CREDIT CARD WARNING! I just had to share this with everyone. The charge to my credit card from this visit took a while to post. I did not notice at first. Usually, my bank will slow down processing credit card transactions when something triggers fraudulent activity. When I did my monthly bill relook, I noticed that the math was not mathing between the receipt that was brought to my table, and the final receipt that was given to me by the cashier. The final bill at the cashier added $1.38 to it. Most of us don't pay attention to what is going on with small amounts like that. The reason why I was able to figure out the difference is because I always photograph the 'table receipt' out of habit, just in case. Well, snapping that photo paid off this time. I don't know what went on with the credit card charge that Carnitas Tio Juan sent to my bank, but it begs the question of whether some questionable charge was attempted on my card. Upon arrival, unique restaurant. We sat quickly and our server took our order. Open restaurant environment. Pleasent and friendly. I ordered a Michilada and got a beer with extra lime served in a margaritas glass. We'll, that is what Texas does. We ordered our food which came out fast. Basic flavors; nothing to brag about. Decided to try Carnitas Tio Juan after the 4th of July weekend with my sister from San Antonio and my wife. Food quality poor and service poor. Sides were stale factory made tortilla chips, watered down salsa and watered down sour cream. By the time the condiments that were requested with our order arrived, my tacos were cold. I don't live in the Northeast, but when I am in the Northeast, I have found my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the northeast!! We asked the waiter what type of enchiladas he recommended and he said shrimp enchiladas we looked at each other and thought we've never heard of such a concoction, but OMG they were so good. The tortillas are homemade, and the poblano Crema sauce that was on top was so different and yummy and it's like where has this been all my life . I didn't experiment as much as my boyfriend I got the Straight Flautas and they were delicious. I just wish I could've finished them or taking them home so my top recommendation would be sauce on the side if you don't want to eat them all and enjoy them for another day because I would've totally brought them home . The restaurant is in a re-purposed building on Dyer and it's clean and fun! We went at 4 o'clock on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy. My wife heard of this place through a friend so she decided to bring me here for lunch. Appetizer-ceviche was NOT it. They used key limes which have A very bitter taste compared to regular limes and I didn't care for the difference too much. It gave the entire meal an extremely sour/bitter taste. Will not order again. I ordered the carnitas plate which had beans and rice as well. Beans were not very well flavored so I didn't eat them, the rice was just ok. Menudo Sunday. Different restaurant every time. Tio Juan's turn. Easy access off very busy streets. 4 of us standing, waiting for host to finish telling some very amusing story to a couple of waiters. We're standing by 3 empty window booths. Waiter says to follow him to diff part of restaurant. I say we'd like to sit here. He says, no, they are doing sections today, we have to sit elsewhere. I insist. They confer,finally allow us to sit. We order. Large menudo for 3, small menudo for my wife. (Not a memudo fan). My wife changes her mind, tels waitress to bring Different, more expensive breakfast. Waitress goes away, returns with original order, 3 large, 1 small menudo. Says "the order already in the system and can't be changed". She is holding the small bowl, says "would we like to speak with manager?" YES. She goes away, comes back with queen Kong, still holding the small menudo. Manager Kong says nothing to be done, they will bring the new ordered plate, but we still have to pay for the canceled menudo, My wife doesn't want a scene, (I'm ready to clear the table). My wife says she'll take the small menudo to go. Not a pleasant experience. The menudo itself was a 7 out of 10. Plenty of good heat, but watery. Posole and tripe could've been more tender. The Huevos Rancheros had me on FUEGO. To me, that is how it should be. The Mexican Coffee was delightful and the chips and salsa were fresh - I love those warm chips! The tortillas are made right there in the corner - which is fun to watch for the littles. In the afternoon they provide you with some fideo soup: so delicioso! Came here for breakfast on a Saturday and Wow it was delicious. We were seated right away (actually allowed to select our own table). We got our piping HOT coffee right away. My parents ordered the Menudo with fresh made tortillas. And I ordered a breakfast plate that came with meat and eggs and tortillas. It was super delicious, also came with beans. The service was friendly, fast, and delicious. The meals all looked delicious and I would love to come here more often (but i am not from El Paso). Thought this restaurant looked cute from the outside so decided to go eat, we got seated fairly fast but our waitress took forever to attend us. Once we got attended I ordered chriqueso for our appetizer, it was pretty good but our tortilla were cold. I also ordered the tortilla soup and I was very disappointed :( it taste like chicken with water and avocado (the avocado wasn't good either) ALSO not to mention it was cold! Stopped in for my first visiting during lunch hours. Service was very fast. I had 3 plates on my table before I was even half way done with the chips basket. Great deal for lunch specials. All plates are 6.99 and come with soup and rice pudding for dessert. I ordered chili con queso for an app and the the crispy taco plate for lunch. Beware that the Queso is not a DIP queso as the traditional stringy cheese kind you cut with a fork. Tasted great, but wasn't what I was craving. The taco plate was good but nothing special. This is definitely a hidden gem in the NE. I'm giving it 3 stars because today we ordered seafood (Campechana) cóctel (seafood medley shrimp cocktail) and tostadas de ceviche. Although the tostadas were good the coctel left something to be desired. They are a Mexican restaurant and their Mexican food is quite delicious and has never disappointed; I definitely don't think they should venture into shrimp cocktails by any means. They should probably remove the cocktails from their menu because the ceviche was quite yummy. Their service is great given the current Covid time and their dining room is open, although their hours are until 9 or earlier if they die down. read more

Without a doubt, the worst service in El Paso Tx. If are from out of town,as I am, I highly recommend you stay clear of the establishment. We saw 4 tables ( which got there after us) get there orders before us. I would understand the difference in serving time if we had ordered something that required additional cook time. The fact was that we ordered menudo and caldo de res both of which are pre cooked and only required warming. It took 25 minutes from ordering time to getting it to our table. The caldo de res was horrific with beef chunks 2x4 inches big and harder whale blubber. The staff is so busy giving each other hugs a high fives that the customers are left unattended. The food was okay, nothing amazing but the real reason for such a low review is the staff. The woman running the cash register was rude from the moment we entered the restaurant. When we went to pay and began telling her how the check should be split she interrupted and quickly spat out "I just need to know what to put on your check" which is exactly what we had been telling her. The staff alone deserves zero stars and I would never recommend or consider going there, even if it was just for take out. Nothing is worth having to interact with the rude employees here. read more

Let's be honest... the only good things about this restaurant are the chips and salsa and, if you're into that sort of thing, the size of the tortillas. If that's all you're looking for on $10 avg per person, then come on in! Otherwise, service was poor, our steak was tough, the chile relleno was way too eggy, the chicken enchiladas were dry and both red and green enchilada sauces tasted canned--overly generic and sweet. Perhaps other things on the menu are better (I won't be back to find out) but if you insist on eating here, my suggestion would be to steer clear of the following menu items: Enchiladas - dry chicken, sweet sauce Tampiqueña steak- tough and dry Chile relleno- overly eggy Shrimp plates- small in size Flan- store bought? The food is usually pretty good. Sometimes it's just "Meh..." especially if you order it for take away. It'll cure a craving. I use to love this place. So maybe I just hit them up on bad days.
