I really loved this resort! Sadly my boyfriend and I only stayed a night but I would gladly return to stay for longer. The staff were welcoming and explained everything to a T. Our room had a partial ocean view and it could've been an ocean view at that point it was great. The room was spacious with a good bathroom and a balcony. Even though there were stairs walking to the ocean it still felt like a beach and there was a swimming area. The pool was great with a tiki bar for drinks! There were also lots of games to play in the yard. One thing I do wish was that the tiki bar was open later than 9 pm on weeknights! This is still peoples vacations so they may want to stay up later like weekends. read more

We were here for a BIG planned event and had a block of rooms. The resort is lovely. The staff was lovely. My group of friends had 4 rooms. Two of the rooms were upgraded ones. They were all TERRIBLE!! 1. Insufficient lighting in room with one existing not working. Had to open drapes to see anything INSIDE room. 2. One bar of soap, none for showering. 3. TV's all sucked - zero volume control including mute. Useless to watch. 4. PHONES DO NOT WORK INSIDE OUR ROOMS!! We could not contact anyone at resort. Had to call an 800 # and you get someone offsite who can't really help you. Basically none of us felt safe at your resort in our rooms!!! This was my 2nd stay here and my last (the 1st had same issues - I'm the fool). There is a $40 resort fee added on each night - for NOTHING! There are many options in Islamorada, don't be fooled and waste your money at Amara Cay Resort!! read more

Wanted to take the family to Key West. We found this resort via the web and figured why not. We had read that Islamorada was more family friendly than Key West itself. I find that to be true. The room is clean and the AC functioned. All are must haves for me. There is also a microwave and fridge in each room which is an added bonus. Our microwave was not working but I didn't really have a need for it so no loss there. Some of the pros to being here is the pool which is salt and heated which was really nice. Guests have access to bikes, kayaks and paddle boards which I didn't use but good to know they are there. However there isn't much that is worth biking to in my opinion. We basically had the place to ourselves for the majority of the week. Business picked up and the Thursday before we left but I don't know if that's because of COVID or the time of year. There is an on-site place to eat that I did not try but it's there and has decent reviews from Yelp. A few negatives. The staff were present but that's about it. They seemed indifferent as to whether I was there or not. They complied with requested items such as towels or water bottles but very meh service. A smile wouldn't hurt in my opinion but hey that's just me. The "beach" is a slight disappointment but that's also Key West due to the reefs surrounding it. If you want a beach go to Pensacola or Miami I suppose. My bedding was fine. My wife complained that her mattress had zero support. Sheets were clean but I left my black light at home..... Overall if I had it to do over I would probably stay at a Air BnB type place so that I could save some money. For the price of staying here. I was taken aback by some of the prices honestly but I can't necessarily hold that on anyone but myself for not completing research prior. read more

Are partial view was good we didn't today to get the great view but was happy considering the amount of time we spend in the room. Visited two of the other three resorts and they seems run down and the staff was not friendly. No complaints about this one. Other then the pool music was awful! I'm not even sure what kind of music it was. The bar staff told us they hated it too but it was corporate and they couldn't change it. The resort is clean, and the rooms are spacious. We had a partial ocean view room and it was gorgeous. I personally don't think the higher expense for a "ocean view" room is worth it especially when you really don't spend much time in the room. The pool is beautiful and clean. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. They made some amazing recommendations for dinner outside the resort as well as their favorite dishes at the resort. Recommend the blackened fish tacos and the chicken nachos. Drinks were good, but at times it was hard to get waited on at the tiki bar by the pool. Don't believe the amenity that shows "beach access". It is sand on concrete that drops off into water that has collected seaweed, dirt, grass, and smells of sulfur. There is no swimming beach at the resort. It is pretty to look at and peaceful at night with the various seating options, just don't expect any crashing waves and swimming. Location is close to many great restaurants and activities. The road and neighboring resort were both under construction which was distracting and inconvenient. On our first day there they were cutting down bushes and trees on the resort with loud equipment, but that only lasted a day. We enjoyed our stay, but I doubt we would stay again. Breakfast should be free, not an expensive charge for a basic breakfast. Over $5.00 for a cup of black coffee is stupid, especially when you pay a $40 resort fee daily. At least give a cup of coffee! I expect to pay $15 per alcoholic drink, so that wasn't shocking to me and the drinks were not watered down, so I enjoyed them. You have to get to the pool early to get an umbrella (people save seats and don't come out for hours which is annoying). The food is good, but nothing outstanding. The lack of true beach access is the downside to me. It is also first come first serve for kayaks or paddle boards. I wish you could schedule for them to ensure you get to enjoy them while visiting. I feel as a first time person staying at the resort, it wasn't what we were expecting. read more

Love this place. It's so beautiful. Next time I definitely want an ocean view room. My room is beautiful but the first floor facing games. There was a drip from the bathrooms roof. The staff is amazing specifically Sophia Baker who greeted us and was an amazing host during registration and after. She is one of the best I've seen in making you feel welcome and at home. Then we have Nicanor Stlvain an all around do it all that had the party shuttle bus at our disposal and took care of every need offering a smile and a party atmosphere that made your heart smile. Service has gone downhill. we stayed here and 2019 and had a great experience. just got back from there (11/26-28/2022) and we were disappointed: 1. Didn't have the room we booked. Tried to give us a queen bed. We declined so they gave us a downgraded room/view that still had a king. But didn't refund us the difference. 2. womens Bathrooms in lobby were unkempt. 3. TV in room didn't work (couldn't watch big football games or news in between our ventures). We asked them to fix this but they didn't. 4. Housekeepers were loud in the am, talking /laughing/slamming doors in halls Overall, it just didn't feel like the staff did much to ensure we had a great experience. The pool was beautiful and pool bar/staff were great. But for one of the "upscale" resorts in islamorada-and what we paid ($500+/night) there are probably better values in the area now. read more

Nice resort, but minimal housekeeping. Patio bar has good food, but one bartender is exceptionally rude. They don't do much to accommodate their guests. Shuttle was not available as promised. Management doesn't listen to the guests, we were told go to one of their other properties to avoid the rude bartender. Highly recommended this hotel. No need to drive all the way down to Key West. Islamorada has so much to offer. This hotel is a true example of that. Stay at the hotel includes a free breakfast in the morning. Not a Continental breakfast, but pick whatever you want from the menu. Very good choices and attentive wait staff. Friendly staff, clean rooms, great pool and sand area. Close to great restaurants, boating charters, local breweries. Rooms are modern, upscale, and spacious. Very nice change from most of the old rundown hotels in the area. Looks like they are planning to remodel pool area and expand the hotel in the near future. The Good: The hotel is like a big Pinterest advertisement. Uniquely repurposed items that made the ambiance comfortable. The Bad: The resort fee. 30 dollars a day. Wouldn't be an issue if I hadn't noticed 50-60 % of the resort run out the side gate hop in their cars and leave. None of which had a resort bracelet on. I've commented on food service in a separate reelburger post. Avoid if possible. We left the room at 8:00am and returned at 2 to find our room wasn't clean. I went to another floor. Dropped of dirty towels and grabbed new ones. Took out my own garbage and asked to take TP. After 3 trips to this cart I didn't get acknowledged but the staff and it was quite evident I was cleaning my own room. Needed an escape from covid madness for 2 days so I searched Yelp for days till deciding on this resort. I live in Florida so it was only a 3 hour drive. The place was really nice. The rooms were very pretty and very clean. I felt safe. They clean the room and seal the door with a sticker saying it was sanitized. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. We were asked about special requests and they met all of them. The grounds were beautiful and such a nice big pool. Lots of parking too. I'm really looking forward to my next stay. read more

We stayed here back in June and loved it so much we went back and stayed this week with family and friends. This hotel is supper clean, check in staff is nice . The views are nice and they have free amenities. They were very central and everything was honestly great. My friends and family also loved the vibe here and their rooms. When the front desk guy heard we were all together he immediately asked if we wanted to be on the same floor so we'd be closer to each other & in June when we stayed the guy found out it was our anniversary and went above and beyond to make our stay better. Oh and lastly, i left my fitbit charging wheb we checked out, the front desk guy ran to my room to find it and kept it in the front with him so i could go pick up the next day... Overall I really enjoyed this resort. Great pool, tiki bar, restaurant, private beach and free kayak/paddle board/bike rentals. Also had free yoga classes while I was there! We got a room upgrade being Amex cardholders, but the room ended up being my one complaint. The 2 queen beds were not queens and were in dire need of new mattresses. There is virtually no lighting in either the main room or bathroom-we were constantly fumbling around in the dark. The AC works well but is incredibly loud. The floor could use carpeting or a rug to help with the tracking in of sand. Every time we got into bed we had to dust off our feet. Housekeeping really only comes if you ask. That being said, I would probably stay here again for the resort amenities, I just wish they would do something about the rooms. read more

I was in Florida, mostly in the Fort Lauderdale area for a work trip, but wanted to stay an extra night to visit the Keys and picked this resort for that night. Let's start with the good. This place has a very positive paradise vibe from the amenities to the decor. Rooms have a modern and tropical feel, and I was very happy entering my room with a balcony overseeing the courtyard and ocean. So first impressions were amazing, but that's when it started going down hill. Some of the benefits of this "resort" over a typical hotel was the available paddle boards, kayaks, and bikes free to use for guests. However, with how windy it was during my stay, they refused to provide paddle boards or kayaks. Which are the only things I would have wanted to use. Biking on the busy road (only road down to Key West) was in no way appealing to me. So that was the first big let down. The second, although you get a nice ocean view, I wouldn't call the water area an actual beach. I wanted a typical sandy beach, which this definitely wasn't. Most of the people were just lounging in chairs or in the swimming pool, with no one really in the ocean. So for a "beach resort", this was another disappointment. But I think the biggest disappointment was after spending my only full day on the resort and getting ready to head back to bed for a good night's sleep before my flight back home, I was shocked by how thin the walls were. I could clearly hear my neighbors next door as if they were in the same room with me. And unfortunately it was a whole family of at least 4 people yelling at each other at late hours of the evening. This was too much for me and my fiance to handle, so we kindly requested to get a new room. The receptionist at the time seemed bothered with our request and was not understanding at all. Although she did give us a new room, it was a downgrade to a standard with no balcony or epic view like the previous room. A huge let down, but I would've gotten over the standard room if the receptionist was a bit kinder. So overall, probably would not come back to this place nor would I recommend it. What I thought would be a nice paradise vacation turned out to be a big disappointment. read more

August 2017: We were in Islamorada for fishing. I did not love this hotel. I'm okay with paying for luxury, but the amenities and customer service here are lacking. I've had better amenities and customer service at budget hotels like La Quinta. I was excited to stay here cause of pics I found from tags on Insta and Yelp reviews about the new remodel. I don't know why the remodel is a big deal. I found the hotel vibe to be very cold. I know it's supposed to be sleek and cool, but it looks cheap to me. I don't know how they make their Insta look so nice. It definitely doesn't live up in person. I know all the beaches here are manmade but make an effort. I was laying by the water and they hadn't brushed or raked the pebbles/sand properly, so I could see the concrete. Way to kill the illusion of a beach vaca. The only 2 things I liked about outside were giant Jenga and the oversized hammocks. The mandatory resort fee is $28. It basically got me a beach towel and wi-fi. For real. This fee is daily. Eyeroll. I didn't find any of the staff to be warm or welcoming. I mean the check in counter itself is so small and uninviting. It looks like a car valet stand. Our room: the bathroom was so tight and the fridge didn't work. They came to fix it and their repair didn't work. And I was over it so we just kept our drinks in ice buckets. I would never stay here, again. If I had a time machine, I would have tried Cheeca, or Googled if there is a La Quinta. read more

This resort is taking all safety precautions. All employees are wearing masks, and guests until you get to your destination. The resort is clean, and employees are sanitizing. The pool is Amazing and the Tiki Hut has fantastic drinks and food. It was nice to be able to swim, and charge drinks and food right to the room, It was very reasonable and convenient, The only thing I didn't like was the walls were thin so when upstairs came into their room and started playing "Sweet Caroline" I could sing along with them. What a beautiful and fabulous place to stay! My family of four-myself, husband and two young boys, had the best experience here from start to finish! The hotel was absolutely beautiful and clean. The lobby had such fun hanging chairs, a chalk board to play a game on the wall, gorgeous decor and tables and an awesome lounge! My husband and I spent each night we were on our trip their at the "Coastal Lounge" with the most beautiful soul bartender Justina! She made THE best drinks, but her attention and service were incredible. Every staff member we encountered were truly friendly and showed so much care. The front desk young ladies were super helpful and kind. They printed out business paperwork to help me. The pool was beautiful, the bar staff at the pool was great as well. This was our first time visiting this hotel. We have been coming to the Keys for over 25 years, and this is going to be our "go to" place from now on. They have such a fun outdoor area with beautiful lights strung and fire pits. There is soft turf grass with ping pong tables, corn hole and a few other lawn games. The kids had so much fun while my husband and I enjoyed cocktails around the fire. We love this place! Make sure you go to the lounge inside and ask Justina to make you her famous Coco Delight drink! read more

The Good: Beautifully renovated pool, bar & restaurant area, spacious sundeck with gaming area, and inviting beach layout with hammocks in the palm tree shade. The rooms were cozy and offers a mini kitchenette area to make yourself at home. Includes a small fridge and microwave next to a sink to meet your needs as well as a bar height table with some stools to make yourself comfortable. A free shuttle service is offered most of the day and provides relatable and safe transportation to a possibly unfamiliar area. The hotel staff and very friendly and helpful to the best of their training. The Bad: Inconsistency. Breakfast until 10, 11, 11:30? Many staff offered different answers as well as the outdoor bar-- opens at 11:30, 12:00, 13:00? Free shuttle-- runs until 22, 23, 24:00? Again, there wasn't any consistency from weekdays or the weekend with no signage. Ambiance. The rooms are a little confused. It's somewhere between modern and Craigslist. Not all of the furniture styles or colors were consistent and there were different style light bulbs from LED to CFL, to lighting that doesn't look aesthetically pleasing and is harsh. It looked well renovated for space but rushed for decor and furniture. Security. Anyone can walk into the hotel and come to your room. There needs to be keycard restricted access-- especially at night where side door parking lot entrances are left unmonitored. The most disappointing overall experience was the presence of non-resort guests. It was apparent that many of the mid-to-late 20 year old guests were friends with the staff and were obviously local to the area as they discussed relatable occupations. There was even a discussion with an actual hotel guest saying "Yes, we know the bartender and come here all the time." They were loud and obnoxious and even brought in outside beverages that made the "resort fee" paid seem a bit taxing since we weren't sure what it pays for. We wanted the same relaxing and peaceful experience that the hotel offered on their website and description. To further slap the burn, the music was also a free playlist from Pandora, often playing commercials, that would often pause if not refreshed. We had the pleasure of meeting a newly hired General Manager that was extremely inviting and responsive. We hope this person can view this experience and help improve any overall experience. There needs to be some management intervention and consistently with this resort. It was extremely discouraging to have paid for an experience that others enjoyed for free. Sadly, we won't be coming back or offering a recommendation unless some obvious change is made. read more

Clean and bed is pretty comfortable. The bathroom could use more lighting and ours flooded which the mgr said because we had a wheelchair access. Not sure why a person in a wheelchair would want a shower that flooded every time you use it either (???) The pool bar was fun & served up some good drinks! My only suggestion would be to add some vegan options to the menu, but other than that I can't recommend this resort enough!! The pool & beach are beautiful with all updated adorable chairs, hammocks, and umbrellas. They have free paddle boards & kayaks for rent..and guess what?! They're also dog friendly!! The grounds around the hotel and inside were beautiful our oceanfront room was big and bed comfortable. The only thing was that the pull out double sofa was ok there was a small stain on mattress and didn't look comfortable so just slept on couch You can see some wear and tear in bathroom but it was fine We ate breakfast one morning and service was great and next day was slower and not so great. Could have been an off day that day or short handed. The pool was fine but kids enjoyed it The other reviews have said they never saw anyone cleaning it. So hopefully they do but my kids enjoyed it and they enjoyed the games they had on this lawn area. Overall we had a great time read more

A top notch place for truly relaxing and being catered too. Right on the water with plenty of amenities. We really enjoyed the fire pits under the stars at night, corn hole, jenga game, ping pong. We sat at the bar first to sample some of CALEB (the bartender) libations and listen to the live entertainment. Caleb is a wonderful, charming, and fun person to chat with as he's making our martinis. His knowledge of different brands of bourbon was impressive. His tiramisu martini was amazing. Drinks run around $16 a piece, which is pretty pricey, fortunately we were only in Islamorada a few days, only broke the bank a little. Haha Now the food...... the cauliflower bites were so good. They were not breaded, just a light touch to hold on the flavor. The chicken Caesar was good, a nice portion. The quesadillas was messy but good. Everything was very nice. Would we come back?? Amara Cay was the worst place to have our wedding at. They screwed up virtually every single detail, weren't available to discuss, fix or improve anything they messed up - worst of all - no apologies or attempts to remedy any of it. They messed up the dates we were supposed to stay there, gave us the wrong room even after numerous guarantees to make sure we had the right room. Overcharged for our block of rooms we set aside, outright lied about what rooms we could use and for what purposes, and that they only had one event per weekend. Andra Hammet in particular told this, among many other outright lies. She also messed up our arrangement for the reception, didn't have the beach cleared for our rehearsal, mislead us regarding the food for the reception and was magically unavailable any time we tried to call her. She also refused to allow us a food tasting for the event "due to covid", however when we showed up to sign our contract, she was literally too busy doing a tasting for another group. The GM, Lauren Clevenger basically told us tough luck when we brought all the issues to her attention. Not to mention the front desk staff whom was rude, the kayak rental attendants who yelled at guests asking to leave their shoes onshore, the bartenders who were seemingly drunk and couldn't fill drink or food orders, or - the brunch we spent thousands on for Friday that was missing agreed to items and also set up incorrectly. This was a sh&t show from start to finish. This wasn't an isolated incident, if you see a reply down below its BS as they have already replied telling us to basically too bad, thanks for spending $40k with us. Amara Cay is no resort either. It's a churched up holiday inn. No spa, no real restaurant, snappy old small rooms, and horrid customer service form the top all the way down. Andrea Hammet (in charge of events) and GM Lauren Clevenger are both awful in the career roles, with no care for their customers basic happiness. If you can't do what you agree to, or we pay for - don't agree to it then. Oh! Andrea also told us we could use sparklers as a send off as long as it wasn't near the tiki. That was also a lie. We are currently considering legal actions for fraud as well. This was abhorrent.. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting the Keys for a wedding, and we decided to come down early as an extended vacation. He had found this hotel online, through Travelocity, and when we first pulled up, we were impressed with how pretty it was. It is right on the water, with access through a boat ramp that is used for the SUPs and kayaks. We were able to check in early with no issues, and we were given cards for the room and towel rentals. Everything was beautiful inside, with a modern, beach vibe throughout the hotel and amenities. They had luggage carts that assisted with carrying our luggage and clothes up to the room. There is a daily resort fee, so keep that in mind while you are booking Travelocity, since they are not included in that price. Our room was gorgeous, with whites, blues, and tans, and it included a sofa, desk and chair, TV, and a spacious bathroom. The only complaint is that we were booked next door to a family with a baby, so that baby decided to start crying and screaming at 4:30 am one morning, and the parents didn't seem to take into consideration that other people would be sleeping when they woke up later and started talking and knocking around around 7:30 am. We had a few kids running up and down the hallways making racket, which blows my mind since this was not a cheap hotel, more of a resort. Anyways, the rest of the visit was relaxing, with a spacious pool to sit out by and a bar to order fruity drinks from. There were chairs and hammocks by the water, as well as a volleyball court, cornhole, pool table, Foosball, and giant Jenga. More like the 3 1/2 the star guide is sitting on when I write this. Additionally, this is still in CoVid world. The hotel. I won't go as far as 'resort'. A resort implies destination. This was a place we stated while we went elsewhere exploring. Back in the car... It was a very nice clean hotel in a non-beach location. Yes I would stay again. The crystal clear salt-water pool almost makes up for no beach. Not having a beach is not their fault though. Thank Flagler who had that part of the island rocked in for his overseas railway more than 100 years ago. Apparently most tourists at this island are here for sport-fishing or diving not beach-combing. From a fourth floor balcony it looked tropical enough. Especially when I looked up from my paper to be staring eye to eye with a 2 1/2 ft long iguana at the top of the adjacent palm tree. The staff couldn't have been nicer (I love you, Sophie!) BUT housekeeping is not available at this time for the duration of your stay. Oddly, pool towels are issued and collected at the front desk with a plastic card you were issued at sign-in. Don't lose it! The restaurant is also shut-down for Covid staffing but is still serving at the "tiki hut". But the menu is still the Keys equivalent of bar food. OK, but not dinner. This place is phenomenal. With a feel so serene as soon as you walk in. The decor is absolutely beautiful and more upscale. I loved everything about this resort. Check in is so simple and quick and all amenities included went above and beyond. The staff are all on point and there's so much to do right on site. Location is also perfect as your close to other hotels,restaurants, gas stations, convenient and liquor stores and Morada Bay. The hotel has a beautiful pool, water features, a jacuzzi, snack and pool bar, outdoor seating, and there own private beach access which has a beautiful pier, a playground for the kiddos, seating and two hammocks to relax in. It's truly just breathtaking, I was really relaxed. Our room was spacious and modern and came with plenty of towels, two robes, and toiletries if needed. We had a beautiful view over looking the pool and beach. I was very pleaaed with everything. I have to say somethimg about the bed, pure comfort and that's alot coming from me because I have sleeping problems, trust me though you'll sleep like a baby. They also have two restaurants at the hotel and free wifi. There's a gift shop that has cute dresses, other clothing, great gifts and nice jewelry. I'm telling you this place is a one stop, everything you need is onsite. The only thing their working on now is the gym which should be accessible soon. I must say my whole experience was just fantastic and we've already made plans to return when it's officially summer since we didn't get to enjoy all the amenities since it was cold. Avoid this place at all cost. Never seen so much incompetence and lack of respect for its guests. The lady at the front desk named Dolores should be fired. From the front desk to the general manager the lack of professionalism is a systemic problem in this hotel. Will never be back. If you call the front desk it will ring endlessly and nobody will answer. Worst hotel experience ever! read more
