Though we didn't sit in the restaurant proper, the magic of modern technology (a wee QR code) brought the feast straight to our table without missing a beat. We started with the Sausage Sampler, a delightfully hearty offering with the O'Malley Stout Banger and Lil Lucy's hot pepper sausage, served up with a tangy beer mustard and house BBQ sauce. Cut into perfect little circles for sharing--though truth be told, I was tempted to keep them all for myself! At $8.99, it was a steal fit for a thrifty lass. Next up, the Scotch Eggs ($8.99)--two glorious hard-boiled eggs, lovingly wrapped in sausage and fried to golden perfection. If there's a food that makes you believe in miracles, this was it. Absolutely divine! And, of course, what Irish outing would be complete without Fish & Chips? At $14.99, the cod was fried to crisp perfection, and the zesty remoulade gave it a delightful kick. The fries were standard, but let's be honest, we were too busy savoring the rest to mind. From appetizers like the Scotch eggs (so good) , Irish Egg rolls, fried cheese curds, and fried pickles to the sausage sampler (sausage made by Fritz's with their own Stout or Little Lucy hot pepper ale), to the Shepard's pie, Cajun chicken or chicken fried chicken just perfect. Salads, sandwiches and so much more. Served up by a friendly staff. Beers made in house served up on a sample tray. There's nothing quite like a small town restaurant, so if you're looking for one, America Bowman is your destination. The dining room and surroundings are pretty old school, paper napkins, kerosene lamps on the table which they'll light if you request, and hearty helpings of everything so there's not a chance you're going to leave hungry. We opted to share a beer and cider sampler of 7 small glasses between three of us for lunch. That included their signature cream ale, but it was the hard cider that really stood out and stole the show. For lunch two of the three split the Shepard's Pie which was plenty for both, particularly after the massive basket of fried cheese curds with a dipping sauce. I opted for a seared salmon sandwich that came with fries--and a lot of them--too many for my appetite. No problem, as we had someone at home to bring a meal to. Service was polite and friendly and the prices are not unreasonable for a town this size. A real enjoy meal and a nice option for one of the main dining spots on the main street. If you're coming after 5:00, strongly suggest a visit next door to O'Malley's underground pub. There's nothing like it in the region. All major credit cards accepted. Cute little restaurant and brewery in a quaint little town. Nestled into the hilly landscape of Weston, this little place screams of haunted houses and old school energy. When I walked in and looked around there was cases of beer on the floor - not like merch display but more like getting organized but didn't finish the job. No big deal. The front staff were all sitting on the bench and greeted me from sitting which threw me off. No big deal, just a little unprofessional from the start. Sat down, ordered a pretzel and a flight of beer. Of the seven pours of beer, only one was worth the calories - the O'Malley Stout - stunner of the night! I had the Shepard's pie for dinner - really tasty just not hot. I get it, it is a reheat item but it was almost cold in the middle. Did I send it back, no - for the following reason. I witnessed a very uncomfortable interaction between what looked like a manager and the waitstaff. The manager brought my food out and then told the waitstaff that they were responsible for getting food to their tables - this was done in a very curt manner. Overall, food was OK. Stopped in on. Thursday @ 2:30. Not very busy...ordered fried pickles, delicious and very generous for sharing. The pot of gold drink was strong on pineapple and very light on Malibu and sour apple. The flight was a good deal but unfortunately flat. Possibly the tsps had not been used and beer sat in line ( disappointed) . Had my traditional birthday meal at America Bowman in Weston last night. It's always a given that we get the scotch eggs, because they're just cooked perfectly with a light honey mustard like sauce. (Two hard-boiled eggs wrapped in our house made sausage, breaded and fried to crispy perfection). Dinner is always a toss-up between the Shepard's Pie (Ground beef topped with Irish Stout gravy, green beans, colcannon potatoes, cheddar cheese and served with a pub roll) and Beef in Stout (Tender beef sirloin and onions in a Gaelic sauce served up hot with colcannon potatoes and a pub roll.) I was happy to find that they now do take reservations, so you can stop in while you're out and about in Weston and make a reservation for your dinner time, it was much appreciated! The service is always friendly and fast, and they serve Weston brewing beers on tap. The atmosphere is mostly candlelight, so it's hard to get a good photo unless you sit outside. Trust me though, photos aren't necessary to understand how absolutely delicious their food is. read more

This was my second time at the American Bowman. The first time was in the summer, and we had a large group (12+) and the service was not on it's A-game, so that why I've got to take a star off. This time I went with a group of 8. Our waitress was so wonderful, service was fast and the food was great! It's a cute place a little drab inside, but if you want that classic country vibe in Weston, it's spot on. To start we had the fried pickles, cheese curds and Scotch eggs. I would recommend all of these, but the cheese curds were my favorite because they were super fresh and delicious! Our waitress recommended the cheddar ale soup, so I had that with my meal and it was incredible. Very comforting and has a light ale flavor to it. The crispy chicken sandwich was basic, but prepared well. There was a sauce that came with the Scotch, and I'd recommend getting that on the side with the sandwich. The fries were just what you'd expect at an Irish style pub, thick, crispy and soft in the middle. So good! Everyone else in my group enjoyed their meals! Admittedly it's been a while since I've been here, but I'm going into my memory during Covid-19 to update/pen reviews for some highlights over the years. American Bowman was always such a fun day trip for us back in the day. We went up there for fish & chips, an unbelievably good burger, Irish Fest in October, and many pints as well. The inside is a throwback, like something from the late 1800s in a way. Kerosene lit candles, creaky wooden floors -- kinda fun. Sometimes the service was so bad that it made me wonder if we'd come back, but we always did. It was particularly rough service during Irish Fest. The location is near the heart of Weston, just a block or two off of the main street, and in a small walkable town like Weston, it's perfect. read more

Yes... you COULD order your first beer right at the table and it is usually the same stuff they have on tap downstairs... but WHERE is the fun in that! The hostess and waitresses are the kids/family members of the brewers and other local townsfolk. See above comment on RELAXED atmosphere. -The menu is a cross between an old Irish pub and small country restaurant. If you want an avocado laced poultry surprise sandwich with some chutney then you are again in the wrong place. RANT: Ok... As I was driving back to Kansas City, I passed a sign on the side of the road that said "brewery" and "next exit". As I hadn't had lunch yet, and it involved unique beer, I was totally in and made a swift exit. The restaurant / pub / brewery (though, they all have different names?) is nestled in a hard-to-find spot in the small town of Weston. (The town itself is super cute and the perfect historical small town to spend an afternoon in.) After randomly managing to locate this place, it appeared rather unassuming and not at all what I would have expected. Upon walking into the dining area, I felt like I had been transported back in time. It was as if something out of the colonial days had mated with a traditional pub in rural Ireland. I was digging it. Small, dark, and cozy. 4 stars. I opted for a sampler, of course. And also the Guinness beef with a side of cheddar and ale soup. The beers were quite good. All were above average and the Pub Warmer Ale was a definite standout. 4 stars. The soup, which was served as a first course, was pretty bad and almost inedible. 1 star. The Guinness beef was a pleasant surprise. Nice and tender and the potatoes were very good. 3.5 stars. The service was great...at first. But once a large group arrived, it was almost as if I was no longer there. Very nice folks, but when something out of the ordinary happens, they can't quite handle it. 2.5 stars. I came here with my best friend while enjoying a day in Weston, and was pleasantly surprised by the offerings. It was a beautiful day out so we sat on the patio. We not only decided to get the beer flights (because why not), but of course had to get some food to go with it. We couldn't decide so we went with an assortment of apps. We chose the soft pretzel, Irish egg rolls, and a side of fries. The soft pretzel wasn't as dense as I was used to, but almost had the texture of fried dough - delicious! The Irish eggrolls were SO good. They were a little on the greasy side, but honestly with the beer it was perfect. The fries are thicker and were served with ranch. We also both really enjoyed the flights of beer as well. I would absolutely say to stop here and even just getting the assortment of appetizers and beer was a great choice! I split my time between Atchison and Kansas City, so it's only natural that I try to find a place to eat in Weston. The America Bowman Keeping Room is the only restaurant among the O'Malley's Pub/Weston Brewing Company complex (which I learned after a tired, annoyed response from a server), and it isn't bad, but it does leave something to be desired. The food has some hits and misses. Coming from Wisconsin, I adore a good beer cheese soup, and the Bowman's Cheddar & Ale soup is fantastic. You can taste the beer and the cheese, and it has the right amount of viscosity: it's not thick like a fondue but it's not runny. I highly recommend the Scotch Eggs. It's a like a crispy breakfast in your hand, with it's egg and sausage encased in a perfectly fried, crispy bread coating. So good. As for the misses, I just don't understand making fish & chips with tilapia. The fish was thin, dry, and had an off-flavor. The O'Malley sandwich *can* be good but the last two times I got it the sandwich was dry and lacking as much flavor as the first few times I had it. The kids menu is okay. My kids usually get the chicken tenders. You get a good amount for the price you pay, which is nice. It's been a while since we got the mac & cheese, but I believe it's just Kraft. I've never been blown away from the service. I think they just switched to a mobile/iPhone-y ordering system, and the first few times we went there the server would stand there trying to figure out how to put the order in her device. The servers range from nice and professional to a little gruff but professional. American Bowman Keeping Room is a decent option if you're in Weston, but if you drive an extra few minutes North to Atchison you can get better food at Pepper Mill & Co or Cedar Ridge or you can drive South to North Kansas City and try the multiple dining options there. If you do go here, though, the beer cheese soup, Scotch egg, and the case of Weston Brewing Company beer for $20 deal might make your visit worth it. read more

This place aesthetically reminds of colonial life, and when gazing into the main dining room, dimly lit by candlelight, you'd think as much - how novel, and frankly exciting. But we were not placed in that room - we were placed in the starkly lit room adjacent, with all the building code violations befitting a family-owned meat-packing establishment, but managed by the old man from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The thing about family owned - and I don't know whether this is or not - is that the owners either funnel all profits into their pocket, or all profits directly into the experience for customer: be it food quality, interior design, top-level staffing, building upkeep, etc. it seems to me that not much of their earnings make their way back to the main attraction. Additionally, it could have been because I wasn't wearing shitkicker boots, but the Missouri wandering eye was ubiquitous inside that place - I locked gaze with at least 27 people passing through that ship-galley sized reception room. I was sure we were going to be massacred at any minute by the children of the corn. The small-town staff seemed a sort of helpful bothered, touching their phones often, and communicating as though 9 people weren't waiting to be seated mere feet from their private conversation. We ordered the fish and chips. This might have been the most aggressively fried "cod" I've ever had the misfortune of receiving. The fries - equally flash fried, probably in the same basket - had taken just as much a turn for the worst, and the salad - what with it's raspberry "vinaigrette" was just offensively tart. Never mind our waitress brought into the dining room a wafting taste of her cigarette break, we took a small bite of the fish and left. I loved the food here. The ambience is great too, for a old-timey, Irish experience. It took a while for us to get seated and then served. We were given a table right next to the restrooms, which had a lot of traffic and were kinda gross (the women's room sink was filled to the brim with dirty water!), so that was a con. Servers were great! They were nice and friendly, and brought our food and drinks out pretty quick The cheddar and ale soup is AMAZING! I got the salmon sandwich, and the salmon portion was huge and so delicious. The salmon was cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection! BF got the ham and cheese pye, and was expecting a hot pocket type thing, only to be pleasantly surprised with a freshly cooked, delicious pie with a flakey pastry crust. It went wonderfully with the cranberry chutney. Soooooooo gooood, I love this place. The bar atmosphere is all at O'Malley's next door, this place was pretty quaint and quiet. I am SOOOO coming back here again, I'll just request not to sit next to the restroom next time. Fish and chips are usually always great. Service is spotty though. Also they're not good at coursing your meal. If you want to be able to eat your appetizer before your entrée comes, don't order your entree until after the appetizer comes out. Sitting outside, other servers were in regular view constantly. OUR server however took forever to show up and then never reappeared. Let me start by saying I had aimed to go to the pub next door but didn't know how to get there. That being said the food here was sub par. Nice staff saved it from a 1 star. I had the fish and chips, bad choice. The fish was totally past it's prime and the chips were stale. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich. My wife is a notoriously bad orderer so I won't review her sandwich. Her mom had something that reminded me of a roast beef and mashed potatoes dish and her father had a sandwich that he seemed happy with. The dining rooms are small and lit with Kerosene lamps. As other reviewers have stated, it is like stepping 100 years into the past. The food is solid, Irish- pub fare. I had the O'Malleys corned beef on rye and it was good. Others in my parties had bangers and mash, pub burgers and onion rings. All were good. We ate here our first night in Weston. Not much on the ambiance, but my irish rueben was quite tasty and the service was friendly. The hubbies steak had about as much fat as steak. Keep your receipt - it will serve as free cover next door at the bar. My favorite part was the brewery tour - you can buy tickets at the hostess desk. We got to see the world's largest ball of string, learn about how they make their beer, tour the secret cellars, and try 5 of their local brews. The first time I ate here was about 8 years ago when my wife and I were spending a day in Weston. We waited a good 20-30 minutes to be seated in a cramped waiting area. When we finally were seated it was at a not-quite clean table already occupied by about 5 flies. But then...then it happened. Two guys lifted up a wooden door outside on the deck to reveal a walk-up grill type of area. We saw people walking up, getting food and SMILING! We wanted to be those people. We bid adeu to our fly friends and yet to be seen waitress and headed outside. There, on the sunny October afternoon I ordered the greatest hot dog of my life and a beer. It was covered with celery salt and delicious. My wife and I sat in the sun enjoying the amazing hot dogs, laughing at the poor bastards inside. Now, about 3 years ago my wife and I ended up here by chance on a late weekend evening. We were seated immediately. The place was very clean and it had a very nice, low-lit, candle-light ambiance going on. I ordered the bangers and mash and it was fantastic. There was hair from the kitchen in the crab cakes. My drink sat empty for long enough that we asked another waitress for a refill. This is the second time I have tried this place. The service is consistently lacking in general. The food is sub-par. We left Weston shortly after this with a bout of intestinal issues and nausea. The food at Bowman Restaurant left a lot to be desired. I was a little hesitant to try it in the first place based on the Yelp reviews. However, we were coming back from Pirtle Winery and the weather was fantastic so it was a perfect time to enjoy the large outdoor seating area. After being disappointed in the menu selection, I settled on the Turkey Bistro sandwich and while huge, it completely lacked any flavor. The french fries were not fresh cut and also lacked flavor. My advice is to drop by O'Malley's for some solid beer and a good time but eat elsewhere unless the meal is occurring after several beers in which case it won't matter. read more

My party enjoyed all of our food, I had the pork steak wrapped in bacon (pretty good) with the potatoes and a veg, but the cheddar ale soup was faaaaabulous. The sandwich normally comes w/ fries (McDonald's style) but I prefer think-cut so, they happily substituted for a small bowl of their equally wonderful Cheddar and Ale soup. It reminds me of a cheddar broccoli consistency but spiced w/ beer flavor and no veggies inside. Service was friendly and inviting. Atmosphere was casual and friendly (also seems very popular w/ the biker crowds on the weekends). I sat outside and enjoyed the sun in their backyard deck seating (if you don't mind smoke). My family has gone here for the past three years for dinner to celebrate birthdays and then we go to O'Malleys for drinks after. For some reason they ALWAYS try to stick us in the dark front room of the restaurant. I make reservations every year and even request we DO NOT sit in that room. Without fail they try and this year was the worst experience. The hostess was down and out rude and should not have a job serving the public. The waitress in the "dark" room was also rude. The manager agreed they needed to use the lights, which are oil lamps that do not produce hardly anything, but never said a word to us directly. He never apologized for the staff or anything, but went to the tables around us to ask how everything was. Thank goodness there was a sweet young lady that waited on us in the back room or they would have ruined the evening for all of us. All together we spent $400 between the restaurant and bar that night, and that is how we were treated. The sad part is that their food is usually good and we have always enjoyed it. That being said, sorry American Bowman, but this was the last year you will be a part of our celebration. We will find another restaurant that knows how to treat their guests. read more
