Worst service ever! We had an accident in Big Bear and had to get the front fixed. It took them a month to do the work and when we went back to get the car we discovered that they had sprayed primer all over the plastic parts of my front bumper and on the windshield. I can still feel the primer on some parts of the car. They handed the car back to us unwashed. One of the parts they got had a broken piece which they still used without telling or warning us. We discovered that the piece was broken and went back to the shop, they promised they'd send us the piece by mail. It's been 2 months and still, NOTHING. Worst place ever, don't go there. read more

My gas tank cap was cross threaded and I was unable to remove it to fill the tank. I pulled into American auto body and Mike came out and spent at least 15 minutes trying to get it off and finally had to break the cap and remove it piece by piece. I asked him how much I owed him and he refused to take any money in compensation. Without his help, I would have been stranded. His business card says "we make friends by accident" and he certainly made one with me ! read more

They say a photo is worth 1000 words... apparently not always.... After our Tahoe was thoroughly damaged in bear mountain's parking lot... of course no note left, the folks at American patiently worked with our insurance company to be sure that they had a full understanding of the extent of the damage and thus ensured the resources would be available to properly and thoroughly repair our car. While, like most things, I wish it was done more quickly, they were professional and understanding in explaining exactly how the process was going and were accurate with their timelines. I'm grateful to find a competent shop in the area and recommend them without hesitation. read more

My car has been here for three months and they refuse to work on it. First they stalled when it came to putting in a claim for additional work. I can now see that is a tactic they use to buy themselves more time. They will not update you so you have to go in for an update. They keep saying they are waiting on parts which is a lie. Two weeks ago I was told they had all of the parts and it would be another week before they could get to my car. Today I am told they are waiting on parts again which is a lie. They have had my car for 3 months and refuse to work on it. I am working on having my insurance company send it to another shop since it is obvious they are refusing to work on it. From what I can see there is 2 people working on cars so things move very slow here. Do not bring your car here unless you are fine with not having it back for several months and constantly being lied to. It is obvious they are in the wrong line of work. I regret bringing my car here. I will never come back to this shop. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had. I was in a car accident in Big Bear this past February and took it to this shop for lack of other options. It was an almost brand new honda civic and was not driveable. They kept my car sitting at their shop for over 2 months and hadn't even started to work on it for several weeks. They left my windows down during a snow storm which severely stained the seats. They stored dirty parts in my car as it was sitting there which stained the ROOF of my car, and then made the inside smell filthy. The outside and inside were disgusting when I came to pick it up even though they insisted that it had been 'detailed' before pickup. Not only that, after 2 months they still were not complete with the repairs even after I had been checking each week. Finally they said give us another week. When it was time to pick it up, after arranging for a ride and changing my entire weekend schedule, I make the 3 hour trek to finally pick up my car. Assuming everything would be back to almost perfect condition (as it was pre-accident), I arrive to a total mess. Besides it being disgusting inside and out and the inside smelling like pure dirt, half the repairs were incomplete. The rim of my car was still dented, the lower panel was literally hanging off the car, there were 2 window panel issues presenting gaping holes between the window and door, and because they stored parts in my car, there was a massive scratch across my audio screen. I took photos after the accident of exterior and interior, so it was definitely caused by American Auto Body. Not only that, it was returned to me unsafe to drive. The suspension spring was not reinstalled properly, so a clicking sound was coming from the underbody for my entire drive back (I took it to a proper body shop in my own area to fix all the mistakes and hell this place caused). My entire car was misaligned and needed major body work just to fix the damage caused by them. This was a 9 month ordeal instead of a 5-6 week job. My advice - pay the extra amount to have your car towed to a proper establishment rather than leave your car at this place. They were unprofessional, unresponsive, and had extremely poor workmanship. I wish I had better things to say, and I rarely write reviews. After being injured and distraught from the car accident, this was the last problem I wanted to deal with - I was so disappointed with this entire experience. read more

Not only did they do an excellent job, but they ensured the repair was done in 24 hours so my car would be ready for the drive back before I was supposed to check out of my Air BnB and head back down the mountain. They even delivered the car to my cabin since I didn't have a way to get back to the shop! From the office to the management to the mechanics -- I experienced nothing but excellent service. If I could give zero stars, I would. This experience has been a nightmare. The estimate said work would take ten days. On the 31st day, I called again to check on my vehicle and was told it was ready. I grab an Uber to pick it up. When I got home, I looked at the work area and found that the work was incomplete. The running board that was to be replaced was not replaced. It is loose and not secured to the body. There is white paint drip and specs all over the running board. When I return to American Auto Body, I want to discover why the work was incomplete. I am met with a guy who calls me a dick and an asshole. He puffs out his chest like he wants physical confrontation. Do the job you were paid for, and there won't be any issues. I was consistently given false promises. Every week, I was told my vehicle would be ready next week. Only to be fed the same line the following week. Another time I asked when my vehicle would be ready and I received a non answer to which I replied, that didnt answer my question. I was then glared at and told, "Well, that's the answer you will get." This isn't even the end of the nightmare it has been dealing with American Auto Body. My insurance company tells me I must take it back there or file a new claim to get the repairs done right. Here I am, almost $6000 later, 31 days for a ten-day estimate, and the rudest, most confrontative people I have ever dealt with, and my vehicle is still not repaired. read more

All the paint on my 05 Jeep Wrangler's hood was cracking and peeling off. Looked really terrible. Common problem on jeeps of that period. Took it in to American and I was given a very reasonable quote to strip the paint off the whole hood, undercoat, and repaint matching the original color. As busy as they obviously were I was still told it would be done in about a week. I did not expect a perfect color match on a 14 year old car. Mark the owner, called me to come pick it up about 7 days later. Mark personally walked me over to inspect the finished product. My Jeep looked great and with a very good color match. Mark had a very friendly professional staff. I gave Mark a check for the exact amount of the quote and felt it was a very fair transaction. I'm happy and will definitely not hesitate to come back. This establishment was the only place that looked under our hood (went to two different places before finding this one on Google Map) Mark informed us of the cracked radiator but assured us we should be fine to get back home and fix the problem locally. Been waiting for a estimate for over a month.. stopped by and the front desk chick took pictures of my truck and said I'd get a call back with a quote soon. Two weeks later, a guy calls me back asking me if I still want the quote? I said yes, and he said he would call me back. A week later, I called asking for my quote and waited on hold for 15 mins and then was promised someone would call me by the end of the day.... that was 2 weeks ago. This place is a joke. You would be better off having your toddler attempt to repair your car with his plastic tools. I dropped off my vehicle on June26 for a headlight/fender repair from a low-speed collision. "Bill" (if that is even his real name), told me the repair would take "about a week", and cost $1400. 17 days later, and my vehicle still isn't finished. He now tells me they have to "wait for more parts" which means AT LEAST another three days. And, the repair cost has magically jumped to $3500! Bill's co-worker, "Mark" (if that is even HIS real name!), has talked to me twice as well, and tells me different reasons than Bill as to why the vehicle isn't done. I advised Mark that he needs to communicate with Bill better, because Mark's BS to me is quite different than Bill's BS to me(funny sidebar: "Bill" and "Mark" throw each other under the bus everytime they talk to me...that sounds like a healthy working relatiionship - NOT). I will follow-up when (or should I say "if") I get my vehicle back. In the meantime, if you need your vehicle repaired, go ANYWHERE else but this place.... UPDATE: today is july 18th. i have talked to "mark" a few times since my post. most recently, on Monday, july15, he said they were "finishing up the vehicle...and waiting for another part", but that the vehicle would be finished by no later than wed, july17. he also said that "if anything changed", he would let me know asap. well, i just called over there. "mark" is off today, and the nice lasy who answered the phone said she had no idea, but would "find out". i'm starting to think they took my vehicle to another shop to get repaired...or maybe someone "borrowed it" and is taking it on a cross-country joyride. staying calm until i receive the vehicle...will pay the ransom with a smile on my face. then, after i get my hostage back, i will take every legal measure i can to make sure this never happens again from this joke of a place. further updates on their way as this soap opera continues!.... FINAL UPDATE: picked up my car on July19. almost a full month after dropping it off. "mark" was there, and apologized profusely for the problems, while handing me the invoice. i guess "mark" had been sniffing automotive paint and forgot that he had told me he would be discounting the invoice "ridiculously"...because he only deducted $200 off the already insanely-priced invoice...and acted like he was doing me a favor. i guess greed kicked in at the last minute for good ol "mark". well, "mark" the joke is on you. i guess in hindsight you will thank me for helping you improve your business someday...either that, or you will be out of business. this is not the last "mark" will be hearing from me. im not the kind of guy you take advantage of. in the meantime, steer clear of this place!!... read more

When we had an accident in Big Bear last weekend, American Auto Body totally saved the day. We weren't sure if we would need to have our car towed back to LA or if we would have to spend a long time with a rental, but American Auto Body was able to have the work done in a very reasonable time frame and had a solid rental to offer us in the meantime. Steve was extremely helpful and accommodating, and he knew a lot about Subarus. Plus, the final cost ended up being less than the original quote he gave us. Highly recommend not going to this body shop. Had an accident a few days before Christmas and took my truck there for repair. I am back for a 2nd time still trying to get my truck fixed. Was just there last week to have them install a new power steering tank because it had a crack in it from the accident. Now I am back to get the horn fixed because that doesn't work. All I want is my truck fixed is that to much to ask. Had to go down the mountain to get Redland Ford to get airbag light cleared because they couldn't do it. Oh and did I mention the inside of my truck was a mess. Coffee that I was drinking the day of the accident and spilled all over the place was still in there. It is always scary to have an accident when you are out of town, on a weekend, when nobody is open. My son had an accident while visiting Big Bear -- it was pretty severe and we weren't even sure the 2010 Impala was worth fixing, but he only had liability insurance and he can't afford a new car. The lone towing company in town told us there was no place who could do that kind of work (a lie), and he wanted to tow it down the hill (a $500 towing bill). Instead, we did our own research and contacted Bear Mountain Motor Carriage. They did absolutely beautiful work. I wish I could share pics because it looked like a sardine can, and when they were done, it looked brand new. Cherry on the cake: my son is a Purple Heart veteran and when they saw his plates, they gave him a very fair price and detailed his car as well. What a blessing, because he truly couldn't afford this accident. The repair did take a couple of weeks because they were searching for less expensive parts, but we were grateful for that.
