Just tried this place for the first time after seeing all the glowing reviews, and unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back. First, be aware of the card upcharge. There's an additional charge for paying by card that wasn't very clear to me at the time of ordering (see receipt), so just keep that in mind. Second, the service was really disappointing. I asked the server/cashier about kibbeh, but she forgot about it, so I said no worries and that I'd get it next time. But then she continued forgetting other items. I was the only person sitting down in the entire restaurant at the time, yet she forgot my water and completely forgot my falafel, which was a separate transaction. I waited at least 20 minutes for it and had to get up multiple times to ask for my food and water. That was especially frustrating since I did leave a tip :/ And finally, the food just wasn't 5-star for me. It wasn't bad, but the only thing I really loved was the mint lemonade. Also it was awkward being there because the cashier kept fighting and yelling with the chef who was also screaming. Lol. I came in randomly seeing the signage on my drive somewhere else. Whoever was taking my order was very friendly. I ordered the Amena salad. I liked my salad, but I did not necessarily love it. I would definitely need to come back to get a better gauge of the food. There were some observations I made about the place that I feel are important to note. 1. There is a sign that says food might take longer to come out which is why I opted for a salad. I didn't necessarily have that time to wait for food. I noticed that the other patrons in the room did indeed have to wait a good amount of time to get their food. I didn't have that problem since I had ordered a salad. If you are on a time crunch, this is probably not the best place to go seek out. 2. There is a vegan/vegetarian portion of the menu, which I found nice for people who have that food restriction. 3. I got the impression that some customers in the room may have been regulars based off of the interaction between them and the staff. I take that as a good sign that makes me want to try something beyond a basic salad. read more

This place is bomb! I would have to say this is now my and my family's favorite Mediterranean restaurant. It is located in a small plaza but the inside is roomy and cozy. You order at the front and then seat yourself, and the staff were very nice and answered all our questions as there were some new items we were not familiar with. We ordered the combo special plate (one beef and one chicken skewer), shish Taouk (chicken skewers), shakshuka, chicken shawarma plate, veggie combo tapas plate, and homemade lemonade between a family of four. The food took at least 10 minutes to prepare but everything was made fresh. The homemade lemonade was mixed with a ton of mint, and it ended up tasting more minty than lemonadey; I give it a 5 out of 5. Chicken Shwarma - the chicken was the best marinated chicken I've had at a Mediterranean restaurant thus far, and I've gone to many. The salad, rice, and hummus were also very good. 5 out of 5. Shakshuka - The portion was on the smaller side but it was full of flavor and the eggs were perfectly cooked. Came with four pieces of pickle, which paired well with the shakshuka. 5 out of 5. Shish Taouk - This was new to me and the chicken skewer/kabob was seasoned perfectly and juicy off the skewer. Not a hint of dryness whatsoever, and it tasted so good with the tzatziki sauce. 5 out of 5. Veggie Combo Tapas Plate - came with baba ganoush, hummus, tabbouleh, Mediterranean salad, and falafel. Portion great for sharing. Everything tasted delicious and my husband, who struggles with GERD, said he did not have a reaction after eating and of these (especially the hummus). 5 out of 5. The service was great; the employee always checked up on us and got us sauces and drinks. Bathroom was clean, and there were quite a few folks coming in (this is a good sign). New location for Mediterranean food SW of town. Conveniently located off of the freeway in a plaza with plenty of parking. There's decent amount of seating inside, no outside seating. They are still getting into their groove but it was nice to see that there were repeat customers while I was there. I also met the owner and partner. They were both very friendly and ready to strike up a conversation. I went for lunch on Saturday and I was the only one there so it was pretty quiet and quick. A few people arrived shortly after and sounded like they've been there before. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate which came with a salad, rice, hummus and one pita bread. The pita was nice and freshly baked. The chicken shawarma was their take on it, not the traditional kind which was a little disappointing. Tasted fine but not the traditional flavoring and process. I also tried both the katayef- walnut and cheese. Definitely like the walnut one. And tried the baklava which theirs was made with almonds. Amena Cafe is a fantastic restaurant located on Jones and Badura. You'll find them in a small plaza with good parking. Inside is a casual atmosphere with adequate seating and lovely Mediterranean music playing. Menu offers a nice selection of salads, soups, specialty dishes, grilled plates, vegetarian and vegan dish, as well as desserts and drinks. Falafel Plate ($15.51) is very filling and delicious! It comes with seven balls of deep-fried crispy and moist chickpeas, served with creamy hummus, fresh pita bread, and a refreshing salad of green and red cabbage with a hint of citrus, diced tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, and pickled red beets, it's delightful and really good! Also tried various desserts including Knafeh (small, $10.34) which is a delicate sweet crunchy noodle pastry filled with melted cheese and topped with chopped pistachios, it doesn't come with syrup and you can request for it. This pairs nicely with Hot Tea ($3.92), and they use black tea that is strong and soothing. Baklava ($3.61) is good too but also very sweet. Pastry is nice and crispy with walnuts filling and sweet syrup, I ate just a tiny portion. My personal favorite is Ma'amoul cookies (2 pieces, $6.19), it's a traditional Lebanese shortbread butter cookie that has delicious fillings such as walnuts, pistachios, or dates, and these are outstanding! The cookies are freshly made in house and baked with a light golden exterior crisp. I tried one with walnuts which has a beautiful crunch, is lightly sweetened, and so yummy! The other cookie has dates, it's delightful, very smooth consistency almost like jam, not too sweet, and excellent! They also offer desserts like Katayef (a small folded pancake stuffed with nuts or sweet cream) and Chocolate Quicker (similar to chocolate balls). Very helpful on explaining the food and made sure that the food we order is to our liking. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share- hummus, zataar flatbread, fries, and kibbeh. They had different sauces in the table and also gave us tzatziki. They give you plenty of bread- made in house. The chicken and beef shawarma were delicious- flavorful and not dry, comes with rice and salad. The lentil soup is so good. Beef kofta plate is delicious. This place is a gem! We have been wanting to try it, and we finally made it here today. Everything we ordered was great and home made. We got the grape leaves and kibbeh for our appetizers--both so delicious! We also got the steak & chicken kabob plate, which came with a generous portion of hummus and salad, plus pita bread. Iced tea was great and free refills. Homemade pita and babaganoush was yummy. Lentil soup was a huge serving; not as thick as I'm used to but we enjoyed it. We were traveling and our tastebuds were craving something new and exciting. We did a search of restaurants in the area and Amena Cafe popped up. What a find! When dining, there is service and then there is service + hospitality. At Amena, from the moment we walked through the doors, Asim (co-owner) greeted us with the best hospitality and service we've received in years!! Asim made recommendations that were on point, the food was absolutely flavorful, and he checked on us as if we were guests in his home. I have an aversion to overcooked and bone dry meat so I was crossing my fingers when I ordered the Beef Kofta plate. Wow, wow, woooowwwww. The beef was delicious and I could even break it apart with my fork. We ordered hummus (pictured on my plate) and that was rich in flavor as well. My child ordered lentil soup and ate it ALL.
