Cattle-shute style clinic. They take two hours to complete a single appointment. Only three opthalmologists, and a myriad of waiting rooms stuffed to the brim with people. The "specialist", Mario I think his name is, was extremely rude. He didn't answer any questions, decided on my behalf that I required laser treatment for my one good eye when it didn't even show up on the photo. He literally wanted me to take his word for it. He said, and I quote: "It doesn't show in the photo." My primary care doctor was shocked to hear my experience and I advised her to tell her patients to avoid this clinic. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years and I must say I have never been disappointed. Office is very clean and welcoming & they have plenty of seats for all patients . Staff have great customer service , they are also very friendly & professional . As for the doctors they are all amazing especially Dr.Skaf . He is really good at making sure his patients fully understand everything before leaving there appointments. He goes into detail about eye concerns and his findings . Besides that they have a big parking lot I front so no street parking needed. .Definitely a place i recommend and will continue to go too. - Just know it is a very busy eye doctor office so you there will be wait times so be patient . read more

Dr. Ip is a fantastic eye surgeon. He is Professional, Caring and Very Hard Working. He took excellant care of me from the begining to the end. I had a catarac removed on March 8, 2024. He is extremely thorough and detail orientated. This review is an honest reiview I am not paid nor cohersed. I read reviews before I see a Dr. I should of written this before, I had a trigger thumb operation and it has taken awhile before I could comfortably type again. I would recommend this Dr. to anyone, he made me feel comfortable and listened to me when I discussed how I felt. Dr. Ip took the time to explain everything in detail that he would do while I was in surgery. Dr. Ip is really a GEM. One more thing, Dr. Ip is Very Easy on the EYES if you know what I mean. We had an appointment for 10:15, and didn't get called until 11:15. Then we proceeded to wait another nearly one hour waiting in a separate room to be called to have tests done. Very disappointed in their inability to properly handle their patients in a timely manner. My time here was wasted and the other patients have no regards to timeliness either. read more

I have not yet to see the doctor but the inept efforts of the assistance there almost scares me not to go there!! I am a veteran and I was refer to go to see them with something on my eyelids even though they had all the information that is required and arguing with them saying I need more I ask what is it she does not know!! I do not know how good the doctor is but the administrative assistance who takes appointments that are verify insurance are pretty bad this one star just represent customer service and poor Training!!! I wanna to duck a quick update a reason from one star to three stars because I received a phone call immediate upon this yup review from a very apologetic manager and I really really appreciate it! It's excellent in every way - great doctor, great staff - except expect to wait. They are so good, so everyone wants to see them. It's ok; just expect to be here about 2-3hrs. The office in Chula vista is big and has a roomy feel to it. I like this place much better than El Cajon. I would recommend Dr Skaf to anyone. My cataract surgery was a success from start to finish. Office personnel were friendly and quick in getting me in for pre operative appointment. On day of surgery staff was professional and timely. Dr. Skaf did surgery so that I was home within three hours. I was given eyedrops to use four times a day and an eye shield to wear for the first few nights. I followed doctor's instructions and my eye was totally healed by the time I went in for post operative appointment. I was shocked, there must have been 50 people in the waiting room. The wait was over an hour just to get into the first examination room. From then on things went much faster. The huge number of staff were very nice, everything was clean and orderly. Dr. Colin Ip (a cornea specialist) was very professional and knowledgeable. He took his time and explained everything to me about my eyes, and gave me recommendations too. I had cataract surgery last year so I wanted to be sure that nothing new had developed. We are so glad we tried this practice. The El Cajon office is easy to get to with plenty of parking. Comfortable waiting room, friendly front desk, staff that are professional, and efficient. Everyone from technicians to medical assistants to the doctors are friendly. They take time to explain what is happening thoroughly and make scary/difficult eye procedures comfortable. They were helpful with insurance and getting approvals, appointments are timely, treatments are excellent. The vision/eye check processes are very thorough and your eyes are checked in detail. I had fuzzy areas after cataract surgery and had a YAG done by Dr. Jessica Gomez. It was painless and cleared my vision significantly. This place has a lot of people working and a lot of patients. I have to say though the Dr that saw my mom and dad was nice and very caring. Dr Khandan did both their surgeries, in the first eye, and she is very thorough. And I am grateful to her as she explained a lot of things to them and she was patient with them. I have to say though the first couple of appointments were not great, we got an appointment for eye surgery and they said they will call us with the exact time for surgery on a specific day. Unfortunately no one called. The day before their appointment I called to see where to take my parents and I guess they canceled the appointment not sure why. We tried again and got their surgery for their first eye. The second surgery for moms right eye also was canceled they said because someone else needed urgent surgery... so they had to take my moms place. Even though my mom came back from Ecuador for her surgery... That felt like a punch in the stomach... not very nice. I think that was a scheduling problem someone dropped the ball. So my mom had to leave the country with only one eye done. So We schedule a surgery for dad and this time we meet Erika Garcia, she is the the BEST person we could ever find to help us make the appointments for surgery. Erika is really welcoming, professional and I can tell she genuinely cares for the patients. She is a breath of fresh air when it comes to taking her job seriously, You want her to schedule your loved ones appointment or yourself if you go there, Ask for her. She took the time to really listen to our concerns and she followed up multiple times to make sure we knew about the appointment, and the time for dads surgery, she even reached out while she was sick at home because she knew my dad needed to know what time to come for his appointment. Great experience at American Eye Associates. My ROCK STAR surgeon, Dr. Ayham Skaf, rescued my eye, which had been ravaged by the development of a macular hole. My vision in that eye was reduced to 20/200, to the point where an entire 18-wheeler would shrink out of vision if I tried looking with only that eye. In a multi-step process over the course of a year, Dr. Skaf and his team brought my eye back to normal. Initially, they repaired the macular hole. Then they checked on the eye periodically as it improved. Then they completed the process a year later to remove the cataract that predictably formed over the treated eye. Thank you to all the nurses and staff, and all the techs who gauged all the vision, pressure, and took all the high-tech photos of the inner world of my humble eye. What a phenomenal team! read more

I forgot to finish my review, this happened in September of last year. Something happened with my insurance and I called them and they told me not to worry about it. Later down the road a collection agency called me and explained that I had a bill that was outstanding and that if it wasn't paid it was going to be reported. I called the doctors to see if this was true and they stated they called me twice, but they did not. I tried working with them telling them I had insurance, but I guess something happened, nothing they can do about it since it's already to a collection agency. I checked my voicemails and my call logs I saw nothing besides the time I called them and they told me not to worry about it. I told them I will pay it, I do not want to do business with them anymore. I want to cancel any appointments I have, do not call me ever. They said okay we see you have an upcoming appointment we will cancel it, and we will not contact you. I guess they forgot to remove me from the system because I kept getting reminders of my upcoming appointment. read more
