I had a great experience here. I knew about it because my gym used to be across the street and the outside of it was so unique. Sadly I got into a car accident and decided to take it there for repairs. The vibe is really cool when you first walk in, very art deco and cute. More importantly, my car came back good as new. It took a really long time IMO but it was b/c I drive a Land Rover and the parts were on back order so nothing on Amato's. They were as communicative as needed and had great follow through. I hope I don't get into any more car accidents for the rest of my life, but if I do I'll happily bring it back to them. read more

I was repeatedly assured that the estimate for my vehicle would be emailed to me the same day I took it in. I've called repeatedly and no estimate. It's now Thursday afternoon and I still have nothing. The lack of communication and failure to follow through on the promised timeline has been frustrating. I trusted the information I was given. I really liked Amato's at first. But be sure to check your itemized bill. $50 to put my Tesla in service mode--I could have done it in 5 seconds myself in the parking lot. $75 to delete my data from the car--again, if I cared, I could have done it in 5 seconds in the parking lot. $350 to drain the battery before total loss transport (by GEICO, not even by them)--they said this was Tesla policy, but I looked it up: that's only necessary with specific battery damage that my car didn't have. read more

We had our Audi repaired here last year and they held the car hostage for TWO MONTHS! They kept telling us that they were waiting for a specific piece to come in. They stopped answering our calls and eventually we had to just go in to ask about our car. Once we got the car back, we found out that somehow even though they were only working on front panel, they somehow severed the windshield washer fluid line and we had to take the car to the dealership to get it fixed. read more

I requested a quote to get a paint touch up on my car's spare tire. I called and they instructed me to send in pictures which I did the same day. I called four separate times over the course of 2 weeks to follow up to which they said they needed to send the pictures to the estimator and that I would hear back by end of business that day. I never heard back from them that day despite being told I would. I eventually received the quote and it was for a brand new tire cover + labor to paint it. I had asked for a quote to touch up the paint on the existing tire cover. I responded and asked this question once I received the quote and never heard back. Pretty bizarre experience when I am trying to give them business. read more

Avoid this place. Poor communication, service and quality of repairs - my car was better and safer before coming here and I would question the validity of their Tesla certification I went in for repairs on rear quarter panel, wheel and bumper. The 3.5wk repair took 5wks bc they accidentally broke my rear pano window and had to replace and retint (all of which I doubt they would've told me if I didn't keep asking AND I still have yet to get the paperwork + warranty details on). Anyways, after getting my car back, I had to drive back right away bc I noticed a loose panel in the car while driving. While replacing that panel, I noticed another loose panel, then another, etc - at least 3 panels ended up needing to be replaced bc the clips were all broken and the panels didn't sit right, fell off completely, and/or posed a safety hazard bc it was over an airbag. I ended up leaving after 4+hrs bc I was hungry and exhausted, but sincerely concerned about the safety of the car bc I have babies. Fast forward, I find so many other issues, from a loose door hinge, to loose wires, poorly installed molding, poorly installed tint, pinholes in the paint, exposed metal surfaces, scratched trim, airleak, etc I won't list everything, but let's just say I can't believe they're a Tesla certified shop. I've reached out to them with my concerns, and even after claiming to have the parts, they just left me waiting 3+wks and counting. I may have to just go back to my insurance to fix their mess. Went for an estimate on my car. I thought the damage would be about 1500-2500$. They took pictures of the car. Never touched or examined it closely. Sent me an email with an estimate for $6400. I took same car to another auto body repair and they gave me an estimate for $1750. When I explained I had an estimate from Amatos they looked at the car again. They were stumped as to why such a large over priced estimate was given to me. I had the $1750 estimate work done and was back driving in 5 days. Car looks amazing. Amatos wanted to keep the car for 3 weeks. It was scratches on a hood with no dents. Won't go back to Amatos. Encourage others to trust their gut on an estimate. If it seems too high it is too high. Go elsewhere. And when I questioned it they blew me off. read more

We dropped our Lucid Air off at Amato's on April 22, 2025 for a tail light replacement which had a crack in it. We were told it would take 48 hours only because the light had been ordered and had arrived. The initial quote was $4490.51 There was no body damage. The work was completed and we picked up the car on May 19, 2025. That's almost a month later. The final bill for the tail light replacement was $8975.14. The price of the tail light assembly from Lucid Motors was $3200. We were told that they broke a part during disassembly which required more time in the shop and painting. $475.00 for the paint. Not the labor. They charged everything to our insurance company. The car was nicely washed. read more

They give you appointment, when you arrive, they ask you to come back next day! They have a very long delay ( wait time) to complete the work. I took my car there for a small repair, after 4 weeks and multiple times contacting them, went to get it. My car had a new damage in their shop. I was shocked ! They denied it. Although they got a big fat check from my insurance they were asking me personally to pay for the small damage that happened in their shop! They are very pricey. It's clear that this place is undergoing growing pains since Paul A. sold the business. I have taken my Merc E550 twice to them within the last 6 months due to two separate unrelated incidents that required the entire aluminum hood be replaced. The first experience with the service advisor was terrible: impossible to get a hold of, would not return calls, car was not ready when promised, leaving me to take extra trips up to Sorrento Valley from downtown, only to drive home empty handed. Things that could be easily remedied with a simple phone call. During the first pick-up, the hood was installed incorrectly, leaving an uneven gap. During the second pick-up date, the front bumper was scratched by another car in their lot, requiring the entire bumper be repainted, but they did make it right, with me just having to accept an additional delay. The second experience with service advisor Zane was absolutely fantastic! He kept me in the loop every step of the way, going above and beyond expectations. Installation was spot on. Overall, I've taken 3 cars to Amato's four times within the last 2 years, and one thing is clear: the quality of the repairs is absolutely perfect. They are expensive and do take longer than most shops but if you have the patience and time, I would not recommend any other place in San Diego. read more

I live downtown and picked Amato over one of their downtown competitors which was my insurance chosen shop. I could not have been happier with the results. Zane provided excellent service and always returned my calls promptly. Also unlike the competition, there was no unrealistic push to make a decision. I was able to schedule Enterprise Mira Mesa and they picked me up and upon returning with my rental to pick up my car, Amato arranged to have the car dropped off. Amato's does great work; they are a boutique auto body shop that spares no expense to get your car's body back to factory standards. Unfortunately, they are criminally slow, and their administration doesn't communicate well. I've had my Tesla M3 in twice, but I'll seek others in the future. The first time I needed body work on my Tesla, Amato's was the only shop in Yelp with good Tesla reviews, and Tesla didn't show any approved shops south of Orange County. As an amature autobody guy in my youth, I thought that they would pound out the dents, add filler, tape around the windows, paint, and call it a day. No, no, no, that's not the way they do it there. They ordered all new body parts, and removed every - single - part - that paint overspray could touch. The result was a flawless job; though it took four weeks to achieve it. Thank goodness that insurance covered it, because it cost a small fortune. The second time I took my Tesla to Amato's I noticed that there were a few Tesla approved shops. I wasn't thrilled about taking it to Amato's because it took so long the first time and they weren't very good at keeping me informed. However, the damage was minor and they reported that they had all the parts in stock. How long could it take? It took them six weeks. Six weeks of driving my expensive ICE car. Then, I had to take it back in because they didn't repair everything. While Amato's does great work, they require too much of my time, they are very expensive, and compared to other body shops I've dealt with, they don't communicate effectively. I'll go elsewhere next time (though I hope there isn't a next time!). read more

Not even a week after I picked up my Tesla Model 3, I experienced a hit-and-run while my Sentry Mode was disabled. The damage wasn't major (see pics below), but it was still incredibly disheartening to have my brand new car damaged so soon and at no fault of my own. I was referred to Amato's by a Tesla customer service rep who said they were one of the few auto shops in my area that was certified to work on Tesla vehicles. I gave them a call right away and from my first phone interaction, I knew this company was different--in a good way. I explained my situation to the female agent over the phone and she was so empathetic and really took the time to get all the necessary information to set up the earliest available appointment. On the day of my appointment, a gentleman resembling Jude Law assisted me. He took my car to the back and after no more than 20 minutes had passed, returned it as good as new! I was shocked. It was such a short encounter I had with them, but the most pleasant one. If I were to ever experience another accident (*knock on wood* that I don't), I know exactly who to trust my car with. read more

I'm pretty thrilled with Amato's repair of our Model X back bumper repair, as well as the repair of our Model 3 front bumper repair (NOT involved in the same accident!) Renee Sanchez was wonderful from the start to finish of the entire repair process. I appreciated Amato going through the other party's insurance for me. There was also a seamless process in getting the Enterprise car rental. My cars also required a wrap, which they assisted with as well - when I got my cars back, they looked better than new! All in all, I am very happy with the excellent work that Amato's has done on both my Teslas, and the communication throughout was superb. Yes the work got done. The frustrating part is the customer has to keep calling to get updates. I didn't turn my car over to them until the parts were ordered and delivered so I figured the turn around would be quick. But about 2 weeks in with no updates, I called and the word I got was my car supposedly needed another "purely cosmetic" part. Carlos said otherwise the car is complete and once this last part comes in, it only takes 20 minutes to put on the car. He said he just spoke with Land Rover and it should be 1-2 days for the part to come in..fast forward 11 days with no call, I decided it was an appropriate time to get an update. At this point they have had my car for 28 days. I called earlier in the morning and spoke with a woman at the front desk who said Carlos wasn't in the office but she said she was looking through my notes and they were currently waiting on now 2 parts. It went from one part to two and now I have no idea what the other part could be for. She said "Carlos said he spoke with Land Rover this morning and your parts should be here tomorrow." (I thought he wasn't in the office so when did he tell you that??) Anyway they exceeded the estimated time of completion and I kept getting "it'll be here tomorrow" for another week until it finally did arrive. I don't mind it taking a while as long as I'm kept in the loop and not given the "it'll be here tomorrow" line. Transparency through the process would've been nice. My car was with them for 35 days. I'll go elsewhere if there is a next time (hopefully won't be a next time though) read more

I have never written a bad review in my life, but feel obligated to warn people not to bring their car to Amato's. I brought my Audi in on January 2nd, I was told it would take 2-3 weeks to order parts and 2-3 weeks for the repair work. I received no updates or phone calls regarding the parts for my car, I called 6x and emailed with no return call from Jesse. Finally after 6 weeks when I called I was told the parts for my car had arrived and I could book an appointment for another 2 weeks out. When I finally brought my car in I was told after the 1 week I would be able to get an updated time table for how long it would take to fix my vehicle, I never received that information, it took 9 weeks and I would often receive the same update and misleading information regarding the completion of my car. For the last three weeks I received the same update each week that my car was complete only for it to not actually be completed. I called Audi to ask why they would recommend this shop and they told me they no longer recommend this Amato's this is a poorly run shop, communication is completely unprofessional, no accountability, absolutely horrific experience. read more
