Amazing Discoveries is your local Gilbert TCG shop, providing a safe and welcoming space to get together and play tabletop card games relevant to the time--whether it's Pokémon, Magic, or others. They buy and sell boxes, packs, and individual cards as well. The staff has always been friendly, and as someone whose 11-year-old son is getting into Pokémon cards, I really appreciate how kindly they treat him, even though he's just a kid. That doesn't go unnoticed. This store isn't just for kids, though. There are plenty of adults who come to play games and hang out, which makes for a cool community vibe. One nice feature is a computer system in the back where you can look up their card inventory. The interior isn't the most aesthetically pleasing, but it serves its purpose well, and the staff makes it a good experience. I'm glad places like this exist--where people can gather, play, and just enjoy themselves. One funny thing: for the longest time, I had no idea what the store was because it's called "Amazing Discoveries," and I wasn't exactly sure what amazing discoveries were happening inside. But once I figured out what it was, I've been back several times--and I know I'll be going even more often with my son. read more

Amazingly Disappointed :/ This review has nothing to reflect on the staff, in fact the staff is great and very helpful and knowledgeable. My disappointment stems from the prices on almost all their base products. We currently live in a time where our local card shops are participating in scalper levels of product pricing. In some cases their products are even priced at 3X MSRP. Now I get that some shops have to outsource product allocation and may not have a choice to collect from unaffiliated sources but it does raise eyebrows if this affects almost all their products being at 2X-3X MSRP. Example Pokémon's new booster box is roughly 160 MSRP on launch there boxes were priced close to 300$ after tax. And in a game completely unaffiliated with the Pokémon company, Union arena booster boxes are roughly 40$ compared to their prices which are 70$+ depending on popularity. This store is unashamed to support scalper pricing. Again the staff is great and they are paid to do their jobs but the pricing is just an amazing disappointment. I'd go next door the Trading Card club they have vested prices and don't blatantly scalp their clients. They are still marked up but it's not as obviously criminal as amazing discoveries. It's stores like this I'll remember if card prices go down to be sure not to support in the future. Try a better place like MOX Boarding or as mentioned next door or take a chance at hitting your local targets and Walmarts. Dont support scalper stores you're doing yourself a disservice. read more

Ridiculous how you can't find certain products anywhere because they are sold out and yet somehow this place has hundreds of available products. Their only catch is they make you pay 2.5 times MSRP. I hope they get trapped with their ridiculous inventory volumes they have so that way a hobby that is built for children can become affordable for them again. read more

They have a great selection of cards ranging from cents to hundreds of dollars and many sealed products, some that have been out of print for years. Great LGS! read more

My partner and his friends come here often to play MTG, so I'd heard great things about this place and finally came in for my very first time this past weekend. The staff were super friendly and helped us find the cards we were looking for and we hung out and browsed the store while we waited for our order. They have a great selection of MTG cards, and to my surprise, I found out that they also carry a lot of discs (for disc golf) which is another hobby my partner and I enjoy a lot! Such a cool store with something for everyone! The shop is also very spacious for all of your gaming needs. I'll definitely be coming back again soon! read more

They also have many board games and comic books too. If your in search of gaming supplies they have you covered. Plenty of space for events and lots of parking. This is a truly amazing game shop! One of my favorite game shops in the major Phoenix area! Have been here a multitude of times and have had a pleasant experience 100% of the time! Staff is quick to help always, even when its busy! They make sure to help you as soon as they can (patience is also helpful as some customers are quicker than others so please work with them as they dont always control how long a transaction takes.) and they also did a revamp of the store layout and it looks FANTASTIC compared to what it used to look like, and the old layout was honestly still pretty good minus the upgraded card display case they have now which is also incredible! While I dont play Pokemon or Magic or even the tabletop games available today I can promise you they have plenty of product available of the previous mentioned items from what Ive seen every time I come in! And the Yu-Gi-Oh selection (which is what i come in for) is pretty insane and grand to say the least! Also for people that may not know, they have 3 other locations in the state of AZ (Casa Grande, Glendale and Tucson) so if they dont have something you're looking for at this location they may have it available at another location so dont be afraid to ask! Overall very happy and satisfied with this game shop! They've definitely earned my business and Id recommend them to anyone looking for major trading card games, tabletop games, some action figures and statues as well as comic books! They have a pretty good selection of comic books to look through! 10/10 game shop and I believe its worth anyones time to stop in and check them out! read more

Waited literally for months for this store to open back up. My son and I saved up $2,800 after graduation to spend on some tabletop games for his Warhammer 40K set, and some rares for some of his card games. We were excited! So we came in, started shopping around, and were told that we had to wear a mask. It wasn't even the mask as much as how it was approached. Not really interested in being interrupted, disrespected, etc. by a teenager that doesn't know how to treat a customer. I own a business. I get it. So I chose to do business elsewhere. Look, if people want to mask, let them make that choice; adults have a right to make a decision in the same way as a business owner. Lost a customer for good. read more

Will not be back. My veteran husband was refused service/entry without a mask (this is after the mask mandate was lifted, mind you). He explained to them he has breathing issues and is medically exempt due to his service and they didn't care. I respect private companies choosing their rules (even though those rules are not back by science, but that's another issue). We left and will take our business to Baxter's. Kinder people, more selection, and they respect your personal health choices. Sorry, Amazing Discoveries. You just lost a sh*t ton of business. My husband is an avid Warhammer 40k enthusiast. My daughter wanted a DND party for her 12th bday.. I hardly knew where to start. These guys let us use their space for free! They were so accommodating even though they had an event going on! They recommended two places where I could possibly find a DM, I ended up asking a family friend, but do you believe they let him bring in his dog? The dog is super sweet but he has separation anxiety ( big time, I've seen it) so being able to bring him in was a huge relief!! Really grateful we found this place!! Thank you!!! read more

Most of the staff is super positive and helpful, but there's one staff member in particular that will try to price gouge you if he thinks you're an idiot. Rolled his eyes at me when I asked a question he apparently thought was stupid. Sorry for not knowing everything bud! I'll stop short of saying don't buy here, most of the staff are fantastic and I've had awesome experiences with them, but watch out for the ones that will try to gouge you. I was a repeat customer and have given them plenty of business. The last visit I had on November 2nd will be my last. I went in with a list of cards I wanted to buy, all the info was on a piece of paper. (It was a large list and they missed out on a few hundred dollars in sales) They had just opened for the day, plenty of employees to help but they were all sitting at tables on computers or just walking around doing nothing. No one offered to help me! There was a customer in front of me that got helped but apparently I wasn't worth their time. When I finally approached an employee they walked me to a little computer and logged in their point of sale program and I was told to search for the cards and add them to the cart and pay and then go up to the cash register and they would then get me the cards. Imagine having a ton of employees, and then expecting me to do their job. I want to SEE something before I purchase it and how I got treated, I will never go back! I just walked out after that. Why pay employees and have customer service when you can just make your customers do everything for you? What a joke. Save yourselves the hassle and go to Grail Collectibles or Olympus Gaming. read more

Went in to buy an $8 card, was charged $14. I bought it anyway as it was for someone else who needed it that night. But when I mentioned to the young man at the register that it was an $8 card, another employee walked over and said "no it is a $14 card." I happened to have the industry buylists/price guides up on my phone, as I had checked them to see what I should expect to pay. So I offered the second employee to take a look, the card was sitting at just under $8 market, and not trending. To which he replies, "well it's a really hard card to find." This was a MtG standard rare from a current set. Not only did the senior employee have poor communication skills, but he then assumed I was not as informed as he. Which is a pretty stupid mistake in the card game. Now I know I can not trust this young man, and I will be cautious when dealing with anyone connected to Amazing Discoveries. Other than this mess, the store seemed decent, the rest of the staff seemed personable, and they have mostly good reviews. I'd stop short of saying don't do business here, but definitely be aware of potential price gouging and dishonesty. read more

We've travelled around to many states and many stores and you'll find the selection and expertise here among the best. Prices are fair, we can always get the singles we need, and the selection is great. Plenty of area for gaming and the staff go out of their way to keep the language clean and the store family friendly. Highly recommended. read more

Worst card shop in the valley. Saw a box of cards I wanted and went to checkout. The lady says it's $320 when I know the box sells for $160. Showed her prices on TCG player and eBay. She went to ask the manager to price match and he wouldn't budge a single dollar. Why put stuff on the shelves if you're not going to sell them at market value? Every other shop sold to me at that price but this guy wouldn't let it go without ripping me off. Spent so much money here too, that ends today. Will never come back here again! read more

I really hate to do this but when I feel this put out I have no choice but to make a comment. I called and was told they buy cards until 7:30-7:45 because they close at 8:00pm. I drove an hour here from the west side. Showed up a few minutes before 7:45. I know I was pushing it but, I ask one guy behind the counter if he could even just buy a few cards from me 4 or 5 if necessary. I really needed the money tonight. He looked to the manager I'm guessing and the manager said sorry nope can't help you . I said I have just a few reallly good cards it would only take a minute . He again refused . So I waited in the store until closing just to see what was so pressing he couldn't let the other employee help me . Well , nothing , absolutely nothing except to exert his authority. I can't stand people like that. The first guy I talked to spent the last 10 minutes until 8 walking around the store and straightening shelves, that seems so very important . The manager who told me no helped a guy continue to buy more product all the way until 8:15 this other customers got his last item and paid . Absolutely ridiculous I'm appalled at this kid . I asked him when I finally left why he couldn't help me since I arrived by the required time . He said there were too many people in the store. It was literally me and 2 other customers . I like shopping here but I also have issues with this location over the other one I go too. In the last month I've had 4 online single card orders and numerous ones in person. I recommend checking your cards at pick up. More then once they've missed giving me cards and I've had to show them what wasn't pulled. I also don't like that they make you pay before pulling your cards. Just today I paid for cards and they didn't have one the computer said they did. If they pulled them ahead of time, I wouldn't have paid for it knowing they didn't have it in store. I also bought cards online that they had on the computer but not in any stores. I was told my account would be credited but my account still has a zero dollar balance. It wasnt a lot of money, but its just annoying in general to have things on your site you don't have in your store. There are some really nice people who work here, and they've always been pretty friendly in person. Just some things that as a consumer I am not fond of. The quality of the cards I do buy is usually pretty good and I will buy from them again. Just dont like some of the business practices. read more

This place is absolute garbage!! Went in yesterday to get bags and boards plus a few comics. Went up to the register to pay and was told my bill was over $125. I told the employee this is impossible and proceeded to add purchase up in front of him. He tells me this price my computer is saying again I tell him it's impossible and add items again in front of him. Meanwhile another employee comes to help the first one and tries to tell me some books I purchased were "supposed" to have $10 stickers on them kinda insinuating I pulled them off. I proceed to tell them even if the books were $10 which they weren't it still wouldn't add up to over $100. Next I'm assuming the manager or owner comes over and comments on the $10 sticker missing and I proceed to tell him IT STILL WONT ADD UP TO $100 and I add everything in front of him again, it's at this time the two other employees realize there is a previous order that's combining with mine. As this is happening in my mind I tell myself give them an opportunity to apologize so I internally counted to five. No sorry no our bad no we made a mistake. The only thing said don't erase first order. I then say to cancel my purchase and the manager tells me to leave as I leave I shout for them to take a math class so they can avoid people trying to take advantage of them and thanks for not over charging me oh wait you tried!!! read more

This place is great! I come here to play D&D with my group and it's always clean and staffed by nice people. Besides D&D, they offer a pretty wide array of comics and other games ranging from Monopoly to Magic. It's a shame that stores like this are falling by the wayside, but I'd like to see this location in it for the long haul. Also, having a Little Caesar's right next to it is a plus during those longer sessions. read more

I came here looking for card boxes and sleeves. The customer service was terrible. I was ignored repeatedly by the employee behind the counter, even after I greeted him. When I asked a question about the products they carry, the cashier didn't seem to know what I was talking about. The layout was confusing. Products that should of been in the same section were split up. The selection was minimal. They only had one size of the single row card boxes and no single card sleeves. The prices were misrepresented. My purchase ended up being 50 cents more than priced, not because of sales tax, but because I used my debit card and the total was under 10 dollars. I understand that there can be surcharges in that case, but if a notice was posted somewhere, I did not see it. read more

I recently pulled some decent cards from a few boxes i bought. I went here hoping to trade in roughly $210 worth of cards (according to current market prices). I assumed I would get about %70 trade in value as I believe this to be the average trade in value for most card shops.. after having to un-sleeve about 50 cards and sit there for 20 minutes while the person looked them all up i was then offered about $100 in store credit. This felt incredibly insulting as this isnt even %50 trade in value.. I realize they have to make some sort of profit but less then %50 is absurd. Not to mention the week before I went there to potentially buy a sealed box of the new "Crimson vow" boosters and asked how much it would cost. The employee responded that it would be about $175.. this is like $50 over price. In short, if you're looking for a place to buy or trade in cards.. this is not the place. other then that the employee's were nice enough, however they have a rule posted that says you need a mask to enter yet none of the employees were wearing masks. read more
