The building itself is always clean, homey and well-decorated (non-institutional). Much thought has been given to creating a pleasant experience for visitors and residents alike. Garden areas are wonderful during spring, summer and fall for walks, bird watching, gardening. There are plenty of events, celebrations to meet various interests/abilities. They have just built a new addition which was handled in such a creative, thoughtful way -- residents' lives remained normal and calm despite construction. Plus, it is beautiful! Most important, I am thrilled with the level of care, concern and genuine affection/compassion the staff provides and exhibits toward my mother, as well as the other residents. Patience, understanding, creativity and sense of family are very evident whether a resident's family member is present or not. Nurses and caregivers have gone out of their way to meet my mother's needs and mine as well -- so I'd don't need to guess how she is doing. They share anecdotes of what she's said or done during the day; if she's happy, sad; ate well/or not so well; was up all night or slept well -- without my asking. This is very important to me as her primary caregiver. They are truly extensions of me and do it better than I ever could at this point in her journey. We are both blessed to have found such a wonderful place for her to live.

If I could rate this "nursing facility" any lower it would be -5 stars! Contrary to my previous…read moreposting I AM NOT in San Francisco, I am near the Mayfield Hts., Oh facility. Which is why I am reposting my previous review. Please do not send anyone you love or care about to this facility. And their website states they haven't had any issues or fines, that's a lie! I made a formal complaint last year to the Ohio Dept of Health, who ruled that my compliant was substantiated, they were sited and fined. THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS NOT TRAINED ADEQUATELY TO ADMINISTER HOSPICE CARE. I too, have given this establishment 1 star because there has to be some kind of rating to write this review. My dad received "care" here for less than 30 days. He was admitted for hospice care, which at Manor Care of Mayfield Hts., was anything but! My dad had dementia and a recent partial hip replacement because of an unmonitored fall at another physical therapy facility. (Another review) It wasn't expected that he was going to pass away immediately, he just need extra care because of his mental status and inability to do anything for himself. Inside of 4 days he developed a good sized bed sore at his tailbone. I was the one who discovered it, not the staff. I discovered the sore because my dad was screaming out in pain and I took over cleaning him because the aide was using a DRY washcloth to cleanse him. I summoned the nurse who told me "I have to call hospice". She never touched him or took over cleansing his wound at all, I DID IT! My dad was very depressed during his stay at the facility and would not open his eyes, however he was not always sleeping. Very few aides or nurses actually came into his room other than to try to feed him or change him for bed. Their response was always, he's sleeping. Every day that I spent with him there the 1st thing I would do is offer water which he consumed as if he was parched, with his eyes closed. He cheeked his food and no one bothered to attempt to remove it. I would find whole pieces of food in his mouth when I checked it, and reported it several times, I even had a care meeting with the staff regarding this. The administrator was always sweet, apologetic, compassionate and understanding, BUT SHE DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE! He was never repositioned unless he was being changed, but most often, back into the same position! After 2 1/2 weeks of this my dad started shutting down and refused food. The bedsore he had, had grown into the size of a saucer for a tea cup and oozing blood! It did not throw up any alarms to any one but me, why? When the time came and he started transitioning to death, there was no step up in care at all. No continuous check on his vitals, his comfort, or his dignity through this transition. There was not a member of this establishment that sat vigil on him other than family as he laid there dying. In his last hours I had to go to the nurses station 3 times to get some assistance because he was struggling too hard to breathe. Because I was angry the 3rd time another nurse not assigned to him came to check him. He had a fever of 101 degrees and his pulse was 125! When his nurse came back to the floor after 2-3- minutes, she actually told me that she had to go and check the hospice protocol! SERIOUSLY?! Again the common phrase, "I have to call hospice". I had to explain to her that their doctor was in charge and they needed to call him. The nurse who came to check his vitals walked away and called the doctor of the facility who dispensed meds that had already been prescribed (morphine) to assist him in his breathing. My dad expired 2 hours later. My dad was a patient of Cleveland Clinic hospice who was overseeing his care. I have asked them to remove Manor Car of Mayfield Hts OFF of their list of Hospice care facilities. My dad was there less than 30 days and suffered needlessly, even in what was apparent was his last days. He was too frail by then (I think) to have been moved somewhere else. I wish I had did it anyway, he passed away June 30, 2018. THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS NOT TRAINED ADEQUATELY TO ADMINISTER HOSPICE CARE.

Worst yet I'm sleeping in the chair because I don't feel comfortable leaving her here alone.. If you are looking to torture your elderly family member you found the right spot!! Luckily she was not seriously injured and was discharged from the hospital the same day. The executive director and I discussed this and the system has been tested and modified and her pendant will be checked. The dryer has been replaced once (with a used one from another apartment) and still takes hours to dry a single load. This is very stressful for her. After discussing with the executive director, the setup will be replaced and technicians will be in to check the installation. Maintenance requests are an issue. I am not sure if the requests are being entered correctly or are being lost or if there is an issue with how they are being communicated. The cleaning, dining room and front desk staff are caring and try to help. I am more comfortable after a discussion with the director, time will tell.

I never once saw a glass of water, I had drinks brought to me, the one drink offered was coffee but the bitched and moaned about refilling a 5 ounce glass. I mean really a child drinks more than that in a juice boxes each day. A sippy cup was larger than this cup.... I was also told by this lady that was older than father time to shut up and quit complaining she futher explained that I wasn't a priority because they had more than me too take care of and with that she slammed the door and refused to answer the the buzzer. I couldn't even get out of bed without assistance so I had to sit there and take it.... The next day I was allowed to get in my wheelchair so i wheeled myself out to get my own coffee and once there the day nurse said she would get it and all of the sudden the old nurse there asking what I was doing SO I SAID getting the coffee that you don't have time to get in a loud voice!!! Then all of the sudden I was the center of attention and they at the nurses' station began to ask who I was SO I SAID it's me Marie (said my whole name) and if you have a problem I am in room 218 you can COME HERE if you got a problem and slammed the door behind me, like it was slammed the day before!!!! I had a visitor and she knew one of the workers a nurse, she actually said are you here to get her (meaning ME) I am so sick of her SHIT... I wished I could get out of bed and would have showed her what I was about, but my friend calmed me down... this is the worst place I could imagine any one too be. My guy across the hall fell 10 times and they wouldn't respond to his buzzer so I started turn mine on so they would answer 2 lights and they couldn't be at the ready because they were watching more than one section at a time and doing laundry... Once they even came in whilst I was sleeping and yelled my name out because they said they thought I was dead because I took my sleep medications, so they started a joke saying I was the dead lady... Really all went through wont begin to cover this review..... JUST KNOW THAT YOU SHOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING ANYONE THAT YOU LOVE IN THIS FACILITY THEY ARE TOTALLY other INCAPABLE.... There was 2 highlights was there were some staff that knew there job, 1 nurse on the morning staff just 1, the nurses on second shift helped more than day shift other than that there was no reason for me too stay so I tried to call my PCP but because they were UH my PCP couldn't help but I had to get out of this shitty place... SO i threatened bodily harm and I was finally after 2 days of saying it I was released home on the 3rd day, with nothing no walker no wheelchair for home. THANK GOD for Cleveland Clinic my PCP jumped in both feet and got me all that I needed and a nurse, home Physical Therapy... I will NEVER make this mistake again IN LIFE!!!!! JUST DON"T IS MY RECCOMMENDATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
