10/28/24: Solid 4 Stars! Stopped in Hacienda Mexicana for lunch after visiting West Point. The decor inside and outside is really cool. Outside, you'll see two wild horse sculptures made from horseshoes. The inside is decorated in a festive Mexican motif. We were immediately seated and served ice water and tortilla chips with salsa. Our lunch entrees were chicken tacos and chicken flautas. Service was very good at Hacienda Mexicana. Afterwards, we commented to the manager about the stunning horse sculptures. He told us that they were shipped from Guadalajara. Extras: -According to the menu, there's takeout and delivery. - A decent size parking area is available. Definitely looking forward to an upcoming visit. Maybe to include cocktails! Cheers All! : D

    2. Taco, Enchilada, Tamale Combo Platter

I had a craving for Mexican food, so I decided to stop by. It was a very busy night due to an Army home game, so the service wasn't the best--it took quite a while before we could even place our orders. The chips and salsa for the table were delicious! For drinks, I ordered a Coronarita and a Piña Colada. I'd definitely recommend the Piña Colada. Being indecisive, I went with one of the combination platters, which came with three different items. However, the server walked away before I could specify what type of meat I wanted in each. There was a lot of food in the combo, so that was a positive. I also ordered the steak enchiladas, but the meat was very tough--talk about a jaw workout! I'd likely return just for the drinks. The décor is welcoming, and they offer outdoor seating, which adds to the overall atmosphere.

The food is fantastic and the ambiance is homey. The service was mediocre though. Looked like a mom and pop who were clearly bored. They didn't run the ac indoors so it was stifling hot, and frustrating to watch the staff stand around and stare at the wall while we waited for basic things.

Hacienda Mexicana was an excellent choice. It is located close to the West Point Military Academy and on its busy Main Street. The restaurant has a full bar, a vast indoor seating area, and an outdoor terrace area, as well. Their decorations/wall art are very festive and they incorporated Valentine's Day decor, as well. Before we get to the food, let me highly commend the service. From the moment that you enter, you're treated with white glove service. Our server was extraordinary and attentive, from start to finish. The complimentary warm chips and salsa was gone in a few minutes. Without even asking, we were replenished with both items. See what I mean, regarding the service? Oh, the same goes for the water. Constantly refilled, with a smile. My Classic Margarita was perfect. It was well crafted, strong, and in a much appreciated large glass. Every item that we ordered was DELICIOUS! The Chicken Soup was huge, the Cheese Quesadilla was tasty/cheesy, and my Pollo Langunilla (sautéed chicken, with portobello mushrooms, rice, salad and refried beans) was AMAZING. Every bite/spoonful of every item was delectable and take-home containers were required. I cannot recommend Hacienda Mexicana, enough. You will, most definitely, enjoy a memorable meal and return for more.

Such a cute place! Everyone is super friendly and place is clean. Food was delicious my only gripe is they could have spared some more cheese on the food. The tres leche cake is so good!!

A solid 4-star restaurant in this little Highland Falls town. Our airbnb hosts recommended Hacienda as their favorite local restaurant. Service and ambience were excellent! The chips and salsa were incredible so we had high hopes that the dinners would be the same. Unfortunately the main courses were just ok. However, the experience, the drinks, and the chips/salsa are worth returning for! Definitely a must-try spot if you're in town.

With so few restaurant choices in the area I was nervous but too my surprise this place is a hit. I experienced great food and a friendly atmosphere during my visit. My only negative was the tap system was down but overall I'd recommend visiting Hacienda Mexicana if your visiting the highland falls area.

    Cool horse art outside!

We found Benny Havens on Yelp and thought it looked worth a try. This place is what it is, a local institution that does what it does; if you want something else, go someplace else. It is of course unabashedly an Army bar. Sure it's a dive, but in the coziest, best sense of the word. The owner and staff were welcoming and the food was simple and honest. All they have is hamburgers/cheeseburgers and wings, and fries or onion rings! That's it! We had cheeseburgers and fries/onion rings and everything was fresh and tasty. The bar is a great big wooden thing and I bet it has stories to tell. The beer was cold and the whiskey tasty. It's cash only, so bring your greenbacks. I don't often have reason to stop at places like Benny Havens, but every time I do, I wonder why I don't visit more often.

We came for the burgers - and must admit was wary of going to a little pub for food- but they did not disappoint! The burgers were big and juicy and tasted like they had been grilled on a backyard bbq. (So good I forgot to snap a photo!) The fries were light and crispy (similar to McDonalds). We tried the chicken wings as well. They are fried and not as juicy as I typically like, but had a good flavor. It's a limited menu but there's a little something for everyone (chicken tenders, burgers, onion rings, mozzarella sticks). The waitress and bartender were both very kind and friendly to myself and my son, who were visiting West Point Academy for the weekend. We also met a couple of WP Alums who were meeting up and very nice and welcoming to us both. Def recommend if you're in town for a local experience - swing by for a burger and a beer!

I got in very late and Patton's was the only restaurant inside Thayer still serving food at 9 pm. I needed a stiff drink at this point, and took my chances on a dirty martini which came out with just the right amount of olive juice and really hit the spot. We put in a chips and guac order, and our mains. The food took a while to come out and service was a bit slow (also, the apps came out with the main food which kind of defeated the purpose of ordering an app). But I'm willing to overlook all of that because the prime rib hoagie with onion rings was so freaking good. Tender meat, lots of onions and cheese, juicy and served on a freshly toasted roll. The onion rings were crispy and airy without being too doughy. I was so happy. The guac was good too but I wish it came with actual chips, not plantains. Definitely recommend eating here if you come!

After eating there, I can confidently say Doug, your pub makes pretty good food. Our party of four was seated at a high-top, and the feasting began. They've got a great beer selection and took care of us right away. Food-wise, we started with the chicken wings, which were huge and packed with flavor. For me, the main event was the original patty melt. You know when something tastes homemade, but in the absolute best way possible? That was this burger. It was hot, juicy, and dripping with flavor, with perfectly caramelized onions and melted cheese. What really made it work was the bread, it still had a crunch instead of turning soggy. Every dip into the Thousand Island just made it better. The onion rings were a perfect sidekick. Around the table, my brother-in-law went with the Nutty Hog and enjoyed it, my sister liked her quesadilla, and my wife was happy with her chicken. No complaints anywhere. Between the sweeping views of the Hudson River and Hudson Highlands, the warm summer air, and a DJ keeping the atmosphere lively without overwhelming the conversation, it's the kind of place where you plan to stay for one drink and somehow the entire evening disappears. By the end of the night, our group had managed to eat our way through most of the menu. Nothing was trying to reinvent the wheel, but everything was well prepared, satisfying, and exactly what we wanted for a relaxed rooftop gathering. The food isn't the reason to come--it's the complete experience. Naturally, we leaned into the fun. The Moscow Mule served in a take-home copper mug was an easy decision, and once we spotted the "Double Tap" special (beer, shot, commemorative cup, and T-shirt), there was no turning back. We wanted to make sure we'd remember the night long after we crossed back over the river. The staff deserves a special mention. They handled our large group--including kids--with patience, flexibility, and genuine hospitality. Everyone felt welcome, which isn't always easy with a bigger party. As a former Marine Corps infantry officer, it pains me just a little to hand a five-star review to an Army establishment... but credit where it's due. Zulu Time earned it. I can't imagine the Hotel Thayer without this. The interior is stunning, with large cathedral ceilings, white tablecloths, and an open yet cozy atmosphere that gives you the classic feel of a traditional steakhouse. One of my favorite touches was the mural of Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, displayed prominently on the back wall. To start, we shared the applewood-smoked bacon appetizer. It was incredibly thick, smoky, rich, and absolutely delicious -- the kind of indulgence where you can practically feel your arteries clogging, but it's completely worth it. My wife and mother-in-law both ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly. My son and I shared the bone-in steak, and it was so large we couldn't even finish it. The sides were simple and classic: creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach, both done very well. For dessert, they brought out crème brûlée and chocolate mousse cake with a candle on top for my birthday. The staff gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday," which made the evening feel even more special and personal. A wonderful meal, a warm atmosphere, and a memorable celebration with family.
