I've dined in and have ordered take out at least a half dozen times and their food is immaculate. The food alone should have earned this restaurant an easy 5/5 rating. I order the same dishes and each time they are consistently fantastic. I order the Chicken Korma and Chicken Palak both medium spice. The curries are very flavorful and fresh with plenty of chicken. Each dish comes with rice and I of course order several naans alongside. I haven't eaten at every Indian restaurant in WNY, but the dozen (maybe more) or so I've tried in my lifetime don't even compare. I would confidently recommend this place to anyone, but based on other reviews I would specify the dishes that I have firsthand experience with. The reason for the one star removal is related to the servers. There's a language barrier in regards to the young female server. She struggles to answer simple questions and usually seeks out help, making you wary of her answers. But she's innocent and she alone doesn't effect the rating. There is another server who is male and probably in his 50s. The first time we met I had a take out order, and while I waited, we sprung up a conversation and he proudly proclaimed he was the owner and we had a pleasant conversation because he had apparently just taken over recently. However, this "owner" does not remotely resemble the photo of the gentlemen who has been replying to these posts nor is his name Rahul. On another visit, he was tending the bar and I was dining in. I remembered him vividly and our conversation; I asked him immediately, "are you a server?" He immediately replied "yes" and began to make small talk. It was evident he was indeed the waiter/server. I don't know what's going on with this place in regards to their personnel, but seems wacky. Either way, you're going for the food so you can rest assure you'll be in for a treat. read more

I really, REALLY wanted to like this place since it's right by my house, and I often crave Indian takeout on Friday nights. (I used to live next door to an Indian place, and it was our I'm-too-tired-to-cook-or-even-have-a-date-night-on-Fridays place.) But the dishes were all watery and tasteless. I had to add tomato paste to my vegetable makhani and my husband's muttar paneer in order for them to even be palatable. At least the roti was good? Fwiw, my friend's mom loves this place, so maybe quality is hit or miss. I'd like to go and try a buffet sometime to see if the food is better in the restaurant than takeout. We had our reservations about this place as the first time we tried to call in an order during the pandemic, the person left us on hold on the phone by placing the phone down and walking away, which meant we couldn't even call back. Our friends however really recommended this spot and made reservations on a Saturday night. The inside is actually really nicely decorated with white table cloth and a really good size bar. The server was very nice and was so ready to recommend us dishes based on our flavor preferences. We got a few dishes to share which included the chicken momos, amaya bombay bhel, garlic naan, saag paneer and the lamb dum biryani. Everything was soooo good!! The chicken momos were spiced so well and the chicken was so full of flavor with a mix of savory, sweet and spicy-ness. The amaya bombay bhel was my favorite dish of the day. I've never had anything like this before. It comprises of puffed rice, veggies and coated with a tamarind chutney. The rice was crunchy and the herb and veggies added such herby flavors. The tang from the chutney is fantastic. It was a surprisingly large portion for a small plate but it was also very light! The saag paneer was very well done. The savory-ness of it was great and it paired very well with the naan we got. It's a great dish to dip! The dumb biryani was very delicious. I was disappointed that it was not served in a clay pot as advertised. It was served on a regular plate. But I guess it doesn't matter in the end because it was a fantastic dish. The rice was spiced very well and so fragrant. The lamb was tender and there was a lot of it! I am very glad we visited Amaya and it's so close to my house! We will be back for sure! read more

We went to Amaya for dinner on Friday night. It was late, but they cleaned and sanitized a table for us and got us seated. They have an expansive menu of great dishes, so choosing one entree was tough. My wife is a vegetarian, and they had tons of choices for her, and the choices were endless for a carnivore like me. My wife got the saag paneer, and I got the chicken biryani. Our entrees were excellent, and the garlic naan was the best we've ever had. The service was great, they were very attentive but didn't hover. This place is a real gem, and we'll be back soon. read more

December 2022: I have started meal (tiffin) services from them. They make healthy and affordable meals. The nutrition content is good. 2019: I was there for Saturday's South Indian thali special. The newly reopened lunch buffet needs improvement . Raita was frozen. Fresh raita not here. Several empty chafing dishes on the tables. If they are empty, why are they on the buffet? Canned pineapple? Why? Hot fresh naan brought to our table was the best of the buffet today. Entrees were just ok. Seasoning was just ok. Warm food, not hot. No tea or juice included in the Buffett. Friends and I had dinner here over this past weekend. There were 5 of us and we called to see if we should make a reservation and were told definitely. We planned for 5:30 pm because we all had plans after. We arrived a couple min early and there was one couple dining and otherwise the place was empty. I don't understand it because the food here is so good! We were immediately seated and ordered lassis all around - mango and strawberry. They were excellent. For mains we shared 4 dishes plus got 3 orders of naan: --Lamb Palak - lamb in a spinach sauce; one of the most delicious lamb dishes I've ever had - filled with big chunks of really tender meat, seasoned well and a big portion --Amaya Shrimp Dab - shrimp in a coconut sauce - amazing and unique with flavors I had never had before --Navratan Korma (had this before - super yum) --Chicken Tikka - exactly what we expected, tasty and seasoned well Service was great, we were all totally stuffed, and we had lots of left overs! And when the waitress boxed up what was left she offered us more rice, so we actually took home enough for multiple additional meals. Total bill for the 5 of us with the drinks, mains and naan was $98 before taxes/tip, so just under $20 pp. Still find this a bit high, but food quality and service are excellent and the overall dining experience is really more like 'fine dining'. I had a great time. My friend and I were celebrating her birthday with dinner and I found a groupon for this place for a hefty $45 voucher (I only paid $32.00). For starters, the decor of the place was definitely astonishing. From the outside of the restuarant you would have never guessed that It looked so good on the inside. Beautiful bar, a nice chandelier, and a very spacious array of tables and booths. Our server seemed a bit timid at first, but she was VERY polite and super nice. She greeted us with a warm smile everytime she approached the table and took great care of us. Now for the food. We both ordered the Chicken Curry. Now I'm a Jamaican man and my friend a Puerto Rican woman. We love our spicy food. So when the waitress asked us if we wanted "mild medium or spicy", you know we went with spicy. Indian spices are said to be some of the hottest in the world. We get the curry, and the "spicy" is average at best. It's the kind of spicy where you wont cough, but if you eat too fast you'll get heartburn with those heavy beats that make your chest jump. Nonetheless the food was AMAZING. One of the best place to have authentic Indian food. Love the Ambience of the place. The food is amazing here. You have a lot of options available and they do prepare the dishes according to your taste. The meal is served hot and fresh. I opted for a non vegetarian thali which was tummy filling. It was heavenly. Loved the crispy hot naan. Probably one of the best naans I have ever had. The chicken was good too. The service is pretty good and it's easy to locate. I'm sorry but this is not Indian food. I have this place two tries. I tried both A la carte on a weekday for dinner and the weekend lunch buffet. In a la carte - Masala dosa - the dosa as such is fine but chutney and sambhar are very important for it. The coconut chutney is sweet as sugar. That's unacceptable. The sambhar is nothing but red water. Tasteless and bland. Chicken Vindaloo - it tasted like they frozen curry reheated in microwave. Plus they didn't give us rice with it as they didn't have anymore rice. Indian restaurant where they didn't have rice for a curry. Weekend lunch buffet was just as bad. The number of items are very few compared to the other Indian restaurants in Rochester and the taste was below par. Every dish was bland and nothing felt fresh. Service - For the buffet, we just had to pile up the plates on the congested table and no waiter cleared it until the end and what's worse is they charged 18% tips in the bill without our consent for this pathetic service. As we arrived we were greeted from a distance and was told to sit wherever. When we sat down a fruit fly emerged from the wall as it appeared to have sticky residue on it. The space and ambiance were very underwhelming and ultimately not very welcome. We got cans of soda and bottled water, interesting but fine. It says to me laziness is present and dishes do not want to be washed. The manager was very nice. Our waiter was extremely kind. While we were sitting waiting for our food fruit flys were swarming us. They tried to say it was because two tables down a couple had wine. When the fruit fly's were already flying around before that table was even sat. The bathroom scenario was a bit weird. The food was okay not much flavor and the naan was nothing special, very bland. We asked to bring the food home as fruit fly's were landing in our hair and on our food. We let them know about the fruit flys and they brought over two fruity smelling candles; Which only made the situation worse. When the manager brought over the to go dishes and foil for the naan he put the foil down and placed his entire hand on the foil. I do not want to put my food on something where someone has put their unwashed hand. It was expensive and not worth it. The manager said sorry and he hopes we will come back. As if we would come back to a place swarming us with fruit fly's and the manager is being unsanitary not practicing proper serving etiquette. We brought the food home and threw it away. If the dining area is unsanitary then I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Many other better places. read more

The only thing I did not like was with the Samosas I only received the green sauce and I'm used to getting both the green and the brown sauce . Gobi Chili Chaat fried cauliflower, and veg momos were as good as they were the last time. The service was friendly. Bhindi Kurkuri fried okra, was well seasoned and crisp. I think upon chewing a bit of okra slipperiness was evident. Potato stuffed naan was like mashed potatoes smeared inside naan Baghare Baigen eggplant, the sauce was very nutty feeling but not very nutty tasting. There were 4 small eggplants in. Surprised. Surprised that this Indian restaurant is unlike the others in town... no typical Indian decor, no copper serving dishes, no Indian music, nor mainly Indian staff. And yet the food is very Indian and very good. Over the years this location has been a number of Indian restaurants but this is the first time we ate at Amaya. The Groupon (or Living Social, I forget) deal got us in the door. It was refreshing to see that someone dared to try a different approach to Indian in Rochester. The place was very lively and quite full on this January Friday night. They had live music by Deborah - she was not playing Indian tunes but classic lounge songs (which was kinda funny) and the decor was upscale with a full bar. We ordered a big Godfather beer (it's Indian not Italian!) We started with a bowl of Mulligatawny soup which was very flavorful, though it could have been hotter (thermally) - we'd get it again. We ordered a couple of our go-to Indian dishes - Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Tika Masala. Both were very good and the sauce on the TM was excellent. Nice and creamy. The garlic Nan was sufficiently garlicky. Our server was very friendly and generally attentive. When there was an error with our bill he corrected immediately. We will definitely be back. read more

This was my first time trying Indian food... safe to say I love it now! This place was amazing. We got samosas they were fantastic! The chicken momo was good as well. The chicken curry and chicken tiki masala were on point. They were the perfect spice we asked for. We got the original and garlic naan it was very light and fluffy. I would suggest trying the chai tea as well; one of the better chai teas I've had. The service was amazing! The wait staff was so attentive and very helpful. We tried Amaya on a Groupon last week. Food was fresh and we got help from a waiter to dial in what we wanted. My wife and I eat Indian but were unfamiliar with some of these dishes. We had Chicken Dab and Tika Masala. Both were served hot and fresh. The rice was perfectly cooked. The place was clean and well managed. People checked on us, but we felt like it was perfect. The appetizer of Chili cauliflower was sweet and had just enough heat. Naan was nicely done was well. All in all very good. I like a busy place with on site management, clean with hit and fresh food. We shared the lamb Rogan Josh which was tender and the flavors spot on. We couldn't stop eating it. And we still had enough leftover to take home for another lunch.
