Was really hoping for more out of this theater after the one by the mall closed. The movie and concessions were totally fine. But the seats....... The seat were what you would expect to see on an inner city bus. Very very dated. Which is fine if it was clean. The seats and carpet was heavily stained. After about 20 minutes of sitting it felt as if I was sitting on a park bench. I would love to visit this location more but with the seating in the state that it's in I'm not sure I will be back. This is the last big box traditional movie theater in town unfortunately post pandemic. They get three stars because sometimes it's a little sticky and you all know it's expensive, but I still have great times with my kids there. A lot of their specials aren't very well marketed and the only way I know is by going to look at the website. If I ask, they'll give them to me, but they definitely don't advertise. The theater could thrive and not just survive by adding alcoholic beverages to the menu and getting more bougie with service to the venues, etc. My kids and I are obsessed with the theaters in Indianapolis that serve alcohol and bring your food and popcorn to you in your chair. I think something like that in Bloomington would do amazing. However, I just don't know if they have the bandwidth left to think outside the box and expand into new realms. Went to the 6:15pm showing of "Materialist" and it had to be 90 degrees in the theater. Halfway through the movie I went to find out why and they knew it was hot and the system couldn't cool. If you know you can't properly run your building- don't open and take people's money! read more

It's outdated and desperately needs an upgrade. Can't reserve your seat and the cushions are stained from years of butts leaving whatever remnants they have behind. I suspect the seats were originally red (without the streaks of gray), but that's just my best guess. Bloomington should have a good theater and hopefully this becomes that one day. The staff is always nice - no complaint there. Whoever owns it needs to step their game up though. I shouldn't be so willing to drive to Indy every time a must-see movie comes out. read more

I have been going the "Showplace12" since it was built and in the past it's been a great theater. Top notch audio and picture. But now the theater is just nasty with the filthiest seats of any theater I have ever been to. Just saw Indiana Jones 7/3/23 and Theater #1 seats look Oil covered the dirt was so thick. The floors are always sticky no matter what theater you get. If management would spring for some TLC and keep it clean I'd go to movies more often. read more

Theater was dated, but it served its purpose, Lg popcorn, candy & drink will run you about $20. The staff was friendly & helpful. Loved that it was not too busy so it was nice being able to watch my movies (yes its our pass time between loads so we, end up watching 2 shows) in peace & sit where we wanted. Hubby & I are drivers, so for other drivers, there is plenty of space in the parking lot for Bob tail. Would definitely return. read more

Employees are always terrific and professional. However-- Seats and theater are increasingly filthy and always hot in the summer (HVAC doesn't work), food and popcorn is cold and unappealing, popcorn and nachos are only reliable menu items anyway, and the smell inside the entire place is musty and disgusting. Owners have up at least a decade ago. They need to either invest in this theater or close it down ASAP because it is only one step away from the Monroe county health department closing it down anyway. Which is likely what happened to the closing down of AMC on the East side a few years ago. It was even worse. This is a college town with money to spend on movies. We love this theater! Close to our house and in the last couple years they have done extensive cleaning-seats/floors have been deep cleaned. Which was desperately needed. Staff is always nice and helpful-once I ordered a hot dog (which are out of this world!) and the person told me to go ahead and get seated and he would bring it to me. And he did! Whoa!! Great service! I never thought he would find me. Ha Movies are always playing at decent, variable times too so easy to find a good time for us. Try the pretzels too-so good! read more

So I usually go to Amc 17 now in Indianapolis Indiana now instead of the Bloomington location and I will explain why. Also I will explain why I still go here but can't rate this place 5 stars and that will also be explain. Let's begin Well AMC 17 has everything. Recliners to relax your body while you watch the movie. Bigger seats for larger or taller people so they have more room for comfort. Also they have a full bar which is super cool to get a drink while your watching your movie. Also, so many more different types of food selection. So this is why I now go to AMC 17 more often. Now the reason I gave this place 4 stars is because I know how a real AMC should look like and be. This Amc do not have recliner seats, or a full bar or great food selection. The seats are small compared to other AMCs like 17 in Indianapolis Indiana. But I still do go here sometimes, why? It is closer to my house and when I am in the mood to see a movie but don't feel like going to AMC 17 I go here. So I settle with this movie theater. Not a 5 but I give this place a 4 because it is clean and good service most of the times and still good selection of shows and some options on food. read more

Just came from a movie there and the place is filthy. Yes, they were busy but the floors looked like they haven't been vacuumed all week. The lobby and hallways are nasty. I came to see a 4:45 movie. It wasn't very busy at the theatre so there was only one person selling tickets and she kept conversing with previous customers, so it took a bit longer to be able to buy a ticket. I found the price of popcorn and pop to be ridiculously expensive. You could only choose between regular and large and it ended up costing over $14 for a regular pop and popcorn. We could have gotten the large combo for less than $1 more, but that size was huge! The quality of the popcorn wasn't very good anyway; it had a somewhat burnt taste. My movie was in theatre #2. Walking into the theatre you are immediately hit with a strong unpleasant smell. It honestly smelled like urine. It was terribly unpleasant. After sitting through previews, we finally got to watch the movie. The quality of the sound and video was just fine, but the smell still lingered. read more

Overall, this is a great movie theater! They provide a wide selection of concessions available and the employees are always friendly. (Even the teenager employees!) The seats within each theater are situated so even someone who's 7 feet tall sits in front of you, you can still see. (Honestly, this is one of the best things about this place. Who likes it when they have to strain their neck to see the movie?) The only reason I'm giving this theater 4 stars is because the upholstery on the seats really needs to be updated. Everything is old and needs to be freshened up. Overall, though, even though it's old, it's usually clean. Tip: Go in the mornings before noon to get $5 movies. (This includes weekends!) OR become an AMC Stubs member and get $5 movies on Tuesdays. (My husband and I LOVE AMC Stubs. It seems like every other time we go, we have another $5 reward.) Tucked back off the highway, this little gem can be hard to find unless you have been there before... but this a a very nice theater that attracts a multigenerational crowd. Often the audience is lively and participates in the experience. For example, the last movie I saw here was Bohemian Rhapsody. Audience clapped at the end and most stayed for the film roll footage at the end, laughing and humming lyrics. Though not a new theater it does have many of the modern conveniences of AMC properties. Online ticketing, many screens, large fresh concession stand, big bright bathrooms, tiered seating etc. this property also does a great job of participating in promotions. I have never personally experienced a problem at the location and was surprised by other reviews. I have always found it to be a wonderful experience when visiting. Yes, concessions are high but that is standard among AMCs. read more

First time going to a movie since Jan 2020 and the first time going to the movies after moving to Bloomington Got to say how disappointing the movie theatre is . Theatre 4 had the old-school fabric seats which were all sporting stains; I shudder to think what nastiness the seats were harboring! Seats were very uncomfortable and it looks as if they've never had a cleaning nor did the floors look as if they had been swept or had anyone care about then in a long time. I get that times have been tough over he past several years for the movies but that pandemic time could have been used for a thorough deep cleaning or heck a replacement of seats. No excuse to not have vinyl or pleather seats that can be cleaned easily after spills or mishaps. I'd even be ok with not having the stadium seats as long as there were fresh stain-free seats that weren't made out of fabric that is holding onto who knows what. I expected more from Bloomington. Oh and beware of the parking lot. Major potholes with orange cones to mark them all over the parking lot. We joked that the movie theatre looked lime it was in an industrial waste zone and we didn't feel wrong after we came out. read more

Dear god, for the love of all that is holy please get new seats, or at least clean the ones you have! They are absolutely disgusting. Large stains on every seat, as if 25 years of vomiting and spilled drinks isn't horrible enough. The place is seriously understaffed, though I can probably guess it's because you pay minimum wage and give 10 cent raises (wow a full time person working max hours would make a whole $4.00 more every week) what a joke. And then expecting to take away most of their weekends/holidays you still have the nerve to barely pay anything. You charge $15 for 1 drink and 1 popcorn, something that takes all of 10 cents to make, I think you CAN afford to pay these people better, you just don't want to. Anyway, due to being understaffed most of the food options weren't available. The bathrooms are almost always closed on one side and never cleaned or stocked. I swear, I have to open 2-3 stalls just to find a clean one that doesn't look like a crime scene. This place sucks a big one. I'd rather drive 90 minutes more and go to a clean theater that serves diner and beer. read more

The theater takes cash but refuses to give change, so bring exact change if paying with cash . They enforce mask mandates & charge you a dollar for a mask that will break almost immediately. The movie was great but I'll never go back . read more

Came here last night to see a movie but was not let in because I couldn't prove I was 17 years old, even though me and my friends are all juniors at IU and obviously way beyond age 17. I didn't even think to bring my license because my friend was the one who drove. We came all the way from campus and the staff member was not willing to help us in any way- he wouldn't even accept a picture of my license proving my age. I had to Uber home alone while my friends saw the movie. It was ridiculous. I will never come back to this theater and will be sure to tell all my friends to avoid it, too. The staff member did not care about our situation and was very rude to me and my friends. read more

Wow. High prices, lazy help, and unclear pricing. How much better can it get? AMC recently took over the local Kerasotes theatres. I never thought I would say this, but I MISS Kerasotes. With Kerasotes, the staff was friendly, you didn't have to wait long for your snacks, everything was clearly priced, and the staff was waiting after the movie to clean the thatre. Now, the ticket taker stands there as the clerk rips your ticket, no one standing around bothers to help the guy at the concession counter, the prices are unclear, and the prices have gone WAY up.. Then there is the dirty theater.. the dirty bathroom... need I go on? Understaffed with a staff that doesn't care. Lucky for me, there is an alternative, and I plan to start going there to see movies. AMC is terrible!! If my picture uploaded properly, you'll see it. If not, imagine going into the mens room and seeing a random cup on a urinal because no one cleans. Then there was the non working paper towel dispenser... (sigh) read more

The staff here isn't always the friendliest. We have the premium Stubs account. We visit often since we have the MoviePass too. Their rules for using Stubs premier are very hard to understand and follow. Redemption rules seem to change from person to person. Sadly, AMC is all we have in Bloomington. read more

Do yourself a favor and AVOID this place on the weekends. Seriously, the prices double...especially with all that 3D gimmickery they're trying to pull now. The seats are pretty grimy, various and sundry stains and ground in spots of who-knows-what. Some of the arm rests are bent too...sometimes I worry that my $8 64 ounce soda is going to tip over and flood the place. My Husband and I went to this Cinema to see Mission Impossible Fall Out. The cinema was very clean and the staff was very polite. They were also very knowledgeable about their promotion for their Stubs A-List. They were able to answer every question we had. It was great to see such young adult so polite, working and not leaning or gossiping about this and that. We had a wonderful time and we will be back. read more

The floors in the lobby are dirty, the bathrooms are awful (including: cleanliness, smell, and lack of upkeep), and the theatre smells like bad body odor and the seats look disgusting. AMC 12 has Bedbugs Ok so, the 2nd of October was my birthday so we decided to go see a movie at the local Amc 12 in Bloomington. We got there a bit before 8 because that was when the House with the Clock in the Walls started. About the middle of the flick my son went to the restroom. When he came back he told me we needed to go. The urgency in his voice me made me think there was some sort of family emergency. When I asked him what was going on he said he would tell me outside. When we left the number 2 room and my son showed me his hand which had a bedbug corpse on it with blood. My reply was "WAIT A MINUTE YOU'RE TELLING Me YOU FOUND A BEDBUG IN HERE !!!!" He said he had and there was more. A man that was working the shift was hovering in the doorway. Which by the way, didn't introduce himself, but, I saw him and asked if he was aware of what had happened. He said that he was but, it was nothing to worry about. He said that when this normally happens the bedbugs were just hitchhikers that came in on other customers and they might have someone come in the next day to check it out. Keep in mind the whole time he's got a look of annoyance towards me and my family the whole time. My first reaction was to run out of the building screaming. My hubby was much more calm, and suggested that we all went to the restroom and check to see if we had any of those things on us. It sounded like a sensible idea to me so, I asked for some trash bags to put our belongings in. Two other employees showed up and gave me three bags. They never said a word. Luckily my daughter had just a couple of bite marks on her. My son, on the other hand had found several more of the bedbugs on his persons. Mostly on his shorts. They were all alive and biting. He had quite a few bite marks. Most of them them were on his legs. Turns out my son had made report of the incident when he went to the restroom the first time. He told them that he was with his family and asked if he should come get us but the employee of AMC had told him not too. That was the same fella that told me that bed bugs were no big deal. They gave us replacement tickets so, we could come back and watch the movie plus a coupon for a popcorn and a couple of drinks basically, just enough to cover what we had paid for that night. Like that would make everything ok. If they think i ever want to set foot in there movie house again there nuts. When we got home we came in the house one by one. Each of us stripping down and putting all of our things in the trash bags from AMC. We left the bag outside then we all took showers. All of our things were then washed in hot water. Another problem was when I was taking clothes out of the bags to put in the washer I found more bed bugs!!! The next day I called the Indiana department of health then Marion county health. They told me that they can't force AMC to do do anything. They told me bed bugs don't carry any disease so, all they can do is call and find out if AMC is doing anything about it. but, they can't enforce anything. I also called the corporate office of AMC and made a complaint. Someone was suppose to call me back but, as of now I haven't' heard anything back. To say that I'm upset would be an understatement. If they would of been cleaning the theater properly this wouldn't of been an issue. I took my family to their establishment for a night out and ended up being a bed bug buffet. This is just plain pitiful. They were all acting like it was no big deal but it's a very big deal to me. My son had been in misery itching for days and I'm scared to death that those insects have somehow gotten into my home. Were so paranoid. Every little thing makes us freak out. I'm not sure what to do here. What happened to us was not right and theses people at AMC need to take responsibility for what is happening in there theater. The Showplace 12 is a great movie theater but they ND to keep it clean and do the maintenance on it monthly so it does not look like the one on the east side of Bloomington which is dirty and the seats are nasty.I say it needs to be cleaned at least every month tht means seats and floors clean good.we should not have to pay for a movie and sit in dirty seats and sticky floors.Please keep it clean.I know you have people that just throw trash and soda on the floors and seats.if I seen some one doing that I would report them to the manager.The cleaner our movie theater is clean and maintenance update it will last longer and people will like going to it.No one wants to be in a dirty theater with dirty seats.C.E read more

Our first time to this movie theatre was met with utmost disappointment and awful nonchalant unprofessionalism. On Christmas Day nonetheless, I had secured online tickets an entire week before the showing of Watson and Holmes. When we arrived we were told it was sold out and turned away, even though we already had tickets! The young kid at the counter as well as the MANAGER himself (bald guy with glasses) acted as though this was a casual mishap, not that it was Christmas Day or anything and we had traveled from brown county with movie plans intact on one of the biggest holidays of the year for seeing movies. We were given 2 vouchers to recover the cost of the tickets, but nothing else to compensate for the unprofessional way we were treated. This place sucks! read more

I can't say this is a bad theater. I fear it is probably pretty standard for small town American towns. I will say I am sad to see Kerasotes gone (I know I'm late to the party on this information). If I could make only ONE suggestion to AMC it would be to BRING BACK THE FIVE BUCK CLUB. In a town like this, you may get a lot out of the college students, but the locals would frequent your movie theater more after the initial teenage/young adult rush to see movies first. I can only speak for myself, I used to go to the movies weekly and see "something." Now, I only go to the ones that I deem worth it. Kerasotes used to get AT LEAST 40 bucks out of me every month (me and my wife). Now, they are lucky to get 20. When 5 Buck club was around, I would still see the blockbusters early. It was nice though for those films that you weren't sure about. Heck, for 20 bucks to get in the door, it is cheaper often to buy the DVD, watch it once and donate it to Goodwill. Disappointing AMC. Just watched Jumanji with that family. Movie was at 10:10am so the price was only $5 per ticket. The theatre was clean and the emplyees were friendly. Prices are high as expected. We'll be back to watch more movies for sure. read more
