This place has a lot of yummy, interesting food going on for a cheap eats sort of place. I loved seeing all the unusual items on the menu. I got a falafel sandwich and it was delicious! You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients. The service was a little weird (one waitress kept going out with food, then heading back to the kitchen, puzzled, before coming out again) but polite. My only caveat is that when the place is packed, it is DEAFENING. Really bad acoustics. But the food is delish. I wish we had a middle eastern place like that in Cambridge. read more

Some of the best food in the valley. Their lunch and dinner are amazing, but brunch is quite the disappointment. The Moroccan Green/Mint Tea is incredible! I never drink tea and hate hot beverages in general, but after trying the tea, I'm a devout fan. No other place in the valley can replicate it either. The tagine chicken is by far my favorite meal here, but the Shawerma and babaghannoush sandwiches are excellent as well. Breakfast is quite a dissapointment all around, and I'm not sure why people recommend it here. Noho lacks great breakfast spots in general, but the green bean up the street is a good choice. The small dining space makes for a crowded meal, but service is quick and polite. Skip breakfast here, but definitely worth visiting for a great lunch or dinner. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, and I love tagine cooking, it really does hold a lot subtle flavors. I'm vegetarian and find tasty main courses is always a bit of challenge. The moussaka was excellent can't wait to go back and try the vegetarian kabab. read more

I give five stars for the Tagine menu items. I have not tried all items. However, once, on a visit to Northampton, I ate here 3 times in one day. This is a restaurant first for me, that I have not repeated anywhere since.)) Very good flavors and reasonable prices. The Tagine is wonderful if you like the temperature to be hot. Heard that this Moroccan place was good so we wanted to give it a try while we were in the area. It was a Saturday night so it took us a while to find parking but eventually we were able to find one on the other side of the street with meters (yay!). If you can't find parking after 10 minutes then try the inexpensive parking lots that are around the corner. It is a pretty small cozy place and we didn't know that it was a place that we order at the counter and then seat ourselves - but we were fine with that. We seated ourselves and looked around on all the walls which had nice mediterranean style items for sale (like large pottery bowls and such). We ordered charboiled trout and couscous with lamb. It was good, but not amazing like we thought it would be. We liked the trout better than the couscous. The one thing I loved was when in the middle of our dinner, they passed out these small glasses of hot moroccan tea with mint leaves for free to all of the customers. Amanouz Cafe is a very casual, hole-in-the-wall eatery that serves very good food at very reasonable prices. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu choices are exhaustive. They have plates upon plates of small decadent sweets all over the counter where you put in your order. Temptation will most likely be greater than your will power because like me, you'll probably purchase a sweet or two. I had the Shawerma sandwich which was very tasty. Thin marinated slices of lamb and beef, broiled tomatoes, parsley, onions, lettuce and tahini sauce in thin lavash pita style bread. A little messy but very satisfying. I also ordered the Moroccan green tea with fresh mint leaves which they serve with a small silver tea pot and a cute little Moroccan tea glass. Recommended by another Yelper and I second the recommendation. As our larger group was finishing up our meal, we didn't get much of a chance to hang out at our table as stuffed inside this tiny space was a line of about 6 people giving us dirty stares because they wanted our seats. I give this 3 stars because the food is great. The prices are very reasonable. Food comes out quick and fresh. Minus one star because of the inability to sit after our meal and converse with friends. This is not a place where you can relax over your meal. It's meant for quick in and out eating. Like a McDonald's. They want you in and out quick. Minus one star for the super-rude group of people hovering inside the door and giving us nasty stares while we finished our dinner. I wish the management would boot them outside. It was very uncomfortable and I didn't feel particularly welcome to enjoy my food. read more

Its all about the food here--which is simple, homey and nurturing. Wonderful aromas pour out of the open kitchen, and you're rewarded with a very casual, surprisingly good meal. Also this place really has something for omnivores and veg-folk alike. Everything I've tried is delicious--tagines, couscous, roasted fish, falafel, hummus--and their mint tea is a treat. We found Amanouz Cafe via Yelp, & we're glad we did! We sat down at a table, & one of the staff came over to give us menus & tell us we had to order up front. Without Yelp, though, we wouldn't have known about getting our own silverware, drinks, etc. We were there for dinner, & parking was scarce; after circling around downtown for a while, we lucked into a spot behind the courthouse about 2 blocks away. The tabbouleh was fabulous, as was the lentil soup--I'd love to have that recipe. We also had hummus & a couple of other dishes. Tables--not so clean...but the food made up for it. We finished off with a crepe with Nutella...yum. We'd go again if we lived there! read more

I didn't have super high expectations for this place since Northampton isn't exactly known to me as a bastion of ethnic cuisine. However, the food was more than satisfactory (although not particularly special) and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We ordered the couscous with chicken and the shwarma sandwich. The couscous with chicken came with many vegetables, which was great, though there wasn't that much chicken on the bones. The flavor was neither overbearing nor lacking. I was a little more disappointed with the shwarma, which tasted a bit too much like a taco salad with pita. It also fell apart pretty easily. We also ordered the nas nas and the mint tea for drinks. They were bothokay, though I'm not the biggest fan of milk in my coffee and the nas nas was half milk and not-very-strong espresso (ordered it just to try it). Do yourself a favor and get a tagine. Kefka tagine is so absolutely delicious, and I wouldn't lie when I say I am generally bothered by the form of the sausage. Maybe it's the plastic phallic nature. I have had to update this review because of the last year at Amanouz. Amanouz has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Northampton, but they are really suffering lately in a couple of areas. They are cutting corners, presumably to save costs, and it is making the dishes a little absurd. The salmon kebab with couscous and vegetables, one of my favorite dishes, used to come with 5-6 nicely sized cubes of salmon for $12.95. The price of the kabob has now increased to $13.95, which is perfectly reasonable, except that yesterday it came with 3 small cubes of salmon. Mostly, it is couscous with some vegetables, and then 3 small cubes of salmon. This is unfortunately totally unacceptable as a way to retain longtime customers -- and I am a very, very longtime customer. Also, while the guys working in the kitchen are fantastic and have been working at Amanouz for a long time, the people at the register who take your order are a rotating cast of incompetent characters with absolutely no sense of urgency in terms of long lines forming as they casually and slowly take and process each order, oftentimes passively-aggressively abandoning the register altogether to drink their tea as the line continues to grow. Amanouz has been one of my top restaurants for more than a decade, but the experiences over the last year have been disappointing. read more

First, the good news. The food couldn't be better. It's the service about which I need to complain. My friend and I ordered separately. His food came in a reasonable length of time. I waited another 15 minutes, but no food so I went to complain. The girl at the counter apologized and assured me it would be right out. Nope. Another 10 minutes passed so I went back. I was in the process of getting my money back when approached by a man who seemed to be the boss. He was not nice, happy, apologetic, or helpful. Said my food would be right out in 15 more minutes. I was visiting from out of state and was merely looking for some decent food to eat, but very pleasantly surprised when the selection and food proved to be spectacular!! I mean really exceptional. The lamb tangine was cooked and delivered in the traditional tangine, with an indescribably delicious combination of melded flavors that literally caused me to groan with pleasure. The lamb was covered w potatoes, sweet peppers, olives tomato, over couscous. The atmosphere is quite casual - you order at a counter for example, but the food is mind blowingly good. How I love this place! The food is wonderful. The prices are great. The food isn't too salty nor too garlicky... it is just right. The place is a bit tight because it is a little restaurant and crowded but worth the wait. The food is fresh, tastes like home cooked if I could cook Mediterranean food and just lovely. Amazingly delicious! The Moroccan salad was very fresh with crisp fresh greens and veggies and a tasty vinaigrette. Lentil soup tasted like it was made from scratch and the lamb tagine was succulent, soft meat on the bone with a delicious sauce of authentic spices. Very, very impressive during the Covid crisis. Their beef and lamb shawarma is easily on par with those I've had in Israel and NYC. I have no idea how they flavor it but it is fantastic. This is not place to get a sit down meal but you would be hard pressed to find a better value in downtown Northampton. Their flaky, sweet, buttery walnut baklava makes my mouth water just thinking about it And the sweet mint tea was so refreshing! read more

I love the food here but avoid the wine. I believe they keep too close to higher temperatures which might explain that the different wines I tried were bad. I do highly recommend it for quick dining. When the weather is good it's a treat to dine on the sidewalk where they have seating. read more

I love this place! Last time I was up from New York this was the first place I stopped. There was a couple outside debating coming inside and they asked if I like the place. I told them it was my first stop. As I was on my way out they thanked me for not steering them wrong. Last time I just wanted a quick Dolma (grape leaves). MMMM, so fresh! It's served with just a little bit of salad and Tabouli. For dessert I always get a pistachio baklava and a Turkish coffee. Breakfast is also always great. The potatoes... I don't even know what they do to these spuds, but they are unlike any home-fries my momma ever made. read more

This is probably the only restaurant in Northampton that would be worth going to if it were in New York. Atmosphere is nothing special -- it's a better place to come for a quick dinner before heading somewhere else, or by yourself with a book, than to linger with friends -- but the food would be good at double the price. As it is, it's amazing. My personal favorite is the tagine with merguez, plus mint tea (They do have wine and beer, but it's not really that kind of place.) I love Amanouz because: late breakfast on a weekday morning is tasty and relaxing, you likely can get a seat in the window and read, and take out for lunch because I work downtown is generous portions and amazing food and the pots of tea are cool looking and delicious, it never fails to impress out-of-towners for any meal and everyone is nice. Affordable prices and well worth it for what you get. I would eat dinner here more but I be poor. And yeah, maybe not a lingering kind of place, but that's cool by me - there are things to be done. read more

I've never had such dry, or disappointing food. I had the Shwarma sandwich and a piece of baklava; the sandwich had more lettuce and tomato (huge chunks), than meat, and it almost felt more like a salad that had too much dressing. The meat did not taste right (or like anything for that matter), and the pita was SO dry that it was falling apart and I couldn't put any of the other food on it. The baklava was the most disappointing of all, and not just because it is usually one of my favorite foods of all time. Perhaps it was just not a fresh batch, but it was not flaky, or as moist as i've had elsewhere. So again, another food item was dry.. I wish I had waited until I got back home for winter break to have some, even if it was an 'old' batch, that really is no excuse. If it doesn't sell, make less, but at least make them fresh. read more

I had the Tagine Casablanca, my friend had a salmon dish, I forget what it was called. The Tagine was delicious, the chicken was falling off the bone, the sauce was rich and flavorful, sweet and savory. My only complaint about it was there were so many onions, it was onion-a-rama. I wanted to sop up the sauce with the bread but I got pretty sick of the mushy and unavoidable onions. The salmon was fresh and full of flavor. Atmosphere was comfortable and chill. I'm not too familiar with Moroccan food so I can't speak to the authenticity, but I enjoyed all the rich flavors and look forward to sampling more dishes in the future. read more

I've been to Morocco, and I make Bastilla and baklava at home. Thus I am pretty judgmental about Moroccan cuisine. We had shawarma sandwich, humus, Bastilla and 2 types of cookies. All were solid renditions. Though it wasn't clear from the chalkboard sign, the Bastilla came with a salad which made me happy because that is so Moroccan. It was well dressed with lots of veggie variety. Portions are large on all dishes. read more
