We shared one of the massive steaks, creamed spinach, French fries, Mac and cheese and asparagus. All was excellent. Didn't need dessert but got a pecan pie anyway. Pie was good, whipped cream was over the top. Only knock on the restaurant as a whole is it seemed a little more run down than I'd expect of a place of this caliber, particularly the bathroom. I'm also a beer drinker, not a cocktail drinker, and thought their selections were a bit lacking.

I really wanted to love this place, especially given the price point and reputation, but…read moreunfortunately our experience fell far short of what you would expect from a steakhouse of this caliber. From the moment we sat down, the service felt inattentive and inconsistent. Bread was dropped off without any explanation or introduction, and throughout the meal we repeatedly had to flag staff down--for menu guidance, drink refills, and even basic items like a steak knife after our food had already been served. What stood out most was the noticeable difference in how we were treated compared to other tables. We had come from a basketball game and were dressed more casually, and it genuinely felt like that impacted the level of attention and care we received. Nearby tables appeared to receive far more engagement, recommendations, and overall hospitality. For a restaurant at this price point, I expect knowledgeable staff who can confidently guide guests through the menu, including wine or drink pairings. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we asked for suggestions, the responses were vague and unhelpful, and at times felt dismissive--especially when a younger member of our group was steered toward overly simple options rather than being properly informed. The food, which could have redeemed the experience, was equally disappointing. The chicken dish was completely under-seasoned and lacked any real presentation--honestly resembling something you might expect from a cafeteria rather than a high-end steakhouse. The steak itself was poorly executed, and there were no accompaniments or recommendations offered (no sauces, enhancements, or pairings that you would typically expect at a restaurant of this level). Drinks were not refilled when meals were served, no dessert options were presented, and there was little to no effort to elevate the experience at any point during the evening. Even when asking about the restaurant's specialty (the bacon), the explanation we received was unclear and didn't reflect pride or knowledge in what is supposedly a signature item. At the end of the night, the bill simply did not match the quality of service or food. I had hoped to treat my best friend and her son to a memorable dining experience, but instead it felt awkward, uncomfortable, and ultimately disappointing. There is a lot of potential here, but significant improvements in service, consistency, and overall execution are needed to justify the prices being charged.

Excellent evening a few weeks back on a rainy Saturday night. Beautiful restaurant. Great…read moreservice. Had been to the Fort Lauderdale location a few years ago. First time at their Newington location. We were seated a booth - very nice - extra roomy. It's nice that you aren't on top of other people in this restaurant. Nowadays they just pack people in which takes away from the dining experience. Started by splitting a Caesar salad. Forgot to take a picture - probably because it was so good and we were lost in conversation. My boyfriend got the filet with twin lobster tails special. He enjoyed the filet and I had the lobster tails. The lobster tails were huge! The waitress mentioned they normally put some sort of a spice on them but I asked for it to be left off as lobster is delicious on its own (I just asked for butter on the side). Unfortunately, they put salt on the lobster tails which kind of ruined the flavor, however the lobster was nice and fresh, so I just dunked them in butter to mask the salty taste. Lobster is so flavorful and delicious by itself - it doesn't need anything other than lemon and maybe some butter. Chefs are always trying to do different things with lobster and they don't need to. Perhaps they put too much salt in the water they cooked it with. We also split the Au Gratin Potatoes. I must not have read that it had three cheeses in it. WOW was that a lot of cheese. A bit much. Very tasty but too much cheese. It was also quite small. We got the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and I have to say I normally love these, but this had an espresso flavor to it. Like lobster, chocolate is good as it is - no need to add different flavors to it. I hate tiramisu/espresso flavored desserts typically, so that flavor ruined this for me. I wish they mentioned it had an espresso flavor in it. I will ask in the future when ordering at restaurants. Service impeccable. Just a few things that kept this from a 5 star review. We did bring in our own bottle of wine so they will allow that, you just have to pay the $25 corkage fee. Nice evening. Will be back.

FRANK, SERVER 12/10 ATMOSPHERE: 10…read moreFOOD: 10 EASE OF SERVICE: 12/10 There's a reason this restaurant has been open since 1887. We happened to be nearby for a Doctor's appointment and passed here on the way there. When we arrived to the Doctor's office we called for a reservation and were offered 545pm for two(a rare & spontaneous date night). We left the Doctor's office and arrived to P.L. around 520pm. Friendly valet took our car and we entered. We were checked-in and advised to wait in the lounge area where the bar is. Not 5 minutes later we were seated. We received fresh bread(albeit cold not warm) and butter. We were promptly greeted by server Frank, who is very knowledgeable and assisted us with our selections. We decided on the wedge salad, one rib steak, and the crab cake(1) appetizer option, with mushrooms as a side. As our food arrived other tables started to join us in the side room with beautiful stained glass windows. The salad was very fresh and delicious. The crab cake was amazing, just pure crab, not lots of breading as filler. AMAZING!!!! A MUST-TRY!!!! We ordered the steak medium and it arrived perfectly pink in the center and hot off a hot plate with sizzling butter. CHEFS KISS!!! The mushrooms were whole and flavorful. Frank visited our table after each course to see if everything was fine and if we needed anything. Only experienced, tenured servers do this and even as he gained more tables to service he remained close by and available. I love that!!!! My husband wanted coffee so we ordered the apple strudel at Frank's recommendation and I'm so glad we did. It tasted like an old school recipe, maybe from the 1800's (one can hope&dream). It was accompanied by their famous SCHLAG which was divine!!!! If you're on a diet don't let anyone order it at your table because trust me, it'll entrance you, and you'll fold like a stack of cards. It's that amazing!!! Overall I'd give 6 stars if I could. Great place for celebrations like graduations or birthdays but also are welcomed just for a nice date night to enjoy their food and time with your spouse. FRANK suggested we return to try their burger, of which I've heard great things, will have to make it by 4pm, before lunch ends. Can't wait to come back!

He helped us make the right selection of steak, and appetizer. We were seated with a nice view of the outside promenade. At first glance the dining room didn't seem large but on the trip to the restroom I learned that they can accommodate large groups and have private rooms as well. Restroom was clean and equipped. We ordered the crab cake, 12 oz. filet mignon and lamb chops, and the lemon cake. The crab cake was chocked full of delicious crab meat, not a lot of breading. The steak was flavorful and arrived hot. The double-bone lamb chop entree was enormous, and delicious. It was accompanied by parsnip puree and a mint-pistachio chimichurri, scrumptious!! For my pre-birthday dessert I chose the lemon cake and was delighted to see Gerard had also brought [ME ;) ] us the strawberry Hibiscus cheesecake and I was so happy he did!!! We kicked off the meal with their legendary thick-cut bacon. It has the perfect smoky, savory depth and a beautiful caramelized edge. For sides, the asparagus was perfectly grilled and vibrant, the rich sautéed mushrooms added a deeply savory element to the table, and the french fries were piled high, golden, and wonderfully crispy. Of course, the absolute star of the show was the steak itself. The massive porterhouse arrived sliced, sizzling, and cooked to a flawless medium. The crust was beautifully charred, locking in an incredibly juicy, tender interior that practically melted in your mouth. Pouring a bit of that hot, buttery meat juice right back over the top makes it pure perfection. We finished the night with their classic apple strudel, served alongside a massive, decadent mountain of their famous "schlag" (whipped cream). It was the perfect, sweet conclusion to a flawless dinner. The old-school atmosphere, professional service, and legendary food make this worth every single penny.
