3.5: A good (very patriotic) stop for an informal local bite to eat after hiking Bear Mountain. For its location and its exterior, I was pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness, menu selection and that it has a rewards program and online ordering. Their menu includes tacos, quesadillas, chili, bowls, nachos, salads and of course burritos. They have a good selection of options, and a few for vegetarians and vegans. You order at the counter and then take a seat. They give you free chips and salsa at the salsa bar (the latter of which was basically 4 options). The food (fish burrito and chicken tacos) was satiating but not very flavorful (the burrito could have been helped with some cheese, spices, avocado and seasoning on the fish and the chicken in the taco was shredded and dry); the burrito portions were generous, even for the small burrito. On the plus side, I didn't get super thirsty from super salty food. Bring cash because there's an almost 4% fee on credit card purchases. Small parking lot out front but not sure if most people would dine here. The bathroom was also very clean. They seem to do a healthy takeout and delivery business, with free delivery to certain local spots. read more

The pluses: large portions, quick service, reasonable pricing and very clean. The minuses: limited parking, no alcohol, and not enough spice/heat. I ordered the Knightrider at the restaurant because I saw it had jalapenos and would be spicy -- Not! The salsa bar has 4 choices but they weren't spicy enough for someone who grew up in Southern California and ate lots of Mexican food growing up. Also, there was way too much rice in the burrito. Checking the web site after I got home, I found that I could have customized my burrito by adding jalapenos and get less rice but this wasn't mentioned at the counter. If you want spicy, you have to customize or you will be disappointed. If you want mild, you'll enjoy. read more

This place took an hour to deliver. But all that can easily be overlooked. the burrito named cold steel warmed my heart. It taught me how to love again. Ever have a bad month? Lost your job? Dog left you? You wont care anymore. Nothing matters when you get a mouthful of that jalapeno coleslaw mixed with the cowboy beans. Service was pretty awesome, took my order carefully and did not rush, plus throughly explained an item I was ordering, also next to no wait. I do enjoy they a small sauce bar off to the side for your order with cups, lids and a little to go bags for them. I would not recommend the habanero sauce though, just one taste of it and feels like pure fiery pain. Mild and verde are the best way. For small size for burrito it was freaking huge, I mean there was a large size for the thing and like how much bigger was large if small was epic. The filling, the fish was good and meaty, but bit salty, do wish there was more fish since the burrito was a lot of cilantro rice, and black beans, also the creamy habanero sauce was great, wish I had a cup it instead of straight habanero sauce at the sauce bar. For tacos,they were again huge in size, plenty of tender juicy brisket, with fair amounts of lettuce and tomatoes. Tacos could been more seasoned, but the mild sauce did do wonders on it. The Knight Rider burrito is my personal go-to favorite, but I like the option of getting a lighter meal like their fish tacos or Max's healthy chicken bowl... then there's the Pentagon which is always incredible. My husband and I were really hoping to make this our go to for burritos but this last visit we were pretty disappointed. We ordered our burritos ahead of time and picked up at the store by the time we got them home the burrito juices had leaked thru the bag. We live about 7 minutes away from the place and we were at the restaurant to pick them up within 10mins of putting in the order online. Stopped after picking my son up from USMA. We have heard about the food from the cadets and needed to try for ourselves. Staff is very nice and atmosphere is good. Burritos are big, plenty of taste only complaint is the wraps get a bit soggy with the ultimates burritos I've gotten. Service is pretty quick I've never dined in only taken out and it not have to wait a short time even when there's a whole lotta take out orders. The fact they don't give a military discount 5 minutes outside of west point's main gate is shocking. A giant chain like Chipotle gives a 50 percent military discount guys...if you name yourself American burrito outside of a military base and don't give a military discount you're nuts. read more

I don't recommend you order from here. The size of their food may be tempting but don't give in, my friends and I ordered 4 burritos, 3 tacos, 2 guacamoles and a coleslaw. The only items we enjoyed were the burritos and even that was mediocre at most. The chicken tacos we order gave us food poisoning and were disgusting. It was so bland that I wouldn't doubt they boiled the meat and threw it on the tortita. We also had ordered 2 hard shell tacos and 1 soft shell taco but ended up receiving 3 soft shell tacos. Guacamole was avocado spread with cilantro. Lacking in flavor, lacking in ingredients and just lacking overall. We ate some of it because it wasn't inedible but sure wasn't guacamole. The coleslaw was disgusting. It only tasted like watered down mayonnaise with a bit of jalapeno. I highly recommend you look some place else if you want to order at least decent mexican food. Food was decent, but extremely bad ambiance. While I was dining there, a young man ordered food, in which later two girls chased him into the bathroom with squirt guns. The staff of American burrito then assisted the girls in getting into the bathroom by supplying keys while they fought over the door in attempt to spray the young man. The boy asked the staff to kick the girls out due to their behavior and not even ordering food, but the employees paid no heed. read more

This place is DELICIOUS. Nontraditional tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The Hawaiian quesadilla is out of this world and so big that I personally can get two meals out of it. Great food, nice staff. Extensive menu fits a wide variety of tastes. One doesn't like very spicy - had a chicken & cheese quesadilla and was happy. I like more spice & more vegs - had the cabo salad with grilled chicken. Lots of grilled chicken on the salad, I slathered on the dressing and some salsa from the salsa bar. Ate outside and the staff offered to bring us our food, put up the umbrella - so nice. The food comes with some selected drinks too. We'll return. We did carry out but there are a few tables inside and one picnic table outside. It's five minutes from WP but they do deliver to campus. We had chicken quesadilla, a burrito, and a burrito bowl. We wished we were told before we left there was a salsa bar off to the side of the restaurant so we could've grabbed some. Food was delicious.
