I'm searching for results and not how long it took waiting for the doctors. These people need to know what a review is about. Did the cataract surgery go well or not? What there questionable results that you didn't like! Here an example of a proper review. My sister went for a surgery that resulted in her seeing worse that before surgery. She claims to see world because the of the doctors bad experience performing such. He eye sometimes bleeds between the lens and the cornea. In other words, the doctor who operated screwed up her right eye." This is a proper review and the purpose of communicating with the people who want to know if they are trustworthy or not! I saw a review about this doctor that gave him praise and went on and on about what a great surgen he is. This review was done by the clinic and not by a real patient. They used terminology not used by a normal reviewer. So, it was an "inside job". This is common to do this by people that get bad reviews all the time because they suck and this will maybe make believers of the naive and innocent people. This place is incredibly frustrating. I bring my mom here for her appointments, and every visit involves an excessive wait before she's finally seen. There seems to be little regard for patients' time. On top of that, they never call to confirm appointments. One time we arrived as scheduled and were told there was no record of her appointment at all. It really feels like they're overwhelmed with too many patients, which results in a lack of organization and prevents them from giving each patient the attention and care they deserve. They make you wait for about an hour and this after having given you an appointment approx 2 months in advance. Best experience at an eye doctor I've had! Doctor Scovill was very kind and patient with getting my prescription right. The whole staff communicated everything really well to me. My son was with me and he was very anxious and overwhelmed, but everyone was so kind to him. The Dr may be ok but the staff,in particular the lady who gives you the pre/post op instructions was very confusing, tried to convince me to get meds frm their Rx instead of my reg Rx (rite aid)made mistake on schedule which drops to use bf & after surgery...I had numerous appts when they did the same test. They seem to know what they are doing there despite the poor, indifferent service. I start sneezing profusely in the waiting room so they take me in quickly. They are great for yearly check ups and have some nice equipment but I would not trust them for any kind of surgery. I'd recommend looking around and getting references if you need eye surgery. read more

I'm rating this because of its poor reception staff. No empathy', not sincere to patients...We called in for an eye concern and we were told to come in at 1245. My mom went to reception while I parked and told them she has an appointment. They couldn't find it. My mom couldn't explain the reason for the visit or she forgot bec she's old 85. When I told them it's flaoters the reception starts putting blame on my mom that she didn't tell the reason for the visit. Then we were told it's walk in appointment, Dr. C has left for the day and we will be waiting for 2 hours bec there is so many patients. But initially at the phone call the reception says there is only one patient waiting. The phone attendant and front desk are not coordinated. They have empty promises. We had hopes that it would be some wait not long wait... This is the second time that happened. Front desk need training on good customer service. read more

Then comes the paperwork, which honestly had very little to do with my eyes and the reason for my visit. I have taken my mom here three times. The first appointment took over three hours! The next follow up appointment was rescheduled without our knowledge more than 10 days prior to the appointment. The staff said they tried to call, but were unsuccessful. They could have mailed a letter in 10 days and not wasted our time, but they didn't. So we arrived and we're told they rescheduled one month out and to come back then. Now we're here again, 10:00 am appointment, and have been waiting over an hour to be seen. We're ready to walk out, but hate to have to start this process all over again. WORST CLINIC EVER!! read more

My mother and I went to go ask a question in regards to an appointment and gave us an attitude. She treated us like if we were stupid. I needed emergency eye surgery a few weeks ago, basically my entire eyelid was filled with blood and it hurt like heck. Lily and Angie with the front desk team got me in ASAP with Dr. Bryant. He didn't beat around the bush, he started an excision procedure right away. About 45 min later I was done, bandaged up and on my way, 1 day recovery and the pain was gone. I am very grateful for the excellent care I received, especially because I see patients myself and can't afford any sick days.. A lot of the negative reviews about the office seem to be centered around the wait times to be seen, or patients not being able to always schedule same day appointments. I feel that this is due to them being a very busy clinic, they typically see 110+ patients per day, and I can tell you from experience that its sometimes impossible to accommodate absolutely everyone without some kind of wait time. read more

Been taking my parents to Dr. David and Maria Castillejos and yes, their amazing team. Dr. David performed cataract surgery on both of my mother's eyes and both had excellent results! I would highly recommend Dr. David as he is a remarkable surgeon! My mother's left eye has a slight abnormality which made the surgery more difficult, but Dr. David was able to work around it and my mother is able to see perfectly. Dr. David is extremely knowledgeable and has excellent skills. His positive energy always lights up the room. His warm sense of humor puts you at ease. My mother put off having cataract surgery for about 10 years because she was afraid she would loose her eyesight like my father when he had cataract surgery (by another ophthalmologist at another practice). But after speaking to Dr. David she was put at ease and went through the surgery. A few days after the surgery she was able to see clearly and was so excited that she couldn't wait to have the second one done! I will have to say that Dr. David and staff were very detailed and clear, stressing the importance of the pre and post surgery care instructions, and Dr. David tended to my mom to ensure the surgery went well and there was no infection. Those attention yo details were the marked differences between mom and dad's success or failure in their surgeries. Yes, I would have to say that the eye institute does get busy, but my parents really love Dr. David, Dr. Maria, Dr. Zabaneh and all their staff. The doctors really care about my parents and ensure that their eyesight is at its optimum. Their staff are also warm, kind and have a lot of patience, especially with my 93 year old dad who is really not a very good patient. But they keep at him and he is happy to go and even wait because he knows he is getting the best care to save the little sight he has left in his other eye. Again, We would all highly recommend the Castillejos Eye Institute. In fact my aunt started going to the Castillejos Eye Institute and loves it too! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! Today I had an appointment at 10am. They had moved to the old Red Lobster restaurant on F street. My appt was for a simple dialation. By 11:15 I was sick of waiting. I went to the receptionist and said there was only 4 doctors on today and not even an apology. I literally counted the waiting room, they had 34 patients. I knew then this place wasn't for me even if they accepted my insurance. Needless to say I complained with my insurance company, requested for a different doctor, left and was seen right away by Eye Care Optometry in National City. I will never go back or reccomend anyone to go to that place. Over booking clients and not having adequate staff of doctors and is not only bad business, but ethically wrong. read more

My mom had a trauma to her eye. We were scheduled to the Castillejos Eye Institute from the emergency department doctor. We went in the morning, as we were told it would get busy as soon as they opened. The receptionist was pleasant and our waiting time was minimal. The doctors and their assistants were helpful and went above and beyond to get my mother an appointment with a corneal specialist on the same day. In 2008 I came to meet Dr David Castillejos because I was having problems seeing. I was told that I have cataracts. My vision was very myopic and I wore very thick glasses. The doctor did cataract surgery on both of my eyes. All I can say is that I don't need glasses any more because my vision is 20/20 now and has been since the surgery. I still see Dr Castillejos every 6 months and I'm very happy to have meet him and that he is my opthomologist. read more

No stars rating. For customer service- I tried to talk to the supervisor regarding using an outside prescription to get glasses with my insurance and they don't get back at you. I had to go in person and when I talked to the optical manager Valentino Cervantes he told me that they don't accept any outsider prescriptions to get eyeglasses at their optometry since the past year. I do not recommend wasting anybody's time coming here and they DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OUTSIDE PRESCRIPTIONS. They clearly only want you to get THEIR prescription in order to order their eyeglasses. read more

I have been coming here to see Dr. David & Maria along with their amazing team on and off for the past 3 years. Even during covid, they have taken the time to see me & give me care that is unmatched. Everyone at the front desk is so kind & accommodating, the staff that sees the patients before the doctors (drawing a blank as to their professional titles) are thorough in their exams, and the doctors make it a point to make sure that you understand everything that is going on. I've never once left this practice with questions or concerns. I highly recommend the Castillejos Eye Institute to anyone in need of an ophthalmologist or optometrist. I just had my post-op doctor's visit today with Dr. David Castillejos and he said everything looks great and my surgery went well. I have a pre-existing eye condition but, I have been treated very well here. Dr. David and his sister Maria Castillejos are very skilled and professional. My mother is going through the appointments necessary before having cataract surgery. It has been a total time drain. They so over booked. We are at appointment number 3, they are 45 minutes past her appointment time and they just called her in. This has been the routine every time. This is the pre-surgery brief. We have been told itl will take 2 hours. At this rate we will be here all day. No complaints about the doctor. She has only seen him once for about 5 minutes. It then took me 3 weeks to be seen to be turned away because my insurance was not "active " of course it was active but they are so inept that even to verify insurances they mess it up. It was a disaster from the start but am glad not to ever return here, better places to go. I know they don't need my business because the place was packed.
