We recently stayed at Baker's Cay Resort Key Largo, part of the Hilton collection, over winter…read morebreak. As Hilton Gold members, we were fortunate to receive a small room upgrade at booking, which we definitely appreciated. Let me start with the highlights the resort amenities are wonderful, especially for families. There were plenty of complimentary activities for kids during the day, and even fun nighttime events like dancing that were adorable and well thought out. It truly felt family-friendly, and there was always something going on to keep everyone entertained. The cutest was Santa pics with cookies and milk! The staff was attentive and kind throughout our stay, and honestly, that goes a long way. Great service can elevate an entire experience, and they really delivered on that front. That said, at nearly $1,000 per night during peak season, I did expect the facilities and rooms to be in better condition. The property has so much potential, but parts of it felt a bit rundown for the price point. The rooms could use some attention and deeper cleaning. I completely understand that this is a beachfront resort and sand is inevitable however we noticed quite a bit of sand throughout the room, even on the bed when it had been freshly made. I've stayed at other beach resorts where housekeeping was a bit more thorough in that regard. However nothing crazy but cleanliness is big in my book. One morning, there was also a cockroach at the coffee cart. My husband reported it right away to the front desk. The next few mornings the cart wasn't out, and I'm assuming they were addressing the situation, which I appreciate but it was still a bit off-putting. The on-site restaurants were good not extraordinary, but enjoyable and I felt the pricing there was fair considering it's a resort property. Overall, we had a great experience. The resort has incredible potential, and with a little more attention to upkeep especially considering the premium nightly rate it could easily be a five-star stay. The friendly staff and activities made a big difference.

And don't forget the tax man as he is expensive as well. We had coffee from the coffee truck in the lobby and for a regular coffee and a latte it was $21 with the fees. 2 drinks at the pool was $42 with the fees and 2 apps from the bar last night was $50 with a $5 tip. Total rip off for what you get. We have stayed at Hiltons in 16 countries including the Grand Wailea Maui and have never seen these types of numbers. 10+ years as a Diamond with Hilton and this is a shameful experience. It would be different if the rooms made up for it but they are no better than a redone drive up motel as it is noisy all night long with halls open to the parking lot.

The Bungalows felt like a piece of Paradise. When you first…read morearrive, you are greeted by valet staff. Parking is free if you brought a car. We chose to rent and drive from the airport because we had a trip to Key West planned. It's about a 90 minute drive from the airport so, an Uber would have been pretty costly. The valet takes care of your luggage and places it on a golf cart while you check in. The check in process took about 10 min. The front desk staff wasn't super friendly but they weren't rude either. They are supposed to offer you a drink, but we were not offered one by our receptionist while the couple next to us were offered one. No biggie. One thing to note: when you book, 50% is due. Then the other 50% is due thirty days prior to your arrival if you switch your source of payment, they charge you 10%. That same card has do be used for gratuity or add ons. Keep this in mind when you plan. Also, they put a $100/day hold on your card when you check in. After check in, the valet takes you on a tour of the property and then brings you to your room. You'll want to have cash for gratuity for the valet. The Bungalows themselves are gorgeous and offer an outdoor area and outdoor shower. I don't think the beach view bungalows are worth the upgrade. After that, you're on your own for the most part. They schedule your dinner, but other than Bogie and Bacall, they are pretty flexible. Fish Tales is the main restaurant. They offer a four course meal. The food was great. I wouldn't say "amazing" but really well done. The service is impeccable. This is an all inclusive bur gratuity isn't included. This was annoying and probably my biggest complaint. At the end of your meal you are handed a check of all you consumed with a recommend range of gratuity. You put in what you want to leave and sign it and leave. The issue is, it's hard to keep track of how much you're spending. So if you're on a budget, that can be a problem. At night everyone gathers around the tiki bar to enjoy the entertainment. There is only one bad and it fills quickly. The bartenders are also filling drink orders for the pool, and in some situations, Sea Seniors next door. You can also order food at the tiki bar if you choose. It's basic bar food and pizza but quite delicious. There is live entertainment daily from 11-11. There was trivia one night, and karaoke another. But there were no real events offered. In the mornings everyone heads to Fishtales for breakfast. There is a good variety of choices, including a buffet. They do not change it up at all though. So it can get a little boring day after day. They also have a mimosa and bloody Mary self serve bar. Pro tip, bring your own yeti and take two plastic cups of minosa and some ice and put them in your yeti for the pool. There are no drinks served until 11 am at the pool which was pretty odd in my opinion. The tiki bar also doesn't open until 11. It was off season but I will say that the pool didn't really get busy. There are two pools. Ok is a zen pool with little cabana beds. It's more quiet there but the main pool was described as the party pool and he was really chill too. There are about 12 pairs of lounge chairs and umbrellas and two big cabanas with couches. It didn't seem like there would be enough but it ended up to be plenty. We w They have servers come around the pool but it takes quite a bit to get your drinks so pack your patience. They also give you a bill at the end with what you ordered and suggested gratuity. It was easy to forget and just leave so I hated this process. I would have rather been charged a daily gratuity to be split between the staff but that's not what they want to do. Bogie and Bacalls: you get a free night there if you stay for more than 4 days. If you don't it's $300 plus gratuity. This was their high end restaurant and it wand spectacular! You get a ton of food and premium drinks. Expect to tip about $100 here. There is an indoor bar/speakeasy called Hemingways. This is not included in your stay. It's premium cocktails and liquor. There is also the "Family Room" which is a giant indoor/outdoor game room. There are no servers there. If you have a yeti, you could grab a few drinks from the tiki bar and keep it cold. There is a huge TV so we were able to watch the USA game on it with a few other guests. I chose to get a massage. It's a beautiful area of the park but there's no way that 50 min massage was worth $300 + 22% gratuity. They offer water activities. No one was using them. There are some other ads ons but very few guests chose to do them. Overall this is a wonderful, very chill spot and I can see why many guest come back year after year. I wish there were more dining and bar options, and more events offered. The cost was pretty high for what they offer. But we had an amazing time and I'm so glad we did it!

Friendly, hilarious, lightning-fast, and somehow knew exactly what we wanted before we did. Is she psychic? Possibly. There is only 1 bartender at the large bar at the pool/beach, with like ~40 chairs, as well as servers bringing drinks to the hundreds of folks on the beach. The servers literally yelling at the bartender to hurry up while everyone at the bar is fighting for his attention. Time to get a drink ~40 minutes. At the front desk, they have 2 employees helping with lines of 10+ people waiting for help. All phone calls to guest services and the concierge are ignored, as they explained, because they are too busy. The restaurants are also too busy to pick up the phone, so after being on hold for 30 mins, we walked over to make a reservation. When we arrived for dinner, they had lost the reservation and told us we should have called...despite then admitting they aren't picking up the phone because its too busy. They told us they couldn't seat us or otherwise help us, and to go somewhere else for food. Which seemed rude and unnecessary. Overall, the staff seem really stressed and need some support. Come on Marriot, please hire a few folks to help run this beautiful property.

    - Disappointing Stay, Misleading Photos, Poor Response from Management…read more My wife and I stayed in the La Palma Suite for her birthday getaway. We chose this property based on the photographs shown online and the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Unfortunately, our actual experience was very different. The biggest issue was that the room we received did not reflect the condition portrayed in the photos. While it appears the property may have been renovated years ago, much of what we found showed significant wear and deferred maintenance. Some of the issues we encountered included: * A bed that creaked loudly with virtually any movement, making it difficult to sleep. * Shower water that never became truly hot and had very low water pressure. * Mold or mildew buildup visible beneath the sink rim and inside the sink overflow opening. * Rust and corrosion on bathroom fixtures. * Upholstered furniture that was stained, worn, and damaged. * A closet door that would not properly close because it was off track. * Exterior areas that looked noticeably different from the photographs used in advertising. * General cleanliness and maintenance concerns throughout the suite. After reporting the bed issue, management acknowledged the problem and offered to move us to another room with a new mattress. We packed our belongings and prepared to move. However, before the move could occur, the replacement room was reassigned to another guest. We were later informed that because we had not responded quickly enough, the room was no longer available. What disappointed me most was not simply the condition of the room, but the lack of meaningful resolution after management recognized there was a problem. Once a room change was offered, I believe it should have been held until direct contact was made with the guest. To be fair, my wife and I still enjoyed our time in the Florida Keys and had a wonderful birthday celebration. The location is beautiful. However, the accommodations themselves did not meet the expectations created by the property's marketing photographs, and management's handling of the situation left us disappointed. I encourage future guests to look carefully at recent traveler photos and ask questions about the current condition of the specific room they are booking before making a reservation.

Location - The hotel is right off of Interstate 1 and in the middle of Key Largo. You are just down the road from a Publix, shopping center, and a number of restaurants. John Pennecamp State Park is really close as well. Rooms & Building - The hotel is going for a retro tropical tiki vibe. It is probably not for everyone but I digged it. Rooms are spacious and offer the typical Hampton Inn layout. The grounds were not like typical Hamptons though, well manicured and full of beautiful tropical plants. This location had a much more Hilton resort vibe without the resort price. Amenities - The hotel had a small beach area that overlooked the ocean. You can borrow kayaks to take out on the water but it was so windy the day we were there, you would have no luck getting anywhere (we watched a poor couple try to no avail). There is a pool with a pool bar but everything was so cold, it was closed and the pool was somewhat uncomfortable to swim due to the temps and wind, so we passed. Food - Pool bar was closed but we did enjoy the free breakfast buffet. Typical Hampton Inn offerings including make your own waffles, eggs, breakfast meat and an assortment of continental offerings. My kids loved that there was a ton of toppings (including key lime syrup!) available for the waffles, we made some pretty crazy combos. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - It was more than what I normally would pay for a Hampton Inn at $240 a night but the Keys are spendy during tourist season. Too bad it was so cold it didn't feel much like it! Oh well, our MN luck. Weather aside, the property was nice and it would have been cool to utilize the water sports and water area. On a nicer day, I feel like these would be great bonuses to the property and added value to the stay. If I'm back in Key Largo, I'll give this place another view.

Stayed in the Conch Villa as part of a pretty large wedding event. The first impression when…read moredriving into the place was, "What could possibly be back here that is going to work for a wedding?" However, the answer to that was surprisingly great. The villas have separate rooms with common areas and the one I was in had three bedrooms. The bedroom situation was similar to a hotel room. A nice comfortable bed, a private bathroom, generous closet space, and - most importantly - a good stable temperature even with the thermostat being out in the hall. A ceiling fan helps with circulation, which is great too. The only real downside I can think of is that two of the bedrooms are on the second floor, and you need to take this into account with your luggage as there are no elevators. Well, that and the fact that the finish of the stairs blend into the floor at the bottom so if you are older this might make for a physical perception problem as well. Anyway... Parking is a little tight when the place is full, but the location worked out really well for the wedding ceremony. Out on the point you can see the sunset across the water in the evening. Manatees frequent the dock which are a sight to behold. Across the dock there was a nice flat area on hard sand that was perfect for the reception. Yes, there are water activities including dolphin interactions across the boarder from what are the villas, but I can't make any comment on that part since I didn't manage to even visit over there.
