aji sauce when dining in. I used to live near Pollo A La Brasa, but finally got to try recently. I always see customers going in and out (and a HUGE line during holidays), but I finally committed to coming here on Friday night. First, the parking is really limited, but there is some spots outside (very hard to get in and out of if you have a bigger car) and some limited street parking (also pretty hard to find if you go during peak times). I would recommend either going during non peak times or bringing someone else along. The restaurant is pretty small inside and there is limited seating. I think it is more of a pick up and go kind of place. I decided on a whole chicken and fries. Since I came close to closing, they said it would be about a 20 minute wait, which was OK with me. There are plenty of stores next block over that I wandered around in. I did do a take out since they were closing. The chicken was very good and juicy. I really enjoyed the flavors. I was not a huge fan of the green sauce, but it gave a good kick to the chicken. Also, they gave me rice instead of fries, which sucked because I was really looking forward to the fries. I went in to the restaurant with my service dog. The owner or manager told us we could not bring pets in there. I informed him this is a service dog. My dog was leashed, perfectly at heel, well behaved and well trained. I let him know my dog was a service dog but left the restaurant because I didn't want to get into any conflict. My husband stayed to order and he informed the manager that the dogs were service dogs. He was rude and he was demanding to know what my disability was, my husband informed him that he can't ask those questions because that would be revealing the nature of the disability and that is private and illegal. I called him to complain because I felt discriminated against. I pretty much feel like I was kicked out and refused service because I have a disability. I remember this restaurant when it started out as a stand and I was a loyal customer then. I recently moved back to ktown and went to try the place again and this is how we were treated, it's a shame how an establishment grows and they treat their customers and people this way. The aji Verde was ok this spot imo (In my opinion) cannot compare to "El dorado Pollos a La Brasa" in Pasadena now that spot has the flavor and mesquite on the chicken done right. You come here for the chicken. The wood-fired, smokey, tender, juicy, and delicious chicken. Was it the best chicken that I've had in Los Angeles? Probably not. But it was very satisfying, deserving of its top-tier rating, and made our longish trek to K-town worthwhile. We called ahead and were told that it'd be at least an hour before our two 1/2 chicken meals would be ready. So I was surprised to find that the place wasn't busy when we arrived. My new place is walking distance from Pollo and now, it's become a bi-weekly staple of our meals. They are constantly roasting chicken and it's got this just right charred skin. I always call ahead because after 4:30PM, they're just so packed with orders. And even when you call ahead, it's usually 45 - 60 mins before it's ready. The cilantro chile sauce that they give you, the spicy green Aji sauce perfectly compliments the chicken. I used to only order half a chicken but after the first time he had it, S said we had to order a whole chicken every time because he couldn't stop eating it. Funnily enough, our cat also goes crazy when she smells the chicken. She probably will also say that it's her favorite chicken as well.
