Our dining experience was nice, but the food we ordered was just okay. I wouldn't call it some of the best of Cabo. Of our six dinners in Cabo, I would say it was probably our second to least favorite. But, that's not saying it was bad! It just wasn't on par with the other restaurants we dined at. First, I told the restaurant both when I made the reservation and when two different people at the restaurant inquired about food restrictions that I could not have cheese. The first thing served to us - an amuse bouche - was heavy on the cheese. It was a rather large ravioli, which was much larger than a normal amuse bouche -- and it had cheese inside the ravioli, a cheesy sauce, and cheese grated on top. So I could not eat a bite of it. My husband said it was just okay. The best thing we ordered here was the aguachile. It was beautiful, colorful, artfully presented, and absolutely delicious. So fresh, and well prepared. Loved it! Our main courses, however, were a little disappointing. They tasted fine, but ate more like the kind of main course you would order at a chain Italian restaurant in the US: heavy, chewy, and generic. But my personal saddest moment was when the churros arrived. I love churros, so very much. These looked beautiful, but when my husband and I cut into ours, they were all raw on the inside. Best decision of the trip. Outpost delivered in a huge way. Bonus on a humid August day: They have AC inside. The space itself has real personality: exposed brick, framed portraits of aristocrats with dog heads on the walls, and a couple of TVs built into ornate frames just looping a crackling fireplace all day. Great 70s/80s soundtrack running the whole time too. Farm-to-table breakfast with genuinely clean ingredients -- huevos rancheros and avocado toast with a poached egg were both excellent. And the shrimp omelette had a red sauce that send the flavors over the top. The drinks are the real headliner though. I had them make my espresso martinis with reposado tequila instead of vodka, and it completely elevated the drink. My friend Kandy would usually start with an espresso martini too before moving on to their lavender martini, which became her go-to for the rest of the weekend. We also had a Carajillo done tableside, flambé style -- a full 3-minute production of lighting it on fire and pouring it back and forth before serving over ice. Genuinely one of the coolest drink presentations I've seen. Eneas took care of us all three days and was fantastic: warm, attentive, clearly loves his job. Alberto was great too. Bartender Rigo made every drink perfectly, tequila swaps and all. You can tell Chef Anna runs a tight kitchen and Jefe Calixto keeps the whole place running smoothly. The fans were very loud and didn't really provide much relief. There were also quite a few flies and bugs around the tables. They had things on the tables to help with the flies, but they didn't seem to be very effective. Unfortunately, our server was also a major disappointment. He barely checked on us, and when it was time to pay, we waited over 25 minutes just to get our check. That really shouldn't happen, especially at a restaurant of this caliber. The food was also a disappointment compared to my previous visit. The beet salad recipe had changed, and I didn't find it nearly as flavorful as it was last year. I understand that the menu changes based on seasonal produce, but I ordered a chicken curry salad and honestly did not enjoy it. The bread was extremely thick, and overall, the meal just wasn't very good. We also got the cinnamon roll it wasn't soft at all, it was very chewy and tough inside. They were so flavorful and perfectly prepared that I was genuinely impressed, which is saying a lot because vegetables are rarely memorable. The shrimp themselves were delicious and cooked perfectly. We also had the coconut-crusted lobster, which was very good as well. The only minor drawback was that the mashed potatoes were a little cold when they arrived.
