Went here for lunch with 2 others. Friendly waiter, comfortable atmosphere, nice menu. One ordered Masala dosa, masala tea, I ordered chicken tiki masala, and another ordered chicken kothi parota. When we arrived we were promptly seated and the service was good. We ordered the Masala Dosa which was hot and crunchy and filled with spicy potatoes with several sauces for dipping. Hydera-bad? More like hydera-mazingly delicious. I had a dosa craving and this place was 5 minutes away from my mom's apartment. We were seated and brought cold sodas and water while we looked over the menu. I knew I wanted dosa and idly. Mom wanted a dosa too so instead of two regular dosas we decided to share the large. But we didn't know the large would be so... large. We were brought a massive dosa, hot and fresh and tasty, with tons of Sambar and chutney. The idly came out a few minutes later and was steamed to perfection. The restaurant loses a star because the service was terrible. It was Hydera-really-bad. 4.5 stars. This restaurant had not opened when I was living in Rochester and I really wish it had. This is the only authentic biryani I've had there! We came here on a week night but had reservations. Good thing because it was quite full! While they call themselves biryani house, they have south Indian cuisine primarily, some north Indian curries and the Biryanis. We ordered the Kodi vepudu (chicken vepudu), the Hyderabadi dum goat and chicken biryanis. They take time to get the orders in, so it allows you to actually have a conversation with your group. The vepudu was very good but too oily. That is the reason I give them 4.5 stars. Everything about it other than that was amazing! Spicy, masaledar and well-cooked as far as the chicken goes. This is definitely a dish for spice lovers. The biryanis were excellent! We ordered a spice level of 6, which I (who LOVES spice and always goes for highest) actually thought was decently spicy!! I didn't need to add any raita to calm it down. My brother, who took a 7 on the goat biryani, thought that was a little more spicy than he liked, so may be that would be the perfect level for me. Both biryanis were delicious. The rice was nice and separate. The meat (both goat and chicken) was really cooked well and the spice and flavors had seeped through it all. Quantities were great. I was craving biryani so this seemed like the natural place to go. I ordered a to go order and it was ready within 15 minutes for pick up. I got the Chicken Dum Biryani, which comes with a chicken thigh in saffron rice, a hard boiled egg half, and delicious Biryani spices (strong flavor of mint). The portion was huge and enough for a second meal later. The rice was delicious and the chicken meat so tender. I also got garlic naan and samosas and they were equally yummy. You can't really go wrong with naan! It had a lot of garlic and was chewy in just the right way. The samosas were big and filled with potato and peas and cane with a mint chutney (I think) and hotter red dipping sauce. Upon entering the decor is a little bland. It feels like they are still getting it together so I may get better in the future. Will note that the bathrooms need some attention...for real. But they are usable. I'm speaking for the men's room only here. But enough about that on to the FOOD! So where the restaurant is a little bland on the inside the food most certainly is not! I'm not a native to the cuisine but I understand why there was a bunch of natives to Indian cuisine eating! The food packed the punch of flavor you'd expect. It was sweet, it was spicy, it was fresh, it was aromatic and got the umami flavor. I love Naan and theirs was soooo good. I still like Naan-Tastic Naan better but they have a close close second. Final verdict: I wouldn't mind dinning in again, I would probably do take out and hopefully their food can travel well. As we were waiting we saw multiple parties enter and be seated before us, often after a very warm greeting. After 30 minutes of this, we were told that the kitchen is closing soon and we couldn't be seated. This place is AMAZING. I have seen it so many times while driving by but never tried it until now. Was feeling in the mood for it and was right around the corner. I used the DoorDash pickup option and it was ready about 10 minutes before the estimated pickup time (I showed up a little too early and didn't expect it to be done)!! They should call this place "Hyper-bad" house. That joke being said, this was likely one of the worst Indian restaurants I have ever eaten in. First off, upon walking in our feet squeaked all the way to our table in the back because the floors were sticky. Gross sticky. I was told this place use to be a CiCi's pizza and I only hope that the soda I was walking on wasn't old enough to go back to then. The table was sticky too. The restaurant had a weird ambiance inside and Indian music videos were on the TV. Some people like that sort of stuff, so I won't knock it. But, the interior decorating cues looked like they took a failed CiCis and tried to turn it into something else, but missed the mark. We ordered food from our waiter who was very friendly and helpful. We started with an order of samosas. They came out quick and were huge, and 2 to an order. Splitting them among three people with a fork and butter knife was a failure, but we all got to try them. My mother thought that they were really spicy but I didn't pick up on that. The green cilantro and mint dipping sauce though was terrible... it tasted fine for about a second and then changed to tasting just of salt water. It was so incredibly salty I couldn't believe it. The garlic naan was a nice change of pace and tasted like the namesake garlic, though it was extremely greasy. Water was room temperature in a blue plastic picture that worked adequately but didn't add anything to the ambiance of the place. I ordered Paneer Butter Masala, which was "cubes of cottage cheese cooked in a silky tomato gravy with a hint of spices and fresh herbs, topped with a dollop of butter or cream." It was good though I saw no butter or cream on the top when it arrived. It likely dissolved when they put it in the bowl. My father's dish, "Raju Gari Kodi Palavu," consisted of basmati rice cooked with spices chicken cooked with marinated Indian gravy. My mother ordered a seafood dish. She and I were asked what spice level we wanted and indicated medium. My father was not asked. Out of all of the dishes, his was VERY spicy. He would have preferred less. Mine was very mild and my mother thought her's was spicy but I didn't really think it was. Sadly, presentation was lacking. Two entrees came with side bowls of rice that were messy (dry rice sticking to the outsides of the bowls, rice falling over the top onto the table and floor, etc.) and the rice was a bit dry. The entrees came in their own bowls and I didn't like that at all. I wish the rice and entree were served on the same plate instead of having to make up my own plate. It lead to 3x the amount of dishes on our crowded table, but also the entrees were filled to the top and they spilled on the table too. The waiter couldn't even get them off the serving platter without spilling them on the floor. I wasn't impressed. The restaurant looked and felt underfoot like it needed a good cleaning. The dishes were decent but the spice levels were not as we desired or requested. Going out should be a fun experience, and this wasn't. I doubt I will be back. read more

My star rating would have been a 2 based on service and delivery but I update one star to a 3 because the food is actually very tasty and quite flavorful. The bottom line, is that I placed my order at 5:49 p.m. with an estimated delivery of 6:40 to 7 p.m. .. I track my order on the Yelp app and saw that it was being prepared .. at 7:06 the Yelp app changes my status to there seems to be a problem with your order please contact GrubHub .. I do so and the GrubHub customer service rep tells me that my order was delivered over a half an hour ago .. she asked me to go outside and check and sure enough there on my deck is this little white bundle of lonely Joy .. so many failures points 1. Yelp & Grub hub are NOT in sync. 2. Yelp & Delivery person NOT in sync 3. Delivery person .. Ummm .. Ring the door bell .. Crazy concept .. But yeah that would have done the trick Overall very poorly managed delivery service so not sure if it's worth a second chance given everything else that we have available to us in Rochester .. but I thought I'd be generous and give them a three stars versus the two .. read more

Finally had a chance to get over here with a group of friends and get my Indian food fix. We ordered a lot of different dishes. I personally ordered the onion uttapam and the chicken chettinad. I sampled the chicken 65 and the cauliflower appetizer as well as some biryani. Typically my favorite Indian dish is biryani, and so I surprised myself by not ordering this as my main dish. I did get a chance to sample other's selection of the chicken and fish options. I honestly prefer a chicken biryani made with white meat, so this one wasn't my favorite. The fish was ok. The rice part was my favorite as the combination of flavors was nice. The cardamom stood out distinctly. It's always my favorite flavor. Moving on to my experience with the Chicken Chettinad. It was a dish I tried at a restaurant in London for the first time not too long ago. It was delicious and I wanted to try the version they had here. Again, I am not a huge fan of dark meat chicken, so I ended up not eating most of the meat. I did like the sauce, albeit it was a bit oily. The medium level of spice was enough for me. I'm either getting too sensitive or they don't mess around with the heat. The onion uttapam is like a thick pancake, with plenty of onions. I like it, especially because it had a bit of a sour taste to the batter. It was heavy though, and one is enough to share with a number of people. I actually preferred the dosa - both the plain long one, and the one with the potato. I took this home and enjoyed it later in the evening. I wish I could tell you the name of the cauliflower appetizer we had. It was fantastic, and I would eat this again in a heart beat. Lastly, I think the interior ambiance is nice. It's simple. No background music. The patronage picks up as you get a little later on in the evening. The service was great - the people working there were extremely kind, informative, and generous. I'm a huge fan of dosa so I was excited to try Hyderabad Biryani House when I saw the dosas on their menu. I ordered the Guntur Karan dosa. It was fantastic! The dosa itself was very yummy, it was soft, thin and spicy; the heat was a really good level for me. The potato filling was also delicious - soft and flavorful; I was happy there was plenty of filling for the whole dosa. The sambar was ok; I don't remember being able to taste it over the flavor of the dosa when I dipped it. I think that could've been better. If you like spicy food, I highly recommend this dosa! I'll definitely be coming back for it. We also ordered a side of the Gobi Manchuria; the batter around the cauliflower was a really good texture. I liked the flavor, it was sweet but also a little spicy. My husband ordered a chana masala, medium heat level. We enjoyed it; the spice level wasn't overwhelming but it did have a little bit of heat. The service was very fast. We placed the orders and by the time I came back from the bathroom, our appetizer was already out. Our server was attentive. The interior of the restaurant has some cute wall decor but the seating itself was unremarkable. I'm excited to come back again in the near future and try some of the other dishes. Finally some true attempts at Indian Food in Rochester. All other Indian restaurants here are heavily Americanized which has its place but these guys are trying to do a true taste of India. Be warned the food is hot, but if you like hot you're going to have a good time. Mild is actually VERY HOT, so just order it very very very mild or NOT HOT AT ALL, if you don't want to cry. That's not an insult to them just don't complain if you don't understand Hyderabadi food. Chicken Lollipops are very authentic. I have mixed opinions to give this restaurant a lower review. I had high expectations for this place but the customer service was less to be desired. I met up with a friend who is from India and from the South side so when I told her about the place, we were both excited to try the place especially since it focused on South Indian food when all the Indian restaurants here focus on the North Indian cuisine as she informed me. She has also tried their location in Buffalo and I attended one of her Indian cultural festivals where they catered the food from the Buffalo location so we knew it was quite authentic. We went there on a Thursday evening and my friend had already gotten a table so I just went right into the place, but one thing I noticed immediately was there was no host/wait staff at or near the front of the restaurant to greet me so I just went right in (not sure if they were short on staff that day?). The dining area has plenty of room and probably only a few tables were occupied. This place definitely has space to grow as they have an additional room beside the dining area which they probably use for private dining space. We ordered from the South Indian section of the menu and shared a dosa with chicken curry, while I ordered a parotta (crispy pancake) with mutton curry for myself and she had the idly (fermented rice patties with chutney, sambar and blended chili powder). For drinks, she ordered the madras coffee and I had the masala tea. The curries and dosa came out right away but she had to wait a while for the idly. This is one thing that they need better coordination with is making sure all the food comes at the right time. As well, we kept on having to remind the waiter about my masala tea and even when he was about to give us the bill, we had to ask him yet again (so probably about 3 times in total) about the tea and then he laughed it off which I thought wasn't the best reaction when serving your customers. As well, my friend knew the coffee wasn't Madras coffee and it tasted more like Nescafé which she also told the waiter and he sort of didn't really have an answer. It is just unfortunate he wasn't very apologetic which just didn't sit well with us. With the food, we do agree with other Yelpers, the food is quite authentic and the spice level is represented of Indian curries but I would say for the price you paying, the quantity should be more. The dosa and parotta were portioned well and both were battered well with the parotta being very nice and crispy. Despite waiting a while for my friend's idly, she did enjoy it and I tried a bit of it. It was quite tasty with the sambar. I also enjoyed the dosa with the chutney the best. But probably another big complaint that I had was the mutton curry really wasn't mutton, it was chicken. I would have complained to the waiter but since the service wasn't the greatest, I decided to bite my tongue and eat it. Another thing which was a pet peeve of mine was there was no extra napkins he gave us and when eating Indian food, you need napkins. My friend ended up stealing a napkin from the table next to us just because the server was nowhere to be found. Best Indian place I've found in Buffalo or Rochester Gobi dishes are all done well with spicy level just right. Murgh Makhani is always spiced right and a perfect amount with tender chicken.
