Cheyne is the leader of this knowledgeable, engaging and uber enthusiastic team. Cheyne's spirits knowledge is off the charts and he is especially adept at assisting in concocting the best recipes for your favorite cocktails new and old. Caileen is the masterful curator of the wine clubs and the wine department. The wine selections are the best in Santa Cruz county and her knowledge of wines around the world is second to known. My 2 stars are based on the ambiance. I've been to this shop several times, mainly just to pop in and grab a water and snacks. Every time I've been in there, the young women working doesn't greet me, smile or show any customer service whatsoever. Each time I've gone out of my way to be friendly but it doesn't seem to help. They make their own vodka, and it's damn good! I came here looking to try a different brand of vodka. Something different from the same old, same old. The lady behind the counter started telling me about their vodka that they make. It was on sale for $20 so I figured, why not? It is damn good vodka. I almost couldn't tell I even had vodka in my glass it was that smooth. And before you question my pour, I measure. So I knew it wasn't a situation of a light hand. The store hours happen to be optional apparently as the hours listed were until 9pm and the man working the front desk closed at 8:30. Do you guys have ice? Yea! Open on New Years Eve at 8pm, even better! Came here to get some ice but got distracted at the different kinds of alcohol they had. Saw others in the store enjoying their experience from the wine tasting- looked like a good time! This liquor store is rockin!!! The staff is all so sweet and helpful. The owner Stewart is always there to assist in picking just the right libation, whether it be for a special event, a friend, or even just a quiet night by the fire. From Beoujolais to Beer, they have it all. Stewart has even added a beautiful wine tasting bar. Vendors come in and allow you to test the vino before you buy. So much fun, you almost forget you are in a shopping center! Stewart knows a little bit about a lot of stuff, super fun to chat with. The pricing is very fair and Stewart always has great deals and specials. Also, check out his cool line of surf tees. The motto is, "surfing sucks, don't try it!" PHENOMENAL service. After hours, the worker allowed my son and I to grab some chocolate bars and while doing that, he was extremely kind and friendly. An updated review for continued excellent service! We ordered wedding libations here. Staff helped us plan what we needed and how much we needed. There were a lot of options, including different brands and different ways to get it (e.g. beer in kegs or beer in bottles). We got exactly what we needed and they even delivered to our (nearby) venue. 'Can't thank everyone at Deer Park enough for helping to make our wedding party a success! Stopped by this liquor store ten minutes before closing time. After we picked out a few items, the cashier was super rude after my friend politely asked to make our purchase into separate transactions. Considering we were spending $25+ and there is a grocery store next door, we expected a little courtesy. We did not appreciate his comments like, "Jesus Christ... I can't believe this... you guys are pulling this five minutes before closing time." We used to come here regularly, but next time I will go five minutes up the road... Recently, we used Deer Park Liquor shop as our "Booze for the wedding weekend festivities" store. We chose Deer Park over Costco because of customer service, convenience and to support a great local business. The staff is very knowledgeable and helped us select our red and white wines. We could have saved $50-$100 up front at Costco, BUT Costco won't consider returns. DP accepted the couple extras we had that were in good condition. So in the end we spent less at DP. And we got the joy of getting to know the staff. Deer Park has a great selection and can match any budget. We highly recommend using Deer Park for your events booze needs. Let me start off by explaining what happened. I live about two minutes up the street and because of it frequently come here. Because it's the only one in walking distance I have never really had a problem putting up with the slightly higher prices, dusty store, and difficulty locating what I was looking for. But today was horrible. I walked in with my girlfriend (who also has been there with me plenty of times) because she wanted to grab a couple tall cans for the beach. She grabbed her beers and went to the counter to pay. Now, she recently lost her wallet with her CA state issue drivers license so she wasn't able to produce the standard form of ID; however, she did have several other cards and forms of ID from reputable places (Scuba ID, Cal Berkeley Student ID, insurance card, etc.) that had both her picture and her date-of-birth on it as well as the DMV paper issued as a temporary license by the DMV when a new drivers license is being sent. She tried to use this as ID (just to clarify I'm 22 and she's 23) but they wouldn't accept it, which is fine I understand people have standards and guidelines. But the worst part was how the man helping us (taller, older man, probably about 6'2") proceeded to raise his voice and throw around her different cards and paperwork when she tried to present her case just a little bit. I gave him a chance to calm down a little (every one gets annoyed every now and then right?) while she was putting away all of her stuff in her wallet but it only continued to escalate. I finally had to tell him he needed to calm down put it didn't get any better. She finally packed her stuff and we just took our business next door where I used my ID to get beer instead. Having worked in customer service jobs most of my life I was absolutely shocked at what I had experienced. If there is any sort of issue with a customer one should always kindly explain it with absolutely patience. The fact that he treated a customer and more importantly a woman with so little respect was appalling. If today was any indication of how he treats woman in general I feel bad for whoever is his wife. read more
