Found this place by accident when my daughter's air conditioner wouldn't work and she was headed to college in the southern California. As it turned out, they did a great job, with great customer service at a fair price. The owner, Juan Carlos is friendly and very customer service oriented. Since then, I went back and had a transmission rebuilt on my Cadillac Escalade. They did a great job at a great price! Unfortunately, when they changed the transmission, one of the seals going to the engine was old and damaged, hence my car had a transmission leak after the repair. I called Juan Carlos and he made it very convenient for me to drop off the car where they replaced the seal quickly at no additional cost to me. When you walk into this place, you can immediately tell that they are responsible and care. The place is organized and immaculate, even though there are projects going on everywhere. Juan Carlos seems to be able to work on all cars and the part that I like about him most is that I feel he is completely honest , and very knowledgeable about auto repairs, I few he really cares about his customers being satisfied and returning. I would give 0 if possible. Unfortunately, our car broke down and we needed to have it towed to our regular auto mechanic 1 mile away. We contracted Amaya to do the tow. Not only did they not drop the car off at our mechanic's open lot but they left it in the middle of the street where it understandably received 2 citations. Decent customer service would be: 1. drop the car off at agreed destination 2. if destination not possible, place in a legal location If there are any obstructions or the site is unsafe, place in alternate location AND call the owner to explain/inform. In our case, there were open spots and driver decided to just leave it in street with no call/warning. We asked that Amya accept responsibility and to cover the tickets but they refused. I asked Carlos Amaya, the owner, if this is how they do business and he said "Ya". Buyer beware...or take a risk. I found Amayas by accident when I needed towing service for a flat tire. Amayas came and when we learned there was no spare tire in my fairly new car, they towed me back to their repair shop and waived the towing fee. The next week I had them look at my daughter's car for electrical issues. They were knowledgable, helpful and reasonably priced. This morning my right rear tire was low on air and my tire rack was in the way, so I needed assistant to jack up the car and loosen the clip from the back of the tire in order to put more air in my tires. And Juan Carlos was very professional and kind to assist me with that. He went out of his way to help me with my problems before he even work on his own customers cars at the shop. Now that is great customer service if you ask me. Not worth it. It's great their hours of operation let me bring it in on my day off, and THEY SAID they were able to accommodate me with a markdown for having to close abruptly without contacting me, but the pricing is atrocious having to pay what would be double market cost on breaks and rotors, only realizing after that they put transmission oil without discussing it with me. This is only after discussing costs with multiple people and places. Which makes me sad, because the people there were nice. read more

Yesterday, I got two flat tires either turning left onto Third St. from Lincoln in downtown San Rafael, or turning into the Goodwill dropoff near that corner, to leave donated items . I don't know what I hit but both driver side tires popped and I had scrapes on edges of my wheels. The Goodwill guy told me that happens a few times a year there so beware! I have a 2020 Honda Civic and the tires were the original Firestone. I was going to call AAA for a tow when the Goodwill guy told me there's a shop right across the street on 2nd, AmayaS. I went in and talked to Juan Carlos. Nice shop, clean and they had a lot of tires, but not ones for my car. He showed me several options which were less money than the Firestones I had. I checked the shop reviews while there, which were stellar, and also the tires he recommended, Kumho ECSTA Sport A/S. They gave me a ride home and picked my up later that day. They installed and balanced 4 new tires, and did an allignment, all for a very reasonable price. They also sanded and touched up the scrapes on my wheels at no charge. They put those wheels on the passenger side so I didn't have to see them every time I got in my car. Very thoughtful. I really appreciated their help and expertise. After doing further research I am really happy I went with their tire recommendation. They rotate tires bought there every 6k miles at no additional charge. I recommend AmayaS. I called Amayas for tow service. When I described my situation I was greeted by 2 very professional service providers. My car was wedged up against a support beam in my carport. I was unable to move my car forward or in reserve without further damage. I have to say it's the worst place I've ever taken my car. At first they said they were going to tow my car for free and they decided they went ahead to charge me extra. Then on top of that my car goes in for one problem, they supposedly said they fixed it, and there's all these other problems with it. I made an appointment for 10:30am the day before coming here to get my oil changed. I arrived on time, dropped my car off, and was instructed to return at 11am to pick up the car. I walked around San Rafael for 30 minutes, came back, and they had not even begun service on my vehicle. They told me to just wait another 15 minutes, but I had to go. I am without a doubt and utterly grateful for the service that Carlos from Amayas' Auto Repair provided. I had just finished my job at a site in San Rafael at 4:45pm and hit a pothole and blew out my front right tire near Lincoln & Mission. Completely flat! The side wall had burst. I thought the work truck I was driving had it's own equipment to change out the tire, but finds out it was taken out. So I looked up numbers for a tow service. The parking lot next to me had a number for a tow company. Called the number twice and both times it gave me a nothing. I looked up on yelp for a tow service in San Rafael and came across "Redhill Towing & Auto Repair". Gave them a call and they immediately said "No we can tow you right now, we're closing in 10 mins. Sorry." I was surprised to hear a tow company only working 8-5pm. Then I called "Corte Madera Tow". They asked where the car needed to be towed to and I said South San Francisco. They denied me the service because it was TOO FAR. Another shocker to me because they didnt even provide me with a quote. The next number I call was AmayaS' Auto Repair. WOW!!! The absolute best tow service company I could have ever asked for. Carlos answered the call professionally, asked what service I was requesting and quoted me immediately. Next thing you know he said he'll be arriving in 10 minutes. And sure enough he showed up in 10 minutes. He was kind and personable. He assessed the problem and proceeded to load the truck onto his flat bed truck. We both wore our masks the whole ride from San Rafael to South San Francisco. Great conversation about family, work, business, relationship and much more. I truly appreciate Carlos and meeting him. Absolutely recommend him and his company over any other in the area. Bought a groupon for oil change and drove from Fairfield to here just to learn that the groupon deal is ONLY FOR NEW CUSTOMER. I'm sure they've gotten people hooked before because the first thing they asked me when I came in was if I've come here before. Good job. Of course the terms and conditions is hidden and they make you jump through hoops to cancel the purchase. Otherwise, just your average oil change place in a sketchy neighborhood. Not worth it. Update: I was confronted by the owner whilst my car was in their possession with this review. I was lectured by the logophile that if I have time to leave this review I should have time to go though the terms and conditions (which is tactically arranged in "the fine print"). I brought my car for a complete brake job and oil change. It was done promptly and at a fair price. Couple weeks later I had an incident which seemed to stem from a faulty brake disc or caliper. What a kind and thoughtful tow truck driver/business owner Juan Carlos is. My car was broken down on the West side of the Richmond bridge. There was a tow truck and driver about to tow another truck nearby where my car was stalled. When the driver saw me (my car) broken down, he came over to ask how I was doing. I told him my car had stalled and was having lots of trouble and that I was calling AAA. Juan Carlos (I found out was the driver's name), kindly offered to tow me to my mechanic after he was through towing the other truck. He said he would be back in 1/2 hour to pick up me and my car. He came back about 20 minutes later, quickly got my car onto his flatbed, and drove me and my car to my mechanic. Juan Carlos could not have been more pleasant the entire drive and during the whole experience. By caring enough to come over to see if I was O.K., he saved me lots of time and effort when I would have had to contact and wait for AAA.
