we hung out here for solid 3 hrs and with 5 kids in various ages. Thanks to them for letting the tired and hungry kids have fun in the empty restaurant. The place was not very busy when we reached at 6. I personally loved the huge Ganesha idol at the entrance. We will definitely recommend the butter chicken and tandoori roti. Our kid loved the lassi. Vegetarians in the group liked the main dishes but starters were a bit chewy. Sufficient parking around and restrooms were clean. We were all visitors to the region, but at least one of our number had visited previously and heard about Ambrosia. Good gossip, right? RIGHT! We thoroughly enjoyed our supper at Ambrosia. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. I start dining with my eyes as I survey the location and there is plenty to feast on visually. Artwork is generously applied to the walls that is complimented with statuary that adds its own charm. The appetizers were sumptuous and our herbal teas arrived hot and aromatic. Our entrees showed up in a timely fashion and were quite delicious. They were flavorful in their own way and spiced to perfection. I love this place! Their pre-fix (non-vegetarian) option was perfect while dining alone. I definitely had left overs, but all of the dishes were well seasoned and the meat was very tender. The server was attentive and they checked on me often (but not in a "hovering" way). _I have been a fan of Ambrosia at various locations from Monterey to Los Gatos for MANY years. I believe all my prior reviews were 5 stars. I've recommended it to both friends and family as an excellent option for Indian cuisine. A recent visit to the Soquel location (a regular stop when visiting Capitola and environs) indicated something is "broken" at least at this location. The front door was still locked at opening time. Someone was changing out light fixtures. When we were directed to a. back door (about 10 minutes later) the buffet was still not 'stocked'. After another 10 or so minutes, we could actually be served. The food was generally ok, but the chicken curry was pretty much broth and chicken and the naan (served 10 minutes into the meal) was 'meh' at best. The impression, supported only by observation, is this location has been sold/franchised to someone who is not Indian. I hope it was just a bad day, but it has taken this location of Ambrosia off my 'must visit' list. read more

I stopped in to the Aotos Ambrosia today for their buffet lunch. There were So Many selections, and everything I chose was amazingly delicious! I hadn't been for many years. But the interior had been updated and redesigned. It's spacious and lovely. The restroom was also updated. Nice. The parking lot in the back of the building is very untidy. There is trash strewn about. And quite frankly it did affect how I felt about the restaurant. Perhaps next time I'll park in the street in front? read more

I've been to more Indian restaurants than I can count, but never had anything like this. Flavorless, tasteless and a total waste of my hard earned money. There wasn't an ounce of spices or flavors in my food including salt. They tried to remake it, added salt (finally) and drumroll - chili paste. Hahahahahaha. The only thing that tasted good here was the roti and the water, water being tastiest! Never appreciated water as much as I did after eating the food. Halfway through my husband commented wishing we were eating frozen Trader Joe's food, and that's when we gave up and packed whatever was left ($23 a dish?!!! I'll go home and add gram masala and garlic and aromatics and fix it) and ran out of there. Never again. Ever. read more

Have come to rely on Ambrosia Aptos during COVID for our go to Takeout. Good quality, tasty Indian food at reasonable prices. Here are some of our favorites... * Keema Naan -- Naan stuffed with seasoned ground lamb. We usually toast it up for a few minutes just before eating to get that right out of the oven freshness. * Spicy Fish Tikka - So tasty. Basa fish fillet is fresh and has good spice heat. Decent portion. * Trio Chicken - A selection of chicken Tikka kebab, Peshawari chicken and tandoori chicken. Great flavor, and nice variety. * Vegetable korma - It was good, but portion could be a bit bigger for the price. It has cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini (only 1 piece though), peas and carrots. Mild creamy curry. For more traditional Indian preparation that I'm used to, I would have liked to see more zucchini, green beans and carrot. Blown away by the quality of the food, service, and price! My fiancé and I are tourists and we just wanted food that was close so we chose this place. We were SO pleasantly surprised. We ordered the non-vegetarian feast (feeds two for $37, what a steal!) and the naan with mozzarella. I appreciate that the waiter told us we didn't need to order more because we were going to but we were super full off the feast alone and had leftovers. The service was quick and friendly too. It's always exciting to try a new Indian spot especially when it's the perfect take-away option to enjoy at home. Ambrosia popped up on our nearby with solid ratings so I was very excited to call in and enjoy some spicy Indian takeout. After our meal, I'd say that this spot was good but not necessarily our favorite. They have a dedicated vegan menu which I appreciated and there is plenty around for the meat eaters. Three things lined our dinner table tonight: Butter Chicken ($15), Palak Paneer ($13), and their Vegan Aloo Baingan Masala ($12). Each comes in the small soup container size for reference. I was only able to have the later two and thought the PP was okay- it didn't have as much flavor as I'm used to in other places. Their ABM was pretty good however and I'm glad I clarified with them what ingredients they used to prepare this dish. If you have a coconut allergy, this is a good option for you since it does not contain any coconut based products. For our carbs, we ordered the Assorted Bread ($9) containing naan, garlic naan, and onion kulcha. Their later was the best but the naan felt very flat. Their garlic naan felt like it had just been sprinkled on with a little bit of minced garlic, and we were hoping for a lot more flavor. I also ordered a vegan parantha which wasn't bad either. Placing the order was very easy and they had our food ready in about 30 minutes. Overall, the meal was good but it didn't blow me away to the point where I'd return immediately.
