Came here for a work dinner. Started with the Joseph's Salad which was excellent and the shrimp cocktail. We shared one of the massive steaks, creamed spinach, French fries, Mac and cheese and asparagus. All was excellent. Didn't need dessert but got a pecan pie anyway. Pie was good, whipped cream was over the top. I really wanted to love this place, especially given the price point and reputation, but unfortunately our experience fell far short of what you would expect from a steakhouse of this caliber. From the moment we sat down, the service felt inattentive and inconsistent. Bread was dropped off without any explanation or introduction, and throughout the meal we repeatedly had to flag staff down--for menu guidance, drink refills, and even basic items like a steak knife after our food had already been served. What stood out most was the noticeable difference in how we were treated compared to other tables. We had come from a basketball game and were dressed more casually, and it genuinely felt like that impacted the level of attention and care we received. Nearby tables appeared to receive far more engagement, recommendations, and overall hospitality. For a restaurant at this price point, I expect knowledgeable staff who can confidently guide guests through the menu, including wine or drink pairings. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we asked for suggestions, the responses were vague and unhelpful, and at times felt dismissive--especially when a younger member of our group was steered toward overly simple options rather than being properly informed. The food, which could have redeemed the experience, was equally disappointing. The chicken dish was completely under-seasoned and lacked any real presentation--honestly resembling something you might expect from a cafeteria rather than a high-end steakhouse. The steak itself was poorly executed, and there were no accompaniments or recommendations offered (no sauces, enhancements, or pairings that you would typically expect at a restaurant of this level). Drinks were not refilled when meals were served, no dessert options were presented, and there was little to no effort to elevate the experience at any point during the evening. Even when asking about the restaurant's specialty (the bacon), the explanation we received was unclear and didn't reflect pride or knowledge in what is supposedly a signature item. At the end of the night, the bill simply did not match the quality of service or food. I had hoped to treat my best friend and her son to a memorable dining experience, but instead it felt awkward, uncomfortable, and ultimately disappointing. One visit I ran into Cliff from the TV show Cheers. Cliff knows Joseph's is the best. It's the spot! You can't go wrong at Joseph's. Never had any issues. They treat you like family and make Great cocktails. I always do a few Martinis. Great ones! Stop in and treat yourself. Make sure you get a bottle of Joseph's Steak sauce to take home with you. Hadn't been back in a few years. For the price point, service was exceptional but quality of food not what it used to be. Great steakhouse right off the highway in Bridgeport amazing quality steak and awesome Sides. We started out with the thick cut bacon appetizer which was grilled to perfection. The French onion soup was delicious and the bread and cheese were nice and crispy on top. For steaks we had the special of filet with bone in and the regular filet that comes with buttered mushrooms which were very flavorful. My son had the hamburger and from the picture you can tell it was huge and grilled to perfection. His fries were crispy and delicious. Personally, the best thing on the menu is their bacon salad with house dressing. It's always my go-to appetizer. The King Lobster Roll is great too. Recently went here for dinner with the family. I used to be a regular but It's been a couple of years since I've been here. Didn't realize Joseph sold the restaurant to a new owner? Good for him. My review is more of 3.5 stars. I'll start with the positive - Service is still excellent. Our waiter was on point and very friendly. I also like how they added a couple of items for the kids. Chicken fingers and fries were a big hit. The steaks were very good, as usual. Sides were tasty as well. The negative - The portion sizes seem much smaller then they used to be. The special appetizer only came with two shrimp? The lobster tail was a joke. Baby lobster? Arugula salad was more chopped tomatoes than anything. Also, the orange sorbet was freezer burned! Come on guys. Bread basket was weak. Very light, stale, and no more flat breads? I'm all about paying up for quality but the l left here somewhat disappointed. A Monday night visit prior to concert resulted in a wonderful dining experience. Cozy in old school steakhouse ambience we were immediately welcomed by our waiter. Service was pleasant and attentive - never intrusive - throughout our two hour stay. Our selections began with French Onion Soup and a Lobster Bisque. Both fine starters however the steaks were the true winners here. The 16oz Bone In Filet Mignon was prepared to perfection. Rightfully tender and juicy this Monday special was simply perfect. I have been to Joseph's steakhouse many times due to work meetings and coming on my own. Every time I feel like they give you less food and the prices just go up. There is absolutely nothing special about the steaks. Nothing. The only thing special here is the steak sauce which tastes good with just about anything but even that is not worth the price. Since I'm not amazed by the steaks, I ordered the salmon which was good. Not extraordinary good which is what I would expect for the price. TLDR Overpriced and probably won't go again on my own. Service was great. One of the servers was kinda creepy and hard to hear (mask didn't help), made it awkward as he explained things and had to repeat himself. I was trying to figure out who our primary waiter was the entire time I was there. So, points off for the confusion. Got the single sirloin. Steak was cooked very good. Definitely tasty streak. Also, it was a huge piece of meat. Thing is, you don't get anything else beside the hunk of meat. For the cost, they could at least toss in a side salad or a side with the steak. My wife and I and another couple ate dinner here last night and was looking forward to a great steak. This restaurant is a self proclaimed Peter Luger look-alike. It even have a sign on the wall talking about Peter Luger's sons. So the restaurant Location, Parking, Service, and Ambience are all great. But at the end of the day you're coming here for the steak which was very disappointing and mediocre at best. My wife and I ordered porterhouse for two for $121 and while it came out cooked to the right temperature and on the sizzling platter the steak itself was fairly tasteless. boring and nervy. This is not what you would get at a Peter Luger steakhouse or Sparks or Mastro's. It was probably the equivalent of a Morton's or Del Friscos. First visit to this fine dining establishment. Lovely dark wood and antique decorations give it an upscale yet cozy feel. Service was prompt and most attentive by our waiter, Joseph. He gave us a rundown on the menu items and specials, with such passionate detail. The Joseph's Special Salad for 2 was amazing-with the rich tasting and tender bacon, Gorgonzola cheese, and a light and flavorful dressing. I could have eaten this all night! I was so glad Joseph recommended it. The Porterhouse for 2 was cooked exactly as requested and was more than enough for 2. It was juicy and tender and just needed a bit more salt and pepper. My mom and I live in California but have a family friend in Connecticut who is recovering from surgery. Mom wanted to send her a steak dinner, so another friend recommended Joseph's. Mom called them to see if this was a possibility and after way too much confusion from whoever she spoke with, thinking she wanted a steak sent to California, we finally figured out we can order for delivery via yelp/grub hub. The evening before, I placed an order for 5:45pm the next day. But at around 2pm my time (5pm at the restaurant), I received a notice that my food would be delivered at 8:45. Uh oh. I figured this is some sort of time zone issue, so I called the restaurant and explained the situation. The person I spoke with checked with the kitchen to see if they received the order. He came back and asked what I ordered, so I told him. He said it was ready and asked if someone was coming to pick it up. First of all...if it's for 5:45, why is this steak already ready and sitting around at about 5? Second of all, I will not be coming to pick it up, as it was ordered for delivery through yelp. He told me that was not possible, as their restaurant has never had delivery. So after a couple back and forths with that, I gave up and said I would call him back. So I called the yelp customer service line. The woman I spoke with gave the restaurant a call and confirmed back with me that the order was for 8:45. So...what is that random steak that the restaurant guy said was done and ready and waiting??? I explained to her that I chose 5:45, but maybe it's a whole time zone mess, but it was supposed to be 5:45 east coast time. She said no, I selected 8:45. Okay, well that is too late, so can we get it earlier? So, she called the restaurant back and cancelled the order and told me to re-order it. Which...okay..so what time do I need to put to get his steak delivered at the time I want it delivered?! Ultimately, she was of no help with answering that question. She said to try 2:45, but that option wasn't available. Luckily, I was able to just do an order for "ASAP" at this point, since it's already in the 5 o'clock hour there. It eventually gets delivered (about 30 minutes after the time we originally had hoped for, but that's not too bad considering all the hullabaloo that took place, I suppose) and I'm awaiting to hear how the actual food is. But my biggest concern here is how the restaurant doesn't seem to even realize grub hub delivers food for them. And how confusing it was for them when my mom called them to see if someone in California could order and pay for a meal to be delivered in Connecticut. And why did this guy tell me my steak was ready at around 5 but then yelp talks to them and confirms the order is for 845? Whose steak is that??? The issue with the time I believe is more of an issue with Yelp than the restaurant. But just a heads up for anyone trying to order for someone else in a different time zone! Yesterday, a friend and I went to Joseph's Steakhouse for dinner. The decor is classic old time Steakhouse like in NYC or Chicago. The bar was massive, old world and charming. Crafted out of dark Mahogony, with large turned columns and intricate crown moldings and mirrors on the back bar. The did it right! The restaurant was jammed with people, the two dining rooms were fully occupied and we were seated at a small table in the bar lounge area. By small I mean the table was square, about 28 inches a side. With drinks, ice water, plates, silverware, menus and wine list there was no more room for anything. We placed our orders and started with Lobster Bisque, the best I have ever had. It was a large bowl, the Bisque was thick and smooth with plenty of lobster meat. It was redolent of cream, butter, lobster and sherry. As we finished our soup, a larger table. Opened up nearby. I asked our waiter Paul, if we could be seated there instead. He was very gracious and quickly cleared the table and brought fresh linens as he and another waiter quickly completed our requested move. Our meals came out shortly afterward, a gorgeous bone in ribeye for me and surf and turf for my friend. I had asked for rare+ and it was cooked to perfection. A nice char, simply seasoned with salt and pepper and a big pat of melting butter on top. The last bite of that steak tasted as good as the first. Midway through the meal our waiter Paul came by to check on us. I told him my steak was the best steak I'd eaten since dining at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn NY. Paul mentioned the original owner had worked at Peter Luger's for many years and tried to bring the best of that restaurant with him when he opened Joseph's Steakhouse. Our first time in this traditional place. We are at the bar and so got to look at the selection, which is okay but not awesome. The liquor selection is middle of the road but the beer selection is great. I had the crabmeat cocktail and it was great. We split a steak, which by the way the bar tender was not too thrilled about but we didn't really care since his gimlet wasn't made with fresh lime juice!!... it's 2022 and your drink prices show it so I expect fresh lime juice not some processed stuff.. anyways, the sides were okay but not exceptional, the only condiments available for my baked potatoes were butter and sour cream, no chives?!!! ... lol.
