This rating is based on food and service. Lemon ginger margarita Shrimp cocktail Bone marrow I really wanted to like this place as I've never had Peruvian. It's small, bright and well decorated. I started with a Lemon Ginger Margarita which looked good on paper but was a bit tart for my taste. I ordered a shrimp cocktail which was okay. I would have liked more chunky stuff and not finely diced veg but maybe that's how they do it in Peru. One of the seasonal dishes was Bone Marrow which I love. It came with three corn tortillas to which I added cheese. One of the pieces of bone marrow was pretty good. The other two weren't quite done. The fat wasn't spreadable nor tasty. One had spots of cold as I got to the bone which wasn't appealing at all. The woman who took my order never appeared again. Eventually a man came to clear my table. Since my credit card was out, he asked if I wanted the check. Then from the time my ticket was printed and my credit card was run was almost 20 minutes. Seriously? Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But based on this experience and the prices, I won't be back. But don't let my review keep you from visiting. Your experience may be totally different. read more

This was an amazing find! I was in Cabo this past weekend and ate Mexican food for 3 days. This place was way better than most of the places in cabo. The 3 bone marrows, elote, and octopus tacos were delicious. I wish I had more people with me so I could try more of their food. I will be back on my next business trip to El Paso. Every time I am in El Paso, I stop at Amar for their Arroz Chauffa. Well maybe twice every time I am in town. The food and their cocktails are delicious. The service is impeccable and they truly care about your experience and that you return. Lastly, the atmosphere is great, comfy seats, good music playing and the outdoor seating is great on a cooler day. The food was amazing but unfortunately I have to knock off a star for service. Our server was out of site for extended periods of time, rude and felt impatient that we were leisurely dining and conversing. We shared a number of small plates and felt she was pressuring us to order entrees when we really just don't dine like that. We ordered the jailea, ceviche, taillarin saltado, empanadas and the tres leches maracuya. To drink we also had chicha morada, pisco sour and amor en Miraflores. I had the Peruvian classic, Papa Rellena which was prepared and presented absolutely perfectly. I had never had it before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Their menu is nicely done with descriptions and images to accompany each dish. I ordered a mocktail, Pina Colada- they rimmed the glass with sweet coconut cream and coconut. Unreal!!!! It was the best Pina Colada I've ever had. The service was incredible and the vibe of this place was stellar. Visiting El Paso for a friend's birthday celebration and decided to stop by Amar for lunch. It was a Saturday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet and I quickly found a seat at the bar. The food and drink were phenomenal! I started with the grilled elote which had the perfect amount of char and flavor, and enjoyed the Lomo Saltado. This place is gorgeous. The service is very attentive. The lomo saltado is perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned nicely. I loved the tuna Nikkei too. The cooked pear is lovely. So my first time here. My group came for lunch and those who plan to visit, it is a very small place so you may have to wait for a table. They do have outdoor seating which is covered so it works. I am only going to speak about what I ordered and tasted. We tried the shrimp and cheese empanadas. They really needed help. In the photo it shows a more so hollow filling. I was expecting a good amount of cheese but barely any. The shrimp was tiny ones. Wouldn't order them again. I ordered the fish tacos. Nothing wow about it BUT they are generous with the fish which is great! They are good. You can ask order them grilled. The one gripe I had was that the tortillas would break really easy which made it really messy. What I would order next time was the Camarón Pasión! My co-worker ordered them. Came in super hungry. My partner and I were sat and nobody attended to us. Very disappointed because everybody was looking our direction. We got up and walked away. Super upset at the service and they didn't say bye or anything when we walked out. The employees were very rude towards us, they proceeded to serve everyone in the 10 minutes we were there. The tomatoes were so juicy it was my favorite part of the dish haha 2. Arroz Chaufa Mixto - 7.5/10. Loved the seasoning of the rice! The texture of the rice was also so chewy which is how i like my fried rice dishes!! It was also packedd with chicken, steak, and shrimp which i really appreciated 3. I heard great things about this place, but still went in with no expectations. Ambience is unique and pretty. Unfortunately, I don't think my husband and I will be back. The food was good, wouldn't say it was sensational. What really turned us off was the service... there was a constant switch off of waiters that were assigned to our table, no explanation given and even then, it was only to hand off food and drinks (which took a while to come out and we were noticing tables around us getting their food and drinks before us that were sat down after us). Went here with my husband and my parents who were visiting from Missouri. We sat on the patio, which was quite nice and comfortable, especially with the misters on. We split a shrimp cocktail 4 ways, which was delicious. The shrimp were huge and juicy. We noticed the cocktail was not very spicy, but this was the first time we have had Peruvian food, so I suspect it's a regional difference. It was still flavorful with almost a sweetness to it. Excellent with avocado slices! My dad tried the fish tacos which were loaded with delicious crispy fish. My mom had the camarones pasion, which were crispy and wonderful with the dip. Only complaint was there were WAY too many French fries - we barely touched them! My husband tried the arroz chaufa mixto, and he had plenty left over to bring home. I was tempted to tey the lemon meringue margarita but $15 seemed WAY too steep. Best pasta in El Paso! Huancaina Truffle Pasta tastes like Mac N Cheese but it doesnt overwhelm after a few bites like mac n cheese. Its just the right amount of cheesy and savory.
